    You may be the only one on YT who achieved such a hardcore off-roading in this car! Well done my man!

    Love to see a fellow XC90 owner doing more than just mall crawling! Some advice from what ive learned with ours. 1. Sometimes in OFF Road with the suspension pumped up you lose some wheel articulation. Its better then to just leave it in Comfort but it depends on the terrain. 2. The DSTC will get the power to the wheel that has traction but it takes some time and you need to put your foot all the way down and keep the power on. When the wheels spin, dont brake. Let them spin a bit and let the car do its thing.
    Happy Rola VOLVO! 😉

    I'm on the verge of purchasing the 2020 T8 just some questions will do it early next year
    Have you towed with it?
    How long have you had it?
    And any maintenance issues with it during your ownership
    I love this car and nothing in its segment offers the same exclusivity and interior just concerned about the towing with the 2.0 motor its torque compared to competitors I know in hybrid mode its got more than enough oomph but concerned about the in gear acceleration

    Where do you get the AC power in the wildness to charge your T8?
    The other question is that 4WD mode rear wheels are powered by electrical motor only. If the power battery runs out, does 4WD still work? Thank you.

    • @MrC1N3
      @MrC1N3  4 роки тому +2

      That Camp site had power. In Offroad mode the petrol engine makes sure that it can provide enough power to charge the battey / generate enough power for rear motor. There it's always a surplus of petrol power as one is never 100% using the engine for a long duration if that makes sense.

    That AWD system sure allows a lot of single-wheel spin... There are multiple places where it looks like one tire should have enough traction to move you, but it decides to let the low-traction wheel spin instead. That's disappointing.

    • @MrC1N3
      @MrC1N3  5 років тому +6

      I agree, in the offroad setting the TC system should be more aggressive to brake the spinning wheel to send power to the other wheel with grip. I guess in snow (which the vehicle is more designed for) extra wheel spin could be better for cleaning the tire surface for more grip. I did try also left foot brake a few times, but this didn't help much for this vehicle. Locking differentials are key for offroading. The test was to see how the hybrid electrical system would handle the rear axle power and overall traction. It did well for what the vehicle was designed to do. A Landrover lr4/lr5 would handle this trail much easier.

      MrC1N3 Seriously looking at a used one of these. Enough EV range for my wife’s commute, enough interior space for road tips, and apparently at least somewhat capable at off-roading, even if not great. And a 2-year old lease return is half the price of new.
      My only real concern is drivetrain reliability.

      On almost every single instance of what looks like the right front spinning, you can see the rear tires spin and kick up dirt as well. The problem isn't the AWD system, it's the tires with that loose dirt. I can't tell if they were aired down, but I can definitely see the tread is not aggressive off-road tread. I'm not convinced a LR or Jeep Wrangler with full locking differentials would do much better on those tires, and I say this as a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon owner. Locking up can definitely help, but proper tires and inflation pressure is 90% of off-road capability once driver skill (picking lines) is there. Even with full lockup if three wheels are spinning you won't be going far.
      Also, the way these systems work, you have to stay on the gas for a while as it "figures it out". It's not like a mechanical locking differentials where you can just crawl over stuff. I'm sure the OP tried that, but it isn't depicted in the video until later on (where it appears to work). Either way I think it's a fairly good showing for a luxury SUV that weighs 5000+ lbs with poor off-road tires on a trail more difficult than most Jeeps will ever see. Thanks for sharing, OP!

    Isn't the AWD system supposed to detect wheel slip and the deliver power to the other wheels? I wasn't perceiving much of that happening in the semi sandy area where you had to continually back up and reangle the wheel.

    • @MrC1N3
      @MrC1N3  4 роки тому +1

      Yes you are correct. It's not that effective . It would be better if it had a LSD. There is no real better way than locking diffs or electric motors on all the wheels. It's not to bad for the vehicles intended purpose.

    • @BrianCrossan-os8vo
      @BrianCrossan-os8vo Рік тому +1

      Yeah they were taking bad lines, and with AWD systems you have to hold the accelerator. Every time you lift off you’re interrupting the AWD system. This one has rear electric motors so you just have to push it and let it figure itself out.

    Where it is?
    I suspect that you used awd mode, what if the battery powering rear wheels will get discharged?

    • @MrC1N3
      @MrC1N3  5 років тому +5

      Hi, the trail is in South Africa - Koningskop . The XC90 T8 is in Off Road mode which is similar to awd but suspension is higher and the traction control is programmed differently. In Off Road mode the combustion engine power is used to generate electricity to power the rear wheels without discharging the battery.

    I know this video quite awhile, there is 1 question i want to ask all XC90 Owners..
    Let say i have similar course in the video for hours in middle of nowhere and eventually flatten out the hybrid battery.
    so my question is will eAWD will work if the battery die. Does it mean i will stranded with 2x4 drive only.? hope you guys can clarify me. this question bug me quite awhile since lately im interested with volvo and it's hybrid vehicle.

    • @MrC1N3

      Hi 👋 , so how it works is that it's very unlikely that one will use the rear electric motor 100% for a long period. So it may use some of the battery in some circumstances but the Petrol motor will always charge the battery in offroad mode. So let's say the Petrol motor can produce 60-70 % charge power. It's unlikely one would use 60-70 % power all the time during 4x4 driving. There is always a net charging gain. Basically the Petrol engine has enough generator power to supply the rear electric motor.

    This is not the vehicle to use in these conditions. Should be comparing to X5 and Q7. Range Rover, Discovery or Japanese vehicle is what you should be buying if you want to go semi serious All wheel driving.

  • @thatschill777

    That's too bad the awd seems ill-equipped for this. Was considering the vehicle as an alternative to a land rover. Not even the same ballpark off road I see.

    • @HotelGolf82
      @HotelGolf82 3 роки тому +1

      With that comparison, you should consider one of the mild hybrid version Volvo provide. These have a physical axle connecting the front and rear with great AWD capabilites. (I currently have a V60 Cross Country D4 that has impressed.)
      The hybrid drive train is not intended for this type of driving. However, I consider this video entertaining as the car sure made it even though the axles are separated on this model. 👍
