To the people who watch this remember in USA fuel is dirt cheap so worth doing if u from UK u will make £9 to £10 per HR plus lose wear and tear on car in the long run for us Brits this job really not worth it and also are fuel is tripple the cost of USA fuel
Great video, it’s amazing how you accepted all the trips, specially the 3$ ones. Here In Seattle the city adds a mandatory 2.50$ from customers which usually brings the base pay to 5.50$ or 6.50$

When I was between jobs i did Uber eats delivery and it wasn’t too bad at all. I dont mind driving around the city and listening to podcasts. Made around $120 on week days and at least $200 on weekends. Usually 5-10 hours of work or driving, just depends on the day.
That’s crap money, when you take out , fuel, tyres , insurance,car maintenance and the initial car investment….. probably ~40-50 $/day ..for 10 h of work
@@silviubahnovei sometimes it’s not all about the money, driving is an enjoyable experience/job for a lot of people, you may see everything as not being profitable but that’s just you. Regardless, most delivery jobs are meant to be part time gigs

Gas is not the only expense for this type of job. There are other expenses such as taxes for being an independent contractor (which is quite a steep percentage at the end of the year), and upkeep on the vehicle itself such as tires and other repairs. I appreciate Pasha's portrayal of what it looks like on the front end of the business model, but realistically you don't make much more than minimum wage doing this job, or any other rideshare job when all the factors are considered. In fact, in some states, you actually make -less- than minimum wage. Also, this video doesn't take into account long periods of downtime, which are not rare at all, the availability of Quests that are not reliable at all for most of the time, and the tipping factor which also has quite a bit of variance to it as well. This is all stated from the perspective of someone who worked for Uber and Lyft for over six years, and no longer does because the income doesn't align with my financial goals any longer. Regardless of all that, it's still a neat video.
As a guy who did nearly 18k trips between Uber and Lyft for a few years, I concur. It was great when it first started, but not really worth it after it matured and they lowered the prices.
You must not have a good tax guy. You should have been writing off all of those expenses. I made 53k last year from uber while only averaging about 23 hours per week and only had to pay $1300 in taxes. Uber is very profitable if you’re willing to drive at the right times. Im averaging over $40 an hour after all expenses and taxes. You probably weren’t driving at the right times or in the right areas.

You'll cure your social anxiety if you'll do this long enough. Youll be talking to so many people of all types. You'll have no problem talking anyone after a while and you won't even think about it.
When I do Uber Eats here in Ashtabula County Ohio or in Cleveland it's all just $3 $3 $3, and the average trip takes about 30 minutes with 20 minutes waiting in a Drive-Thru line so I just gave up and started taking passengers instead. Glad to see you have better results in your area.
You should add the amount of mileage put on your vehicle from those trips. Disregarding the cars maintenance is the biggest way uber, lyft, doordash, etc are able to get away with severely underpaying gig workers.
Drivers can save a lot of money by doing their own routine vehicle maintenance like checking tire pressure (once a week), changing oil/oil filter (every 5K miles), and swapping air filters (every six months). Just doing these three things can help keep your vehicle running well for a long time, and doing it yourself is a great way to save time as well as hard-earned cash.
I know manufacturers claim non synthetic oil lasts 5k, but I would HEAVILY suggest doing it at 3k, *especially* for city driving (like delivery). I would happily run a synthetic oil to 6k or 6 months though, and if you are doing your own oil changes it really doesn't cost much more (or maybe even less) than having someone else do a blend oil change. ALSO, many manufacturers like subaru have a very important valve in the oil filter since it is above the engine, make sure you are buying well designed filters for your car like wix or an OEM filter.
@@ahmadmohamad6384 oil change every 3-5k miles, tire rotation every 5k miles air filter every 10-20k miles depending on the one you buy. transmission fluid / filter change every 30-50k depending if you use synthetic, power steering fluid every 30-50k brake fluid change every 30k-40k miles. pads and rotors as used millage may vary. you want something to last take care of it. i doordash and have tried uber eats. but i favor doordash in my area. before taxes gas and repairs i make 20-30 an hr after all said and done ill make around 12-15 an hr at best. thats why after 3 years im not in the market for new work
With the price of gas today, and the wasted time waiting at Restaurants and places for the food, you are lucky if you make $20 an hour. I tried with Deal dash and made $63 in 2 days. And used $30 in gas..not worth it..
@@Pashak the $63 l made in 2 days that was not deducting the $30 in gas. So, l actually made $33 in 2 days. Less than minimun wage. Not worth it. Plus there are so many people trying it in the same areas that l sat down in my car for 30 mins waiting for orders. Not what l expected. Won't do it again..nope, not worth it..
I totally get the awkward hand off and agree that drop-off is easier. However, I will usually tip extra based on that interaction. Maybe they're really nice when I meet them, or they apologize for the food being late even tho its not, or they had trouble finding parking and parked illegally and said something funny about it... It's a real opportunity to earn some extra cheddar.
I guess it's good for those people who are lonely and like the interaction. For others like myself I find it annoying. I'll tip if they don't interact with me and just drop it off on time.

