Nocturnus can be absolutely considered one of the most underrated Death metal bands. Original lyrics, skillful guitarist with a high level of dexterity. And no other band uses keyboards as much and with as big variety as they do AND make it sound this good nad listenable. The only reason ,why "The Key" won't be part of my christmass list this year, is the fact that I already have it. Breath-taking album How about "Thresholds". Is it a masterpiece, worthy of "The Key" ?
man i fucking hate living in a time with no metal like this, i know the new metal bands are trying, but i wish i could go back in time and just live that experience when everything was starting and when it was just so badass, to bad now you just dont get that feeling :(
@thrashmetalfiend The Key really is on a whole different level, Nocturnus themselves didn't even approach it on their later albums. They really were musically and technically possessed when they made this. I have it on both CD and vinyl, just to be sure...
can see the difference between this time and our time only by see them playing.if only people had this feeling energy and heart when playing nowdays.extraordinary music really inteligent they created something noone did by that time and noone will ever be able to.
I HAD HEARD OF NOCTURNUS BACK IN THE 90'S!! DON'T LAUGH BUT IN THE LAST MONTH I STARTED LISTENING TO ALL THEIR MUSIC AND I NOW SAY DEATH// NOCTURNUS// MORBID ANGEL// POSSESSED//AND OBITUARY ARE MY FAVS.// I HAVE LISTENED TO THE KEY FOR A WEEK STRAIGHT*
It's a bit weird not seeing Mike Browning singing at first. But this band is great. There are a lot of common points between them and Morbid Angel (altars period). The solos for example.
The guitar in question is a Jackson Warrior, which Mike indeed sold to Trey Azagthoth. Mike Davis took guitar lessons from Ralph Santolla... just a little FYI. - Wulf
I remember buying the Key used back in tampa a few years ago. i actually got the radio station copy from WMNF! Haha. I hand't heard the band, i was like "Hmm.. Satan, pentagrams, looks promising". Then i popped it in and got OWNED The entire drive back home. Owned HARD.
@blitzspeer Why do people say this? Both 'Covenant' and 'Domination' were just watered down versions of 'Altars Of Madness' and 'Blessed Are The Sick'.
Nocturnus's "The Key" is has to be the best music release in the entire history of mankind, and it's only rival is Morbid Angel's "Altars of Madness." Mike Davis has to be one of the best guitarists of all time since he has tons of technical skill but creates tons of excellent thrashy riffs to complement his leadwork as opposed to modern tech-death that just continuously wanks without making any good riffs.
@thrashmetalfiend The Key is heads above Altars; Altars is really no rival for it. The only release by another band that topples The Key in terms of aggressiveness and animosity is Divus de Mortuus by Necrovore, even Morbid Angel takes a back seat to Necrovore.
great vid. cameraman seemed to have some zoom problems.... otherwise this is fucking rad. what a killer song, by a killer band. look at their fucking FINGERS. geez.
@varulv234 Yeah, Necrophagist and Obscura have some pretty good material. Spawn of Possession's "Cabinet" had some decent songs, though their newest is barely memorable, and Severed Savior is no different from SOP's newest stuff.
@thrashmetalfiend thats why the phrase technical death metal annoys me I haven't heard anything more technical than nocturnus and those bands don't make me wanna pit cos they aren't HEAVY nocturnus is truely one of a kind
@@louiscsanko9322 Slipknot would be nothing without their visuals, lamb of god is just pussy groove metal and as far as I am concerned, Mike Davis could get on stage by himself and shred for five minutes and it would still be better than anything Lamb of God or slipknot ever released or did live
I thought you said Miles Davis was one of the best guitarists of all time. If that was true, I'd be forced to think you were on more smack than he ever was.
Fucking awesome, one of the best bands of their day.

true masters of death metal

There is even a picture with Trey holding that guitar in a guitar world magazine.
ANYONE KNOW THE PRICE $$$$ THAT TREY PAYED MIKE FOR THAT BEAUTY???
@thrashmetalfiend The Key really is on a whole different level, Nocturnus themselves didn't even approach it on their later albums. They really were musically and technically possessed when they made this.
I have it on both CD and vinyl, just to be sure...
Heard them first in the early 90s and still love them. The Key is just a death metal classic.
I've had a tape copy for 14 years, still listen to it occasionally. It's killer!
mike davis guitarwork is a legit fucking mindcocking
Totally awesome! Thanks for uploading
This was revolutionary shit in the 90s, I don’t think there was anything else like this at the time, Hell, there’s nothing like this now!!!
can see the difference between this time and our time only by see them playing.if only people had this feeling energy and heart when playing nowdays.extraordinary music really inteligent they created something noone did by that time and noone will ever be able to.
Fucking great!
"masterpiece" doesn't begin to describe, IMO..

Thresholds is a killer! Definitely worthy of "The Key". Dude the guitarist is a legend! Atleast I think so,he is the most UNDERRATED guitarist ever.
AND NOCTURNUS ARE THE MOST UNDERATED BAND IN METAL PERIOD*
Inarrivabili per quel periodo... e forse anche ancora adesso!!!!

