I love this border. Thank you for taking time to show us this stitch. Its great to see videos that take their time showing us how to do a stitch without going so slow trying to teach how to crochet single crochet stitches, etc, which is another video to learn before this one. Thanks bunches for all you do for us! ⚘️🌷🪻
This video came at the right time. I have finished my first rug, single crochet, crocheted a single crochet all around and now I know how to finish the border. Just a matter of choice.
Wonderful tutorial, made my baby blanket a completely different, more polished project, I was proud to gift it to my baby niece this Christmas. Thank you so much
Hi. I just found you and watched this video on borders. So glad I did. I learned something new. No one has ever explained how to do the SC corners but you. Weird right? But, you are terrific and you have a new subscriber. You're a great teacher. Can't wait to see more of your videos
Thank you for tutorials about four different borders, your instructions are thorough and so easy to understand. I’m trying to decide what border to use on a basket weave baby blanket I’ve just made and I want it to be simply and not complete with the design of the weave. Do you have any suggestions, I’m in the middle of another blanket for my future great grandchild so I have a little time to wait for your reply. Many thanks Judy
Hi Judy! Congratulations on the new grandbaby! 🎉 For a basket weave blanket, I’d opt for a simple border. This way, the focus stays on the main blanket stitch. I’ve used a single crochet border in the past (also for a basket weave), and it looked great! I made it about 2 inches wide. Happy crocheting!
Love the borders, thank you MB.. Do you have a tutorial for the Heart Filet Blanket you taught the border on, please please!? Just what I’m looking for! Can’t find it anywhere & I’m not good at making up patterns!! MANY thanks in advance 😊j c
@@ModeBespokeThank you for your reply🙂 I looked at the picture of the heart itself & maybe I can work from that sometime (really must finish WIPs first!! Best wishes j c
Thank you! Well, I’ve got a baby niece arriving in Dec, and I’d been wondering what to make her. Now, thanks to you 🙏🏼, I’ll be making her a hearts blanket 😊 I think I’ll just rework the pattern and make it square tiles and go from there 🤔 Anyway, look out for that tutorial bc I will be making one before Dec. Thank you so much!
In all the videos I've watched on borders, you are the first person that does 4 stitches in your border corners on the first row rather than 3, can I ask what you feel makes that better? I dont see a lot of difference.
My corners usually cup, possibly due to a tighter tension or resulting from using a smaller hook for my borders than I do the blanket. Adding a stitch fixes it.
You can use any of the 4 borders in this video. I replied to your email in which you included a photo of the blanket (it’s lovely, well done!) I’m not sure if you’ve seen it in your inbox yet.
Can I suggest you show a photo sample of all 4 of the borders you are making in this video instead of making people watch the whole video to see the 4 borders?
Not at the moment. I pulled down the one I had, as it had some errors and did not match the pattern (which may have also contained errors). They’ll be back up as soon as I correct them and re-film the tutorial. 🙂
Oh 🍀🍀sorting the pattern out! I find filet crochet quite difficult somehow to get correct #s of sts! That’s why I am also asking uf you have the pattern🙂❤️ j c
I don't know I got a bit lost in trying to listen and see it. I am a hands on learner so trying to see the holes and listen to where you are explaining things confused me....
I tried to link to the pattern, but the page resulted in error. Can you tell me what kind of yarn you were using for the pretty blue border on the heart blanket?
Thank you so much for letting me know! I took down the pattern as it needs some additional work, but I’ll post something when it’s up again. As for the yarn, I believe it was Caron Simply Soft 🤔 Really, any yarn with a sheen will look fantastic with that stitch.
