The almost Kafka like episode where he gets imprisoned for NO discernable reason after pulling off a huge heist was really great for me. The court scene, everything. It does an amazing job of highlighting how the empires tyranny effects everyday people.
A friend of mine had that as a critique. He felt it silly that he got caught for jaywalking. I told him that that was entirely the point, he escaped a heist and did serious damage only to be apprehended for a triviality due to the very actions he made before that. He couldn't grasp that notion. Andor is one of the best pieces of television I have seen in the last 10 years if not 20. If they can give 90% of the first season I will be happy.
@@KareiTVI will admit that that scene was deliberately directed to be silly. Maybe if the moment where he was arrested for the stupid thing as more scary or somber, then it wouldn’t have been a critique from some people
I feel like Andor has a very similar vibe to a lot of the EU content before Disney took over. It covers some more obscure characters from the movies, and as a result I think it's more character driven than some of the bigger, flashier content.
Andor should really be reintroducing alot of obscure, lesser known characters from the EU lore also, into the new canon. Andor's writers wouldn't ruin them (like Filoni has).
I remember back when Andor Season 1 came out, no one was interested and most said they weren't gonna watch. Now that people have had time to go and let word of mouth build, they're expecting season 2 to be just as good, so more are willing to watch. I'm going to bet that if Skeleton Crew was given a season 2, by the time it rolled around, it would have the same "I'm gonna watch it" ratings.
The irony is that I loved Rogue One so I was super excited for there to be an Andor show (very sad how many people didn't care because he "already died"), but I didn't want to watch it because I thought they'd ruin all the characters by making the show as bad as anything else. I was so so so delighted by the result. It's like I won't a tiny little lottery of getting exactly the star wars content I dreamed of
I thoroughly enjoyed R1. When Andor was announced to mass apathy, I had hope it could be good and catch people by surprise if handled right. Turns out I was right with that! But... I never watched it myself. Ironic.
4:06 This right here is why I consider Thor the best Star Wars UA-camr. Even when he has his own stance, he still tries to look at a topic from all sides.
Andor is the ONLY thing I’m excited for coming up. Unless they announce an Old Republic show run by Tony Gilroy, I’m pretty much over it. So excited for Andor though ✊🏽
@@janarkolemees I genuinely have to disagree. Andor may not be the most insanely intriguing character, but the whole point of the show is to push the stories of the people affected by everything. Look at the prison arc/ Marv/luthen/ Kinos speeches, etc are all examples of top tier writing and making you feel the tense nature of how the empire really took control and actually ruled a galaxy lmfao. Most other shows have things written so childish that it just makes everything unbelievable, it’s just eye candy at this point in my opinion
Andor is actually in a very interesting spot. I've seen a lot of geek culture channels, some of the more hardline ones, say that Star Wars is dead. Then they'll pop in and say, "Hey, that Andor was actually pretty good," and go back to saying Star Wars is dead. So I'm really excited for season 2 and to see the reception for it.
Depends how you define an IP as "dead" If Andor wasn't connected to Star wars & was a new IP would it be less or more successful? Personally I think it would with more successful
"Bank statements guy" sounds like the people who were complaining about the politics in the prequel trilogy. Palpatine's rise to power was a major part of the story, and the politics are how he did that. Andor is showing us how Mon Mothma became the person we saw in ROTJ.
There's nothing wrong with the politics in star wars, unfortunately in the prequels it all felt very under baked at least in my opinion. Andor is what happens when you take the time to actually develop these political conflicts.
When I was a kid, the politics of The Phantom Menace really bored me. "Get to the podrace and lightsaber duel!!!!" Now as an adult, I find everything in the Senate super fascinating. As @NotoriousTim put it, underbaked, but there was still that kernel of intrigue.
10:50 - what would it take to get me back to the franchise? 1) Removal of the current powers that be 2) Abandoning 7-9 3) A consistent string of quality shows. 4) Less shameless, unnecessary cash grabs (IE: Solo) If those things come to pass, I might - MIGHT - come back.
Personally I thought Solo was pretty solid overall and wished we got a second movie. I can understand the fact that we really didn’t NEED a Han Solo backstory but I enjoyed it for what it was
It's funny, when I unsubbed from D+ the day after I watched the Skeleton Crew finale, of course they ask you to explain why. I chose "Other". The explanation I gave them was this- I will resub once Andor season 2 comes out, till then you have absolutely nothing of interest to me.
I plan on rewatching season 1 of Andor before season 2. I have timed it up to watch it weekly, to where after I finish episode 12, the following week Season 2 will premiere 😁😁🎬🎬👍🏾👍🏾🎥🎥
Considering the viewership went up as the season progressed and word of mouth has also created a buzz i would say out of all the Star Wars shows, its the only one i think that will attract a decent amount of views
I originally was never even going to watch the 1st season of Andor as a spinoff show of a character from Rogue One wasn't that interesting. Boy am I glad I gave it a shot. It's not just a good Star Wars show but a great show in general with a mature tone and a level of writing I never thought it would get. I mean the whole prison arc in season 1 could be its own show. Needless to say, Andor season 2 will likely be the last Star Wars show I view until we see the same level of quality writing and care put into their characters.
I canceled D+ after Andor S1 well before the acolyte. I didn’t need to give acolyte a chance. Disney wins in a way because Andor was so good that I will subscribe again during Andor but will cancel after it’s done. But after that it will be a good stopping point for me with Disney Star Wars. For me anyway there is so much damage that has been done that it can’t be salvaged. But since Andor was made/written so well and interwoven with the OT&PT that will have me pay to see.