Haha thank you. I only started this year and haven’t been posting much, but I’ll be posting a bit more soon. Have some videos in the works. I found that audio was the most important to me, since I tend to listen to similar things in my car and I’d hate for someone to have to listen to poor audio quality on their commute haha. Pretty cool. I realize its somewhat dependent on area/time/availability etc and many other factors. I know this may be a good gig for some people but always be mindful that you are putting more depreciation on your car (unless these companies are giving you a vehicle to use). So while you account for gas...you are also using everything on your car, miles, breaks, tire tread. It might seem insignificant right now, and maybe it won't be a big deal for some of you. But if you plan on doing this full time on your private vehicle just be aware.
It can be beneficial to get something like an E-bike or scooter to do deliveries on, its cheaper to do repairs if they are needed and you can do them yourself in a quick time at home. I watch a channel that uses an E-bike and all the guy did was strap a milk crate to the back and put an insulating bag in the crate to keep the deliveries warm, that and he got a phone holder to keep his phone visible from the handlebars, so accepting orders while riding is easier. EDIT: Oh, and E-bikes can go faster than cars depending on your location, so that's an added benefit.
Not sure if it makes a huge difference but you might also consider the wear and tear on the car. A common approximation for that is around $0.30 per mile.
@@Yuki-ww1en Absolutely, that's a very fair price for the lifetime of a car. There's a reason people often decide it's more expensive to maintain their car than to replace it.
@@Yuki-ww1en $0.30 a mile is the standard wear and tear cost on cars. $45,000 is a completely reasonable estimate for the price of a car plus lifetime maintenance. It might honestly be lower than average.
My minivan doesnt cost $3k to maintain every 10k miles but my panamera cost thousands per year. That $0.30/mile is BS. Buy a Toyota and run that thing for the 1st $50k miles and all you have to worry about is 2x tire changes (lest than $600) and 4-8 oil changes (do it yourselves and save some money). Youre an Uber driver, you can’t afford to whine about paying someone to do minor maintenance. The problems is most people complain about wear and tear because they think they are making 100k a year to pay others to do maintenance for them.
@@Pashak I tried moving but it ended up making things worse not having any support around. Jobs prospects were better but without the support under ya it's kind of mute. Still pushing forward tho but being realistic about buying a house. Where I'm at yhey are insane on pricing and mortgages are tough go get unless your on 2k+ a month.

Awesome vid. I just started doing Uber Eats for supplemental income, here in Los Angeles. Personally, I'm having a blast! It's only been a few days though.
I have one in the works right now and a couple more planned out. Maybe I’ll put one out tomorrow. I’m not super happy with how it came out and I might need to redo the whole thing. I want to make content that I can be proud of a year from now too.
Don’t accept orders under $5-$7! Also, make sure the delivery route for each order doesn’t take you too far out of your preferred zone/area and make sure the (route distance =/= pay) is at least $1.50 per mile!

@@dannychandra2715 You are secretly punished for declining orders, the algorithm will put you lower on the list of what drivers get given deliveries. In a big city or somewhere that doesn't have many UberEats drivers this won't affect you much at all.
It's really interesting that all of the comments are so focused on cost of gas, depreciation, and mileage, while completely ignoring state and federal income taxes and not getting any healthcare.
Minimum wage is $7.25 before taxes. There you don’t even get to write off your transportation expenses. That’s also before any healthcare that you need. Not all jobs offer health benefits either. Just something that might be a better option. Won’t work for everyone. Remember that many work wages close or even below poverty line.
You can get your own medical and life insurance. Don't need a job for that. Vehicle gas, and maintenance cost is a tax write off. I still get a tax refund. W2 job minus federal, state, S.S, Medicare tax. Same thing.

Be sure to factor in an Extra 0.50 Per Mile driven for Wear and Tear on your Car such as Brakes, Oil Change, Coolant, Transmission Fluid needs to be changed more often for stop and go Traffic. Also, talk to your Tax Consultant to see if you can write off your Taxes for miles Driven. I can tell that You are very hard working and a good citizen.
First I’d like to say, I have tools or access to tools to do ALL maintenance myself. Next 50k miles my maintenance cost is $0. With that said It’s nowhere near that high to be honest. I’d say it’s like 2-3 cents per mile on maintenance for next 100k miles and about 12-15 cents per mile on depreciation in normal market. In the way market is now, it’s possible to be less haha. I have an accountant for that so got it covered, we do use mileage because it’s a better deduction. Thank you for your support and I appreciate your input as well!