Can we use a different yarn weight on the border than from the blanket? I ask because I could not find the same weight in the color I wanted to use for border. The blanket is a 5 but the border color I got was a 4. How would you incorporate that so it looks right? Thanks
Absolutely! That’s the beauty of handcrafting, you can make anything! I’ve used different weight yarns for several blanket projects, and it comes down to what look you want to give it. I like the obvious difference between the two because it creates a very distinct border, and since you mentioned using a different color for the border, I’m guessing you are ok with making the border stand out? I’d start by testing out the stitch you want to use for your border with the same hook you used for the blanket. If it doesn’t look the way you want, then use a smaller hook. Depending on how big the stitches on the blanket are, you may even want to try using a small hook (3.72 or 4.25) and work two border stitches into each of the blanket stitches. If you can’t find the look you’re going for, email me. We can brainstorm. :)
Hi, I love the way you explained the borders. I just finished knitting a baby blanket in raspberry stitch and want to crochet a border. Since I am a beginner, I should have knit each stitch at the end of each row to make adding a border much easier, but I did not think of it in the beginning. Too late now. I am going to crochet a single crochet around full blanket and then I would like to try a shell around for second row. I will look on your site for a tutorial on how to accomplish this. Thank you.
The original pattern (the one in the tutorial) had several errors in it. I te-worked it and now it’s called Emma’s Blanket. The colors are different, but the construction of the hearts is the same. Emma’s Blanket, Crochet Heart Blanket ua-cam.com/video/BxnSyb9agi0/v-deo.html
Hi I just found this tonight and enjoyed it. BUT I am very new at crocheting and always have difficulty with my corners!! They end up being wavy!! I was trying to make a thick single crochet border. 8 times around the blanket. Started of with 3 single crochet, chain 1, 3 single crochet in the same hole. Then the rounds after that first row was single crochet, chain one, single crochet in the same hole. AND still wavy corners.....what am I doing wrong??
Hi there! Thank you! You know, I used to have the same problem! It was so frustrating! Wavy usually means you have too many stitches. So I’d try reducing the number of SC in that first row. Start by removing one SC, crochet a few rounds and see it that helps. If it is still wavy, remove one more. Hope it helps!
@@ModeBespoke ok I am making another one the same.....so I'll try this. Its weird because I followed a pattern..... but I am going to try what you say with this one. Thanks
Sure thing! Let me now how it works out. Remember that a pattern is just a guide, love. We all crochet differently, so it may just be that your stitches are slightly larger than those of the person who wrote the pattern. I have to adjust patterns to fit my crochet needs all the time! You got this! 🙌🏻
@@ModeBespoke Ohhhhhhhh ok got ya!! Awesome advice thank you. I do got this! I am enjoying making baby, lap, child blankets and afghans. I am ready to try different things like headbands, scarves etc. But I really want to attempt to make myself a cardigan. Been watching a few videos and although they seem intimidating, if I take my time I can do this. BUT I am also going to try the basic easiest one I can find out there. many thanks!!
You can do it! I believe in you!! They are a little intimidating, aren’t they? I still have a few cardigan videos sitting on my “watch later” playlist that I’ve been wanting to start.....but am a little too chicken to. We will both have cardigans though! 🤞🏼 maybe this next year is the year!

How can I send you a photo of my blanket? It's my first crochet blanket and I did the classic 1st-timer wonky edges. Can it be fixed?
You can emails me: atenas@modebespoke.com
Can this border be used to fix wonky edges? My first crochet project was a blanket, but the edges look awful. Is it fixable?

Where can we find the hearts a blanket pttern?
Here is the updated version of the blanket:
ua-cam.com/video/BxnSyb9agi0/v-deo.html
What happens if you don’t close the round and instead you just keep going around and around?
Nothing. That’s normally what I do with a border and it works and looks just fine.
What color blue is that?
Turquoise. It’s a yarn called Craft Smart Value, a bargain acrylic avail at Michaels stores in the U.S.
Can you make a blanket with border first?
Ok, I’ll add it to the tutorial list. Thank you for the suggestion!
What video are you talking about all I saw her doing was corners
I call it an extended single crochet xx
Nice! Thank you for sharing 🙂
Great tutorial, but by the time we're advanced enough to make a border, don't we know how to make an SC?
Thank you! I’m sure most folks do, but I go over it for that one person who might not. 🤷🏻♀️