TO THE PEOPLE WHO DON'T LIKE NOCTURNUS// I GIVE YOU THE MIDDLE FINGER WITH BOTH HANDS*
It's a bit weird not seeing Mike Browning singing at first. But this band is great.
There are a lot of common points between them and Morbid Angel (altars period). The solos for example.
MIKE DAVIS 9STARS// TREY******** 8 STARS// CHUCK********* 9 AND A HALF STARS// imho*

The guitar in question is a Jackson Warrior, which Mike indeed sold to Trey Azagthoth.

WOW// I LOVED RALPH SANTOLLA IN OBITUARY// (RIP) RALPH WAS AN UTTER MONSTER ON GUITAR*
I remember buying the Key used back in tampa a few years ago. i actually got the radio station copy from WMNF! Haha. I hand't heard the band, i was like "Hmm.. Satan, pentagrams, looks promising". Then i popped it in and got OWNED The entire drive back home. Owned HARD.
i agree
Good band! I use to be in contact with Mike B. way back. Now I hope they'll get back together and perhaps do Maryland Deathfest sometime.
This Band possesses me...
from 0:40 to 1:03, the sound of keyboard is totally wicked!!!
Are Mike and Sean working for NASA? NOCTURNUS rulez! Awesome Death Metal icon!
today's death metal bands have nothing on Nocturnus.
YOU ARE 150% CORRECT\,,,/
@thrashmetalfiend I COULDN'T agree more' Brother!!!
their at the camden underworld on the 18th of october.
Most definitely! It's sad that this guy gets swept under the rug!
TRUE THOSE KEYBOARDS WERE EVIL\,,,/
@blitzspeer Why do people say this? Both 'Covenant' and 'Domination' were just watered down versions of 'Altars Of Madness' and 'Blessed Are The Sick'.
I've heard something about their 2008 re-joining europe tour
this guy's zoom button break? Jesus...
These guys were so fucking tight., nice look back to the days when death metal was king, in my mind anyways.
@thrashmetalfiend indeed;)!!!!
hey, what CD should I buy from these guys???
they are awesome!
IF YOU CAN FIND A COPY OF ( THE KEY) FOR SALE// GOOD LUCK THOUGH// ONE OF THE MOST SOUGHT AFTER CD'S ON THE PLANET// ALSO FIND ( THRESHOLDS)
@@louiscsanko9322 you make it sound like they are out of print, calm down their caplord.
Mike is friends with Mike Browning again, I have a feeling it won't happen..
its so hard to find any shit from these guys!
At 2:43, the guy, who was recording this show, notices that there is a bassist player on stage..!
Nocturnus's "The Key" is has to be the best music release in the entire history of mankind, and it's only rival is Morbid Angel's "Altars of Madness."

FUCK YES// MIKE DAVIS IS SUPER UNDERATED// I LOVE THE KEY// THRESHOLDS WAS AWESOME TOO*
I would like to see Mike Davis in Morbid Angle. Can you imagine those trade off solos
MIKE DAVIS MIGHT VERY WELL STEAL TREY'S THUNDER*
I WOULD LIKE TO SEE MIKE DAVIS STAY IN NOCTURNUS// A CRYSTAL BALL TELLS ME THEY WILL BE ON TOUR IN 2020
@thrashmetalfiend The Key is heads above Altars; Altars is really no rival for it. The only release by another band that topples The Key in terms of aggressiveness and animosity is Divus de Mortuus by Necrovore, even Morbid Angel takes a back seat to Necrovore.
i heard he sold that yellow guitar to Trey from Morbid Angel
I WONDER WHAT TREY PAYED FOR THAT GUITAR???
which band member from nocturnus was in morbid angel? and why did he leave?
who's drumming for 'em now? It sure should be Mike Browning, he is Nocturnus.
@thrashmetalfiend u forgot about death dude
@per835
Im working on it!
Where is Mike Browning right now?

@varulv234 Yeah, Necrophagist and Obscura have some pretty good material. Spawn of Possession's "Cabinet" had some decent songs, though their newest is barely memorable, and Severed Savior is no different from SOP's newest stuff.
Shit I thought Dethclock was a cartoon! 5

MAY I DARE SAY MIKE DAVIS IS ON PAR WITH SCHULDINER( RIP) // AZAGTHOTH// JAMES MURPHY// IMHO HE IS ON PAR WITH THEM AND ANDY LAROQUE ALSO**
Extremely under appreciated...
its a bootleg from 1991 what do you expect sweeping camera angles and THX quality surround sound.
nocturnus was probably the most underrated death metal band of all time....listen to "the key" and tell me it's not a master piece...
THE KEY AND THRESHOLDS ARE BOTH MASTERPIECES//*
were is mike davis right now
@thrashmetalfiend thats why the phrase technical death metal annoys me I haven't heard anything more technical than nocturnus and those bands don't make me wanna pit cos they aren't HEAVY nocturnus is truely one of a kind

Electro Hippies rule, by the way.
LOL.
Great band that didnt get any credit
MOTHERFUCKERS TALK ABOUT LAMB OF GOD AND SLIPNUTS// ( NOCTURNUS WOULD BURY BOTH BANDS***
THEY OWN DEATH METAL AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED*
@@louiscsanko9322 Slipknot would be nothing without their visuals, lamb of god is just pussy groove metal and as far as I am concerned, Mike Davis could get on stage by himself and shred for five minutes and it would still be better than anything Lamb of God or slipknot ever released or did live
