Perhaps one of (if not) the best scene of this movie. I remember watching this movie loads of times as a kid and remembering how fun and exciting this scene is. Never gets old 👌🏽💯
Only Steve Martin and Bill Murray can play utterly despicable characters with absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever that we still love completely lol
I've watched this about 20 times since discovering it yesterday and only now did I notice that the patient sings "I am your patient" at 1:35 after Martin sings "I am your dentist."
Watched this video on loop after getting my wisdom teeth removed a few weeks ago, and it genuinely cheered me up to the point that I didn't even need any pain pills. Not even an Ibuprofen, much less the Percocet my dentist prescribed me. Steve Martin is such a great performer who brings so much energy to every scene he's in, he's so much fun to watch!
I’m so glad this movie played in to how camp this song was, plus being directed by Frank Oz and hiring a bunch of comedians. So many movie musicals now take everything so seriously.
I watched this for the first time with my mom. I knew the basis of the musical through the actual show, but she never told me who was gonna play the dentist. When it cut to Steve Martin, I DIED LAUGHING
Oh my.... THIS is by far the funniest thing I've seen in a long time!!!!! I remember that I used to love that song cause of the 50ies vibes, but now I realize how hilarious it is!! I watch it over and over and just can't stop laughing! Thanks for posting this, man...:D
This is still so great and hysterical after all these years. Steve Martin Is a legend. One of my favorite rolls of his. And when Bill Murray comes in and is all getting off on the pain. Lmao.
Omg. So I had to have oral surgery 2 weeks ago, the oral surgeon heard this song playing on my phone as I was in the waiting room showing to the staff. He literally did this whole song, word for word, and didn't miss a lick when he came into my room. I dang near died. If he had his staff be the back up singers I definitely woulda.
I would never had guessed that the dental nurse at 0:45 and 1:45 was British-Australian actress Miriam Margolyes, had she not recently suggested how Steve Martin's "talent for causing things pain" wasn't quite staged as intended, contrary to what Martin and director Frank Oz have attested.
This brings me back. Oh, the nostalgia. My brother and I watched this movie numerous times back in the ‘80s when we were kids. We loved singing along to this song the most.
There are so many amazing parts in this, but the one that makes me laugh every time is the intense look he gets on his face just before slamming the door into the receptionist’s face and sending her flying 😂 Like you can tell he was listening for her to get close enough so he could time it PERFECTLY. So damn good.
I remember seeing this when I was young, I never realised Steve Martin played this role. At the time I didn't know who Steve Martin is and I remembered this song well (because it's super catchy and memorable) but I'd never revisited when I was older so never connected it to the dad from Cheaper by the Dozen. (I know Steve Martin has been in loads of other things, but when I picture his face, Cheaper by the Dozen is the first one that springs to mind.)
i actually had a dentist dressed as Elvis Presley, i thought it was funny cause his whole office is Elvis past and present. now i see where he got it from.....lol
Trivia: 2 of the female background singers Tisha Campbell and Tichina Arnold later got roles in the black sitcom 'Martin' playing Gina Waters-Payne and Pamela "Pam" James respectively!!!
And this is one of many reasons why we don't need a Little Shop of Horrors remake with Taron Everyone, Scarlett Johansson and Billy Porter. Why mess with perfection?
IRONICALLY, THIS SCENE INSPIRED ME TO BECOME A DENTIST! 😂 Yes, really. I was 12 years old in '86 when this movie came out. I was busting a gut watching Steve Martin ad the sadistic Dentist. (Even when he ended up as plant food!). But this scene also sparked my interest in dentistry, and I decided I wanted to be a dentist. So, after high school in 1992, I went to college, earned by BS degree, then on to Intro to Medicine, and to Dental school. FYI: To become a dentist, one must show excellent grades, as well as have funds to pay for the schooling. But before that, a dental school applicant must be evaluated by a board staffed by practicing dentists. The applicant must show he/she has the right temperament to be a dentist. The board I mentioned is staffed by practicing dentists. These people have a deep reverence for the highly respectfull and admired profession Dentistry is. The board members must agree that a given applicant is an ideal candidate to be admitted to dental school. If they don't agree, the applicant will be turned away. Now, here I am, 20+ years in the profession.
Oh, that’s awesome! It’s interesting how things inspire us in our childhood and how we act on it. :) Congrats on becoming a dentist, btw. Hopefully you’re a different dentist than Orin, lol.
@@h.a.9880 Well, not quite I explained my desire to enter the profession, to relieve discomfort and pain patients are suffering from, to improve patients ability to chew properly (as well as speak and breathe). I told them I had a deep respect and compassion for people, and a genuine desire to end suffering. But yes, I did mention this movie scene as what first sparked my interest in Dentistry. The board members actually chuckled.
