This video is dedicated to all the weekend warriors out there - the musicians who fuel up the van, hit the road, and bring the rock 'n' roll spirit to local watering holes, VFW halls, and sometimes even open for those legendary rock bands we all grew up idolizing. 🌟
Why do we do it? What drives us to sacrifice our weekends, endure the long drives, late nights, and the grind of setting up and tearing down gear? In this video, I dive into the passion, dedication, and pure love for music that keeps us coming back for more.
Whether you're playing to a packed house or just a few die-hard fans, it's the thrill of the performance, the camaraderie with your bandmates, and the joy of connecting with the audience that makes it all worthwhile. 🎶
Join me as I salute the weekend warriors and explore the reasons why we keep chasing the dream, one riff at a time. Rock on! 🤘

Salute!!!🫡
You got it right man, and nobody can stop us!...shine on!
Shine on brother!
Thanks Bad Brad! Just playing is great! 👏👏👏👏🎸🔊💙💜🤍❤
Yes it is. Salute!
Every time I play my guitar it amazes me the sound that it makes. I am hooked on that sound. I spent thousands for that. Never made a nickel playing a guitar. I am looking forward to putting on my guitar later today when I have time to go for a sonic retreat.
Man crank that thing up!
I've been doing it since the late 60's.Played every style,in all sorts of bands(except glam, big hair bands). You learn a lot about people, good and bad.And apply it to every day life. Now I'm still playing in my 70's .Still having fun, supplementing my S.S.I .with what I make now and playing in a classic rock band with songs I've played a long time ago,go figure. What goes round comes around.
That is awesome. Love to hear it. Salute
I knew an old guy who worked as a balif in the courthouse in Jacksonville, FL who was a weekend warrior. He would play VFW halls. He covered Elvis, and he was FANTASTIC. Went to his shows all the time. He sponsored a home for old musicians that had no place to go.
What a cool guy!!
super encouragement .. as always .. thank you Brad !!
Always!
Its nice to do what you are actually meant to do for those few, three days a week then the hollow feeling as everyone cleans their bunks and grabs bags and cases and each heads a separate direction back to the real world.........
🙏
Drive Desire Ego Willpower or even love of music. You can decide which. Or I want to be like ......
YES so true!
Great vid! So true! For me playing has always been a religious experience whether I was recording tracks for a tv show or movie, touring live playing in front of 25,000 people or just playing around in my own studio by myself or playing with my band here in Thailand for relative peanuts at 65 years old now. It’s the closest thing to Nirvana I’ve found in this life and truly puts me in the present moment and it still does. I found out early in my career it wasn’t about chasing illusions. It was about playing the music. That’s all it’s ever been.
Amen! That is it. You have found the true meaning. I salute you!
I started playing guitar at 14, first paid gig at 18 still doing it at age 73. I have been a WW most of my life, it's in the blood. I never wanted to be "ordinary". I need the challenge of learning new licks and new tunes, it keeps me alive. I feel guilty if I skip a day of practicing on the instrument. Guitar and performing is an integral part of my personality, who I am as a human being and yes I spend thousands to earn hundreds! That's ok, because it's not about the money.
Love this story. It keeps us alive.
I worked as a musician exclusively for 2 years. Rent was a lot cheaper then but it was rough financially. I was lucky enough to find a job with Friday-Sunday off and giged often. Cover bands I got 100 per show but had 1000s invested. The last 3 years I worked with bands who didn't get paid. So being a musician is really about the journey than it is for making money.
Man you know that’s right!
Open jam guy for 23+ years. Not the same as weekend warrior, but fun, and I take a professional attitude toward jams. Pretty big jam scene where I live. Played lots of stages: restaurants, micro breweries, dive bars, clubs, back patios, lol. I like combo amps, less gear to carry.
I like combo amps too. Salute!
I definitely performed for the love of playing guitar the best I could. The pinnacle of my weekend warrior career was opening for Shotgun Messiah, Tyketto and Saigon Kick in the clubs. In most recent times it was for the outdoor music festivals. Thank you for sharing and your salute to everyone trying to entertain the masses.
Man those are some pretty big bands. I bet that was a blast .....Salute!