"Never more than 12...." I was SO PUMPED for episode 10 Then, after Luthan's speech, I had to wipe my eyes... This may not be the Star Wars that people want. But this was my favorite show....
@plumbussmith exactly! Personally, I never anticipated a series like Andor especially by Ep 10. Those episodes were perfectly built up so perfectly via tension, tonality, stakes, the sacrifices etc, it's unreal.
@TheAcidwire but how? Do you feel the fanbase wants to go before the prequel era to explore jedi/sith/force because after return of the jedi it was clear the force was balanced, sith were no more, and Luke was the last jedi. Before the prequels released I guess Luke could start a new jedi order BUT after the prequels established a prophecy and the actual jedi order it's clear Luke is the last jedi. Their teachings died with Yoda. Luke got a shitty jedi training that even prequel era padawans would've considered insufficient
@ I don't think the 'how' really matters so much to the average moviegoer we're talking about here. Regardless, the no-brainer option was to not fuck up Luke's academy and instead capitalize on it. As far as dark side users go, you don't need the Sith themselves to necessarily be the main antagonists. The Knights of Ren could very easily have been just a group of dark side seekers searching for old Sith artifacts to empower themselves. Either way, there's not much you can do anymore in the narrative dead end we've reached here in the sequel trilogy. Retcon it all, toss it in the garbage, then start over- that's the only way forward.
Can't wait for season 2 of Andor! I'm an OT kid, love this series and have re-watched it in reactions and my own re-watches many times over now! It's serious and smart and quality in every aspect!
I have seen season one of Andor and I loved it. The characters were written well to the degree that you start caring about where they end up, their fate.
The fans never really left. They're simply tired of settling for "not that bad" or shows disrespectfuly labeled Star Wars. It's become offensive and egregious. WILL Andor season 2 bring the goods like season 1? I'll keep my defenses up.
Fans kinda have left if viewership is a metric. Mandalorian has been the only star wars show to grow in viewership season after season that we know of. The animated shows haven't even slipped onto viewership charts despite fan praise like the bad batch. Andor season 1 viewership was the lowest of these shows until acolyte and skeleton crew surpassed it. So with fan word of mouth and praise of the few who watched season 1, season 2 premieres will be a litmus test of "if lucasfilm makes quality shows, will fans watch it."
Waiting for Andor season 2 is pretty close to the same feeling I had when a new Star Wars movie was announced in years past (except for the sequels). The magic is slowly disappearing but my excitement for this show is still palpable.
I am definitely looking forward to Andor 2 but only because it was a great show, but nothing like my anticipation for new Star Wars movie was before the sequels
Andor season 2 is the (2nd half of the Andor novel). According to Tony Gilroy himself this is His best work yet! He's not a Star War's fan so for Him to say something this profound is worth noting. And the x-factor in my opinion is the same writers from season 1 are basically back again. From Tony Gilroy, Dan Gilroy, Beau Willimon & newcomer Tim Bissell. And the composer is back from season 1 with a new score heavily inspired via Rogue One. I have no doubt this is going to be absolutely amazing. Reason being they actually have a writer's room for Andor. Something that D+ series obviously never even heard of. Skeleton Crew was quality, no hate there. Only got D+ once. Andor! Nuh said!
What would bring a fan back is a hard question to answer. I think it starts, however, with cleaning house at Lucasfilm and hiring competence. Not fanboys, necessarily - Filoni has shown how traveling down that road can go. But competence - someone with a vision and who's produced previously, i.e. Tony Gilroy, and a plan to execute. I'd also make a point that whoever comes in should come in with a crew to 'formalize' things like rules and maps - no more of JJ's 'hyperspace skipping' B.S., or having Exegol with the Death Star remains that a dagger conveniently manages to align with. No more World Between Worlds. Set a canon, set a timeline, adopt the good parts of the old EU (i.e. Revan and KOTOR amongst others) and go from there. Additionally, show some respect for the scale of the universe and all the alien species - like, apparently, parts of Skeleton Crew did - by having stories about the Duro, Ithorians, Mon Cal, etc. etc. Recast the Skywalkers as necessary, maybe follow a sequel with Wedge Antilles and Ackbar fighting some big Galactic threat, have Luke show up in a key point, etc. But basically, I'm not coming back until they've made steps to reconcile with the fans. Nothing in the pipeline besides Andor S2 has earned my view.
The World Between Worlds is the only thing that can save Star Wars. It allows Disney to retcon the sequels entirely without upsetting the people that did enjoy them.
I am at a point where, realistically, i don't think there is anything that could convince me to become a regular viewer again. Even Andor, which i found phenomenal, left a bad aftertaste because at the end of the day, its still part of a universe that ends up as utter garbage somewhere down the line. Its like the train was derailed long ago and Andor simply built a few meters of tracks but when that's over, there's nothing to save it. The damage is done and I honestly think only a complete reset or at the very least a relaunching of the EU could convince me to return. Some might say this is just nostalgia speaking but as someone who grew up with the Clone Wars and Prequels, not even Bad Batch managed to reignite the passion i once had for the franchise. In fact, its the older Legends novels that are doing that for me now. Reading the Thrawn Trilogy and X Wing series, those stories feel so much more like Star Wars to me than even Andor managed to accomplish, despite being a brilliantly written show.
7:14 Thor, excellent points about Mon Motha. You can hear the pain in her voice and see the pain on her face when she says, “…many Bothans died to bring us this information… “ in Return of the Jedi. You can now maybe imagine that her own family was killed and that is coming to her mind as well that she, herself, lost loved ones.
