Hey man. I found your channel back in 2018. I was asking you about advice on how to convince my parents to get me a dirt bike. I now have had 2 dirtbikes a 2018 Suzuki DRZ125 and now currently a 2021 Kawasaki KLX230 R. I just want to thank you for your help.
This guy is a good teacher cuz he makes it very clear to let the clutch out slowly. So many people that teach this just say to let out the clutch they dont say slowly
I just got a new dirt bike for my 15th birthday. I never rode a dirt bike before but this is really helpful. One thing I heard you mentioned in this video that I actually did is not holding onto the brake and panicking and I crashed into a ditch. It’s a miracle that I walked out of that with just a few bruises and no severe injuries
Hahhahahhaha man me too. I had just bought my first bike at 17 and had it home less than 10 minutes before I whiskey throttled and slid down the street. But it’s a good thing to have some fear of the bike, and it taught us early on that’s it’s nothing to toy around on. Not fear, but respect. Treat it like a loaded gun, because that’s what it is. Stay safe and enjoy it bro. Wear the correct gear no matter how dumb you think it makes ya look.
@@shadowgaming7892Lol I plan on getting a yz125 within the next couple of months. I will probably take it light in first and second gear before I hit the powerband on the trails and track near my house.
Thank you for the help. I just turned 18 and bought my first dirt bike after not being allowed to as a kid. No one in my family has rode a dirt bike and this has helped me immensely. Thank you.

My mom want to get me a dirt bike but I need to learn first. She got me a small razor bike and then a big powerful one. I have learned to stand and lay down on my bikes to learn to balance and do not panic . Once I learn gears. There is no way I’m not getting one. Thanks for the video man 😁
very thorough, great vid! quick question, I've seen some bikes can't stay in neutral without the rider giving it gas, or else the bike stalls. is that a problem, with like the carb or something or is it normal for some bikes?
That would be because the idle is set too low. It’s just one screw you have to turn slightly to raise the idle and that will stop it from stalling. Great question
Awesome videos thank you for your time I’m looking to buy my first bike soon with my tax return . Anyways sorry if you mention it but When you shift gears do you need to keep giving it gas during shifting or do you need to let off the gas for a second during the shift ?

