  • Its his first time on a motorcycle with a clutch as well. We are waiting on the battery, so it was popstart city. ;-)
Perfect sized bike for him though, a little bit of work and he'll have many years of fun with it. Sorry about Toby barking in the back ground. Hes insane, we've tried every trick in the book, and he still hates motorcycles, unless hes riding on one. Ted on the other hand as you can see toward the end of the video, doesn't care one bit.

I just bought a 2017 klx140 and i have twin boys, there 9 yrs old, im so excited to get them started on riding dirt bikes, they have the small motovox pit bikes but theres no shifting on that of course. Getting young boys into riding bikes is a great way to keep them motivated and out of trouble. If more parents spent more time with there kids this world would be a better place. The excitement in your boys eyes is priceless and that will make any father feel good. Be safe and keep riding.

They are gonna love it! Daniel has since sold his. (He’s about six feet tall now.)
But it was a great bike for a long time.
It’s a very forgiving machine in the shifting department with the low home 1st gear, so they will do fine.
Daniel was a little upset that he wasn’t an instant pro, after having had a Honda 70 with no clutch, but a four speed shifter. But he got it figured out pretty quick.

      @JimsEquipmentShed  5 років тому

@@j0ker893 Well congratulations, that was about Daniels height when he first got his, he still loves it.
The best advice I can give without actually being there, is find the clutches friction point.
Just put it in first gear, and don't even add throttle at first, just find that point where it starts to grab.
Once you know where that is, it will help you a lot for taking off without stalling.
As soon as you hit the friction point, its a matter of trading places with the throttle and the clutch, as the clutch is going out, roll the throttle on.
The key is not to get too greedy in first gear.
Once its rolling, the bike will be a lot more forgiving.
Above all else, don't get too frustrated, it all takes time.
      And happy birthday!

JustinSTeam2 big Dan is 5’ 11 and about 198lbs. It hauled him really well. While he’s too tall for it, it has Plenty of power. So I’d say yes, it will do very well for you. The power is actually under rated as they rounded down on the engine CC’s. Where most manufacturers tend to round up instead.

Daniel was about 5' 3" at the time, but at 4' 9" you'll do fine with it. its a pretty low bike, but a lot of power.
They round down, instead of up like most manufacturers, so its actually more CC's than 140....
The honda 50 for example is only 49cc.

Don't mess around by cleaning just part of it.
      Junk moves around.....
Pull the entire thing apart, and soak the parts in CLR.
(I think you can get CLR from walmart)
Once everything has soaked for a few hours, use a sewing needle to make sure any holes that should be open, actually are.
(Be careful not to scratch any brass surfaces with the needle.)
And blow everything out with compressed air.
Before re-installing it, put a new fuel filter on the line.

JimsEquipmentShed thank you for the advice. I'll be upgrading to a Klx 140 soon anyway. ( that's why I'm here )

You may not have CLR then, its basically a calcium, rust, lime remover. Try the workshophero website (They are in sidney) They sell metal rescue, and it should be pretty much the same thing.
Just make sure there are no warnings on use with aluminum.
(The brass seats are generally not affected by much chemically)
white vinegar will work as well.

I think he's headed in that direction.

Yea, time flys though, he's taller than his Dad now, so the bike is heading off to a new owner soon.
