      You can actually get it massaged in the subacute phase. The therapist will start off light and then gradually increase it throughout different sessions as it heals even more. I'm still a massage therapy student, but let me know how it goes if you do!@@karenpaul4940

    I have the exact same injury from 6 years ago with 3 plates and 17 screws. Through poor treatment it is now absolutely debilitating. I’m constantly looking for relief and haven’t been able to find such a close comparison. Watching this literally brought tears to my eyes; I’m so happy I found this video! I’m going to show it to my husband and hope that he can follow along.

    Originally, I came to this video for a regular client of mine who suffered an ankle/lower leg injury due to being hit by a car recently and this video BLEW my mind! I've been a fan of Rebel's for ages and honestly I don't think I would be half the therapist I am without her. Hopefully one day I'll be able to make it out to her office across the country soon!

    Thank you so much for this video. I am so glad I found it. I just bought your Fault in Our Scars massage butter to do this massage on myself.
    I am 2 months post-op for a trimalleolar fracture in my ankle and have been walking for about 2 weeks. I have a 5-inch posterolateral incision between my Achilles and my fibula and a 2-inch medial incision on my medial malleolus. 13 screws, 2 plates total. There is very stiff and tough scar tissue on those sites now that it has healed and my ankle is also very stiff but it is slowly getting there.
    This video is extremely helpful and informative for me to do at home to reduce inflammation and increase mobility for me. Thank you so much!!!

      Your injury sounds identical to mine, right down to the scarring and the plates and screws. Mine was 5 months ago. I'm walking pretty well now, and have no pain, but there's still stiffness, and some areas of numbness. Do you mind me asking, how long did it take for that side of things to improve for you? I still have a few physio appointments to go to, but I suppose I'm just impatient now!

    I want to cry because I broke my fibula in December and still can not squat. I was a person who walked 16 miles a day, rode my bike for miles, to and from work, and in my line of work I need to be able to squat and run, two things I can no longer do. I only have a couple of physical therapy sessions left and I feel like I'll never recover. I don't have the money for massage therapy, chiropractic care, muscle and ligament scraping. The sooner you can the better and less scar tissue will develope. Depending on the severity of your injury kicking it out forward opens the joint and realigns the tendons. Less swelling will occur and get it massaged to prevent arthritis.

    You've probably been disintegrated by UA-cam since you posted this video, Ms. Rebel, but I just wanted to point out that although you may not be aware of this, you are probably one of the few massage therapists in the world who will undertake scar work. Or maybe it's just a British thing: I have a bad scar on my left elbow, and I literally cannot find a therapist in the UK who will massage it. None of them ever actually refuse to do so, or explain why they won't etc. - they just seem to be incapable of taking my request on board, or indeed of doing anything other than provided a heart-hearted squeeze of the upper-back muscles.

    With the metal work of the reconstruction surgery underneath, how do you judge force of pressure to apply against what is normal skin/adipose/muscle(s)/bone to what might be some additional metal work sitting above the surface of the bone; i.e. how much of the additional "firmness" is the scar tissue vs that there is something deep underneath that can never soften through massage ? From this comes my next query - is it possible to damage/bruise the underside of muscles against the metal work if too much pressure is applied, or is the clients report of discomfort sufficient guide ? This seems really tricky - too little force will not effect changes, too much risks discomfort and setting the patient back in freely increasing their activity levels.

    • @RebelMassage
      @RebelMassage  6 років тому +10

      This is, agreeably, very tricky. I find that it comes down to a combination of 3 things: 1 - communication with your client. 1 - experience of what tissues feel like. And 3 - deep knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Hope this helps!

      @3mandible 5 років тому +2

      Very good questions. As a Registered Massage Therapist in British Columbia, Canada, (I have trained for 3 years with 3000 hours) is very important to know what type of break. The mallolar fractures depend on their pining based on how the break is: vertical, chip, oblique, transverse, or communited. One can cause damage over structures if massaged incorrectly and even the pin and stretch can pull at the attachments by the pinned sites causing almost like a shredding effect. www.verywellhealth.com/kinds-of-medial-malleolus-fractures-broken-ankle-1337794 I really enjoy her videos but bilateral Mallolar fractures with the Masonneuve fracture ( spiral fracture of the proximal third of the fibula, tear of the distal tibiofibular syndesmosis and interosseous membrane, with rupture of the deltoid ligament ), even after 4 months, I would not be manipulating some muscles the way she does because they will be stabilizing for life and some of the scar tissue is necessary for protection and stabilization.

    Poor woman! 4 months post op and still almost no range of motion! I had a very similar fracture, surgery, and hardware on my right ankle and I am almost 2 months post op. I have a great range of motion (God bless!) despite the severity of the injury. I hope your technique helped her out! I’ve been there and it isn’t fun! Happy healing

      I was thinking the same thing. I have a trimalleolar fracture, syndesmosis ligament rupture and ankle dislocation a month ago and have more ROM than she does. I wonder if she's doing physio? Poor gal.

    HI~ did you work on proximal compensating structures or the unaffected limb first before moving to the affected area; such as the thigh/glutes? Also, what's the ratio of the time spent on the fractured limb vs the unaffected side? Great teaching by the way. It ties everything we learned in massage school.

    The reason why these kind of videos are so popular is because, in real life, you can't find a therapist to massage a scar for love nor money. I've had a scar tissue problem on my left elbow for about 20 years, and although I've had lots of massages, I have literally never found a therapist who will go anywhere near it. But then again, I'm in the UK, where everything (not just massage) is really half-arsed and amateurish, and no-one actually wants to do the work that they're paid for - so maybe that explains it.

      @@nehircan7400 Bu tür videoların bu kadar popüler olmasının nedeni, gerçek hayatta ne aşk ne de para için bir yara izine masaj yapacak bir terapist bulamamanızdır. Yaklaşık 20 yıldır sol dirseğimde yara dokusu sorunu yaşıyorum ve çok sayıda masaj yaptırmama rağmen, kelimenin tam anlamıyla yanına gidecek bir terapist bulamadım. Ama yine de, her şeyin (sadece masajın değil) gerçekten yarım yamalak ve amatörce olduğu ve hiç kimsenin parasını aldığı işi yapmak istemediği Birleşik Krallık'tayım - belki de bu bunu açıklıyor.
