The APX/APX-A1 has to be the most underrated semi-auto polymer 9 out there. If they cost $750 and said HK on them, people would be tripping over each other to get one! I own an obscene number of polymer 9s, and I would put APX reliability and durability against any of them. These things simply don't f- up!! I am not kidding, they will feed anything, no matter how nasty. No, they don't have a 3 lbs trigger, but once they break in (around 500 rounds) they offer a smooth 5 lbs trigger, which in weight and feel is perfect for this gun's intended purpose. Let's face it; this is a FIGHTING PISTOL. It's a damn good one. I have an old APX with adjustable sights. I have the newer APX-A1 with the stock sights, and I have the APX-A1 Tactical that was purchased at a street price of $499 with a $100 rebate! It's nuts! Perhaps more nuts, at least on the surface; I have a Steiner MPS optic and a Steiner TOR Fusion laser/light combo on my Beretta APX-A1 Tactical. Why not? Overall it's a fantastic combination! I suppose I could hang $1K worth of Steiner on a Gen5 Glock 17 and gain nothing, have far worse ergonomics, no better reliability, an uncomfortable trigger, plastic sights that are too short, an unthreaded barrel, and lower capacity for more money. Additionally, it's not like like many polymers now where the review is like: "This (whatever) is great! Never mind that it's made in Bulgaristanigradkia; they make great weapons!" This is an Italian-designed and Italian-made Beretta! These have passed reliability testing in adverse conditions that a great many other guns have not.
I bought the APX A1 in June and bought the APX A1 Tactical when I saw that Beretta has a $100 rebate. My first tactical pistol so I had to get use to the elevated sight. Very nice pistol and being able to switch the magazines between the A1 and the tactical is a nice feature.
I wish Beretta made the Tactical last year. I'm one that bought an A1 and made it a Tactical adding sights, threaded barrel, 21rd mags, etc. I could have saved hundreds. 😅 These APXs are great. Overengineered, good ergos, reliable striker. The trigger is good but slightly spongy. It's better than stock Glock, but no Walther PDP. A steal for its price.
Everybody and their Mom wants a red dot on their pistol now. Am I the only one who still prefers plain ol tritium night sights? :) Enjoyed the review @sootch00. I find the Beretta APX series to be extremally underrated no matter which model you choose. I do like the looks of the new slide serrations for sure.

This is a fantastic review of a more-than-fantastic pistol. M&P's and Glocks have been my go-to pistols for a long time, but there's definitely room for the APX line to join the mix.
Cool pistol, but i will always love the Beretta 92FS, i am the kind of guy who prefers the classics. Another great vídeo Sootch, keep fighting for your country, because the mine, is lost forever.
I have the original APX and to make the slide grip better I cut some self adhesive nonskid to fit between the protrusions. It works awesome and looks like it was made that way.
The second oldest gun company is Klett, they have been making guns in Germany since 1578. According to Wikipedia. I find it impressive since they have been subjected to both the Versailles Treaty (most guns were banned in Germany) and WWII.
Love your videos sootch. Threw me off a bit when you kept saying the a1 is the predecessor of the 0 when you meant successor but your videos have always been excellent and this is no different.
Funny, just yesterday I was watching your review of the PX4 because I caught an interest in it since I wanted to see its reviews (I couldn't find many reviews of the .45 ACP version)
Thank you for this detailed video... Very in depth and professional done. I just got my gun license and permit. I'm looking for a first gun to buy and this one is at the top of my list.....
I'm really curious how the 21rd mags performed during this review. I've heard a lot of reports that the spring is the same as the 17rd mags thus causing a lot of issues with the slide lock not engaging on the last round. Not something you want happening with a tactical combat side-arm.
I bought some 21 round mags for my OLD APX years ago and I have the new 21 rounders that came with my A1-Tactical. They're the same mag. The big thing is to break this pistol in. 500 rounds and things will always lock as they should, the trigger improves (a lot), and if you're like me, trigger time is a Key to Confidence with a particular gun. I have 3 full-size APX pistols and I've found them to be MORE reliable than some stuff at twice the price, I base this on owning these items and shooting thousands of dollars worth of ammunition through them. I have concluded that what separates the APX line from the higher dollar stuff is out-of-the-box-smoothness and refinement. 500 rounds (and never run your pistol dry) will take care of that.
I love how he shot Fiocchi ammo in the Beretta. Italian made ammunition in an Italian made gun! It pairs together like linguni and a fine Italian wine! 🍝🍷💞

