Welcome! You have a lot to learn my friend. But you've found the right channel! First thing's first, the engine in your car is a 2jz ge, NOT a 2jz gte. Make sure not to mix up the two because you'll get roasted on the internet.
RacecarAndChill oh thanks man appreciate the good word and I’ll fix that correction on the type of 2JZ,elaborating on that though I do have a single turbo installed from a previous owner and it seems like he had still wanted a daily as he had it running on 5psi
RacecarAndChill yea that what I was thinking, because for the most part everything is stock so I might go ahead and knock it down to 3 or 4 psi because I plan on using it as my daily and would rather keep it reliable imo
I think you missed something... I never said the ge was stronger. The non vvti ge has internals that are made of the same material as the gte engines while having a higher compression design.
Awesome build brother!! So your car was originally an is300 and you added a turbo to it? Or has the engine been swapped out for a 2jz? I was under the impression the is300 is a 2jz engine but without the turbo. So in theory you could just add the turbo setup to the existing engine and then chuck a manual 2jz gearbox into it if auto isn't your thing.
That's awesome man! I'm doing pretty much the same setup on my Datsun 260Z. It's a 2JZ GE non VVTI bottom end with a VVTI GE head out of an IS300. I wanted the VVTI head in order to get rid of the distributor. I'm using new Clevite bearings, mew OEM Toyota 2JZGTE Piston rings, GTE Head gasket, ARP studs and I got the head milled in order to have a better compression ratio (9:5:1) so I can stay away from detonation. I really like how your cars sounds. What flywheel are you using?
The guy with the accent Mariano Caceres that sounds like an awesome build man! Would love to see it! I'm using the 11.5 lb 1jz lightweight flywheel from drift motion.
No, they're non vvti ge pistons and rods. The non vvti ones are made of the same material as the gte ones, but they are a different design. The ones that come in this motor stock are vvti, and weak.

You can get around 300hp on the 2jz-ge if you just slap a turbo in it and there are plenty of kits for it. If you need more power, upgrade pistons and rods and it should hold 700hp easy
Hey what’s up man! Love the build! I just recently bought a 2002 is300. What would you recommend for the build, a swap or keep the GE that came in it? I want to push at least 400 wheel
Man there are so many options. I'm biased, but I would say build the ge. Throw some gte or nonvvti ge internals in it and slap on your turbo kit. Add a fuel system and standalone and you're good to go!
RacecarAndChill thank you man!! I’m definitely going to build my ge. I’m thinking of Turbonetics, cams, pistons, injectors, def stand-alone, I’m getting a bunch of great advice from you slowly slowly getting the parts hahahah
Phill Faucie no issues with the trans. The only problem i had was with one if the adapters from driftmotion to the driveshaft was rubbing on the trans, but that's it. Trans drives great.
Phill Faucie honestly I'm not sure if it's common or not. It was only noticible at freeway speeds, but I'm going to fix it. I just need to grind down the adapter a little bit.

Not really. Its typical for a big turbo 2j. I wouldnt say it's extremely laggy, but I also wouldnt say that it's super peppy. Having vvti and higher compression helps with the spool time.
@@RacecarAndChill what's the average cost? For this swap, for like the most basic/economical swap? I don't know the difference in the engines. For example, 1jz-ge vs 1jz-gte

If you wanna ball out and make 1000 hp manual car, you can spend 15k without even doing anything crazy unique. Most people meet in the middle and spend around 7k to make around 500hp. This is of course just the price for parts. Double or triple it if you're gonna have a shop do it.
How does it keep up ? What’s the most psi you pulled? I been thinking of building the motor before installing a turbo but now that I seen this I might just install the turbo kit! 2jzge vvti ?
Kevin Mulchansingh Thanks man. I actually powder coated my valve covers! Buddy of mine built his own oven and showed me how to do it, this was one of the first things I did!
Custom made by drift motion. I would have someone else make one. Drift motion uses these adapters, and I suspect they are the cause of my vibration at 85 mph
My local driveshaft shop guy told me to bring him the driveshaft setup, he said the adapter needs a recess to ensure centering. Hes gonna fix me up allegedly and balance it all out.
hmmm, people been telling me that a turbo GE will never make the same power as a GET..so those people are full of it? I picked up a GE for $700 VVTI from a GS300 so I can turbo that!? (or do I have to do a rod swap?) I'm 2JZ swapping a 300ZX
The vvti ge has the weak internals. I would swap the pistons and rods and then turbo it. You can find non vvti ge internals from $100-300 if you look hard enough.
I have a higher mileage GS300 any advice if I should go ahead and do a GTE swap or rebuild the GE and do a turbo kit. Not looking to make a whole bunch of power but you never know! Nice ride though nice to see another AZ guy
David Johnson hey! If you want to see a bunch of other AZ guys, join the Facebook group azlexusclub! There's a good number of us and we get together all the time. But to answer your question, it depends on how much work you can do yourself. I've always been a fan of rebuilding the ge, because I would never trust an imported gte. Sometimes they sit for years, so seals go bad in them. You're going to have to do so much work to it too. But I know the jdm gs300 came with a gte from the factory, so that might make it easier. So I can't give you an honest answer. But I do know there's at least one guy with a turbo gs300 in the azlexus group, so he may be able to point you in the right direction!

