First Time Driving For Lyft

  • Today I am going to try and make some money by joining lyft and going online for the first time. Driving for lyft is not something I usually do. How much do lyft drivers make is something I have been asking myself before I decided to just go out there and do it myself. You yourself can try it in your own market as the results may vary. It is not super hard to make money, all you need to do is just go online and obtain a vehicle (which you can rent one as well.) First time driving for lyft videos aren't as common and I hope mine shows you how much you can make and what it is like from the inside.
    In this video I was trying out lyft in a different market from ym home market of Atlanta, GA and I was in Miami, FL for this video. Miami is an interesting place and it is filled with tolls as well. I would say that if you don't pay attention to those tolls, they will rack up very quickly.
    While this experience does not show exactly how yours might be, mine was like this the first time around. I always give new opportunities that present themselves as not ideal a second chance and I will be doing it again soon. It is something you should look into, because it can make you a decent amount of money on the side, or even become your full time gig.
    I hope this video shows you a little inside of what it is like to drive for lyft as well as the financials of driving with a platform like lyft, because there is not that much information that drivers are willing to share with others on their earnings.

    I love doing Lyft, I drive in NJ and average $30 per hour and avoid the airport unless dropping a rider off. Now with the new bonus zones making more money is easier then ever, Some have been as high as $80 and you only have to accept 1 ride to collect it. Took me a few weeks to find the sweet spots and now I have regular passengers who tip weekly.

      I love driving for Lyft. I have only had 2 people with animals get in my car, 1 I wasn't sure if service animal but the owner made sure to keep the Animal seated and it was a nice ride. I average $30-$50 an hour and it has been a great experience. I love meeting and talking to people. I also love how I can pick n choose my schedule and they have so many different bonuses, I always do well. I do pretty well on tips also. Thank You!

    12:50 5:15 is 4 hours 5 min. 80.81 / 4hr = 20.20 per hour. You have a gas hog and the algorithm is set to have people active longer so 6-12 hour drives are best bet to make more but your forgetting .56 irs mileage back at the end of the year. Basically what your seeing is your efficiency. Now if you had a hybrid or a long range electric doing short local drives even if estimating with hybrid 30 miles before use of gas so for the 4 hr trip - your maintenance. Since it’s self employment and you know your tax deductibles you can get back money on purchase cost if you use it as a company vehicle as expense with advertising which can be the stickers and light. You do a depreciation value that way and you won’t need to bother saving money for all that. You can make car expenses work for you. ... "If you use your car exclusively in your business, you can deduct car expenses," said IRS representative Sara Eguren. If you use your car for both business and personal purposes, you must divide your expenses based on actual mileage." If you purchase the vehicle and choose to do the actual expense instead of mileage, you can write off the actual expenses, including gas, insurance, tires, repairs, etc., as well as depreciation. So, if you have a $50,000 car with 100% business use, $50,000 divided by five years is a $10,000 tax write-off every year.

    If you only going to do Uber X or regular Lyft you must have a hybrid car if you want to make money and if you have a big suv like Suburban do only the premium rides… yes maybe will be only 1 ride in one hour but you will make a minimum of $40 if you park in a airport minimum will be $80 in a hour I know those number because i do it in a Yukon xl in NJ, PA and NY suburb i only do the regular rides if my rating go down or if I want to complete a quest to get extra money in a regular day i make between $450 to $550 in only 6 to 8 rides a day most of the time I only use a little bit more of 1/4 tank of gas

    I've driven uber and lyft for years. STOP here, stop driving. Long term you are only hurting yourself and your vehicle. Uber and Lyft don't care about you, if you get in an accident or die your family is kicked to the curb left with nothing. Just F'ing stop. ✋ take other forms of transportation. Bus, personal car, bike, moped, trains. Most uber/lyft drivers cars are on the verge of a breakdown, they are severely sleep deprived, and treated like shit by the general public. People never acted like shit or treated cabbies the way they treat rideshare drivers. Ridiculous. Just because it's a cheaper option doesn't make it better or safer. This guy that made the video broke it down accurately, and in the end said it's not worth the hassle. He drove 5 hours. Guys like me would regularly drive 10 or more hours and at the best times and areas. Uber/Lyft rob both the customer and drivers by over charging the customers and paying the drivers next to nothing. Please, STOP driving and riding these death traps. Like I said I'm an experienced driver with years under my belt......

    • @Pashak
      @Pashak  2 роки тому +2

      Irs deduction isn’t what it is for majority of people. My maintenance cost for next 100k miles is .02/mile. My depreciation is about .14/mile or so. IRS Standardized deduction includes everything (like going to dealer to do things which I don’t) including gas. It’s not a calculation of what it will be by any means and that’s why a lot of people who drive a lot use standardized deduction, it just makes more sense as it lowers the tax bill more.

      I said the same thing. Sometimes I think a lot of drivers don't file their taxes like a business and maybe file more like employees. Maybe that's why so many drivers in LA cry that they want to be employees vs independent contractors. When you factor in the mileage deduction and then deduct the standard deduction it almost eliminates the earnings basically giving us tax free income. That's why states like California passed laws trying to make drivers employees, because they wanted access to that driver tax money.

    So in your video you deducted 16 cents per mile for depreciation and or maintenance. I don't count that when I drive because the IRS gives us like 58 cents a mile in deduction for taxes. If you combine that with the standard deduction, it's almost like earning free money per year.

      If I don’t include it in my videos, a lot of people start yelling they I don’t understand how it works and it’s easier to keep accounting on the surface than explain everything, but yes tax benefit in my case saves more than what my costs are

    With these gig jobs. The payout is better when completing the weeks promotions. Gig workers don't understand that this kind of job requires the promotions to make the effort worth while. If people do this for a couple of days a week, it will be just pocket change. Here in Vegas, my wife is making 7k a month @ 40 hours a week. Yes I checked myself. Go full time and the perception changes. I wish you all the best of luck and of course each city varies.

    Lyft and Uber drivers don’t realized that they are not an employee of Lyft or Uber, they are only sub-contractors so stop complaining about not getting paid enough. You accepted the price for your ride so why complain??? Lyft and Uber will try to offer$$ you as little as possible to get you to do a job so they can profit more, smart business strategy. It’s no different than me hiring someone to power wash my drive way. If I got a guy that will power wash my driveway for $50 and another guy that will do the same job for $25 of course I would hire the guy that would do it for cheaper to save me money. Lyft and Uber are in business to make profits not in it for charity work, they will continue paying you as little as possible until every drivers nationwide come together and organize a 3/4 day national strike than Lyft and Uber will realized that the drivers are the backbones of the ride share industry. They will start taking less percentage% from the drivers fares or else they won’t have anyone driving for them and bankrupt their billion$$$$ enterprise. So drivers across this country be smart, come together and put your feet down. If someone is offering you peanut to do a job then why do it???????????

    I have one thing wrong with this video and that is the $80.00 you state as your gross income when in fact it is your net income. The gross income is what the pax pays Lyft and drivers have to report that amount when doing taxes. . A driver's net income is what is deposited into their account and or what Lyft shows what they made on the ride. Remember gross income is what the pax pays and net income is what shows that you made on the ride (deposited into your account).
