    These are a beautiful plant. I have several in hanging pots and baskets. When they get too long I just snip some off the bottom and put it directly in potting mix. I started with a 2 inch cutting and now have about 10 plants of around 50cm length

    Coincidentally, a few days ago I got two strings at home depot for 50% off. They were dry as a bone, but still in salvageable condition. 2 6in. pots for $10 total.😁 I'm happy, it was my first time seeing them in a big box store. They seem to me to be kinda pricey online.
    Btw, I always bottom water mine (I tend to worry about overwatering).

    The key to any kind of succulent is well draining soil and not over watering, I water my string of dolphins, string of melon, string of lemon, string of bananas, string of pearls etc once very 2 or 3 weeks and they all thrive.

  • @grandmaof8
    @grandmaof8 3 роки тому

    Erica just one thing that I believe that you may have left out of this video yes what I have learned from other UA-camrs who root succulents in water and then transfer to dirt. I believe you need to keep the dirt saturated for a Time until the water roots are adapted to the soil and or the succulent grows dirt roots. I don't know how long this takes but then you just taper off the water slowly and then water like you would any other succulent waiting for the soil to completely dry out

    • @ErikaLodes
      @ErikaLodes  4 роки тому +2

      Thank you! Bottom watering does take some time, you can fill a tub & let your plant sit in the water for around half an hour depending how big the pot is. If you’re nervous about it, you can stick in a moisture meter to see how high the water has risen :-) I’m impatient, so often times I will water a plant with a saucer underneath & just let it soak up the extra. It sounds like a good video topic, so I will probably make a video on it in the future :-)

    I was wondering what other plants you use this soil/medium for 🤔 succulents? Hoyas?
    I think I have picked some of the hardest plants to grow! I have bought many clearanced plants lost some of them. Bought 2 large phalinopsis orchids $5. & $1 ! They do sometimes have a peat plug. Yes take it out and use hydrogen peroxide to clean off the fungus / mold! I highly recommend watching Emaan's Garden I think🤔 on UA-cam she is excellent with orchids so is Margaret East❣️ Wishing you the best of luck with your rescue 💞

    I noticed that my dolphin has a few strands that are dark, thin, and limp where they meet the soil. I assume it was because they were over watered before I got them but not sure. How can I save them in addition to propagating those particular strains? Some others are starting to go limp. :(

    I live in Connecticut and about 2 months ago I bought a beautiful pot of dolphins. Unfortunately they came with mealybugs and nematodes. I gave it the old alcohol bath, I know a little bit about succulents. ( I'm by far not an expert but I've been able to keep my 100 plus plants alive thus far)
    I actually had two spray it again the other day. My question is this, the plant doesn't seem to be recovering very well. It's a very dull grayish green color. The tips of the strings where the new Dolphins emerge are very gray. Is this just from the alcohol spritzing? I did propagate a very small piece that broke off and it's absolutely gorgeous, shiny and bright green.