Hey man I just wanned to thank you for your amazing advise and way of explaining. I tried to ride a motor bike for the first time yesterday. Fell on the first try. Wassent in the right mindset to try again straight away. Not bc of fear but the shear adrenaline and a bit of shock. But knowing what I know now bc of you I have a feeling my next time will be a lot better
Been riding my bike for about a year and I know all of this, yet I'm still sitting here entertained lmao. Good video! Definitely is gonna help me since my bikes been in the shop for awhile though.
This video was really helpful. Thank you so much I just got a Kawasaki 250, 2023 for my birthday and this helped me out a lot especially because this is my first bike and I didn’t really know a lot about them.
Good video. I would only make one suggestion. For a person trying to learn how to ride using the clutch. Try starting in 3rd gear. Because once your clutch is engaged and you start moving the bike will have very low power Because your starting in a much bigger gear. There is less chance of blasting off and going wild rag doll like most first timers.
That could work but I think those with no experience would be more likely to stall out and possibly hurt themselves when they start in first gear after that because they will be used to giving it more throttle in 3rd gear
Gotta say bro i was rewatching your videos on how to ride a dirt bike from last year until now that i bought myself a Suzuki rm125.Thank you for the advices
Overall there are two simple keys for riding adventure motorcycles off-road - get lots of experience and swap street tires for serious dual-sport tires. (Get Continental TKC-80s. Their traction on the street and their longevity are uncompromised by their badass treads). Here are some basic off-road skills… • Favor the rear brake except in emergencies, in which case try your best to straighten the front wheel first before using the front brake and rear brake together. Using the front brake tends to make the front tire knife into the dirt surface and trip the bike up. • Similarly, keep the wheels straight when turning from asphalt to dirt, ideally making the turn completely on the asphalt part and entering the dirt surface at a 90° angle. If you enter the dirt at a shallower angle, treat it like a curve and counterbalance (see below). • Know when to be aggressive on the throttle and when to be gentle on it (sometimes the best defense is a good offense, other times overconfidence will hurt). Speed and momentum are crucial on the softer stuff, but too much will backfire and destabilize the bike. You have to develop a feel for exactly how much throttle by practicing on different surfaces. • Ride standing up in rougher terrain. That makes all the difference because it lowers the bike's center of gravity and makes it more maneuverable. Remember to keep your knees slightly bent to allow your legs to flex, and lean slightly forward on straight sections, more forward the steeper any climbs get. On downhills, reverse that and keep your butt rearwards. • When encountering a road with ruts, either stay inside the ruts or outside the ruts. The problem is continually going back and forth in and out of a rut, making it an edge trap, which can throw the bike down. If the rut is so narrow that your tires are continually hitting against the sides of the rut, that's an edge trap, so only ride outside of that rut. • When riding on softer stuff, shift your weight rearwards to give the rear tire more bite - that also has the advantage of making the front tire "ski" more, creating less drag and making it less likely to trip you. • Counterbalance generously on curves, getting your hips outside the lean and weight on the outside pegs. You should be one gear lower for the speed - that discourages swinging wide and gives you more engine braking if you encounter a surprise around the bend. Your outside leg will be mostly bent, the inside leg mostly straight. Know that you can always make your turn sharper by leaning further (I usually like to just straighten out my lower side arm for that). • When going over mounds, you need to use finesse on the throttle, going from aggressive to gentle at just the right moment heading up, then be relaxed and confident while finessing the rear brake as you go down the other side. Like with everything else, you get better at it with practice. • When encountering hard obstacles you can't maneuver around, (with your butt off the seat and legs flexed), as the front tire gets to the obstacle, hit the throttle a little as you pull up on the handlebars while leaning slightly rearwards (as if to wheelie but not actually doing so) then pogo-stick the rear suspension as the obstacle reaches your rear tire. Practice that in an empty parking lot with a piece of two-by-four. And here's a good video if you ever get seriously stuck... ua-cam.com/video/kYf2iUY4jZ8/v-deo.html
Appreciate this video; been 15+ years but my K140 is being delivered today and I’m stoked to ride it…though I know I can’t/don’t need to hop on and make a cocky-mistake.

Thankyou so mutch bro, i recently got my new dirt bike 125cc honda, i rlly struggled riding the bike and your video gave me alot of adcice, thankyou so mutch
I think the most important thing is to learn on a big field. No one masters dirt bikes in first try so if there something with a 20 foot radius I recommend you stay away take my experienced advise! My friends tried teaching me how to ride a dirtbike in the backyard and I crashed and hurt myself then a couple of years later the same thing happened. Then J went to my friends house and told him to take me to the field and I was driving the dirtbike almost as good as him in like 5 minutes. And also make sure your on the right bike never learn on a big bike or very strong one. That’s why people always say Chinese bikes are the best for beginners.
I’m getting a xpro 250 as my first bike. I know you might be thinking that’s a little much but I’ve ridden before just never owned one. Plus I got family that use to ride 🤷♂️
I just got a dirtbike for my birthday and its the same type as yours just a little different but last night me and my dad watched this video and today hes going to help me ride it because hes ridden bikes before so thanks for the video its really helpful!
My son (9) recently came to me (26) and asked if we can ride together my family never had dirtbike or anything like this so im 100% to this im trying to work up and get us both a bike i am hopefully gonna have his in a few weeks but this video has helpes me alot
Rear breaks are actually the worst brake because at high speed they kill you, at slow speed... well who want's to go slow. My best riding began back in the 90's when the bike I had (Yamaha IT200) had drum rear brakes that would fail with about 30 minutes riding after fixing them from the last ride... The result was a good habit.. Ride hard into the corner, breaking in a straight line with front only, releasing the brakes as you tip into the corner and applying throttle to ride level speed or accelerating through the corner, opening the throttle near full at a point when (and not before) you can keep the throttle open out of the corner without having to back off to get round... Once i was on the YZ250 with disk rear my riding actually got worse, higher speed but using rear brakes actually wants to stand a bike upright (or slide out) into a corner... Once I got better a bit of rear sliding in was ok if you catch it with as much throttle to keep the same slide under power... but that takes a lot of practice... If you just use front, you actually get a good feel for the front, knowing how to feather the brakes and how to 'Trail riders stomp' to recover from a loss of grip on the front... (Also swinging your inside as far forward as you can in a corner getting the weight on the front wheel (and handily putting it in the near perfect spot for a stomp) was another thing that improved my riding. And on a road bike the rear brakes are near useless and probably cause more cornering accidents than they prevent (Rear brakes cause high sides, front brakes cause low sides... I've experienced both... never knocked myself out on a low side! (subtle information there.. although it wasn't rear braking that caused that one... full throttle top gear over subtle woops on an open flat field...)
I’m learning how to ride on a 1989 KX 250 other than that my first bike was a PW 80 semi automatic i’ve also driven a manual five speed progater at my job on the golf course, which was a ton of fun