Damn, hearing Thor lump Ahsoka in with Kenobi is tragic after he tried so hard to love her show. The current state of Star Wars is a steady siphoning of good will 😢 To answer your question about returning to Disney SW, I think I’d need to see a consistent commitment to writing quality as a starting point. Andor is proof that Disney can make media that speaks to contemporary issues while grounding it in the SW universe. They just have to put in the time and effort. I also want to see them move away from the OT era and tackle their own material. Obviously they would need to do that competently (ie not how they handled things in The Acolyte), but I hope they can stop riding the coattails of Legends material and do something fresh with the IP. It’ll be a slow process. As they said, trust is slowly gained and easily lost. But I’m open to (and hoping for) improvement!
What star wars films or shows under disney do you feel have good writing that lucasfilm should try to raise as their gold standard or what they should aim for? I notice us fans often say what we don't like but don't as often say what we want the company to specifically strive for in terms of specific films or shows. Which Kathleen Kennedy films or shows do you feel should be the standard writing wise to aim for? Also how many films or shows would you consider consistent, 2,3,4,5, more? Also what era would you want lucasfilm to explore, would the far past like the dawn of the jedi era be an era you'd like them to explore or do you prefer lucasfilm move forward in the star wars timeline past rise of skywalker?
@@achaudhari101I didn’t get Ahsoka. I couldn’t get into it. Admittedly I also couldn’t get into any Star Wars animated series. I’ve tried many times, just couldn’t do it. I understand if you’re fan of clone wars and all the animated series and Ahsoka really hit for you. As someone who didn’t, I just didn’t get it. I liked the characters in Mandalorian, but it seemed like in Ahsoka without watching all the animated series, most of the stuff flew over my head. Too much homework for a fan like me. Guessing that’s the same for a lot live action Star Wars fans.
Andor is the highest quality thing that's come from Disney SW. But if Disney or its executives thinks the occasional Gem like Andor will bring fans back long-term, then they are wrong. No single project will save their decline unless they change the underlying ethos of the way they treat star wars and its fans. Actions speak louder than their words and occasional successes. I will celebrate every Star Wars success, but I don't care enough to give them my hope. The new Dune Trilogy has stolen that. Watching that in theaters felt like watching star wars for the first time. The care and passion placed into that so far has by far outweighed the passion placed into the Star Wars franchise since George passed SW to Disney, besides Rogue One and Andor. I will buy Andor Season 1 & 2 on Disc and that will be the last that Disney Plus gets my money for a while. Rogue One was great. I enjoyed the Mandalorian up to season 2. Skeleton Crew was fun. As for what would bring me back? Honor its legacy, as in: Disney needs to stop pretending like they made Star Wars just because they own it. Disneyland only highlights the Sequel trilogy (Seriously Disney, I do not care about ever visiting star wars land unless it has aspects of ALL the trilogies equally: original, prequel and only a tiny bit of sequel. Otherwise... WOMP WOMP for them. They don't promote older characters. WOMP. They canceled the best canon characters like Starkiller or killed them off. WOMP. When its clear that they have felt the impact of star wars fans leaving, and decide to let the story reign and not the money alone, then I might. That is why Andor is so good. They took a step back and recognized Tony's and his writer room's creativity mattered more than money, and trusted that it would later pay off.
I cancelled Disney some time ago out of disgust for the company on multiple points, one of which was what they've done to SW. I will, however be returning to Disney for Andor season 2. I confess, I'm also very interested and cautiously optimistic for the new Daredevil. What would keep me back? I'm not sure anything would. I hate Disney with a passion for so many reasons. But, if they were to continue to produce SW (which I'm even MORE passionate about) content with the degree of sophistication of Andor - i.e. depth of characters, story complexity, acting prowess, intelligent dialog, believability of events, etc. - then I would seriously consider it.
Andor season one was incredible, so it has that going for it already. I plan on waiting for the entire season to come out and then sub for one month to binge watch it. I will watch Skeleton Crew at that time, as it looks like a good fun show. It's not its fault that Disney poisoned the well with Ahsoka and Acolyte.
So if you actually look at the prequel’s politics, they’re surprisingly interesting? They’re just presented poorly when people wanted cool space wizard action. I think Andor is perfect to have more political intrigue compared to standard Star Wars Jedi/sith content. Fortunately s1 being amazing goes a long way in proving this to us.
I use to be the biggest Star Wars fan. like in high school people knew I was the Star Wars guy . Now I dont think I can even consider myself a fan. Part of me wanted these shows to fail but also hope they succeed. Like how did they mess up on the obi-wan show there are so many moments that are unearned .
While I agree with this stance, it still leaves doors open for your Ridley Scott Alien prequels. Great director, who created the franchise, but churned out straight up crap when allowed to cook.
Andor s2 is something I've been waiting for. I hope that we will see what happens to not only Mon Motma, but also Luthen, Vel, Bix and Cinta. I hope some of them survive and can get a continuation in a spin-off during the OT timeline.
Some kind of spin off continuing through the OT timeline would be interesting with Mon Mothma and other characters making it out alive from Andor season 2 as part of the cast. It would be awesome to see the rebellion as it emerges from Star Wars and heads to Empire Strikes Back and the battles and underworking of the Empire as it attempts to crack down on the resistance.
I said to myself if they fuck up Kenobi, I won't watch any star wars until Kennedy is gone. I really want to watch Andor, I'm sure I'll love it. But as the Joker once said, I'm a man of my word.
No reason to be a man of your word to your own detriment. This show flew under the radar because KK didn’t care about it. Watching it can also show Disney that you will watch what she doesn’t make.