I don’t feel entitled to any tips, just to make that clear. However, without tips this service wouldn’t be in place unless Uber would pay drivers fair pay. If tips keep going away, the service will die out.
Yeah I suppose. I come from Russia, where tipping is borderline an insult, so I don’t like tips. I think that companies should pay LIVING wages (not the 7.25 minimum) which is how I do my business, however I can’t change industry and it is how it is for now. We shall see.
I'll tip pizza delivery driver because they are paid by the amount of trip they drop. Delivery for uber eat ill tip 1 dollar because it's not a free service
Well, if you break down what I made without tips and look at expenses you’d understand that without tips service wouldn’t exist. Base pay usually is covering your expenses as self employed. Uber driver doesn’t get paid fairly without tips.
I can’t believe people don’t tip. We don’t have Uber Eats in our area, but we use Door Dash frequently. I always tip the suggested amount, and for one restaurant we like that usually makes drivers wait for pick up, I usually tip a dollar or two more. For those who say “it’s not a hard job”, think about the service you’re getting. Meals from your favorite restaurants prepared by humans and delivered miles away to your doorstep by humans.
so why don't I get tipped at my job? It is customer service based. I feel it is the responsibility of the employer and employee who agrees to work there to work out their wage. Now I agree, above and beyond service can be rewarded but a TIP should never be expected. I hate this North American culture about tipping where it is literally how some people make their hourly wage. It is absolutely ridiculous. Don't get me started on those asian restaurants where they include gratuity in the bill.
Your great Scott. One time I was doing doordash and a woman tipped me $20 for a pizza delivery. I needed it so bad she literally had no idea. If It wasnt for her I might not have made it home that night... Tips are lifesavers!
This doesn't have to make you a millionaire. It's a good way to see how you are doing as jobs come and go in life. Progress each job change is what I'm after, everything else is just details

You *HAVE* to factor in the devaluation of your car in added miles, also... it means you are driving closer to required maintenance costs. This is always how Uber really screws you in the end.
uber eats is a terrible job. 1) so much stop and go traffic 2) constant driving increases chances of accidents 3) wear and tear on your car 4) low pay it's not worth it long term. work towards getting a proper job.
Fair point, I think it's important for anyone who is considering this to be a future job. I don't agree with @chris Hayes when they said that anyone doing this should "work towards getting a proper job." Food delivery is going to stay, don't shame people for doing it. I hope I'm making the wrong assumption but that seems like the type of thing you would say while talking down to fast food or retail employees.

So in my area driving for DD, the rule of thumb is to only take deliveries that give you 2 dollars per 1 mile of delivery distance. Is it different in your area? Are those kind of trips just not available enough?
We are mainly Uber Eats market here. My general is anything above a dollar is worth looking at, shoot for 1.50 or more. These trips exist here, but it does depend a lot on the tips and the area. An order from a high end restaurant most likely to have a better tip than from a MCD.
My own personal rule is not accepting orders under $10 and not accepting orders over 7 miles (I also take pay into account, sometimes it’s worth it to take orders over my own personal distance preference) but I sometimes make exceptions
And... you don't have to have a new car which depreciates a lot. In some areas, Uber allows you to have a car ten years old or more: Hardly any depreciation. Some people like to lease their cars. $200 a month, maybe 15¢ a mile, once you go over the allotted miles (or turn it in beforehand). No depreciation there. Also, remember, in 2021, the IRS allows you to deduct 56¢ a mile off your taxes. While that's down from 58¢ a couple years ago, it's still significant. That covers much more than the cost to operate most vehicles. Then again, even $15 an hour is more than most people in America make. But, it's not a gig for everyone.

Interesting, some people might be turned off by the $3 orders but $68 for 3 hours is not bad at all. That's more than the $15 per hour that I get from my job. I might consider doing this part time.
Yet pay for the costs of running a car for so long every day ? Id say the insurance for them is very high & tires, services etc. Put it over a year or 2

It’s super easy. I tinker with stuff and I built my first engine at 17 (sr20det). I won’t recommend people to do it themselves because that would open me to liability and I’m good on that.
Phoenjx doordash driver, made $100 in 3 hours the day before Christmas eves dinner rush. 200 for the day, just 7 hours. Maybe 30 in gas so lets say $170/7hours, takeaway 24 n hour but I hit nearly 35 n hour from 4-7. But I also speed
I think it's a great video, very well done. The only thing I would argue is cost. Your cost is significantly higher than the cost of gas due to tires, maintenance, and vehicle depreciation. Of course, that number varies dependent on the type of car you drive, but I fear that you are underestimating real cost by at least 50 percent.

