16 Tips to Save $100,000 by the Time You're 30

  • How can you save $100,000 by the time you turn 30? Hmm…Be a genius and get a super well-paid job? Find some rich relatives to financially support you? Win the lottery? Good luck with that. Or maybe first try these tips that work nearly 100% of the time.
Unless you have a good financial base, consider using public transit or riding a bike. Some big-wig leaders do it! Get acquainted with your inner chef, and get to know your stove a little better. And, guys, forget the phrase “Because I can afford it!“ Someone who makes less money but is wiser about it has better chances of saving $100,000 than someone who can't stop shopping to impress.

    SUMMARY:
    - Set up automatic transfers into your savings account. If you save 5 - 10% of your income this way, which doesn’t sound like a lot, you’ll be surprised to see how much it’ll turn into after a few years.
    - There’s really no need to go out and buy a bunch of new clothes just because a certain shade of blue is “in” this season.
    - If you’re not using all those things you signed up for months ago, then just cancel them!
    - Grab a blanket or open a window before you depend so heavily on the heater or AC to keep you comfy.
    - It's a good idea to keep all electrical appliances unplugged when you’re not using them.
    - LED bulbs cost more than old-school incandescent ones, but the benefits outweigh the initial price hike.
    - You'll be surprised to know that up to 50% of the electricity is wasted when you choose the wrong size pots and pans.
    - A person can waste 5 to 8 gallons of water while brushing their teeth or shaving. The solution: turn the faucet or shower off if you’re not using the water at that moment!
    - Believe it or not, a huge powerful dishwasher actually uses less water than a person who hand-washes the dishes.
    - In fact, if you’re eating “cheap” at fast food restaurants and not fancy sit-in places, you’re still spending way more than you would if you just cook at home.
    - Buying a car is one thing and paying for its maintenance is another. Unless you have a good financial base, consider using public transit or riding a bike.
    - Unless you have to take out a mortgage, any real estate pays itself off pretty quickly, whether you live in it or rent it out to someone else.
    - Don't be afraid to try something new while you're still young - like a new job, for example. There’s a chance that you’ll discover a talent for something that’ll bring you much more money and fun than your old job.
    - While this used to be a running joke about people who were too unsuccessful to make it on their own, more and more young adults are happy to live with their parents these days!

Excellent tips! Here are my favorites:
    1. Identify whether it’s a “want” or a “need”. Be honest. If it’s only a “want”, give it 30 days.
    2. Borrow from your local library instead of buying that book, magazine, album, movie, etc.
    3. Stop bad, costly habits, like smoking, drinking, and eating junk food. You’ll not only save today, you’ll save much more as you age: no expensive pills, operations, health care...
    4. Eat leftovers. Cook and store basic foods (like beans, pasta, rice, sauces, soups, chicken fingers, meatballs and burgers) for meals during the week. I put cooked food in freezer bags and squish flat to freeze. Then I just break off what I need for that meal.
    5. Make meat an accompaniment rather than the main part of a meal. Check out foreign culture cookbooks (in the library) for ideas. Or substitute meat with other sources of protein (like beans, legumes, tofu, quinoa).
    6. Try washing clothes in this very effective and dirt cheap powder: mix one cup OxyClean powder with one cup washing soda (not baking soda) in a covered container. Use one Tablespoon of the mix per load. Use cold water.
    7. Take snacks and beverages (filtered water in thermoses) with you to avoid having to stop at expensive convenience stores when you’re out.
    8. Spend money on experiences rather than things. Go to concerts, plays, museums, have a picnic in the park, go on nature hikes, play cards or board games with family and friends.
    9. Give yourself a realistic goal, like buying a home, saving for your kids’ college, your retirement. Then ask if what you want to buy (notice I said “want, not “need”?) is worth taking away from that goal.
    10. Strike a balance between saving for tomorrow and enjoying today. Be creative with saving money without sacrificing all the joy of living.

    I already do tip 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 10 12, 16 and I’ve successfully saved more than an average 21 y/o would have in their bank account 😊
    .
I’ll also add the following tips
--> avoid being friends with people who pressure you to purchase things you don’t need or friends you feel the need to impress with materialistic things to stay friends with them.
--> Purchase food in bulk and reduce your visit to restaurants or junk food buying
--> Avoid impulse spending and purchase in bulk
--> purchase items based on beauty not based on brand name.
--> Have a purposeful spending habit and not unnecessary spending.
--> Stay quiet about how much you have to prevent people coming to beg or borrow money from you which they likely would never repay.