The question isn't if it'll come back, but if people even WANT TO come back. Over the years, Star Wars has not only been losing fans but has been growing a hatedom. And it's a hatedom not grown by former or current fans who are angry and frustrated at the current state of the fanbase - but people that enjoy watching Disney fail and suffer and get a sense of schadenfreude. There are a growing number of people who see the flaming train wreck and aren't sad or angry but are just thinking: "Man, this is hilarious! Let's go and throw some gasoline and see this last! " cause they find humor and enjoyment in this stupendous failure. I know cause I'm one of these people. So you have people growing more apathetic and a niche but also growing people that actively want the brand to fail- What can you do at this point?
Disney muffed it when it comes to Capturing The Next Generation. I have 4 (grown) children 18-23 yrs of age. They enjoyed the original trilogy. Rogue One, and that sort of stuff. They are indifferent to it all now. They joke about the Acolyte. Disney lost this generation badly.
I've watched season 1 several times through. Heck yeah I'm watching season 2 as it comes out. Honestly, outside of maybe the Mangold Dawn of the Jedi movie, Andor s2 is the only upcoming Star Wars I'm looking forward to.
I really like everything Tony Gilroy has made for Star Wars, so will happily watch anything else he wants to make, in case they let him close to the franchise again.
I'm 100% looking forward to this season and only this. I haven't consumed any star wars content in 5 years, and only clicked on this video to comment this bc that's how much I fuck with this show.
i think Andor is the best thing Disney has done to date i terms of star wars but thats down to Tony Gilroy not kK it alwasy feel strange that Andor feels like its been made by completly diffrent people from the rest of the shows which is why is far better quality..(ye sit probably has its issues too ive no doubt) but its shakespere compared to the rest of the shows ..my fear is its only 2 seson and that means season 2 is going to have to rush to the finish and as people say Arcane season 2 was a rush hatchet job... my fear is that this will be too ....and its taken so long to make i hope thats because theyve thourght about it long and hard about it and not becasue they dont know what they were going to do at the start ...i will watch it ..Andor himself might not be a massive favorite but it had somee intreguring concepts and characters and i hope it isnt all wasted in a rush time skip to the finish....in Tony we trust 🤞🤞🤞
If Andor was instead a “rebel moon” show or what have you, I wouldn’t have given it a shot. I don’t think I would have liked it if it wasn’t set in Star Wars. It enhances the greater Star Wars story, I’m invested in the inner workings of the rebellion and ISB. I would have liked this show even if it was Kenobi/Ashoka quality. The fact that it has S tier acting and writing made it a 10/10 Star Wars show for me. As for those who think it is boring- I get it. The show lost me a bit on first viewing during the planning phase of the heist when Andor and company were roughing it in a field for what felt like two hours. But I later appreciated it based on the secrecy of their op, the dedication of the members, and on what was a low chance of success/survival mission that they were still willing to go on.
Andor was and is by far the best content that Disney+ have shown.A consistently high production quality,a great script delivered by multiple interesting characters played by competent actors. This is what we could have had for the last decade where quality is the headline over Disneys self destructive priority of endless DEI…..they forgot Star Wars is supposed to be a long time ago and set in a galaxy that’s far,far away from our current day nonsense. Kennedy needs to leave this alone,Tony Gilroy did a great job with S1 and Rogue one.
I think the “what will bring you back” question was really interesting. I had to think about it, and here’s what I came up with. I had to think about what I loved about this franchise so much and what it’s missing now and I would say they need to bring back FEELING and EMOTION, primarily through MUSIC. I think as kids there was just an indescribable “Star Wars” FEELING we all had seeing Luke look into the sky while “binary sunset” was playing. As a child I was somehow able to FEEL the love between Anakin and Padme through the song “Across the Stars” and then there was the FEELING of conflict and betrayal in “battle of the heroes” To me, Star Wars entire emotional core is MUSIC, and now that the music has become forgettable (minus the mandalorian theme) I think we’ve lost our emotional connection to the franchise. I don’t love Star Wars anymore because it doesn’t make me FEEL anything, anymore.
eh... Andor steered away from John Williams' style of music and still manages to be great in terms of music I'd say that the funeral march is the most important and significant Star Wars music since Disney bought Lucasfilm, and that includes the three sequel films that the music were made by Williams
I'll be back for Andor 2. While I'm paying my subs for that I might have a look at Skeleton Crew. I'm not going to tune into everything Star Wars though because there's too much of it, some of it is quite poor and not all of it is made with me in mind. And that's fine.
I'd come back for whatever spins off from Bad Batch, something following either Rex, or Omega. Would definitely want to see a continuation of the threads regarding the clones laid in Bad Batch. Did the rest eventually defect from the Empire? Etc, etc.
I want the Star Wars stories of the Jedi to have some Jedi that are heroes that are worthy of looking up to because they have solid, interesting back stories and journeys that make me excited and root for them or care if they succeed or fail. I miss that feeling of watching and wishing I was going on the adventure with them. I wanted to fly an X Wing, the Millennium Falcon, a land speeder, or a speeder bike. I wanted to be in the battles with them, fighting for a cause. That is what I want in my Star Wars!
I will EMPHATICALLY be there for Andor. After that I'm pretty much going to tune out on anything Star Wars going forward, relying on the retrospective reviews/hype of others. Modern Star Warshas tought me to follow the MO of directors/writers more than the IP itself. Tony Gilroy has my interest going forward. Really hoping Star Wars does learn from this going forward and continues to give a more intellectual, artistic take on movie making over rote IP cranking.
