Excavating Giant Boulders with a E26 Mini Excavator

- Here I excavate and move a bunch of large boulders from a backyard with the E26, regrade the area and prep it with loam for a new lawn install. Definitely could have benefited from a larger machine on this job, but it wasn't in the budget! However, the E26 really pulled through and only couldn't move a few giant iceberg boulders.

i love seeing small excavators doing big jobs...just really satisfying
I live in the Hill Country, single mom, all broken karst and I have been searching for a video that shows if a mini can pull it off around here. I have been working on erosion and soil for 11 years. Love my bobcat, but it is bad for the soil compaction and not safe on my steep hills with rock shelving. I am inspired by your video and thinking a mini excavator is in my near future. Thank you!
I don't know if you've ever seen it but there is a product out there that will bust up large rocks and make them easier to deal with. I know that you were dealing with a lot of big rocks but I'm talking about the ones that were too big for your excavator. It's called "Dexpan". There are several UA-cam videos about it. I just thought that if you hadn't heard about it the information might come in useful in the future. You do very nice work. 👍👍
Yeah, I have seen that stuff. Haven't used it, but it probably would have made the rocks manageable. However, would have definitely increased the cost of the job.

For sure, they were basically as big as the cab and I could only roll them once over.

My only comment: drill those remaining rocks and a big hand held breaker will take care of them. A 5 or 8 tonne would have been ideal but respect to that little machine! The stump grinder was perfect to finish off and the skid steer/grader finished really nicely. Well done!

Finished job looks real nice. Should grow some nice grass there if he gets enough sun. Bet those excavators get smaller the longer you own them, LOL.
Haha yes, I definitely have grown to know the limits of the machines, but boy it always impresses me what I can do with the smaller mini. Though, on jobs like this, a larger machine would be much more efficient!

I think I'd rather buy the biggest excavator that I could transport without a CDL though I'm impressed how far you pushed that one.
Thats what I ended up doing! Have an E50 alongside this one now.
If blade had sharp forks can slide under lift or jack uo on to sides then bucket push over on to sled box folding or raising sides so u roll on or into box but lifted opposite sides catch/hold rock.
Need 4 way grab from all four sides ob compass same time or open better then fully open crab pot, just up side down. Meaning specialty tool looks like 1 way all I got on lifting front so far.

28: way to help lift up big rocks to drag or partial more likely drag or lift up few ft in air, then controlled move got nothing. I am pretty tired no more running no where for tonight for sure.

The wild card way to try is manual rocking walking by pushing & or lifting side to side big rock walk but need 2nd arm just about...

look into the Sierra Blaster
If u hve a lot of curl special tall /deep bucket strong sides/steel u then can curve under rock perfect bal then roll /hold rock under curved tall bucket & curving nature of special extra joint arms putting hold on back/counter weight of machine big time.
Only way is if blade not flat but add a prt 90 degrees so u drive flat prt of blade fully better then prt way under then more invovled rest in a drag.

thats a small machine for that job but it will get it done

hello, have you ever had very slow controls and no power due to the hydraulics on the bobcat e 26?
How much did this job cost the home owner?
Just then leaves rolling & then dragging fully ton of drag use less or prt way drag better then nothing, but still near to neighbor to nothing.
It might fall from sky, maybe.

It really depends on location. This was in MA, so it'd be more in the range of ~8k with all materials and probably ~6k in NH.
You know what's wild about excavating... someone would pay as much or more to have those rocks dumped on their property as this guy paid to have them buried and hidden away. LOL
need a jack hammer for your track loader to bust those bigger rocks up.
Pretty much all of those rocks were solid and dense. A hammer on a mini size machine wouldn't have done much other than cost a lot of money to run for little result. Would need a larger 20+ ton machine to break those up effectively, especially if they are buried.
Most of them already had flat sides (previously hammered to split them or just busted up when being moved) most likely thrown there by a larger excavator when digging the foundation. For sure you could make quick work with a hammer attachment if you worked the grain.
Better to use a cracking agent like Dexpan on the larger rocks.

Not far off sea level. Generally within 200' of sea level for most jobs. I am in South East NH.

Need a change of pace bc sleepy in video construction wise not really engaged, trying for AD idea but need air hockey in movie or shooting hoops in movie break see hanks greatest actor in this generation, lands planes on water for a challenge.
Should have just dug a deep hole next to the super size bolders and buried them. You are persistent.
Ha yes, that would be a good idea, but there were so many other rocks and boulders buried, there was no where to really make a void space!

Depends on the job. Not so great for rough and final grading, but awesome for sourcing natural materials for walls, walks and decorative areas.
You need a hammer for the escavator.

It can definitely pick that up over the blade comfortably. Over the sides would be questionable. Also depends on how the weight is rigged (i.e. thumb + bucket or strapped to the arm, etc)
@@CarlsonSonLandscapingLLC this would be an ibc totes that weighs roughly 1500. I would need to load it on a trailer
Thatd probably be a maxed out lift of the 26 to clear the tote + rigging at that weight onto a trailer deck.