Post tax deduction it’s like 0.28/mile. The reason I only subtract my gas is because with my tax bracket the difference on my tax bill with the deduction was worth enough to leave gas as my only expense in that video because it was getting 12mpg. (and yes that’s with depreciation). Right now it’s also different because due to different vehicle. Everyone needs to do their own math. A vehicle that costs like this 80k truck that gets 12mpg would be totally different from a 30k car that gets 30mpg. Got to do the math for yourself. I track my own miles. Uber doesn’t track miles right at all. I have a full video on my channel about miles tracking where I go deeper into it. In short, I use an actual gps device with vehicle data (canbus/obdii). I’ll try to give you a better math for my expenses here. Maintenance for me is not expensive, due to me being able to do pretty much anything with my own labor and having a commercial account with a parts store. Your mileage will vary. If it costs me 4 hours of time and $100 to do my brake pads and $150 for my rotors (replacement is every other pad service so about 100k miles) we come down to brakes costing me $350 for a 100k miles. Which is just 0.0035/mile for that period of time. Vehicle depreciation I account for .20 or so cents per mile depending on the market and vehicle . My brother got a 2019 Jetta 3 years ago and was offered by a dealer to have them buy it this week for $500 more than what we were out the door on it (with 40k miles). Oil changes and filters are free for me for the life of vehicle every 7500 miles so it’s free. Tires have a warranty for wear and repair. So if my tires are worn out before 50k miles, I get a prorated amount back for what I got out of them and if they get flat, repairs are free if repairable. If not, it’s going to be replaced at a cost of free.99. Tires run about $800 for a set with install. $800/50,000 miles is $0.016. Regular scheduled maintenance outside of oil-changes for vehicle I use now at dealer would cost about $3700 (trans fluid, belt, etc.) for the duration of 100k miles. Again, I do all of that myself and it’s about $400 of parts and my own labor worth. At $3700 it would be $0.037/mile and my own cost (not paying me labor obviously) is $0.004/mile Insurance cost is about a $100 a month added on to my policy for the coverage on ride-share which you’d average out for your miles. I’d say it’s about $0.05/mile And finally gas. At 25mpg I am getting at the current price of $2.65 it would be $0.106 per mile (not accounting for my 4% cash back on the credit card) $10/mo tracking device pay $360/year accounting software (30/mo) $60/mo phone bill (assuming you have a separate line like me) So in total =$0.0035 brakes + $0.20 depreciation + $0.016 tires + $0.004 non wear and tear maintenance + $0.05 insurance + $0.106 gas +$0.0025 tracking device + $0.0075 accounting software + $0.015 phone bill Grand total of true expense pre tax deduction is $0.4045/mile which if you drive, you’d most likely be claiming miles at .56c and the remaining accounting and plan. The difference in the deduction allowed at my tax rate brings it all down to about $0.28ish per mile. Considering that I end up averaging about $1.60 per mile driven, it’s actually not bad at all. If you have a car that is 3 years old and depreciated already, your depreciation would be way different too. In the end you have to count for yourself. This here is probably about as close as I can get explaining it without going too far deep. Let me know if I can help you more here. P.S. Gas was cheaper back than"
Dude! I enjoyed the video. Great job. This gave me a lot of insights. $78 after taxes, gasoline and car expenses, this is only 12 - 15$ per hr. That is not a lot of money.
I can see this being fun for some people especially anyone with a Hybrid, EV, Small Economical car, ebike or normal bike since the profits will be pretty good. I cant imagine doing something like this in an old Subaru or even newer ones, I usually get 400-450km per tank and at the moment it costs about 75-85$ per tank. I could imagine the cost of the petrol adding up very quickly for anyone using an inefficient car
Uber and Uber eats is a tough job, people need to tip like in restaurants. I will not do it because when I last calculated it was paying almost like an hourly job, sometimes that paying more if you consider the car maintenance and depreciation
Exactly. After gas, car maintenance, vehicle depreciation, insurance, cost of data/cell service/phone, etc., the actual average hourly earnings are much lower than people ever actually show. It's better than nothing, if jobs are tight in you area, or for a side-gig, or if someone just enjoys doing it, but it certainly doesn't earn that much, after the incidentals are factored in.

Let’s not pretend like this is a ridiculous notion, that your driving habits change when taking on a side-gig like this, and can likely change your vehicle insurance, and that your data plan may have to change, to accommodate the increased data usage from the apps. Both are considered a business expense, and as such, are deductible on your annual taxes. Perhaps you were just unaware. “🤦♂️”

