    I've been cycling most days for several years. Last year I decided to try a gym workout for my ongoing back pain, and recently I installed a swim spa, which I absolutely love, and I exercise at least twice daily in the water. It's only the last few months I've had moderate to severe hip pain which can keep me awake all night, but I didn't relate this to increase in exercise routine. So now I will be following advice to try to reduce my symptoms. Thank you again.

    I walk a lot and quite active. Walked home from work on Friday and felt fine. It wasn't until later that evening that I started to get a pain in my outer right hip. I do confess, I was stationary at my desk pretty much throughout the day. Not sure if this is what I'm currently suffering from, but I get temporary pain relief from kneeling at the side of my bed.

    I am 35 years old female with hip pain, in addition to other health conditions. It hurts when I lay down and walk (my hip bone, both sides). I was denied surgery for my back problems which I believe caused the hip injury to get worse. I was also denied ‘free and public to every Ontario citizen’ physiotherapy by a medical clinic in Mississauga, ON near Trillium Hospital because I live on $700 a month disability (Govt stole my shelter allowance) and cannot afford $200 a month for basic private insurance. It’s supposed to be public care in Canada but I only get some prescriptions covered.

    thanks very much for this series. i've had bursitis for over a decade, steroid injections are the only thing that helps me enough to be able to sleep. i did physical therapy for 6 months it helped a lot but as soon as I stopped I started getting shooting pains in the butt! i thought it was the bursitis so I went back for another injection but it didn't help! now I'm thinking it's piriformis or gtps or maybe something to do with my lumbar spine - it's so hard to figure out so thank you for the education! getting old stinks but it's better than the alternative!

      It's a bit difficult to give a sensible answer for what may apply to your without having an in depth conversation, but a hysterectomy can potentially place you into the menopause and that can increase risk of getting gluteal tendinopathy and other joint issues.

    @SportsInjuryPhysio I think you are the best so . . . I have a symptom of not being able to lift my left leg up from a sitting upright position after hiking. It goes away in time (usually by the end of the day but not always) but it happens again after another long hike. Sometimes it's bad enough that the pain is serious just trying to use the clutch driving my Jeep or lifting my leg to get out of the car. I have to grab my knee and assist getting my leg up. This is fairly recent. I can hike 30 miles backpacking and don't notice it but I also don't drive while backpacking. I can lift it just fine from a standing position. Any ideas?

    • @SportsInjuryPhysio
      @SportsInjuryPhysio  Рік тому +1

      Interesting - so the big difference between lifting your hip in sitting vs standing is that your hip is already in a flexed position when you sit - so it you lift it then, it is more likely to compress or pinch the structures in the front of the goin and if they are irritated they may hurt. It sounds as if you may have a iliopsoas (hip flexor) tendinopathy or bursitis but please don't trust this diagnosis because we have obviously not assessed you.

      @@SportsInjuryPhysio Great, Thanks, I will save this link for the next issue. Right now it's already almost completely healed after 10 days (two days off from hiking, one day on and then two days off again and then 30 minutes using an elliptical and some leg pressed and extensions at the gym and then two more days off with just walking on the sidewalk. It's tough getting old but I'm glad I still heel in a normal amount of time. Trying to train like a 20 year old at 68 but I keep setting new personal records. My last 20 miles hike was the fastest average pace so far and at a lower average heart rate.

    • @SportsInjuryPhysio
      @SportsInjuryPhysio  Рік тому +3

      It may be that you did something yesterday that irritated the soft tissue on the outer hip (even just sitting for too long could irritate it sometimes) and then you slept on it in a position that annoyed it further but as soon as you moved off that position it was happy and started calming down again.

    Greater Trocanta!!! I have every single one of these symptoms you described. I am a 73-year-old female in good health. Up until about a year ago I could walk 2-3 miles No problem. But now, I have pain on the outside of my thigh past my knee to my ankle, down my butt and in my groin. Walking is so painful, especially uphill. I’ve had to stop walking. 😢When I get up from a sitting position, I am crippled over for the first few steps. As far as I know from my last x-rays, I don’t have arthritis in my hips. So this is exactly what I have. I don’t imagine surgery will take care of the problems, so what does one do?

    Good explanation. Recently I have lifestyle changes. More sitting job, with abruptly changing sport activity and other problems with sleeping pattern (my littele daughter came to our bed, and left no space for me). So, Nowadays I realised a pain in the bottom of my buttock, It has gonne with a day, but a week later, after the night of a harder leg training (1 leg squats), -after 3 weeks of holydays- I feell a pain in my right, outer hip. It was a bit hot. I even cannot sleep that night. Next day a strech my buttock and my ITB band. It was a better, but the pain remained. Even if I press those area a bit I feel the pain. I 48, I is it can be some hip joint problem or ITB tissue? May I get an MR?

    • @SportsInjuryPhysio
      @SportsInjuryPhysio  Рік тому +1

      It's unlikely that it is a hip joint problem because it usually produces pain in your groin when your joint is injured. It is more likely a soft tissue injury like gluteal tendinopathy.