Ok so with stock internals and almost 300k miles what’s a safe amount of boost to run. Cars just a fun daily doing some highway pulls every now and then.
No, the stock ecu does not run the engine so it throws check engine lights. In my state that would make you fail. I have the car registered at my "vacation home" 😉
+RacecarAndChill I'm looking at putting non vvti 2jzge rods and pistons in my is300 as well , do you think theoretically the car would pass emissions if I put the stock exhaust and header back on and running emanage ultimate piggyback?
@@jicez6649 theoretically, yes. I would not reccomend it though. That's a lot of work to take the system on and off just to pass emissions. Also, the piggy back will fight with the stock ecu. It is very well documented that people have problems with them. The stock ecu relearns what the piggy back does and undoes it. You will consistantly have to reset the stock ecu.
@@jicez6649 not to sound arrogant. But I highly reccomend you use a standalone. If you really insist on having it pass emissions you can emulate the signals the stock ecu needs to see to keep from throwing codes, but that gets complicated. People who use piggy backs usually end up doing one of 3 things: Getting frustrated and parting out the car Blowing up their first engine Getting a proper standalone.

Rene Perez Jr. No worries man, glad to answer any question and help the community out. The rings and bearings are the stock ones out of a non vvti block, but I would suggest you get new ones and NOT reuse old ones. New oem is your best bet unless you are looking to make serious power (800+).
Research until you have a good idea of how the system works. If I were starting from scratch, I would definitely replace the internals with non vvti ge internals, refresh the whole engine, get a standalone ecu for it with a plug and play harness. Then put together a turbo kit.
hey dude I stumbled across your youtube chanel as im currently building this exact set up just on an emu and holset. Did you use the vvti block with non vvti pistons or use the vvti head on non vvti block?

@@RacecarAndChill Actually, I don't have Lexus is300. I've a 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8. Though I'm thinking of selling it.
@@Isa1ahL33 the IS is a great chassis. But not cheap to make power in. Plan on 6k minimum if you want a 500hp manual car. That's with doing all the work yourself. Double it if you're gonna pay a shop
Thank you so much for making this video! Appreciate it, what kind of budget is needed for a setup like this but around 300 whp?
BillerProductions man I don't even want to know what I've spent on this thing. 😂 but I will tell you, 300hp is not enough, and you will be wanting more within a week or two..
@@RacecarAndChill tell us how much you have spent on this! I own a DE 03 G35 sedan and have not modded it because the v6 is strung out from factory so don't want to waste time on it, but have really considered the is300 and modding it until i can afford a lexus isf. And also what are the most reputable companies for these cars performance wise and quality.
What's going on I'm new to the swap world LMAO. I'm so confused with the names for the engines :(
sweet setup! why did you swap the rods I thought the stock rods were robust enough
The stock vvti rods are weak. The non vvti rods are what you want.
How's the transmission holding up? I'm curious to know about that set up
Phill Faucie no issues with the trans. The only problem i had was with one if the adapters from driftmotion to the driveshaft was rubbing on the trans, but that's it. Trans drives great.
RacecarAndChill is the rubbing a big issue or it's just something normal? Sorry for all the questions lol just trying to learn
Phill Faucie honestly I'm not sure if it's common or not. It was only noticible at freeway speeds, but I'm going to fix it. I just need to grind down the adapter a little bit.
love it... my turbo is300 is my pic!!

Yo what exhaust setup you running
3 inch turbo back with just a magnaflow muffler in it. 👌
How much did all that cost for the motor wise

I live in Arizona. No way I'm getting rid of any of my vents. AC is necessary here!
You got a point there! Could mount it on a swivel arm of some sort.
I think I'm gonna hide it in the ashtray on the center console. 😉
Yessss! I didn't know if the is300 had the ashtray area under the head unit area but that's where I'd put it! It's where I mounted all my switches for my jeep

Where do you get your turbo kit?
Hey nice video! Can I do the same transmission set up in my 03 gs 300?
Yup, it should work. I would just not use the drift motion driveshaft.
Did you assemble the shortblock yourself?
I did not. A good friend of mine Cody did.
Has it got a lot of turbo lag?
Not really. Its typical for a big turbo 2j. I wouldnt say it's extremely laggy, but I also wouldnt say that it's super peppy. Having vvti and higher compression helps with the spool time.
What was the exhaust setup at the time?
3 inch turbo back with a magna flow straight through muffler. No cats, no nonsense
I'm looking for a builder in nor cal.. turbo or swap
Someone help this man!