I honestly just look at the active time instead of online since im usually on youtube or just chilling listening to music. Im averaging about 35hr also really important too not take small orders most orders now in day are over $10
@@terbofishing6402 what's wonderful about running your own business is you can run it any way you want. In business, there are two ways of making money: a fast nickel or a slow dime. You can deliver to 10 people at 5¢ each or 5 people at 10¢ each. In the end, you still come up with 50¢. Some people like moving and grooving (fast nickel) while others are okay with waiting for the "big fish" (slow dime). Either way works. We each do what works for us, best. Fantastic! Hey mate, since you do this for living, I feel that you should know that the gas weight is actually making a difference in how much gas you car spends, also keep your tires up to pressure. So I guess using your car constantly at full gas is not very good for you. I would fill it up in your brake, like to half or whatever it usually consumes. Your car seems not that old, so you are gonna have a km done and L/100km (or miles I guess). Take a picture and calculate the gas if you wish to. Any kind of extra weight will make a difference, specially when you are in traffic stopping and accelerating. Its just if you wish to save a little more money everyday :) enjoyed your video, good luck
If you're ok with it remove the spare tire for extra weight savings. In 30+ years of driving I've needed to use my spare once. Some cars don't even come with a spare any more. They just give you a can of sealant and a small compressor. Heck, even the dealer didn't know there was no spare tire in my new car.
Fair enough. Everybody has their comfort levels. Must be some pretty rough roads/potholes you encounter. If you haven't already you can save significant fuel by altering the way you drive. When I drive to work I can go anywhere from 6.7l/100km to 9.5l/100km by changing the cruising speeds, accelerations and timing my approaches to lights etc. Good luck.
I can get about 30% more fuel efficient (or use about $3/day less in gas) but I found that to cost me about a whole delivery in delivery times, so it’s a game of juggle haha

Most I've made in 3-4 hours after tips was about 44 but I also had a double delivery from the same place that took about an 45 minutes to an hour for both deliveries due to distance
Food delivery apps is where it’s at if you live in the city where it’s more established. Rural America iust isn’t there yet to fulfill this type of work . Lol
it works out to about 20 bucks an hour more often than not, as long as even if you have worked 5 hours making 5 bucks an hour, you just trust and stay out, it typically evens out for me at 20/hr. sometimes, you come home beat to dog shite while having made a grand total of 60 bucks over the course of 8 hours. monday -wednesday is garbage. thursday is a bit better than garbage. friday and saturday are good, sunday is best day.
I only do it on Friaday and Saturday evenings, I'd no doubt make substantially more being a cab driver at these times but then I'd have to deal with drunks and crazies.
I'm doing uber eats full time here in Houston it's super busy and I am making 20 to 25 dollars per hour I get big orders of 10,13,15,17 and up to 19 dollars per order I don't take nothing under 9 dollars.. I'm loving my freedom been doing it for 2 months. Honda civic 2016
You never know if they’ll tip. Usually for me even if doesn’t show a tip, majorly of customers add a tip later. For 20 trips I don’t get a tip on 1-2 or so trips.
I can't believe people order food and don't tip even a dollar to the delivery person.... it's actually sickening. If i didn't have a car to pick up my food i'd rather go hungry than order something and not tip the delivery person.

When I was between jobs i did Uber eats delivery and it wasn’t too bad at all. I dont mind driving around the city and listening to podcasts. Made around $120 on week days and at least $200 on weekends. Usually 5-10 hours of work or driving, just depends on the day.
That’s crap money, when you take out , fuel, tyres , insurance,car maintenance and the initial car investment….. probably ~40-50 $/day ..for 10 h of work

Gas is not the only expense for this type of job. There are other expenses such as taxes for being an independent contractor (which is quite a steep percentage at the end of the year), and upkeep on the vehicle itself such as tires and other repairs. I appreciate Pasha's portrayal of what it looks like on the front end of the business model, but realistically you don't make much more than minimum wage doing this job, or any other rideshare job when all the factors are considered. In fact, in some states, you actually make -less- than minimum wage. Also, this video doesn't take into account long periods of downtime, which are not rare at all, the availability of Quests that are not reliable at all for most of the time, and the tipping factor which also has quite a bit of variance to it as well.
This is all stated from the perspective of someone who worked for Uber and Lyft for over six years, and no longer does because the income doesn't align with my financial goals any longer.
Regardless of all that, it's still a neat video.

Of course you can. Which at the end you’d most likely use mileage. My net benefit is big enough where gas is the only expense
As a guy who did nearly 18k trips between Uber and Lyft for a few years, I concur. It was great when it first started, but not really worth it after it matured and they lowered the prices.

You must not have a good tax guy. You should have been writing off all of those expenses. I made 53k last year from uber while only averaging about 23 hours per week and only had to pay $1300 in taxes. Uber is very profitable if you’re willing to drive at the right times. Im averaging over $40 an hour after all expenses and taxes. You probably weren’t driving at the right times or in the right areas.

When I do Uber Eats here in Ashtabula County Ohio or in Cleveland it's all just $3 $3 $3, and the average trip takes about 30 minutes with 20 minutes waiting in a Drive-Thru line so I just gave up and started taking passengers instead.

You should add the amount of mileage put on your vehicle from those trips. Disregarding the cars maintenance is the biggest way uber, lyft, doordash, etc are able to get away with severely underpaying gig workers.

Yea, written off your taxes; you still have to buy the tires and etcetera yourself.
Drivers can save a lot of money by doing their own routine vehicle maintenance like checking tire pressure (once a week), changing oil/oil filter (every 5K miles), and swapping air filters (every six months). Just doing these three things can help keep your vehicle running well for a long time, and doing it yourself is a great way to save time as well as hard-earned cash.

