I wouldn't say she blew it. She was baited by a reporter that had no business in that moment asking that question. The last thing she wanted is for the circus to follow should she have answered the other way impacting her team as they were getting ready for the game.

I know it's hard to be honest in the current political climate, especially if you're in the national spotlight. Her answer was still cowardly, but that is a tough spot to be in, I suppose.

That reporter gave Dawn Staley a great opportunity to show her support for women and women’s sports. She really “dropped the ball.” She did not show the courage under stress that she expected from her teams. She is a coward. She is now known for sabotaging women’s sports rather than the success of the women on the South Carolina’s teams. Instead of celebrating the accomplishments of women’s sports, she will be remembered as an enemy of women’s sports. What a horrendous legacy to leave.

Like many women's teams, Coach Staley's players practice against men. Gee, I wonder why? But not against the men's varsity team. Gee, I wonder why? Staley's women practice against men who are basically intramural level athletes. Yet, those men have to hold back when practicing against the varsity women - and Coach knows this. EVERYBODY knows this! While claiming to advocate for women's sports, Staley's ideological position would spell the end of women's sports if put into practice. The best women in the game would actually be men. Is she REALLY OK with that???

It's really a no-win situation because no matter her response, people will take offense. As a native South Carolinian and a Christian, I definitely was rooting for the Lady Gamecocks! When Dawn Staley praised God publicly, that was bold and I was proud that she stood by her faith...however, her statement of allowing transgender women to play in the NCAA is a direct spit in the eye of Christianity! South Carolina is a part of the "Bible Belt"...and I'm sure that many people (including my family members) do NOT agree with her statement. These young women are fighting to keep their "all girls teams." Dawn has a platform and missed out on a pivotal moment. It's truly sad indeed.