It's like some people just hate any kinda story, even when good.. Honestly was talking with a mate about Andor during dinner last night, and we agreed that it was in fact the best Star wars there is (yes including the OG movies, which i absolutely love) the story is just top notch, the acting is great, and it is a show that works for me as an adult in terms of actions/consequences etc. I am so hyped for S2 that i fear i am gonna get disappointed simply because it is so good and i fear it will be like trying to follow up a show like True Detectives S1.. Which as i am sure most will agree never reached the same heights again. Anyway @Thor, you say thank you to us for being here, i wanna say thank you to you and your missus for making good content for us to enjoy :)
Hey Thor!, I really like most of your content. However, I was wondering when you are planning to release more of your own stories? I have enjoyed the ones you have uploaded in the past. Keep it up man
Andor is great because Tony Gilroy is a faithful emulator of George Lucas, and Kathleen Kennedy's grubby fingers were kept away from it. The only possible way to bring back the franchise is to remake the ST following George Lucas' story treatment. It is the only way.
Andor resonated cuz it told a compelling arc around an important theme. In order to give audiences back a sense of hope and wonder, a strong and relatable theme should be easily identifiable by the end of a SW story, even if its told with only half the nuance that andor does.
Nope. Just like Season 1 didn’t despite being the best SW thing D+ has made. People are too burned, and this isn’t filled with the right iconography to get people to give it a chance. Star Wars needs to go on a hiatus for at least 5 years, preferably 10. Give people a break, then make one movie, and make it great
@@achaudhari101 true. But the point of the comment was that people were getting overwhelmed with Star Wars content and needed a break. That's true, even though no movies were released in a long time.
@achaudhari101 I am sorry but outside andor meh is the best Disney have managed and what over hated most of there content fail as tv show let alone a sw show
I will be honest, I will watch season 2, at least while it keeps my interest. But to come back to Star Wars as a whole, would require the sacking of everyone currently associated with the writing, directing and producing of current Di$ney Star Wars. Nothing less will do.
Great Video, Thor. Andor, like all Star Wars, is filled with incredible moments of entertainment. I wish more Star Wars fans could find the enjoyment in the live action content, rather than waist their time hate watching. To your question of what would appeal to most fans, it’s got to be Knights of the Old Republic. Imagine if Disney was able to tell a fun adventure like the original trilogy within the timeline of the Old Republic! Make Darth Malak the bad guy and Revan the hero who must overcome his dark past to save the galaxy. Bastila could break Revan out of Republic prison to enlist him on a mission to kill Malak. Think Michael Bay’s “The Rock” meets A New Hope with all the KOTOR characters and story beats.
I'm hoping that with both Andor 2 and Skeleton Crew available simultaneously, people will subscribe (at least temporarily) to get a two-fer of good recent Star Wars. I hope they benefit each other.
Andor will be the last thing I am willing to give faith to and actually watch it the rest I'm going to wait till I get an its amazing but realistically I'm not expecting anything Disney star wars to reach that level ever again. Sure I might rematch some old stuff but I can just pull out the DVDS
I love Andor. And if you ask about what it would need to bring me back to a D+-Subscription: More Shows by people who are passionate about their craft. They may have a different vision for Star Wars, but I can really only start to think about things when they are presented in a way that does not immediately alienate me from whats happening
I've given up on the likes of Disney. They create shows by committee instead of an artistic vision. I'm probably going to pirate Andor when I watch it just to spite the corpos.
I hate to say it. But my faoth in disney has ran out. Until wholesale changes are made in the creative side i simply dont trust them not to mess this or any other star wars thing they touch up
I’m a part of the Andor-is-the-last-thing-Star-Wars-I-will-watch crowd. I think the only thing that would bring me back is if trusted sources say that Disney pulled out a few well written Star Wars shows in a row. After disappointment after disappointment, I’m just tired of watching these poorly written shows. Once I finished Ahsoka, I was done with Star Wars outside of Andor
The Andor fans will come back to watch Andor Season 2...but those who never got into Andor will not come, and those that do come back to watch Andor S2 will not care to watch anything else from Disney. I just want to finish the story of Andor. After that, I'll be checking out for good.
It didn’t do much better in ratings than The Acolyte - a show that was cancelled for poor ratings. Even though people liked it - it’s still a tiny part of the audience…
The difference is that Andor's ratings increased while The Acolyte's crashed and burned. The ratings for the final episode of Andor S1 were nearly twice those of The Acolyte's final episode.
I wouldn't mind a well written show called "Vader" about hunting down the remaining Jedi ala "The Force Unleashed" storyline but without the crazy powers. The show would also deal with his pain and internal struggles and would be very dark. Everyone seems to love Hayden again and he's certainly available and they love the ending bit in Rogue One as well. It's really a no brainer. Unleash Darth Vader.
I will definitely be catching season two of Andor, without a doubt. I enjoyed the first season immensely and I personally believe its the best that Disney+ has offered so far. Sure the first season of The Mandalorian was great, but the second declined a little bit and the third was well... I didnt really care for it. After having loved Rougue 1 (it's the best Disney put in theaters) I was excited about Andor and I was happy that it didn't disappoint. Currently I do not have Disney+ but i will resubscribe for Andor and then give Skeleton Crew a shot as well.
Andor was very good in a Ken Loach kind of way. I understand why americans who haven't seen 1970s/1980s british tv really enjoyed it, but from here it was the standard revolution story with a star wars veneer
Literally the only new Star Wars im actively waiting for. Hoping they can make this final season amazing and memorable. Hoping it masters a perfect balance between season 1 vibes and rogue one vibes. This could be the greatest Star Wars we’ve had in decades if done right.