You too eh? Have you seen "I-robot"? Where the little girl that drowned was 12 and wanted to become a dentist, and Will Smith said "what 12 year old wants to become a dentist?". Well, #metoo.....though in my case it was the drawers full of shiny tools that sparked my interest, but yeah 12 years old. This year marks 30 years in my little shop of horrors 😁
I’m suffering a particular bad sickness these last few days, and I have been waking up over and over for the last hour with this song stuck in my head. I keep getting to the part where he rips off his leather jacket and then it resets in my mind
Sometimes it’s hard for me to believe that’s Steve Martin! A great singing voice, so much energy, and incredibly hilarious (but of course he’s hilarious it’s Steve Martin)
Every aspect of this movie is QUALITY. It’s excellent. The song writing is smart, hilarious and catchy. I can’t think of a modern actor that could deliver a performance like this with the energy Steve Martin does here. The backup singers add so much. It’s like they are in the movie, but not in the movie. I know it’s a cliche but Hollywood couldn’t make a movie like this today. They don’t have the acting talent or writing capability anymore.
Someone that could have approached Steve's brilliance in this role is Michael Palin. He's such a soft spoken, sweetheart of a man. But look at the scene in Terry Gilliam's Brazil, where he's torturing his own friend into a confession. - He played a sadist brilliantly and he could handle the comedic side just as naturally. Brilliant by Steve though, no doubt..
my brother and i laughed like maniacs during the bill murray scene when he is moaning and grabbing his shoulder🤣 its one of the funniest scenes ever done
According to IMDB, Tim Curry, Robin Williams, John Travolta, Gene Wilder and Micky Dolenz of The Monkees were considered for the role of Orin Scrivello DDS.
My dentist asked me why i'm afraid....i asked her: " Did u ever see the "Dentist scene" in "Little shop of horrors"? She cracked up for 2 minutes straight....lol.
The entire opening is really wonderful. Little details such as the timing of shadows passing over Martin when he "drives" beneath the traffic lights and bridge, the hypnotic choreography of the backup singers (Tisha Campbell AND Tichina Arnold!?!), and Martin's perfect motorcycle dismount...really, Frank Oz should keep taking bows for this!
That first "you'll be a dentist" is so *TRIUMPHANT.*

It's not your age. The great hollywood movie era that once was is no more. That's a fact.
1:48 I love the fact everyone opens their door when they hear the noise but then close it when they see The Dentist. 😆
"🎶Its swell though they tell me I'm maladjusted🎶" always gets me 😂
I think in an [earlier?] version, the line was: "When I start extracting those molars / you girls will be screaming like holy rollers".
It's so catchy👌
I love how they rhyme bicuspid with it lol
@@StoryMing yep! Definitely prefer this lyric though
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST PARTS
That Marquis De Sade line went WAY over my head as a kid!! And I love the girls "Love IT!" after his lines. Hilarious!
Perhaps one of (if not) the best scene of this movie. I remember watching this movie loads of times as a kid and remembering how fun and exciting this scene is. Never gets old 👌🏽💯
relatable
Only Steve Martin and Bill Murray can play utterly despicable characters with absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever that we still love completely lol
Hey, what's wrong with Murray's character, he just appreciates professionalism! 😂
2:11 when you’re late to a party but they still have triscits
Mood
Aidan Reviews I love that damn part !!! 😂😂😂
I've watched this about 20 times since discovering it yesterday and only now did I notice that the patient sings "I am your patient" at 1:35 after Martin sings "I am your dentist."
Have you seen the full movie? You gotta watch the movie. This "music video" used to air on VH1 all the time in the 80s lol
I haven't, but it's on my list now!
I've replayed this like 100 times this week. Why is this song so good.
Oh my.... THIS is by far the funniest thing I've seen in a long time!!!!! I remember that I used to love that song cause of the 50ies vibes, but now I realize how hilarious it is!! I watch it over and over and just can't stop laughing! Thanks for posting this, man...:D
Any time. xD
Go watch the movie. its full of this stuff.
the dentist appointment with bill murray is also hilarious. and totally unexpected....
ua-cam.com/video/XB7R0ZxNgC4/v-deo.html
Wait till you see Bill Murry's cameo 😂😂😂😂
This is still so great and hysterical after all these years. Steve Martin Is a legend. One of my favorite rolls of his. And when Bill Murray comes in and is all getting off on the pain. Lmao.
Omg. So I had to have oral surgery 2 weeks ago, the oral surgeon heard this song playing on my phone as I was in the waiting room showing to the staff. He literally did this whole song, word for word, and didn't miss a lick when he came into my room. I dang near died. If he had his staff be the back up singers I definitely woulda.
Proof that sadistic cruelty and evil doesn't need to be downbeat.
2:04 “oh mawmuh” 😂. I love Steve Martin SO much. This part is actually really hard to execute and he was marvelous in it. The camp is just perfection.
1:30 that's such a great shot from inside the mouth. Tarantino couldn't have played it better, hes even singing along.
I love his dancing at 2:12 it's so funny never fails to make me laugh xxx
Going to the dentist this morning. This always makes me feel better.
Steve Martin totally NAILED this.
This brings me back. Oh, the nostalgia. My brother and I watched this movie numerous times back in the ‘80s when we were kids. We loved singing along to this song the most.
