Great update video! I agree on the ar5 driveshaft options, I settled on a 2002 4x4 sequoia driveshaft that I will have to modify on the telescoping side but I can't wait to get the ar5 in my is300.
@@RacecarAndChill I'm thinking less than 600, the diff side bolts right up and the telescoping side slides to the dm ar5 4 bolt adapter, just need to take the driveshaft to a shop to have the transmission side modified to bolt to the the 4 bolt adapter
When I did the ls400 brakes it was the best upgrade. On Instagram there is a guy called overkillengineering and he makes brackets to put 17z Brembos in the front. I run 17z on my Jetta and I can stop literally on a dime. Couldn’t imagine them on my is.
What scares me is that it keeps the rear brakes stock.. when the front stops faster than the rear, the rear end will want to come around. That can make for a sketchy slow down from 100+ mph
RacecarAndChill lol funny you say that. I had stock rears on my Jetta. 225mm rotor and single piston when I first did the fronts and honestly it just stands up more in the rear. The is has 2 piston I don’t remember the rotor size rears and with the ls fronts it’s magical. the distribution is more equal on the is. The Jetta I thing was 62/38 or something like that.
Good content, as usual man. You need to get a Canbus gauge like the PerfectTuning or BTi. You can get a single gauge pod cluster bezel from Ortiz Custom Pods and have everything right in the stock location. Yeah I sound like a commercial but I love this setup on mine. You can display a lot of info on one screen: tach, map, oil psi, tps, etc. No need for multiple analog gauges anymore.

Yep that’ll be a good spot for it. The big BTi lets you alter traction control and boost settings, something the Perfect Tuning won’t ( I have the PT). You’ve got the Infinity so you may as well make use of it...plus you can set failsafes for every sensor which is added protection for your engine = less anxiety. I bored and tapped the top vvti union bolt for oil temp, Tee’d off the stock oil psi sensor for the AEM sensor, got flex fuel, plus fuel psi, IAT, MAP, and ECT.
Love that setup. I already have a MK4 with a big single but really want to build an is300 just with the setup like yours for my wife and me as a daily driver. More looking for an auto trans maybe just leave it stock first and swap for supra turbo auto trans later if na one breaks at 500hp. Think my wife wont even do hard pulls on it so might hold it for some month
Clean build bro im doing similar route with my 98 gs300 I wanna get a non vvti ge block and either use that block or swap internals but idk what trans route to go I do like the ar5 swap but im not sure how it works in the gs I gotta do more research on that
This is a good question! Theres so many ways to go about making power in these cars and they all have their pros and cons. I think it ultimately comes down to what your goal is and what you want to do with the car. I think if you're on a budget, theres value in building the ge. If this set up blows up tomorrow, I will probably build the exact same setup.
Just curious, have you gotten a current number for 0-60, 1/4 mile, 1/8 mile, and weight sincr you've changed many parts i would assume the weight has changed too? I know these cars are light stock so who knows if wheels and all other components have changed that. Very addicting sound your car makes brother!
I havent had a legit set of tires on it yet, so I have a hard time launching the car. But the car weighs 3250 without me in it. I want to take it to the drag strip really bad!

Completely unrelated to the video, but have you ever relocated the cruise control on one of these cars? I Recently bought an aftermarket wheel and I was wondering if I could run that and still run cruise control via relocating the stalk.

Yes stock ge crankshaft. I do believe the head was refreshed before assembly. And yes on the intercooler. I don't think you can run a 2jz without an intercooler for very long.

RacecarAndChill oh wow cool never knew that, is there any big or better differences between the 01 and above years except the manual option. I would love a manual but between the high miles, high premium price on manuals, the crazy number of Atlanta traffic and cost to maybe rebuild them, I don’t think my job at target would pay enough for that lol.
@@Bellgrande there are a bunch of small differences for the 01's. The biggest two are that they came with a dash that did not have the sticky coating on it. And the other huge difference is that they use a different wiring harness and ecu.

@@RallyRanchMotorsport thanks man. The ecu harness goes through the driver side, so no. But it would be the same hole as the battery cable would go through on a jdm car. They are the same. There is a lot of room in those rubber grommets for more cables.

Hey racecarandchill just want to ask you a question have you heard anybody having problems with the IS300 with three Windows not working I started thinking to fuse but I haven't had the chance to look at it right or like a relay or something my driver side window works but my passenger and my two rear windows don't work and I've been looking on UA-cam or trying to find forms and stuff and I couldn't find anything and I thought about you maybe since you haven't. A knowledge about is 300 so I thought I would ask you maybe you now?
I wanna turbo but I have a few questions? Can I use a intercooler with the inlet and outlet on the same side? It’s hard to run the cold side across the intake manifold and I don’t want to run across the bottom like probably did. I know it’s frowned upon to run that type of intercooler. Also what stand alone will work? I seen AEM V2, gready engine management, and I do have Apexi AFC controller (I don’t even know how to use this came installed on car)
You can run any type of intercooler you can fit. And any modern standalone can run these engines. The tricky part is getting the automatic transmission working with a standalone. For that reason, many people keep the stock ecu and let that run the transmission and the standalone runs the engine.
what tipe of ecu did u use?? do you have a link? i live in italy and its so hard to find some items for that car.. i have an is200 and im swapping with a is300 engine with ecu and wiring..but im looking for another ecu (maybe one day i will turbocharged the is)
The turbo is not cooled with coolant, just oil. I get my oil feed from the is300 union bolt. There is a T right where the stock oil pressure sensor is.
did you solve the vibration problem with the driveshaft after the ar5 conversion? if so how? im about to start a build on mine and im trying to figure out if i want the cd009 or the ar5.

That's an interesting idea! A custom driveshaft will cost $600-900. Not sure how much your sequoia shaft will end up costing.

The head was gone through when the block was assembled. The throttle body just has the electronics gutted

I have an 01 also. Curious what made you go with the AEM Infinity. Also curious if you recommend that over the ProEFI.
The pro EFI is great. You cant go wrong with either ecu to be honest. I went with infinity because that's what the car had when I got it. Lol

how did you end up sorting your crank position? are you sharing signal with stock ecu to the AEM?
I solved it by rewiring the cam and crank. It worked, so then I shared the signal with the stock ecu. Still going strong.

The sc300 came with them stock. Any non vvti 2JZ, there are other cars we didnt get in the states that came with them too.

They're not the same internals, but they are the same strength. Those are the same internals I am using in this car.

I used the AEM infinity. It is a standalone that can run almost any engine.

It doesn't really chatter, I just hate driving it. It is very aggressive, basically an on off switch.

What manifold did you go with? A lot of these fabbed manifolds at like 1.5k plus, I just need me one that is middle of the line, any suggestions?

did you solve the vibration problem with the driveshaft after the ar5 conversion? if so how? im about to start a build on mine and im trying to figure out if i want the cd009 or the ar5.
I have not solved it yet. I've come to the conclusion I need a new, custom driveshaft.
@@RacecarAndChill im budgeting what I will need to buy because I want to do it all at the same time. Im rough estimating $10-15k on the build in total minus the cost of the car. Just want a reliable NA-T 2j

@@SawDawify you should be able to get it done under 10k with nice parts and paying someone to fab up some stuff.