You’ll get it! You already have a better understanding than most people
Greatest instructional video I’ve watched on UA-cam🔥 thank you this saved me
Glad it helped 👌
i’m wanting to start riding bikes and figured i would learn to ride a dirt bike first, this is extremely helpful! thank you so much for this video!
S ĵ0❤
getting my first bike soon and this definitely helped out! thanks bro
Glad it helped!
I’m planning on getting a 125 and I’ve only ever rode a 110 which is just 3 gears up and no clutch but this video helped explain and now I just gotta get a dirt bike to practice on
Glad the video helped!
Can you do a part 2 that would be for a bit more advanced riding? Or maybe a transition from street to dirt? Love your attention to detail.
That’s a great idea I will add that to the list for sure
My mom want to get me a dirt bike but I need to learn first. She got me a small razor bike and then a big powerful one. I have learned to stand and lay down on my bikes to learn to balance and do not panic . Once I learn gears. There is no way I’m not getting one. Thanks for the video man 😁
Hell yeah man you’ll love it
very thorough, great vid!
quick question, I've seen some bikes can't stay in neutral without the rider giving it gas, or else the bike stalls. is that a problem, with like the carb or something or is it normal for some bikes?
That would be because the idle is set too low. It’s just one screw you have to turn slightly to raise the idle and that will stop it from stalling. Great question
@@BrapGenius but ig its not hard to just give it gas every once in a while but yeah, turn the idle up slightly
this video is better than some 'professional' teachers, u know how to not be too nice or too strickt, well done dude
Appreciate it glad it helped
Awesome videos thank you for your time I’m looking to buy my first bike soon with my tax return . Anyways sorry if you mention it but When you shift gears do you need to keep giving it gas during shifting or do you need to let off the gas for a second during the shift ?
Yes you need to keep giving it gas
You just earned yourself a new subscriber ! I love the effort you make for youre vids 😄.
Thank you!!!
Just got a new dirtbike so this is so useful thanks man
No problem glad it helped!
Bro I understood EVERYTHING in these 20 minutes bro thank you so much my man you really helped me out I just came back from a 2 hour ride with my friends and we all learned how to ride because of your video hahaha
@@armindemiri that’s awesome glad the video helped!!
Me watching this without a dirtbike or motorcycle 👁️👄👁️
@@SethVRR you’re envisioning the goal haha

Same here! 😅
this helped me start riding my kx80, i knew how to drive a manual car so i kinda understood a dirtbike but this helped me reassure things, thanks
@@ahahah445 glad the video helped!
Hey man thanks for the vid! I’m a beginner and I might be getting a cr80 as my first bike do u have any tips? I only ride a dirt bike once for about 3 seconds until I crashed into a tree bc I was also like your brother cocky, but the only experience I have is riding a quad with a clutch.
Just go slow and take your time. It’s not a race
Good stuff. I been riding around 44 years. Everyone should learn to ride and shift on a motorcycle . All ages
Hell yeah brother
hey man! i am a beginner on a dirt bike i have ridden electric a lot before and also on a semi automatic but never on a fully automatic and these tips help me a lot. thank for that and keep up with the helpful videos!
Glad it helped!! 😁
hey man, so i started off buying an xpro dirt bike that i had no idea how to ride around the beginning of 2022, i later found this video and it was so helpful. October 15th 2022, i now do youth pit bike racing and i use a honda crf125F

