I don't know why but these videos are my favorite. I study tailoring and I had a problem with fabric because it has to be sustainable and i was watching this and i totally forgot about fabric thrifting.

I’m so happy I found your channel, I’ve been learning to sew on my grandma’s ancient sewing machine and she’s decided to buy me my own machine for Christmas. I’m very excited to start making some of my own things soon! 🥰

PLEASE make what you describe as "an OTT 80S taffeta/tulle ballgown dress" from that vintage pattern 😍😍😍 I'm totally feeling that vibe rn and would love to see how you approach it. I've been sewing for almost a year now and find your channel so inspiring (and also reassuring because you are so kind and relatable!!). Greetings from Cape Town and thank you for your wonderful videos! 🧵🧶🪡

You're not wrong about the gingham at spotlight. I literally stood in front of all the gingham for 30mins umming and ahhing about which colour/check size/texture. Landed on the most beautiful buttery yellow colour with the teeniest check size gingham in that crinkly texture. So excited to make a little baby dress and headband out of it!

The fabric that seemed to scream, “make me into an overall mini dress” was the plaid that you bought from Spotlight. Bib pocket, braces, etc. For summer you could wear little light tops and tees, then winter match it with your roll necks! Loved the linen gingham too! Susan

Looks like it's time to call into Spotlight again! I love the giant B&W gingham and the retro print fabric you bought there. I can't wait to see that fabulous blanket made up into a coat. Back in the 80s, I had a duffle coat made from a Navajo blanket design fleece and I loved it! The colours were so rich and the style of coat suited my needs perfectly. Despite having purchase the coat at Myers, I never once saw anyone else wearing one.
The patterns you picked up brought back lots of memories too. The ruffled wedding dress in particular as I had a few dresses in a similar style way back when.

Love your choices and esthetic. In the US we call the large check print you purchased in black and white, buffalo check, an obvious reference to the giant western mammals most at home in Montana, Wyoming and the Plains states. Thought I'd share a bit of regional wardrobe/ fabric nomenclature. 😉 Thanks for the vicarious shopping trip and your including thrifted items. I have vintage sheets and tablecloths waiting for me to pullout my machine. I can't wait to see your custom blanket coat.

Fun finds! I just started sewing this year and use only thrifted fabric. Originally I used thrifted fabric because I was not very good. If the project came out awful, oh well, at least I learned something. I also started with thrifted garments. I cut them apart and used the fabric. Most of my supplies are thrifted. Buttons, bias tape, zippers, zippers and more zippers. I probably have too many zippers! I am so surprised how quickly the supplies accumulated. My fabric stash is almost out of control! Once I found a huge tub and half of a garbage bag of vintage patterns totalling $15. So that's in my stash too. Oh boy.

Great fabrics and patterns you purchased . I can’t believe you found New Look 6266, I’m pretty sure this is the pattern my mum used to make my sister’s bridesmaid dresses for me and my other sister in a heavy peach fabric. I still have the dress in the attic from 1989.

Loved your fabric choices. The texture of the blanket you've bought is because of use not bobbling.I have a similar one from my parents, you can leave it as it is or, gently, brush it to give a longer, softer texture. Either way, it'll look gorgeous as a coat or bedspread.Sizes in the past were much smaller than they are now,so,a pattern from the 70's/80's in a size 10 would equate to a size 12/14 today.i love your style and I'm looking forward to your makes.

Hi Janelle. Discovered your channel today. I am hooked! My mother grew up during The Depression and women used whatever type of fabric they could lay their hands on no matter where it came from. I love your take on older patterns.
The rusty spotting on the patterns is called "foxing" in the book vintage book trade. I have never seen an iron like yours! Brilliant! Happy sewing!

I believe the black and white check gingham is also known as Buffalo check or plaid.
I was also in Spotlight on Saturday but in Adelaide. All I got was 1.6 metres of a stretch grey, for a maxi skirt. Hubby, however, got a ton of embroidery cotton. No, he's not into embroidery but the thread is perfect for fishing flies which he makes.

Your fabric shopping videos are always lush! 😍 You are so lucky to find so much beautiful stuff. Yesterday I went to a charity shop and found an XXL man's shirt in a lovely lilac striped good quality cotton fabric, which I plan to refashion into a blouse. Nowhere near as easy as using a table cloth or sheet, but very satisfying when it works out 😁 Keep taking us with you when you go on your "op shopping" trips!

    • @RoseryApparel
      @RoseryApparel  3 роки тому +1

I need to make a whole video covering this I think! Basically after a while you get a pretty good idea how much fabric you need for a certain project. For example, for my size I get around 2.5-3 metres for a dress and around 1.5-2 metres for skirts and blouses. Usually as soon as I see a fabric I know the type of garment I want to make from it 😊 I also recommend getting a little more fabric then you think you’ll need just in case! x

I adore the op shop blanket Janelle and I think you were lucky to find so many patterns. I have never been that successful yet, usually just stuffed in a shoebox and scarce as hen's teeth ....if there are any at all! Spotlight is my favourite fabric store and I love all the ginghams, particularly the textured ones, and any design that comes in linen! Looking forward to your amazing creations, you are going to be sew busy!🥰

I also have the textured green cotton. I got it in mustard as well. I don’t know what I’m doing with them but I couldn’t pass it up

You should make your matching Christmas outfits out of that amazing fabric that Matt liked too!

I’m so curious about thrifting vintage patterns…what do you do when one has been cut to a size already? I’m brand new to sewing clothes so I have no idea. 😅