I'll tell you what, if the show's second season takes me to Mon Cal, showing Luthen Rael meeting with Calamari and Quarren Senators, we don't necessarily need a cameo of everyone's most famous Mon Calamari. But just to see how that Planet lend their giant captial ships to the Rebel cause as it's workhorse; just to see Luthen acting as the glue that kind of brings all these different factions together, with the aid and backing of Mon Mothma no doubt. If I could see things like that, and EU characters like Garm Bel Iblis appearing in live action. If I could see those things and maybe a massive twist like Dedra turns out to be Andor's long lost sister, taken and brought up as a Imperial; and now the two eventually face off, bound by blood but of totally different ideals, and Andor is faced with the terrible decision of having to kill his own sister, who is absolutely committed to the Empire now; that would further reinforce and really add alot of weight to when Cassian would later say to Jyn Erso - "We've all done things were not proud of, for the Rebellion." If Tony Gilroy could give me these things and just plenty of Alien races in this Season 2 of *Andor* i'd be absolutely loving this show. Ofcourse I want all the morality tale stuff, and very gritty, realisation of these characters and their everyday lives within the Galaxy also.
I literally couldn't wait into kenobi was done.. I felt relief. It hurt to watch that mess. I've told this before but after the first episode of Andor I got off the couch and went to my gf in the shower, pulled back the curtain and said... Hey, this SW show is pretty damn good. Her not being a SW fan just looked at me like So, WTF ? ... point being Andor is legit. Kenobi was an abomination.
Hey Thor, Im really rooting for Andor here. I really hope it becomes an incredible experience for all fans. That being said, I think the reason why Andor has succeeded where others failed it’s because it ties into George’s canon and not the sequel trilogy. At least not to the extent of skeleton crew
It will be very interesting to see the ratings for the first couple of episodes of Andor S2. I doubt it would be able to pull Mando S1 & 2 type numbers but I'm sure it will beat the pants off The Acolyte.
Late to the party but to throw in my tuppence worth, what I find inexcusable about Star Wars under Kennedy's tenure is that it has turned its back on the generation that made it a global phenomenon; the now 40-50 year olds who grew up on the OT and who, to be so bold as to be a voice for my generation, simply want to see Star Wars content that has matured alongside us. I remember reading an Empire interview with Abrams while he was still making TFA and he said something along the lines of Star Wars should be dangerous, like the wild west, and that was the vibe they were going for. Whether he was successful in that is subjective but to proffer an opinion on what would draw me back, aside from Andor season 2, would be adult-skewing content that is accessible enough to be enjoyed by a younger audience but is aimed primarily at, for want of a better term, the OT'ers. Be that delving into KOTOR or another time period but it should have a dangerous vibe and it should be well written in a Leigh Brackett/Lawrence Kasdan kind of way. It should have fleshed out male and female characters with actual character arcs, it should carry a level of violence akin to The Force Unleashed and it should have villains who are properly villainous; snarling, dyed in the wool bad MFs, not the pathetic pantomime villain-esque Inquisitors that we got in Kenobi. And it should bring back the tradition of the protagonist losing a limb. No more infallible Mary Sue bollocks.
It’s amazing that just a few years ago, a poorly written show would do well just because of the name Star Wars (Book of Boba Fett). Nowadays, a well-written show will do poorly just because of the name Star Wars (Skeleton Crew).
It'll bring me back for more Andor. Not Star Wars. I think for me to be willing to give Star Wars a second chance, there would need to be a public acknowledgement of mistakes made and misaligned priorities, and a course correction where quality and coherent storytelling is centered over messaging. This will never happen, so it is what it is.
I’m in the Andor S2 and done camp for the time being. I guess the Mando movie could be alright, but I’m not too enthused about the leaks we have heard and the overall direction S3 of the show took that particular story. I don’t care for the prequels, actively hate the sequels, and CBA with 25,000 years BBY. But, an Andor-style show set in the 3 years between SW and Empire would bring me back. It doesn’t have to feature or focus on the big three heroes either (though they could be a minor test of recasts or CG tech…) but rather how the galaxy wrestles with joining the Alliance and resisting the Empire after the Death Star is revealed and destroyed. Maybe someone like Wedge could be a main character but I assume an ensemble cast like in Andor would be necessary. I wonder if Gilroy and/or his writing team would be up for this kind of challenge.
Hey Thor. Ngl, I was one of the people who consistently voted that I wouldn't be watching Skeleton Crew up until it ended. However, since then after watching your reviews of it, I actually gave it a chance.. And honestly, Skeleton Crew, Imo is some of the best star wars that has ever been released under disney. I have genuinely not felt that way watching star wars, outside of watching Episode 4 - which I feel catches a lot of the same vibes in a way, albeit while still managing to entirely different. I can honestly say it was some of the best star wars I've ever seen, and checks off boxes for seriousness and cool world building as well as some degree of dark tones, while STILL managing to hit a similar feel to the old ewok movies. I have honestly not cared for any star wars characters more than these kids, since watching the prequal trilogy, and I found myself wanting to know what happened next so bad at the end of each episode, that I ended up binging the show in a night. With that in mind, I find it so beyond heartbreaking that the vast majority of longstanding fans like myself will be missing out on this amazing show, because of the Hackleen Kennedy has allowed a bunch of people to take a steamy dump on the franchise unchecked up until this point, while pushing a borderline toxic woke agenda and using that as an excuse to attack the fanbase, rather than admit what they're doing just isn't working. I will say this though, I do love the duality that LucasFilm has achieved with Skeleton Crew and Andor (Albeit likely unintentionally). Andor gives me everything I could want in terms of nitty gritty story telling set in the star wars setting which I bloody love, where as Skeleton Crew gives me some of the best adventure vibes I've seen in star wars since Episode 4. In short put together, these two shows put together, nearly gives me EVERYTHING I could want out of star wars, minus the Jedi Sith stuff, though that could potentially be explored down the line in both those shows.. However with the terrible ratings thanks to Acolyte, do you think there's any chance we might even get to see a season two of Skeleton Crew? Ps. long standing fan, love what you and Naboo are doing here. Much love!
