This song hits home in a surreal way. Whiskey Myers is from a town here in East Texas and the strip club Time Out is a very real place on highway 155 in Tyler, Texas that i pass everytime i go to my father’s house. East Texas also has somewhat of a meth problem, so while i don’t know for sure if this song is a true story, it most definitely comes from a real place. Glad you guys covered this one.

My mom lived out on 155. Died there. More than a meth problem. I grew up on 64 by Bellwood Lake. That's a dark area. The Pine Curtain.

It’s such a depressing, tragic song. It’s beautiful and it really hits me hard sometimes. I’ve lost several friends to drinking and drugs and meth has ravaged my hometown so it really hits home.

I know I’m alittle late to this review, but I just discovered y’all and I’ve been bingeing your videos. This song, is so damn good. It is haunting and beautiful in its own way. The fact that it is based on a true story, just adds an addition layer of meaning. I’m from Tyler, TX and I pass Time Out all the time, and it always reminds me of this song.
Also, fun fact: My dad used to work on their tour bus. He said they are real friendly.😋

A friend of mine played this at his sisters funeral. This song couldn’t be more true about her life. Every. Word. I was in tears as older church people sat around me maybe not realizing how severe the drug epidemic really is. Sitting amongst an older generation of people that are fading out and also the younger generation of those who see drugs as a way of life...That poor girl. She was meant to be a star...she was meant to be so much more. RIP Justine 1/15/20

You know, I’ve listened to this song dozens of times, driving back and forth to work and what not, just jamming out on my commute. I’ve always heard the lyrics and pictured the story but never really thought about how deep this is until I watched this before I went to work this morning, and it was all I could think about on the way in this morning. Then I got to thinking about how tangible this is in small town, rural America. They’re a lot of small, quite hick towns around that have serious issues that most don’t see, that get over looked. I have a buddy on the local volunteer fire department a couple towns over and got to thinking about this song and the stories he tells about all the OD calls they’ve been getting lately. Heroine is a major problem here. There’s people I’ve met randomly at places that you see in obituaries a few weeks later that died from their vices. Now every time I hear this song, I’m going to look at it completely differently, but it’s good thing though. Keeps you on your toes as to how you view people you see and meet. You never know their situation, and sometimes those closest don’t know until it’s too late.

If I must say the way the story was told within the lyrics was really good as if I was actually imagining those words verbatim as it was being sung. For 2 people that are listening to this song for this first time with no back story, you have an amazing understanding of this song and its lyrics. I have always felt that it's written from the viewpoint of someone who has been in love with a woman his entire life that has never loved him back the same way and never loved herself. I used to work in a County jail with female inmates. At night, after lockdown, I would play this and some other music loud enough for them to hear in their cells. I felt it brought some humanity to a rather inhumane situation. I didn't play this song for any other reason than it was on my playlist of favorites. Surprisingly, this song actually sparked a lot of really good and really deep conversations between me and the inmates. I remember one young lady in particular who was only about 22 and pregnant. She was getting released soon and due to have her baby shortly after. She said that the song reminded her of her and her boyfriend who was also locked up. She said, through tears, that it gave her inspiration to get out and never touch another drug again. She said it reminded her that she was always going to have to focus on her baby and staying clean. It was a real tear-jerking moment for me. For anyone that's wondering, I'd been doing that job for 11 years at that point. I'm a guy, a former Marine, a war Vet, and I once got hit by a car and dislocated my knee without crying. I put my knee back into joint without crying. I don't cry. That moment almost had me crying. Dammit Whiskey Myers......

Just saw them live for the 1st time a couple weeks ago. I've seen a lot of great acts live and they are by far the best live band I've ever heard.
If you've never seen them in concert you owe it to yourself to. You won't regret it and it will be one of the best experiences of your life.
It's the closest thing to seeing someone like Lynyrd Skynyrd or The Allman Brothers live in their prime. I took my Uncle who saw Skynyd live in 1976 and The Allman Brothers around the same time and he teared up at 1 point because he said it took him back

Yep. Whiskey Myers did this song and ongoing story justice. Additionally, the 2 young men reacting did an excellent job. Would like to see more. How about Oh Mother of Mine by the Temptations. Paul Williams (suicide) sang the lead. I mention the Temps because drugs and alcohol are still killing us and leaving broken souls behind. 8 months sober here and praying for all of us.

I can relate to this song though. Went through it with my cousin for about 10 years. And this songs paints a pretty accurate picture about what it's like to know someone before they go through an addiction to hard drugs (specifically crystal meth, in her case). It's rough knowing there's nothing you can do to bring the old them back.
Luckily, she's making a recovery though. She'll be 90 days sober this month and she's starting to get her character back.

Prayers for your cousin, hopefully she will be able to beat her addiction. My brother has been an addict for his entire adult life and he is 44 now and still on a destructive path. Having lost a couple of friends and an ex husband to this lifestyle, I know how painful it is to watch someone you love ruin their life. It is gut-wrenching. I wish your cousin all the love and luck in the world. Be strong in supporting her, it makes all the difference in the world when someone has a family who is in their corner....even if it's supporting through "tough love," which is at times the only way to help. God bless you and your family.

I used to never like country music but my husband introduced me to it ten years ago and I love it. The songs they say so many different kind of stories!! This is coming from a Hispanic girl who grew up in the hood and only listened to rap, mexican and sometimes rock. Now, I live in a beautiful country town here in KY. Coming from L.A to here was life changing but more I fell in love with the music, the place and it's southern hospitality.

I gotta comment again. I love this song. To me this is a conversation he is having with this girl after she's died. The way you would when you visit a grave. She's at peace now and he feels he can share things with her that he couldn't while she was living. And by having this conversation and sharing these things like how it was watching her hurt herself and seeing her being in pain for her whole life, which was also painful for him, he is able to get closure and heal himself by talking it out with her. I love it. It's so intimate.

I’d never heard of this artist, but this is the kind of universal pain everyone can identify with. The music was simple, and I’m not sure I love it, but it was really just a setting for the lyrics, which are masterful. Thanks for doing this one. I’m going to look for more of his work to see what kind of range of music they can make.

Sad, but good song. Great review guys. I would have never heard the song otherwise.

These guys along with Cody Jinks and Tyler Childers are more “Texas Country” and aren’t Main stream Country. There are a lot of Country fans who haven’t even heard of these guys. They are all Amazing though. Ive become addicted to the Texas Country scene in the last few years. There are some amazing singers and some great talent hiding out there that isn’t “main stream” or “discovered” I guess you would say. When I first started watching ya’lls videos (and I have been binge watching them the last few days lol) I was hoping I would eventually find some Cody Jinks/Tyler Childers or something like it on there.