I know manufacturers claim non synthetic oil lasts 5k, but I would HEAVILY suggest doing it at 3k, *especially* for city driving (like delivery). I would happily run a synthetic oil to 6k or 6 months though, and if you are doing your own oil changes it really doesn't cost much more (or maybe even less) than having someone else do a blend oil change.
ALSO, many manufacturers like subaru have a very important valve in the oil filter since it is above the engine, make sure you are buying well designed filters for your car like wix or an OEM filter.

With the price of gas today, and the wasted time waiting at Restaurants and places for the food, you are lucky if you make $20 an hour. I tried with Deal dash and made $63 in 2 days. And used $30 in gas..not worth it..
Again, it depends on your area and on your personal cost. It’s not for everyone. I manage to get $28ish after expenses per hour as an average

Maybe they're really nice when I meet them, or they apologize for the food being late even tho its not, or they had trouble finding parking and parked illegally and said something funny about it... Pretty cool. I realize its somewhat dependent on area/time/availability etc and many other factors. I know this may be a good gig for some people but always be mindful that you are putting more depreciation on your car (unless these companies are giving you a vehicle to use). So while you account for gas...you are also using everything on your car, miles, breaks, tire tread. It might seem insignificant right now, and maybe it won't be a big deal for some of you. But if you plan on doing this full time on your private vehicle just be aware.
It can be beneficial to get something like an E-bike or scooter to do deliveries on, its cheaper to do repairs if they are needed and you can do them yourself in a quick time at home. I watch a channel that uses an E-bike and all the guy did was strap a milk crate to the back and put an insulating bag in the crate to keep the deliveries warm, that and he got a phone holder to keep his phone visible from the handlebars, so accepting orders while riding is easier.
EDIT: Oh, and E-bikes can go faster than cars depending on your location, so that's an added benefit.
Not sure if it makes a huge difference but you might also consider the wear and tear on the car. A common approximation for that is around $0.30 per mile.

My minivan doesnt cost $3k to maintain every 10k miles but my panamera cost thousands per year. That $0.30/mile is BS. Buy a Toyota and run that thing for the 1st $50k miles and all you have to worry about is 2x tire changes (lest than $600) and 4-8 oil changes (do it yourselves and save some money).
Youre an Uber driver, you can’t afford to whine about paying someone to do minor maintenance. The problems is most people complain about wear and tear because they think they are making 100k a year to pay others to do maintenance for them.

Don’t accept orders under $5-$7! Also, make sure the delivery route for each order doesn’t take you too far out of your preferred zone/area and make sure the (route distance =/= pay) is at least $1.50 per mile!

It's really interesting that all of the comments are so focused on cost of gas, depreciation, and mileage, while completely ignoring state and federal income taxes and not getting any healthcare.
Minimum wage is $7.25 before taxes. There you don’t even get to write off your transportation expenses. That’s also before any healthcare that you need.
Not all jobs offer health benefits either. Just something that might be a better option. Won’t work for everyone.
Remember that many work wages close or even below poverty line.
You can get your own medical and life insurance. Don't need a job for that. Vehicle gas, and maintenance cost is a tax write off. I still get a tax refund. W2 job minus federal, state, S.S, Medicare tax. Same thing.

Very informative Video Brother. Be sure to factor in an Extra 0.50 Per Mile driven for Wear and Tear on your Car such as Brakes, Oil Change, Coolant, Transmission Fluid needs to be changed more often for stop and go Traffic. Also, talk to your Tax Consultant to see if you can write off your Taxes for miles Driven. I can tell that You are very hard working and a good citizen.
First I’d like to say, I have tools or access to tools to do ALL maintenance myself. Next 50k miles my maintenance cost is $0.
With that said
It’s nowhere near that high to be honest. I’d say it’s like 2-3 cents per mile on maintenance for next 100k miles and about 12-15 cents per mile on depreciation in normal market. In the way market is now, it’s possible to be less haha.
I have an accountant for that so got it covered, we do use mileage because it’s a better deduction.

I don’t feel entitled to any tips, just to make that clear. However, without tips this service wouldn’t be in place unless Uber would pay drivers fair pay. If tips keep going away, the service will die out.

Well, if you break down what I made without tips and look at expenses you’d understand that without tips service wouldn’t exist. Base pay usually is covering your expenses as self employed. Uber driver doesn’t get paid fairly without tips.
I can’t believe people don’t tip. We don’t have Uber Eats in our area, but we use Door Dash frequently. I always tip the suggested amount, and for one restaurant we like that usually makes drivers wait for pick up, I usually tip a dollar or two more. For those who say “it’s not a hard job”, think about the service you’re getting. Meals from your favorite restaurants prepared by humans and delivered miles away to your doorstep by humans.
so why don't I get tipped at my job? It is customer service based. I feel it is the responsibility of the employer and employee who agrees to work there to work out their wage. Now I agree, above and beyond service can be rewarded but a TIP should never be expected. I hate this North American culture about tipping where it is literally how some people make their hourly wage. It is absolutely ridiculous. Don't get me started on those asian restaurants where they include gratuity in the bill.