The almost Kafka like episode where he gets imprisoned for NO discernable reason after pulling off a huge heist was really great for me. The court scene, everything. It does an amazing job of highlighting how the empires tyranny effects everyday people.
Fr it had some real “and then they came for me” vibes
A friend of mine had that as a critique. He felt it silly that he got caught for jaywalking. I told him that that was entirely the point, he escaped a heist and did serious damage only to be apprehended for a triviality due to the very actions he made before that. He couldn't grasp that notion. Andor is one of the best pieces of television I have seen in the last 10 years if not 20. If they can give 90% of the first season I will be happy.
@@KareiTV absolutely right. Well said.
@@KareiTVI will admit that that scene was deliberately directed to be silly. Maybe if the moment where he was arrested for the stupid thing as more scary or somber, then it wouldn’t have been a critique from some people
that's the part where my stomach sank from knowing he will be going to prison this time and there is no telling how bad that will be. great writing
I do actually want to hear more about Mon Motha's bank statements. That is riveting drama.
😂😂
I feel like Andor has a very similar vibe to a lot of the EU content before Disney took over. It covers some more obscure characters from the movies, and as a result I think it's more character driven than some of the bigger, flashier content.
Definitely feels like the x-wing books a little bit in terms of perspective
Andor should really be reintroducing alot of obscure, lesser known characters from the EU lore also, into the new canon. Andor's writers wouldn't ruin them (like Filoni has).
I only just watched season 1
And having done so
I will absolutely be watching season 2
I was really missing out
Most people have better things to do with their time. Like watch UA-cam videos
This was my exact reaction when I watched season 1! It’s just amazing
Even when he has his own stance, he still tries to look at a topic from all sides.
suprised he hasnt hearted your comment here
Andor is the ONLY thing I’m excited for coming up. Unless they announce an Old Republic show run by Tony Gilroy, I’m pretty much over it. So excited for Andor though ✊🏽
I can't be excited for Andor. I will probably watch it, but I don't care about any of the characters. It's just so drab and dull.
Why?
Dull? It’s grim, yes. But it’s fucking tense as all shit at times at times.
@janarkolemees what do you feel could be done in season 2 to make the show more exciting for you
Andor is actually in a very interesting spot.
Depends how you define an IP as "dead"
If Andor wasn't connected to Star wars & was a new IP would it be less or more successful?
Personally I think it would with more successful
We want quality. Andor has proven quality.
Definitely watching but missed the poll
Darby Kennedy time to meddle in the show and ruin it 🤣🤭
"Bank statements guy" sounds like the people who were complaining about the politics in the prequel trilogy.
The popularity of GOT shows that people do like politics if done right. GOT did politics right, politics in prequels were extremely boring.
When I was a kid, the politics of The Phantom Menace really bored me. "Get to the podrace and lightsaber duel!!!!" Now as an adult, I find everything in the Senate super fascinating. As @NotoriousTim put it, underbaked, but there was still that kernel of intrigue.
Andor is so good. I'm looking forward to just rewatching the first season before season two, which I'm super excited for.
Darby Kennedy time to meddle in the show and ruin it 🤣🤭
Mon Motha's bank statements... Oh no! I have to use my brain to understand the story, ahhhhh! My only weakness!
10:50 - what would it take to get me back to the franchise?
1) Removal of the current powers that be
2) Abandoning 7-9
3) A consistent string of quality shows.
4) Less shameless, unnecessary cash grabs (IE: Solo)
If those things come to pass, I might - MIGHT - come back.
I think Solo is one of the best of Disney Star Wars, but most of the shows are awful. Mando 1 and 2 and Andor are the only ones worth watching.
Personally I thought Solo was pretty solid overall and wished we got a second movie. I can understand the fact that we really didn’t NEED a Han Solo backstory but I enjoyed it for what it was
Andor is my favorite starwars show. Rogue one is definitely top 5 Starwars movies.
Why?
Obi Wan and Ahsoka got good views but yeah I think andor 2 will pull in the numbers.

This may not be the Star Wars that people want. But this was my favorite show....
What is the star wars a majority of the fanbase might want?
@@Michelle-b7v8tSpeaking personally, things involving the Force/Jedi/Sith.
ONE WAY OUT! ONE WAY OUT! ONE WAY OUT!
Not true. I know many people that don't watch anything anymore. If I talk about a new show they don't even care to hear about it let alone watch it
Because they’re no different than Kennedy in wanting SW dead.
@TheNobleExile what are people watching for entertainment?
@@Michelle-b7v8t The social media hellscape.
I am so excited for Andor season 2. I'm also excited that it's my Disney star wars farewell until Kk is gone.
Darth Kennedy time to meddle in the show and ruin it 🤣🤭

Thor, excellent points about Mon Motha.
You can hear the pain in her voice and see the pain on her face when she says, “…many Bothans died to bring us this information… “ in Return of the Jedi.