    1. Dishwasher actually uses more money to run, rather than hand washing. Not considering the cost of the dishwasher unit itself.
    2. Never put objects in a tank of a toilet. Modern toilets are already low gpf, lowering the gpf even further will result in clogged sewers and costly repairs.

3:56 this can be true, but it takes much more power once you plug it back in because it has to circulators way back into the socket so if it’s something that you don’t use but once a day that’s fine but if it’s like your cell phone every hour so you’re plugging in an out that’s going to draw more energy because it’s going to pull more

Start the day after tomorrow to save money. Be conservative (buy what you need, think seriously about what you want), but not stingy (life is to enjoy). That way, when you reach 60 or so, you will have enjoyed the previous thirty years, but not stressed over your retirement years.

I’m glad I have come across this video as most people around me don’t understand these saving tips. I’m 25 yo & I have got $82k savings + $15k worth car.
Now if anyone would see me, they won’t think I have this much money & that’s cuz I don’t show off on materialistic things. I save up on little things. I still have a very comfortable life but I just don’t chase after every new thing or anything that I don’t need to survive. I’m grateful that I got these traits 😌🙂
I came across this line few years ago that I always kept in my mind :
“ Don’t go broke in order to look rich”

1 tip. Travel to a particular suburb where by a miracle all hairdresser salons are 1/4 cheaper Than everywhere else for some reason.
2 Go to supermarket and to a nice local park and cook on the gas cooker which are for free. In Australia anyway.
3 buy a car that has a nice interior for $200 that needs a new Engine putin it. Buy the engine for $3-8000 get it put in for $1 500 and you have a new car!

Many of these, you have to sacrifice to save, I don't believe in that. If I look back at the past 25-30 years, pirating movies, TV shows, music, video games, etc... that saved me a small fortune. I got into LED bulbs in 2011/2012, yup, great tip. If you have an office job, fight for the right to work from home. I have no transportation costs, less laundry costs, no daily coffees, no lunch costs, no temptation to buy stuff you are in the business/retail district, etc. While I haven't saved $100,000, I have had more money to buy my tech toys. Actually technically I have saved several hundred thousand dollars. I bought my house for $175,000 in 2000, today it is worth $500-700K, but good luck doing that today.

    11. Dishwasher
    Very common talked about.
    But I dont really agree.
Yes you maybe save much water and water maybe cost a lot.
But in Sweden its pretty cheap.
Still many here too talk about this saving.
But a dishwasher costs money to buy. My recent one did cost about 1000$ and still it did last only 6 years. 13$ per month just the machine. Okey there is cheaper machines and machines that last longer time before they broke, but still a thing to think.
The washing powder you use in the machine also costs more per dish than handdish soap.

I also only did take the machine cost.
You maybe need somebody who install it to you and all "washing powder".
Ofcourse this is also needed in hand dishing but its much more cheaper. Not sure about other countries but in Sweden its much cheaper....

Suggest "Journey" by ThatGameCompany for a game that is both relaxing and playable over and over. I've been taking a Journey almost daily for 4 years after work to wind-down.

Well I love adventure games with riddles and tasks which are often games you could only play once - especially if you are me, and don't loose interest in a story if the ending is known 🙈

If you can’t finance an investment property, put $500+ a month into an IRA with compounded interest at 12-16%. Also start a business and grow that. Find something to sell that’s profitable, and hire other people to sell it for you on a commission base.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree on the washing dishes. He didn't put in the factors that it used electisty, the heating, and time too. With washing by hand you get them done about 85% faster and with better results too, and with te heating it gets temps up really hot so that's kinda a waste when you don't need it that hot.. You just gotta clean them good. (Don't hate for my opinion)

5:25 I save my water after my 2 minute cold showers to flush the toilet, water the plants and water the garden. I also collect rainwater. It’s free water, which means - free money. (:

3:58 this was made in 2019 and people still say led cost more than older bulbs? my local diy store has their own brand led bulbs 9W for 99cent! and even has Philips bulbs for 1.99euro
LED is now the future! you can have a 5W led bulb active all day and still cost you almost nothing! why?
The reason is your electricity provider charges you an amount of cents every 1kilowatt, and one 5watt led bulb consumes 5watt every 1 hour so in 24hours that's 24x5 = 120watt
Of course that's one bulb working 24 hours, if you have lets say 10 bulbs rated at 5watt each and they work for 8 hours daily then that's 10x5 = 50 and then 50x8 = 300watt is still is cheap!
BUY LED PEOPLE IT'S THE FUTURE!
