Important tip: if you want to buy a ticket for a person who is between 6-12 years old or over 65 years old you may buy reduced price tickets from a railway ticket cashier. They are valid on the metro , busses and trams too. You just have to ask for reduced tickets and they will give you the ticket valid on the metro. They cost as follows: Single ticket - 0.50 (instead of 1.20) 2-trip ticket - 1.00 5-trip ticket - 2.50 11-trip ticket - 5.00 Airport ticket - 4.50 The prices are in euros, and valid as of October 2024. Until a few years ago it was possible to get discounted tickets in metro cashiers, but it's no longer possible unless you issue a card. However you won't have an issue if you go to a railway cashier instead.
I'm travelling to Athens in Feb 2025 - both myself and my travelling buddy are Autistic and have physical disabilities. The level of detail in this video was SOOOOOOOOO helpful!!!! I feel so much calmer now! Thank you so much!
Athens is great and there’s so much to experience when you walk. Plus, the health and financial benefits can’t be beat, haha! Thank you for watching and leaving a comment Tobias! 😊❤️👍🏽
Great video. So helpful. Was it easy finding WiFi to connect to for using Uber or google maps? I read something about getting an eSIM card. Is that needed?
Hey DeeTee- thanks for watching! Wifi was available at every hotel, but to navigate I used my home cell phone plan (international coverage w/ data) for convenience. It’s usually cheaper to get an eSim for wifi, so if you want to save money it’s worth it 👍🏽😊
Awesome, thank you so much deneward! 😊 I appreciate you taking the time to watch and leave great feedback. Feel free to check out the other videos on my channel-I hope you enjoy them just as much. If you have any questions, let me know ❤️
Be careful. Cruise port is in a different side of the port than the Ferries to the islands. All stops mentioned are near the FERRY port and really far from the Cruise port. The 1 mile distance mentioned is from the metro stops to most ferries, but there is also a free bus that has a route inside the port fence towards the departing ferries.
Happy to help yoniyakori! Hailing a taxi for 5 might be difficult (to almost non-existant). In the alternative, you can: 1) split up and take two taxis, 2) take the metro or bus, or 3) reserve an airport pickup service for everyone (typically priced per person).
Nice video. But in your video the map of the Metro shows the blue line as under construction. That map is out of date. The Blue line/line 3 was completed quite a while ago. Now goes all the way from airport to Pireaus/Dimotiko Theatre. So you can get a Metro direct from airport to the port without changing. 0:04
Hello! It depends on what sights you’re looking to see. In my Acropolis tips video I walk through the process of purchasing tickets for the Acropolis and other ancient sights. Feel free to check it out: ua-cam.com/video/0lcaLi67mMo/v-deo.html other than there are group tours you can take that will feature a majority of sights
Two years ago we took a taxi from the airport to our hotel. It was at night. The lighting outside the airport was so bad, you couldn’t see the number plates on the taxi. The traffic was horrific with people and taxis everywhere. It cost 50 euros. It was quite stressful, but once we were in the taxi, it was good. When we left, we took the train from syntagma. You had to change trains once. It was pretty simple, especially for us as we were 65 and 71 years old respectively. We are going back next week and we are taking the train.
Thanks for sharing! Taking a taxi can be stressful - especially at night or early in the morning - and other times it can be easy. It’s awesome that you tried two different methods to see which one works best for you!
Never make this mistake and take a taxi from the Airport! it is cheaper to take a train and they feature racks for baggage. However only suburban railway and airport metro feature these and if you want to change lines you won't have this option. You can take the train to a central (or wherever your destination is) location and depending on the number of passengers and baggage you may take a taxi from there.
@@goatgamer001 Thank you. We are currently in Athens. We took a taxi because we have too many bags as we are going to be in Europe for 5 months with our son who lives here.
@@georgech10 Thank you, we had a great time. We just returned today after nearly three months in Europe. We enjoyed our stay in Athens and it was extremely hot.
Watched your video in preparation for an upcoming trip with my wife and 6 year old. Great info! Thanks! One question though. We will be in Athens for the first 3 days of our trip and then off to Kymi to visit with a friend for 3 days, then back to Athens for a day before flying out. My quesion is, if I get the 3-day tourist pass for the first leg of our trip, will I still be able to use the return ticket for the airport a few days later (after the 3-days pass has expired)?
Awesome, thanks for watching Diere 🙂 Sounds like you have a great family adventure planned! If you purchase and use the three day pass it will expire after three days, so the return trip must take place within the three day period.
Thank you for the video, planning a trip in December with family. What are your thoughts for December travel, I understand it is a bit cold (not too much problem with this), but what about rain?
Happy to help, Dan! While it can be a bit cooler, December has some wet days, but it's not excessive. You can expect around 8-10 rainy days throughout the month (if anything at all as temperatures heat up around the world), so it's a good idea to bring a raincoat or an umbrella just in case. 🌧 The city is less crowded, and you can enjoy the historic sites and festive holiday atmosphere - minus any holiday closures. Plus, many indoor attractions like museums and galleries are perfect for rainy days 😊👍🏾
Hi, thank you for clear video and complete information. I read about discount fare for kids. Do u have information about it? How to get it and is it apply to all or only citizen? Thank you in advance.
Hi. Im having a plan trip possibly end of September. Can you help to explain to me how a 5 single ticket pack works? If a group of 4 using the 4 single tix, that means only 4 tix are validated, right? what happen for the 5th tix? Can i still use it after 24 hours?
Hey Syadza! Sure, no problem - the 5 single ticket pack is just five, 90-minute single tickets bundled together. The tickets are not activated/validated until you use them, so the 5th ticket will be available to you whenever you decided to use it. Plus, you can still use the 5th ticket after 24hrs since it's not activated until you use it. I hope this helps - happy planning! 😊
In Athens, not only are transport tickets so cheap compared to other european capitals, but they are also optional as checks are very rare and can be easily avoided!
The x busses are ridiculously slow. if you are heading to the city centre or pireaus, it is more comfortable to take the train or metro. There is also the x93 route which takes you to kifisias station, where you can change for the suburban railway (this can save you 2.30 euro in exchange for more waiting time). You can also do the tap trick; what i mean is that you can take the train for one (it is better to take it for two or three stops as there's more service) stop and then tap out and in with a regular ticket. this will cost you only 6.70 instead of 9 euros. just be ready for waiting many minutes at a hot-cold station, depending on the season, for the next train to the city.
The taxi will take you to the cruise terminal gate, but be sure to check your boarding documents to see which gate you are located at so you can notify the driver. Depending on the ship size, time of day, etc the gate number may vary, but from what I understand there is a free shuttle that will take you between gates if needed.
Have you ever taken a memorable taxi/Uber/lift ride? 🚘 😂 Share your experience in the comments below!

@douaarayan8791 Yes. Just look for the Metro going to Dimotiko Theatro/Δημοτικο θεατρο. The Pireaus stop is one before the end.
Thank you for the very informative video😊

The suburban train takes you to athens station in 45 minutes and there's also interchange with a metro route and electric railway.

A bit off topic but for the acropolis and sites combo ticket does it come with an audio guide ?

Hey! The tickets do not come with an audio guide, but you may be able to find an a free audio guide through Rick Steve’s podcasts 👍🏽

What is the best public trasportatoon to take from the airport to the center of athens?
I like taking the metro - there’s no traffic and you get there pretty fast 🚇 😊
Taxi you cannot book. Forget it. Walk yes. But in heat best of luck