I’ve been riding a little 70cc that didn’t have a clutch since I was youngling, but I’m a teen now and just got a 150cc with a clutch so you answered some my questions and I just wanted to say thank you😊
Np homie
I've been saving for awhile and plan to get my first dirt bike sometime in the summer. I'm kinda scared to ride it but at the same time, I'm super excited considering that I've been waiting for this moment for thre longest
Having to wait so long is what made me love riding as much as I do
Just got a new bike for my 15th birthday, I haven’t rode in 9 or so years. This video helped a lot!
Glad it helped have fun with the bike!!
You for this don’t give up!
thanks bro, had a bike for my 15th and had no clue of how to handle and control the bike, i watched this video a couple times and know all the basics.
Congrats on the bike! You’ll get it in no time
My guy
If I were a beginner I would have paid you for this video .this was the most useful video on the internet 🤣 😂 👏 👌
Lmao glad it helped!
You're the greatest teacher alive. Genuinely thanks a lot
No problem!
One thing i can't seem to find on youtube is how to downshift on a dirtbike. wish more people would make a video on that. Great video!
I have a video for it on a motorcycle it’s the same concept. Go look under my “motovlogs” playlist you’ll see it there
Thank you! I'm getting a dirt bike next month, and this really helped me worry less about riding.
Glad the video helped!
Been riding my bike for about a year and I know all of this, yet I'm still sitting here entertained lmao. Good video! Definitely is gonna help me since my bikes been in the shop for awhile though.
Haha people love to come back and reminisce on when they started!
I Feel Like A Newbie, But While Watching Ur Video Man I Feel Like I've Been Born To Ride Bikes/Motorcycles 🏍️
Thank You 🙏🏾 For Giving Me A Tutorial To Learn!

I ordered a 125cc bike and this is really teaching me thank you
No problem glad it helped!
This video was really helpful. Thank you so much I just got a Kawasaki 250, 2023 for my birthday and this helped me out a lot especially because this is my first bike and I didn’t really know a lot about them.
No problem glad the video helped!
That’s great congrats on the bike!!
Overall there are two simple keys for riding adventure motorcycles off-road - get lots of experience and swap street tires for serious dual-sport tires. (Get Continental TKC-80s. Their traction on the street and their longevity are uncompromised by their badass treads).
Here are some basic off-road skills…
• Favor the rear brake except in emergencies, in which case try your best to straighten the front wheel first before using the front brake and rear brake together.

Appreciate this video; been 15+ years but my K140 is being delivered today and I’m stoked to ride it…though I know I can’t/don’t need to hop on and make a cocky-mistake.
Welcome back to the bikelife! Just take it easy until you get comfortable with a bike again. Congrats!
thanks for the video! I'm 17 and saved up a decent amount of money, and this gave me a really good idea of the basics. now i can hopefully convince my parents to let me buy a bike.
That’s awesome good luck! If they say no at first he persistent and ask every few days or once a week. Tell them you saved up money yourself and so you’re showing you’re responsible

I was always told to start bikes with the clutch in even when its in neutral, just to be safe. Just something I do, crazy how its just a habit for me now
It’s a good habit to have honestly
Thankyou so mutch bro, i recently got my new dirt bike 125cc honda, i rlly struggled riding the bike and your video gave me alot of adcice, thankyou so mutch
Np glad it helped!
All great points
I’m getting a xpro 250 as my first bike. I know you might be thinking that’s a little much but I’ve ridden before just never owned one. Plus I got family that use to ride 🤷♂️
I think that’s a great bike to have because you can grow into it, ride safe and have fun!

You’re doing a great thing for your family man best of luck. Glad the video helped!!
This was actually really helpful! Thanks dude
I am currently saving to get a bike, and this will help me alot

That’s dope keep going!!
Bro I never comment but this video answered every single question possible. My 150cc is acc cmng in a few days so Im just practicing.