You *HAVE* to factor in the devaluation of your car in added miles, also... it means you are driving closer to required maintenance costs. This is always how Uber really screws you in the end.

So in my area driving for DD, the rule of thumb is to only take deliveries that give you 2 dollars per 1 mile of delivery distance. Is it different in your area? Are those kind of trips just not available enough?
We are mainly Uber Eats market here. My general is anything above a dollar is worth looking at, shoot for 1.50 or more. These trips exist here, but it does depend a lot on the tips and the area. An order from a high end restaurant most likely to have a better tip than from a MCD.
Personally in my area I take minimum of 1$/mi trips, 2$/mi is pretty rare here unless it’s superrrr busy.. average is about ($0.75.-$1.25)/mi

My own personal rule is not accepting orders under $10 and not accepting orders over 7 miles (I also take pay into account, sometimes it’s worth it to take orders over my own personal distance preference) but I sometimes make exceptions

It all depends on your case. I end up with over $1/mile for everything accounted. 100k miles is $100k
And... you don't have to have a new car which depreciates a lot.
In some areas, Uber allows you to have a car ten years old or more: Hardly any depreciation.
Some people like to lease their cars. $200 a month, maybe 15¢ a mile, once you go over the allotted miles (or turn it in beforehand). No depreciation there.
Also, remember, in 2021, the IRS allows you to deduct 56¢ a mile off your taxes. While that's down from 58¢ a couple years ago, it's still significant. That covers much more than the cost to operate most vehicles.
Then again, even $15 an hour is more than most people in America make. But, it's not a gig for everyone.

You can also use a bicycle. No insurance, no gas, no depreciation.

Interesting, some people might be turned off by the $3 orders but $68 for 3 hours is not bad at all. That's more than the $15 per hour that I get from my job. I might consider doing this part time.
Yet pay for the costs of running a car for so long every day ? Id say the insurance for them is very high & tires, services etc. Put it over a year or 2

It’s super easy. I tinker with stuff and I built my first engine at 17 (sr20det). I won’t recommend people to do it themselves because that would open me to liability and I’m good on that.

I think it's a great video, very well done. The only thing I would argue is cost. Your cost is significantly higher than the cost of gas due to tires, maintenance, and vehicle depreciation. Of course, that number varies dependent on the type of car you drive, but I fear that you are underestimating real cost by at least 50 percent.

The reason I only subtract my gas is because with my tax bracket the difference on my tax bill with the deduction was worth enough to leave gas as my only expense in that video because it was getting 12mpg. (and yes that’s with depreciation). Right now it’s also different because due to different vehicle. Everyone needs to do their own math. A vehicle that costs like this 80k truck that gets 12mpg would be totally different from a 30k car that gets 30mpg. Got to do the math for yourself. I track my own miles. Uber doesn’t track miles right at all. I have a full video on my channel about miles tracking where I go deeper into it. In short, I use an actual gps device with vehicle data (canbus/obdii).
I’ll try to give you a better math for my expenses here.
Maintenance for me is not expensive, due to me being able to do pretty much anything with my own labor and having a commercial account with a parts store. Your mileage will vary. If it costs me 4 hours of time and $100 to do my brake pads and $150 for my rotors (replacement is every other pad service so about 100k miles) we come down to brakes costing me $350 for a 100k miles. Which is just 0.0035/mile for that period of time.
Vehicle depreciation I account for .20 or so cents per mile depending on the market and vehicle . My brother got a 2019 Jetta 3 years ago and was offered by a dealer to have them buy it this week for $500 more than what we were out the door on it (with 40k miles).
Oil changes and filters are free for me for the life of vehicle every 7500 miles so it’s free.
Tires have a warranty for wear and repair. So if my tires are worn out before 50k miles, I get a prorated amount back for what I got out of them and if they get flat, repairs are free if repairable. If not, it’s going to be replaced at a cost of free.99. Tires run about $800 for a set with install. $800/50,000 miles is $0.016.
Regular scheduled maintenance outside of oil-changes for vehicle I use now at dealer would cost about $3700 (trans fluid, belt, etc.) for the duration of 100k miles. Again, I do all of that myself and it’s about $400 of parts and my own labor worth. At $3700 it would be $0.037/mile and my own cost (not paying me labor obviously) is $0.004/mile
Insurance cost is about a $100 a month added on to my policy for the coverage on ride-share which you’d average out for your miles. I’d say it’s about $0.05/mile
And finally gas. At 25mpg I am getting at the current price of $2.65 it would be $0.106 per mile (not accounting for my 4% cash back on the credit card)

$360/year accounting software (30/mo)
$60/mo phone bill (assuming you have a separate line like me)
So in total =$0.0035 brakes + $0.20 depreciation + $0.016 tires + $0.004 non wear and tear maintenance + $0.05 insurance + $0.106 gas +$0.0025 tracking device + $0.0075 accounting software + $0.015 phone bill
Grand total of true expense pre tax deduction is $0.4045/mile which if you drive, you’d most likely be claiming miles at .56c and the remaining accounting and plan.
The difference in the deduction allowed at my tax rate brings it all down to about $0.28ish per mile. Considering that I end up averaging about $1.60 per mile driven, it’s actually not bad at all. If you have a car that is 3 years old and depreciated already, your depreciation would be way different too. In the end you have to count for yourself. This here is probably about as close as I can get explaining it without going too far deep.