@@RacecarAndChill what's the average cost? For this swap, for like the most basic/economical swap? I don't know the difference in the engines. For example, 1jz-ge vs 1jz-gte
@@rickyaguilar7572 3k if you keep it auto. But then you're making like almost 300hp. Do you really wanna go through all that trouble to get beat by a stock mustang? If you wanna ball out and make 1000 hp manual car, you can spend 15k without even doing anything crazy unique. Most people meet in the middle and spend around 7k to make around 500hp. This is of course just the price for parts. Double or triple it if you're gonna have a shop do it.
Hey bro can I get a list of the motor parts you install for the turbo I’m trying turbo mine just like yours!!!!!!
I have non vvti pistons and rods in a stock block. Everything else is stock.

RacecarAndChill awesome ill get them powdercoated as the GEs are magnesium and alu thanks

Are you using a custom driveshaft or a stock automatic is300 one?
Custom made by drift motion. I would have someone else make one. Drift motion uses these adapters, and I suspect they are the cause of my vibration at 85 mph
My driftmotion one vibrates too :(

hmmm, people been telling me that a turbo GE will never make the same power as a GET..so those people are full of it? I picked up a GE for $700 VVTI from a GS300 so I can turbo that!? (or do I have to do a rod swap?) I'm 2JZ swapping a 300ZX
The vvti ge has the weak internals. I would swap the pistons and rods and then turbo it. You can find non vvti ge internals from $100-300 if you look hard enough.
Did you say you have a trans from a Pontiac soltisce? What did it take to make that work?
RacecarAndChill thanks for taking the time to reply. If you ever go to no fly zone or cars and coffee I’ll see you there.

Ok so with stock internals and almost 300k miles what’s a safe amount of boost to run. Cars just a fun daily doing some highway pulls every now and then.
Every engine is different, but I would guess around 5 psi and no more than 8. Either way, its gonna be a timebomb at that mileage.
Great video! Are you able to pass emissions with this set up?
@@RacecarAndChill thanks for the insight I will definitely keep this in mind
@@jicez6649 not to sound arrogant. But I highly reccomend you use a standalone. If you really insist on having it pass emissions you can emulate the signals the stock ecu needs to see to keep from throwing codes, but that gets complicated. People who use piggy backs usually end up doing one of 3 things:
Getting frustrated and parting out the car
Blowing up their first engine
Getting a proper standalone.
Might sound stupid but I've been gathering stuff for a long time and have everything but a stand alone and different injectors figured by the time the engine brakes in after the rebuild I could get a series 2 aem
or something

What years does ge non vvti work with ge vvti head
All years the non vvti was made.
What exactly did you use for your internals and from what vehicle can I get those from?
Rene Perez Jr. They came from an SC300. You can get them from any NON vvti 2jz ge. The vvti ones are weak, the non vvti are not.
RacecarAndChill Can i use these even tho I’m not going turbo yet?
Rene Perez Jr. Yes you can. Your compression may be a little lower. But it will work
RacecarAndChill one last thing dude, I hate to be a bother, but as far as the bearings and rings, are they still all the same? And did you get them new or off another SC300?
Rene Perez Jr. No worries man, glad to answer any question and help the community out. The rings and bearings are the stock ones out of a non vvti block, but I would suggest you get new ones and NOT reuse old ones. New oem is your best bet unless you are looking to make serious power (800+).
yo im in az too! I rally want one of these too haha
I have recently bought an IS300 2jzge vvti. What are your recommendations to make it turbo?
Research until you have a good idea of how the system works. If I were starting from scratch, I would definitely replace the internals with non vvti ge internals, refresh the whole engine, get a standalone ecu for it with a plug and play harness. Then put together a turbo kit.
RacecarAndChill I have read about gte internals. Whats the difference if price or something else between gte and ge non vvti?

Vvti ge head gasket. Same gasket that the stock is300 uses.
hey dude I stumbled across your youtube chanel as im currently building this exact set up just on an emu and holset. Did you use the vvti block with non vvti pistons or use the vvti head on non vvti block?
Vvti block with non vvti intervals and a vvti head. I would strongly suggest rethinking the emu. This chassis does not play well with piggy backs. I would go with a standalone if you only want to do it once.
@@RacecarAndChill look into the emu range buddy. It is a standalone I've used one on a 1jz for over a year and unless your competitive enough to need something serious your not going to get better for the money. More features than link.
