- Learn how to repot String of Pearls plant in this video and I go over a lot of care tips for how I manage to keep mine happy and grow well. This is a very chatty repot with me but I hope you learn how to care for you string of plants if you seem to be struggling with yours and can take away anything from this video!
* Also, these are just my care tips and what works for me, keep in mind everyone's environment is different and what works for me may not work for you!
String of Pearls Care Tips:
1. Lots of light! Mine love south light
2. Water when the soil has dried. I water when I notice the pearls begin to soften and I give a thorough drink!
3. Chunky potting mix with added perlite, bark and charcoal.

I searched EVERYYYWHERE for shallow hanging terracotta pots with no luck. I finally discovered terracotta "bulb pans" which are shorter pots and I plan to drill holes in the side and add some string myself. I am going to pot up my SOT, VSOH and VSOP in them and I'm so excited! Had to watch this video before I did anything to give me some courage haha. Any advice you want to give or anything you'd change (since this was posted several months ago)?

Melissa - I'm not sure you actually realize how good your videos are now. The lighting is perfect, the autofocus works perfectly, the plant closeups are OMG seriously the best of any planty channel.
We have a large TV so your plants are like 4 feet across (lol), and the detail and high definition are just a joy to watch!

Wow, what a plant mat! The iridescence gives it a lot of pizazz. From a style and artistic standpoint It certainly compares very favorably to the piece of grungy old scrap plywood that I use!? I’m kind of attached to the plywood, however, and I’ve certainly done a lot of plant care tasks on it. I’m also very impressed that just a single pearl detached during the repotting. Great touch on your part. Enjoyed this video as always. Thanks.

String of hearts is my favorite! Mine started really small and they grow so well and fast! I water mine a bit more often than the pearls. The pearls can be finicky but as long as they good light they should grow well for you! :)

My favourite plant
I no longer use pots with “waists” - those with more of an urn shape. When it’s time to repot, you can’t easily get the plant and soil out of the pot to move it because of the fatter bottom portion and the narrower neck/waist.
I like String of Dolphins 🐬 are too cute, Variegated Pearls, and Little Pickles (the magenta purple is everything!)

I found string of dolphins and string of bananas at my local Tractor Supply for less than $3. Put 2 in each pot and they are growing like wildfire!!!
My favorite is Ruby Necklace. My SOP is finally showing growth after almost 6mos!

This is great, thanks for sharing. Would you be able to do a video on how you propagate the SOP in moss? I just got a dehydrated SOP from a friend as a rescue and would love to see how your process is like. 😊
I just got a variegated SOP so I wanted to rewatch this and I’m glad I did! I read that the SOP wants part sun and I was pretty sure you give yours high light! Fingers crossed big time that mine gets as long and lovely as yours 😊

Right now Melissa my favorite string of plants is the string of turtles. My next acquisition will be the string of shields and I’ve heard of string of daggers but never seen one.

I just got my first string of pearls and I am getting ready to repot it since it is in a hideous looking cactus pot so this is really helping me It's a glazed pot in and out and I'm noticing that you're not using any kind of glaze pot Can it be glazed on the outside but left terracotta on the inside so I can get it to match my decor

Have you ever had your pearls start getting more elongated? I'm not sure why but mine started changing.
I just got a string of bananas from Home Depot & I put it in my West facing window so hoping that’s enough light for it.
West is good light!! I feel as long as it’s in the window so it gets enough sun it should grow well for you! :)

I got a string of dolphins at a big box store and it was so over watered most of it died within a few days. Try to rehab the 2 little strings that are left, I won’t be getting a “string of” at a big box store again.
Oh no, that stinks! Sometimes the pots get so full of water and they don’t drain it makes me sad :( I hope what’s left can make a good comeback for you! 🤞🏼🥰

I really like the way that planter looks but concerned about soil level being so high and touching the knots that are inside the pot. They’ll wick the water from the soil and eventually rot and the planter will crash to the floor. When you watered it I could see the water drip out of the holes near the rim. 🪴❤️
