  • I found these hard-to-find String of Dolphins (Senecio Peregrinus) at the store but they are not in the best condition so I bought 2 pots. I did my best to repot them and try to save the plant. Wish me luck!

String of Dolphins is such a pretty succulent but you're right, the soil it was in was not so good. Thankfully you noticed it early and was able to repot to avoid further damage to the plant.

The bare stems propagate easily in water I did the same thing when I bought mine and realized the soil was way too water retentive and basically I chopped the entire plant and I’m rerooting the whole plant but there were a lot of bare stems from the leaves falling off. As long as they were still green I put them all in a propagation vessel and the stems sent out root surprisingly quickly and new leaves started to grow after a couple weeks the original pot had a few short stems and after letting it dry out they are beginning to grow new leaves as well. I’ll wait maybe another month and repot to replace the soil like you have done and by that time the cuttings I had taken will be well ready to be potted up and I hope to have an extremely full plant with a good chance at success.

Thanks for your comment! I will try to propagate some stems in water and see what happens. Hope your stems are growing well and that you'll have a full plant soon. I noticed that I need to water these more than other succulents. Could be the potting mix I'm using is extremely fast draining. Good luck growing your string of dolphins!

Yes they need more water relative to other succulents but I still water lightly and not like a regular houseplant. One thing I’ve noticed about this plant is if you have it under a strong led grow light the plant will become sun stressed and turn into an amazing shade of blueish purple with pink stems I like the effect the light gives this plant I’m sure it’ll go back to green once I put it in natural light.