I can see this being fun for some people especially anyone with a Hybrid, EV, Small Economical car, ebike or normal bike since the profits will be pretty good. I cant imagine doing something like this in an old Subaru or even newer ones, I usually get 400-450km per tank and at the moment it costs about 75-85$ per tank. I could imagine the cost of the petrol adding up very quickly for anyone using an inefficient car

Uber and Uber eats is a tough job, people need to tip like in restaurants. I will not do it because when I last calculated it was paying almost like an hourly job, sometimes that paying more if you consider the car maintenance and depreciation
It doesn't work for everyone. It is not easy, but it is another option for those people who can make it work.
Exactly. After gas, car maintenance, vehicle depreciation, insurance, cost of data/cell service/phone, etc., the actual average hourly earnings are much lower than people ever actually show. It's better than nothing, if jobs are tight in you area, or for a side-gig, or if someone just enjoys doing it, but it certainly doesn't earn that much, after the incidentals are factored in.

I honestly just look at the active time instead of online since im usually on youtube or just chilling listening to music. Im averaging about 35hr also really important too not take small orders most orders now in day are over $10
They do keep track of the acceptance rate, so be careful with not accepting orders
Acceptance rate means nothing. You can't get penalized for it.

In business, there are two ways of making money: a fast nickel or a slow dime. You can deliver to 10 people at 5¢ each or 5 people at 10¢ each. In the end, you still come up with 50¢. Some people like moving and grooving (fast nickel) while others are okay with waiting for the "big fish" (slow dime). Either way works.

Hey mate, since you do this for living, I feel that you should know that the gas weight is actually making a difference in how much gas you car spends, also keep your tires up to pressure. So I guess using your car constantly at full gas is not very good for you. I would fill it up in your brake, like to half or whatever it usually consumes. Your car seems not that old, so you are gonna have a km done and L/100km (or miles I guess). Take a picture and calculate the gas if you wish to. Any kind of extra weight will make a difference, specially when you are in traffic stopping and accelerating. Its just if you wish to save a little more money everyday :) enjoyed your video, good luck

If you're ok with it remove the spare tire for extra weight savings. In 30+ years of driving I've needed to use my spare once. Some cars don't even come with a spare any more. They just give you a can of sealant and a small compressor. Heck, even the dealer didn't know there was no spare tire in my new car.
I use them more often than I’d like. It doesn’t make a big enough change to be honest to not have that piece of mind.

If you haven't already you can save significant fuel by altering the way you drive. When I drive to work I can go anywhere from 6.7l/100km to 9.5l/100km by changing the cruising speeds, accelerations and timing my approaches to lights etc. Good luck.
I can get about 30% more fuel efficient (or use about $3/day less in gas) but I found that to cost me about a whole delivery in delivery times, so it’s a game of juggle haha

The vehicle in video is a 2020 Ford F-150 LIMITED. I am no longer driving that vehicle anymore and now I deliver in a Hyundai Sonata. Have that in my most recent (as of now) video.

Most I've made in 3-4 hours after tips was about 44 but I also had a double delivery from the same place that took about an 45 minutes to an hour for both deliveries due to distance
Different markets behave differently. Try other apps, you might make more :)

Yeah it won’t work everywhere. Here in the Atlanta metro and surrounding areas the population is 7 million, so it’s busy.
it works out to about 20 bucks an hour more often than not, as long as even if you have worked 5 hours making 5 bucks an hour, you just trust and stay out, it typically evens out for me at 20/hr. sometimes, you come home beat to dog shite while having made a grand total of 60 bucks over the course of 8 hours. monday -wednesday is garbage. thursday is a bit better than garbage. friday and saturday are good, sunday is best day.

I only do it on Friaday and Saturday evenings, I'd no doubt make substantially more being a cab driver at these times but then I'd have to deal with drunks and crazies.

You might want to stay away from them no tip orders.
You never know if they’ll tip. Usually for me even if doesn’t show a tip, majorly of customers add a tip later. For 20 trips I don’t get a tip on 1-2 or so trips.

Most people do tip. Some don’t. Average tip is 15 or so percent.
We do appreciate your tips. Without the tips service won’t work because our costs as “owner operators” are just too high to be compensated by Uber alone
also the tips come after an hour of delivery
