They are a legit jam band. Most of their songs aren’t slow acoustic. Check out some of their more upbeat songs. Or if you want that wailing electric “Virginia” is a good one. A lot of southern rock influences.
@@SlashxBurnCall me the breeze is actually a JJ Cale song one of two Skynyrd Covered. The other was a Jimmy Rodger’s song called T for Texas T for Tennessee. All their other songs are original Lynyrd Skynyrd songs.
FINALLY! Been waiting for the day you cover Whiskey Myers! This song hits deep for a lot of people, me included. If you have a chance to see them live, DO IT! They rock! Thanks Michael!
I had started guitar lessons about two-three years ago and then I quit playing because I was frustrated with myself and the lack of progress I would make, and I had an instructor named Randy he was the highlight of every week for me but sadly when I went into the guitar shop where I took lessons about two years later I found he had passed away, and watching these videos gives me more inspiration to grab my guitar and play and getting better for Randy cause I know he’d want me too ❤
Whiskey Myers rock, i was lucky to see them play in a relatively small venue and it was awesome. Felt like they played forever. When they played this song the entire vibe in the place changed really a wild experience. Should check out some of their other music.
This was the 1st video I posted on guitargate for you to react to and I saw a couple of people post it recently as well so it brought my hope back… now you need to do Stone by them
Saw them last November in Santa Barbara. Definitely one of the best live bands out there right now. Only $20 a ticket too. Definitely recommend checking out their discography for its very diverse
I feel like the concurrent harmonica and lead guitar adds a purposeful dissonance at that point in the song. It reflects the contradiction and chaos of the subject’s life. “I pray for your life/as it slowly takes you to your death…laughing through the tears/as you slowly slip away”. A violent and unpleasant clash of life and death augmented by the discordant music. I wonder if the studio version is recorded that way too. I have actually only heard a haunting and beautiful cover of this song by Laurah Louisa here on UA-cam. Brilliant song; thanks for unpacking it for us all.
This channel is amazing as is guitar gate itself..... But there's been a lot of really deep music on here and music heals wounds and makes us but feel alone..... Thank you to everyone they brings this music to us and thank you to Michael and the mods for giving us a place to go to..... Much love to all
I am not sure how I came across this video, but I did. I’ve never looked up taking guitar lessons or anything regarding the guitar. I’ve always wanted to learn how to play, but never have. I saw that it mentioned whiskey Myers and something about your reaction to it. I also never knew who Whiskey Myers was, and a few years back without any intention I accidentally ran into them. I was up in Boston and went to a little show that they had at a hole in the wall venue just on a random night when I had nothing to do and took a chance not knowing anything about the band or the music. I became a fan of the music from that moment on. So now a few laters here I am and I watch your video to see what this reaction was about and when I didn’t notice anything at first I thought well maybe I was just hopeful. But then there it was at the end of your video of the message that you gave. I have two brothers and sister and then me being the one on the other side feeling the pain and hurting for them as I lost my sister a few years back to addiction and then a few years later my brother. I have one brother left who is need of great help. There is so much to the story I could share. So your message really struck a chord with me and how it so truly feels. I can’t emphasize that feeling enough.
Michael man you are deep with your "final thoughts" after some of these songs. Well done keeping us guitar players in mind with the breakdown, but also making sure to touch on the subject of the song. It makes me listen to lyrics a lot more carefully and appreciate music on many different levels rather than just a killer guitar solo or riff.
I think ( and clearly I could be way off) when he says he sees her through a broken window it's acknowledgment of her brokenness but follows it with a different point of view indicating he sees the beautiful person and potential she has and it eats him inside he's unable to make her see herself the way he sees her , he's unable to save her from her demons . But if only she loved herself the way he loved her. Just my take
Broken window refers to smoking crack it’s a term used on poor neighborhoods, so I can see why it’s called broken window serenade, it’s dedicated to someone suffering from drug addiction
Absolutely first thing i thought, too. I have heard Whisky Myers before but never really listened yet. But definitely sounds like Drive By Truckers Edit: a little Cross Canadian Ragweed sound too
Wish I understood music theory better. Made an attempt to learn the wheel of 5ths a couple of years ago. Burnt out too soon, before I could fully grasp it.
There’s this young lady with a pretty unknown UA-cam channel named Laurah Louisa that covers this song and honestly and this is ultra rare I actually like her cover better than the original check it out her voice is amazing and so soothing to my ears I listen to it all the time. Tell her Ketobeast sent ya!!
I have a piece for you to look into. Completely outside of anything I've seen you do, put it on your channel or check it out in private the choice is yours. I guarantee this will move you. Please don't blow this off. The song , if you want to call it that, is "Hi Ren" by the artist Ren. With your love of how music can move someone, change attitudes, open eyes, and even unite people, I feel this is a MUST SEE for you. Keep up the good work man, and I hope to see that you took me up on this suggestion. 🇺🇸
If you're looking for another beautiful song written from the perspective an addict's loved one, I highly recommend O' Sister by City and Colour. As a former addict myself, I have a hard time making it through the entire song. I can deal with the pain and sorrow I've brought upon myself, but thinking about what it has done to my friends and family is rough.
As an addict that's been clean from a 15 year opiate addiction for 12 years it took me a long time to learn that my cycle of self destruction was largely because of my inability to forgive myself for my shortcomings or accept forgiveness from the people who loved me. I don't know if everyone else has this issue but learning true forgiveness was a turning point in my life . My heart truly hurts for anyone who is suffering and I pray they learn to know that they are loved .
This is why you should never record an acoustic guitar without an external mic focused on the 12th fret.....get the real sound otherwise you get this electric processing sound.
This is why Gibsons are so popular live. They can sound sorta dead at home, but have fewer overtones. My Mahogany bodied Taylor does well with this, but there’s a certain overtone like this that pops up in the upper midrange if I throw on certain pedals.
The reason is that it's not his guitar. The night before this recording, the bands trailer with all their instruments got stolen. So he had to use a random guitar.
@@MichaelJones-ie4uf agree I like to plug in and mic up along with that depends on what you are doing I cover this song myself. I gotta pretty cool version with my five piece band
They probably wanted you to "REACT" to the "Album Version" -- there's a lot more going on in that version with the harp and bass. But it's still the same tune. Agree on other comments - they are GREAT LIVE - and have way more upbeat songs. This is their most commercial.

The title of this song is fantastic. She's broken and much like a window he knows it's beyond repair