I can imagine the only other person who could pull this off would be Jim Carrey. Steve Martin was in Genius Mode here
2:11: those moves tho xD
SKYDORMER me trying to dance
the fact that someone thought to rhyme bicuspid with maladjusted will always be so impressive to me
There are so many amazing parts in this, but the one that makes me laugh every time is the intense look he gets on his face just before slamming the door into the receptionist’s face and sending her flying 😂 Like you can tell he was listening for her to get close enough so he could time it PERFECTLY. So damn good.
1:29 Best pick-up line ever
Pam and Gina were two of the three vocalists.
Robert Lopresti we know 😌
The other singer Michelle Weeks
I remember seeing this when I was young, I never realised Steve Martin played this role. At the time I didn't know who Steve Martin is and I remembered this song well (because it's super catchy and memorable) but I'd never revisited when I was older so never connected it to the dad from Cheaper by the Dozen.
(I know Steve Martin has been in loads of other things, but when I picture his face, Cheaper by the Dozen is the first one that springs to mind.)
So pleased to hear commentary by Frank Oz that Steve Martin didn't really want to hurt the boy 0:58 :)
He must be the 1 out of 10 dentists that don't recommend a toothpaste
This is the best description of him
LOL
Priceless.
What a superb ensemble they put together for this movie. Talent, quality & class to the extreme :))))
That elvis-lipped ‘maladjusted ’kills me every time.
i actually had a dentist dressed as Elvis Presley, i thought it was funny cause his whole office is Elvis past and present. now i see where he got it from.....lol
Oh wow hahahah
Not a huge Elvis fan, but that does sound like a fun office to get a cleaning! Where is this office located?
Was your dentist an Elvis fan by any chance?
This part is my absolute favorite part of the movie. Steve Martin was fantastic in this role!
O H M O M M A that is my favorite part of this
Trivia: 2 of the female background singers Tisha Campbell and Tichina Arnold later got roles in the black sitcom 'Martin' playing Gina Waters-Payne and Pamela "Pam" James respectively!!!
2:09 CAUSE IMMA DENTIST!
"I thrill when I drill a biscuspid, it's swell though they tell me I'm maladjusted"
Is such an underrated line
And this is one of many reasons why we don't need a Little Shop of Horrors remake with Taron Everyone, Scarlett Johansson and Billy Porter. Why mess with perfection?
Actually this movie is a remake as well
@@thehorrorzone9739 no, it's an adaptation. Of an adaptation. Little shop was a b horror before it was a musical
Tbh Jim carry as the dentist would actually good to see lmao idk seems like the kind of stuff he would do
Scarlett isn't a good thing to describe beauty it is mentioned during danmtiom
Scarlett Is a artic wolf it will eat your sheep
I brush my teeth religiously bc of this bit. My dentist is like, do you have another dentist? I tell him not really.
IRONICALLY, THIS SCENE INSPIRED ME TO BECOME A DENTIST! 😂
Yes, really.
Congrats on becoming a dentist, btw. Hopefully you’re a different dentist than Orin, lol.
"So, Mr. Tombrock, why do you want to be a dentist?"
-"Funny you should ask..." [breaks out into song from Little Shop of Horrors]
@@h.a.9880
Well, not quite
I explained my desire to enter the profession, to relieve discomfort and pain patients are suffering from, to improve patients ability to chew properly (as well as speak and breathe).
I told them I had a deep respect and compassion for people, and a genuine desire to end suffering.
But yes, I did mention this movie scene as what first sparked my interest in Dentistry.
The board members actually chuckled.
Well I hope you don’t enjoy causing pain lol
I keep getting to the part where he rips off his leather jacket and then it resets in my mind
at 1:50 is absolute ear candy! The singing is wonderful in this movie.
2:05 oh momma 🤣🤣
Obama!
Sometimes it’s hard for me to believe that’s Steve Martin! A great singing voice, so much energy, and incredibly hilarious (but of course he’s hilarious it’s Steve Martin)
He’s also a virtuoso banjo player as well!
@caitlyncarvalho7637 I agree!
This is the funniest casting in the movie
1:01 ouch😅💀
1:45 that moment that she knew she f**cked up
2:15 yeated on da chair 😂
According to IMDB, Tim Curry, Robin Williams, John Travolta, Gene Wilder and Micky Dolenz of The Monkees were considered for the role of Orin Scrivello DDS.
Very interesting fact, thanks for adding.
I would've loved to have heard Micky Dolenz of The Monkees sing this song but oh well.
My dentist asked me why i'm afraid....i asked her: " Did u ever see the "Dentist scene" in "Little shop of horrors"? She cracked up for 2 minutes straight....lol.
You sure she wasn't on the ol nitrous? 😂
Have you ever seen "Marathon Man"?
My step brother played him in our high-school musical of Little Shop of Horrors it was so good!
1:01 I was pleased to hear on commentary by Frank Oz that Steve Martin didn't really want to hurt this boy! :)