@@jamescampbell4334 Very nice! I have to admit, I'm really kicking myself for not getting a P99 sooner. I'm in love with the Anti-Stress DA/SA trigger and the ergos. The P99 has the shortest reset of any handgun I own. If my finger so much as twitches at the back wall, it resets. Almost impossible to discern any amount of forward travel between the initial break and the reset point. Beretta is my favorite manufacturer, but I have to say, I am very pleased with my decision. When compared to similar polymer striker pistols like the PPQ/PDP and VP9, I just don't see anything unique about the APX other than the significantly lower price.
You don’t need a punch to push the take down button. You have to pull the slide back a little bit then push the take down release button. It’s way easier that way.
It is a good value option but the quality is definitely budget level. It is not even close to the 92 series. Rust in serial numbers, hex screws for optics plate, poorly placed screws that aren’t always angled straight up and down, user manual missed out a key step for take down in the text portion but you can find it if you pay attention to the pictures, the awkward magazine catch slot on magazines makes it difficult to use it with Uplula mag loaders and you can see mags scraping the loader.

Great review as always. Thank you. One of my daughters who is preparing to carry soon bought the compact. It feels fantastic. The biggest negative we found was that I was unable to disassemble it before shooting. So no serious cleaning. We had 7 malfunctions in 120 rounds first trip out. I attribute this to being heavily gunked up from shipping oils. 70 rounds of Remington factory ball ammo and 50 rounds of Fenix reman ball ammo. It malfunctioned with both but mostly with the first 70 Remington. I finally got this thing disassembled and cleaned & lubed. Has anyone else had issues with feeding and extraction problems in APX lines? Scotch did this Tactical have any issues at all ? Thank you. I opted not to get a full size at this point and my son was going to get the tactical but we are holding off now
I have the APX zero. I don’t think I cleaned it before the first rounds, but now I’m not sure. I’ve run several hundred rounds of various grains of range and defensive ammo through it and haven’t had a single failure. My only ding is that it shoots a touch low. Not enough to matter defensively so I haven’t changed the sights, but it does bug me a bit.
@@stevene6482 Appreciate the input. We ran 115 rounds of S&B 124 & Blazer brass 124 recently with 3 shooters. We didn't have a glitch. We all are very pleased with this gun.
A "predecessor" is something that "precedes," or comes before something, so the APX A1 is NOT a "predecessor" to the original APX- the APX Zero is the predecessor to the A1. The APX A1 is a "successor."

Hope youre doing alright!!
Enjoyed the video. Not sure id give up my carry gun for it but would give up one of my backups. (Shadow Systems ❤)
A "predecessor" is something that "precedes," or comes before something, so the APX A1 is NOT a "predecessor" to the original APX- the APX Zero is the predecessor to the A1. The APX A1 is a "successor."
😮
looks like a nice gun although I noticed he wasn’t really hitting the target so for someone else like me i’d probably be way off with it.
How did you get your hands on that. Mt things my packages and other things are missing. You're playing games with the wrong person.
Where's it at bro?
18 or 20 Volt?
It’s the successor, not the predecessor
So what adapter Plate is required for Optics mount? And does APX A1 Compact Tactical take the same optics adapter plate?
Make it in 10mm!!!😊
2026 will be their 500 anniversary. There has been rumors for a llimted time only Beretta is coming out with a 1911 in 2026 but won’t last long . They will announce ba big surprise in mid 2025 about what will come out for their 500!year anniversary.
Have you ever given a completely unbiased and honest or negative review of any firearm?
It seems like every gun you review is perfect 😂
No, it’s just show and tell.