You can now maybe imagine that her own family was killed and that is coming to her mind as well that she, herself, lost loved ones.
This is the only show I’ve looked forward to since season 1
Damn, hearing Thor lump Ahsoka in with Kenobi is tragic after he tried so hard to love her show. The current state of Star Wars is a steady siphoning of good will 😢
To answer your question about returning to Disney SW, I think I’d need to see a consistent commitment to writing quality as a starting point.
@OkMakuTree Thor lumping Ahsoka as a bad show is the only dumb thing he has said.
@@achaudhari101Ahsoka was garbage.
Ahsoka really burned me as a big Rebels fan. It just destroyed so many of those characters.
Really looking forward to season two!
Same here
Andor is the only Star Wars property I’m interested enough to resubscribe to Disney.
Seems like that what Star Wars needed is a seasoned filmmaker (Tony Gilroy) that they can't push around and is just left to his own devices.
While I agree with this stance, it still leaves doors open for your Ridley Scott Alien prequels. Great director, who created the franchise, but churned out straight up crap when allowed to cook.
@@stevenwaas9569 nah, when he’s allowed to cook, we get things like Andor
Hell yes. Andor (I feel) is the last bright spot that was Star Wars. Every aspect of it was very well done. Everything within the show had purpose.
so excited for the whatever long supercut of andor season 1-season 2-rogue one-a new hope.

@ it's not to my own detriment. There are so many other equal or better movies and shows I haven't seen yet. I have plenty to watch
I will definitely watch it sooner rather than later

You should see the Andor subreddit - those people are INSANE. They literally think Andor is some kind of battle cry against Trump.
Darth Kennedy time to destroy the last hope because a single successful is her target
Agreed. Andor is awesome.
As a child I was somehow able to FEEL the love between Anakin and Padme through the song “Across the Stars” and then there was the FEELING of conflict and betrayal in “battle of the heroes”
To me, Star Wars entire emotional core is MUSIC, and now that the music has become forgettable (minus the mandalorian theme) I think we’ve lost our emotional connection to the franchise.
I don’t love Star Wars anymore because it doesn’t make me FEEL anything, anymore.
eh... Andor steered away from John Williams' style of music and still manages to be great in terms of music
I'd say that the funeral march is the most important and significant Star Wars music since Disney bought Lucasfilm, and that includes the three sequel films that the music were made by Williams
@ remind me what that is again?
For me Andor had some epic Star Wars moments. I can’t wait for season two.
Darth Kennedy time to meddle in the show and ruin it 🤣🤭
@ I hope not.
Can’t wait for Andor S2. It can’t get here fast enough. It’s the best Star Wars in decades, and one of the best TV shows ever made.
So far im 4 episodes into Skeleton Crew and its fantastic. Cant wait Andor s2
I'll be back for Andor 2. While I'm paying my subs for that I might have a look at Skeleton Crew. I'm not going to tune into everything Star Wars though because there's too much of it, some of it is quite poor and not all of it is made with me in mind. And that's fine.
I liked Andor. It's a quality show. Not everyone's cup of tea. But star wars doesn't have to be everything for everyone
I'd come back for whatever spins off from Bad Batch, something following either Rex, or Omega. Would definitely want to see a continuation of the threads regarding the clones laid in Bad Batch. Did the rest eventually defect from the Empire? Etc, etc.
I'll probably watch it mostly for Cinta and Vel but what I'm looking forward to even more is Visions
Skeleton crew was decent. Andor was good. Ive given up disney for a while but if they continue to make good content I'll watch it
I want the Star Wars stories of the Jedi to have some Jedi that are heroes that are worthy of looking up to because they have solid, interesting back stories and journeys that make me excited and root for them or care if they succeed or fail. I miss that feeling of watching and wishing I was going on the adventure with them.
I wanted to fly an X Wing, the Millennium Falcon, a land speeder, or a speeder bike. I wanted to be in the battles with them, fighting for a cause.
That is what I want in my Star Wars!
I wrote a somewhat unrelated answer in the poll but I will be watching it when it comes out.
Keep it up man
Getting back to stories is one of my top priorities with this coming year.
Give people a break, then make one movie, and make it great
They had a hiatus with movies for going on 6 years now.
@@achaudhari101yeah, but filled with questionable series.
@@Luks2820 Some good, some bad, and some overhated.
@@achaudhari101 true. But the point of the comment was that people were getting overwhelmed with Star Wars content and needed a break. That's true, even though no movies were released in a long time.
@achaudhari101 I am sorry but outside andor meh is the best Disney have managed and what over hated most of there content fail as tv show let alone a sw show
I believe itll have best ratings in awhile
Making Revan a hero is against everything the character was created to be
I'm hoping that with both Andor 2 and Skeleton Crew available simultaneously, people will subscribe (at least temporarily) to get a two-fer of good recent Star Wars.
Darth Kennedy time to meddle in the show and ruin it 🤣🤭
Straight up - mon mothma scenes were some of my favorite. The sequence where she meets the gangster banker is an S tier scene
The entire franchise rests on the shoulders of Andor season 2. It will make or break Star Wars.
It’s already broken but yes if they fail they are literally history
I wouldn't mind a well written show called "Vader" about hunting down the remaining Jedi ala "The Force Unleashed" storyline but without the crazy powers. The show would also deal with his pain and internal struggles and would be very dark. Everyone seems to love Hayden again and he's certainly available and they love the ending bit in Rogue One as well. It's really a no brainer. Unleash Darth Vader.
I'm coming back. 100%😁
6:06 If bank statements aren't Star Wars, then neither is the taxation of trade routes.
Much love!
