When off loading it's quite simple, Reverse the skates get the rear wheels off the bed, Run the bed all the way forward till it either maxes out or the front wheels are just barely on the bed, and then throw a chain as far forward on the vehicle as you can to the rear pocket, run the bed back and that chain will tighten and then start pushing the skates and vehicle all the way back, from there unhook the chain and you can pretty much jolt the bed forward a few times and it will come out.
Especially if you have no room to move forward in a very tight parking situation you can run a snatch block to your edge of the bed and the winch back up to the truck and literally use the winch to pull it down off the bed. It's safe quick and easy. anything you can do to remain in the most control of the vehicle in the truck and you're surroundings is best.
I think thats the best way to do it, plus Miller Mfg. says that sliding weight on the bed without the stabilizer foot on the ground wears out the bed slider pads in the front faster.
Morning Donald this is Joe Corey from Arizona baruto truck from my brother-in-law year ago it's just about done rebuilding everything from the bottom up that the transmission and motor I started watching your videos a year ago but I haven't seen many yet lately are you still doing videos just want to let you know I appreciate all the labor you put in making your videos I learned quite a bit from it really appreciate it
I just started with triple A and this helped out a lot. I tried the moving the bed back and forth and basically forcing the car off the bed. I wasn't comfortable with it and neither was the member. This technic will definitely be used next time.
When I have to shake a vehicle off the truck I always tell the member exactly what's going to happen so that way they are not shocked good luck to you my friend keep your head on a swivel and be safe
This is only if u don’t have the keys right? If u have the keys u can just put it in neutral and roll it with no skates? I start next week and have never towed before
Front wheels are free just slide the bed up under the front tires and left the bed and roll the wrecker bad til u hit the rear tires and pull it up bout 6 inches instead of like 5 feet
Hello my friend. I would like to make a request. Would you please make a video on chaining a vehicle to the wheel lift without using the "L" arms because it has been wrecked or something and has no front axles or "A" frame. I would make one myself because this is a common occurrence for me hauling for CoPart with every vehicle being a total but I have not got a UA-cam channel with thousands of subs and it would help lots of guys and gals out greatly if they knew how to do it.
Very informative. However, you don't really need to hop back in you tow truck and drive forward. If you truck has a wheel lift. You can do a technique called "walking the Truck." You basically use your wheel lift to pick up the rear tires of you tow truck and that use it to push the truck forward. Saves you a lot of time and keeps you from have to walk back and forth a lot.
@@donaldchastain6847 ItsIt's do able without scratch up driveways. Just have to pay attention and take is slow. Most guys get in a hurry and try to rush through it. But I mostly tow for IAA and CoPart. So it comes in handy with wrecked vehicles.
That would be a sucky ass call Valentine you could do was put your bed about in the middle of that vehicle and dragged it sideways out or just walk away from it
I had no idea about towing, between this guy and a great company and good trainers, I'm pretty good at this trade. I still have much too learn. Y'all all be safe out there. God bless ya
Misleading title. Basically showed a technique for a 2wd truck or car. And at 3:15 there is no reason to get in the truck. Just keep the skates under the wheels and use the bed to push on the rear wheels which will move the truck back. Hate to see rookie mistakes like this but people can get hurt and equipment or cars can get damaged when moving the truck while working. ALWAYS try to keep the truck stationary. The driver's door should only have to be opened twice. Once to start the recovery and the second is to leave the job site. Happy towing and recoveries to all!
First off, He said 4 by 4 and not All wheel drive and the Dodge is a 4x4 on demand, so he is not misleading. Secondly, when the rear wheels on the casualty vehicle are locked, your options for dropping it off are limited , and the way he did it while it is hard on the frame of the truck, it is the most common way. Thirdly, I suggest that you make a video showing your creative methods of dealing with a situation like this if you think you can do better.
Theres always a chance the vehicle can free roll. Dont know if park will hold or the rear end. I'd keep my winch hooked and walk the truck out from under it.
I agree! The truck should not be driven out from underneath. There is a much safer and more secure way to do it. I like his techniques in his videos, but disapprove this video.
Why not just walk the bed under the truck to the rear tires use mallet to hit skate under tire then pull on with winch? Then reverse to scoot truck off.
Tim Buckner thats only sometimes true....what if its one of those new hybrid cars, that dont have the shift linkage easily available or has one of those undercarriage shields making it inaccesible. Also the steering wheel could also be locked. Sometimes skates & snatch blocks are your only option.
But the problem with pop in them shifter cables off a lot of times they break the clips and then people are trying to sue you because you're not a mechanic so I try to avoid that stuff
Why not plant the feet, lift the wrecker wheels, and roll the rig forward with the bed? This would give you the space needed without getting in the cab. Thanks for the skate info. (week 1 tow jockey here)
also. last night i had a fwd. no key. i had to load it up backwards on. getting it off was a pain. came off easy using your. technique. it was when the front wheels came off the bed that the pain started. the back wheels just rolled with the bed. while the front stayed in park not rolling. what could i have done? i had to use fork lift to get it off.
When you load them on backward they are a pain to get off couple ways to do it is roll the bad back and then put on the emergency brake and and Scoot the bed backwards the other way the other way to do it the same principles is to block the back tires so when you're putting your bed down the tires don't roll backwards it just pushes against the fronts to skates
Customers don't like seeing their vehicle drag and the tires screeching just saves an argument waiting to happen and everybody can do the job better than anybody else that's part of being a tow truck driver
@@donaldchastain6847 That's because you lack the proper training and "tricks of the trade". You NEVER drag a vehicle onto the bed of a truck. Just like those who don't know what they are doing by abruptly shaking the bed to get a vehicle off.

How do I get it it loaded on and off a transporter???
Awesome information

Hey don can you make a training video of how to skate a vechial with all 4 wheels locked?
if you go back about a month in my videos I did one using a ford freestyle all wheel drive
where did you hook up ? I towed a Ford F-150 and all the t slots look the same where do I go with the hook
Underside of the frame behind the front wheels
You rock
THANK YOU THAT MEANS ALOT TO ME
Do you have a steel or aluminum deck?
I have used both aluminum and steel right now my new truck has an aluminum bed
Wheel turned to the right passenger side up against wall parallel parked awd car ?
No keys either