Appreciate your perspective. I’ve run into a handful of full time musicians that have some animosity toward us, like we’re encroaching on their territory. I feel like there are enough gigs to go around, especially if you are decent. Thank you for the respectful perspective.
Absolutely!
Brad, I love the way you bring out the reality of playing the music! Thanks
Glad you enjoy it!
I can see that. It was kind of all second nature to me. Dad wanted to be a songwriter and 90% of my friends parents had been involved in the music business. Marty Robbins owned the local race track and a bar in Smyrna and I was running into Carlton Haney at least once a week at the local M&M store and or the fishing shop next door in La Vergne. I’m pretty sure I didn’t have a choice. Joe Chambers lived right down the road from me in Smyrna. My first actual first real job at 13 was Opryland. I had no hope.
🍺😂
Wow that is incredible.
I met my soul mate wife being a weekend warrior in 1990 spent 3 more years on stage then wanted to spend my weekend with her instead of gigging at night. But i made the choice to back away from playing.........now she has just passed from cancer in 2022 and i decided to get back in my music. But here in northest ohio the scene is so different. I think there was a time when music was magical , just seems different
Man I’m so sorry to hear that. I hope you can find the magic again.
@@badbrad Im trying, it's all i got now
you can take away the guitar from the man, but you can't take the music from the man. Your channel inspires me Thank you Brad
I'm glad I can help.
We do it because we feel alive.
and to feel alive!
I believe you nailed the reason why. Butterflies Everytime I get on stage. 2 songs they're gone. But I keep doing it.
Yeah that gig adrenaline keeps us on our toes:
Shit man I needed to hear this ❤
I salute you!
Howdy Amigo...May I plz join the membership prog option....many thanks Amigo'
You're in!
Man was a FT player in NOLA in a rockabilly -new-wave band.. played 5-6 days a week. That world is GONE. Quit for about 10 years, came back as a weekend warrior for 24+ years doing jump blues and Zydeco and now NOLA tribute music! Its all day job half steppers nowadays Playing is PT only! But you know what? we cherry pick our GOOD gigs bc no need to keep the wolf from the door!
You might know a friend of mine Shane Theriot....he's a vet of the NOLA scene.
@@badbrad Missed him - I'm talking 80-86.. St. Louis Sheiks.. 5 miles high , Zebra... The Cold.. I know those cats and countless blues & roots guys..
It’s just a lot of fun to play music. I’m always a bit amused at the effect music has on people. I look out into the crowd and they are shaking and dancing and actually looking ridiculous. They don’t act like that normally, but when the music starts anything goes. It is a bit weird to me.
Yes most importantly it is fun.
Right on Brad!
Salute!
"the guys who spend thousands to make hundreds"! A priceless quote,my man. 😉👍😎🇮🇪
It's funny cause it's true
Loved this! Brad nailed it. In my 50’s and love pretending I’m a rockstar on the weekend. Plus the kids today love all the stuff we loved back in the 90’s. It’s their “classic rock”.
Yeah 90's is big right now. Best to you!
Salute my brother.
Salute!
❤chasin’ stages
Yes indeed. Always searching for another place to play.
@@badbrad indeed
Weekend warrior here! Since the 70's I was lucky to play originals from the beginning and for most of my time when I was being "serious" I Ordered a cup of coffee but never even got to sit at the counter and drink it, twice, damn it LOL Still I'm happy with the way things went all in all. I love playing just as much or even more now that I don't have a "grand motive". Ultimately, music is who we are, not just what we do! Blues jam 1/4/5 key of A... let's see if we can get to the place where magic happens :)
Great post! Music needs no motive....
I still get some butterflies before I gig even at one specific spot that I’ve played at the past 10 + years. Starts when I make that left turn to cross the bridge about 1/2 mile away & it comes into view on my left. Anticipate what the crowd will be like, seems to always be a sub gig with different guys I worked with before. Country & Rock tribute band I’ve been with for the last 8 years, a bit less so but it’s still there. Brings you down to earth, cause you’re only as good as your last gig. Thanks for the salute 🫡
Absolutely only as good as the last gig!
They way things are now, harder to make enough enough money to justafy being a weekend warrior these days.
That is true!
Dust in the wind- nice Travis picking. Almost all rockstars- Bonamassa, Gatton, Buchanan, started as weekend warriors. Today you can make your own streaming and synch licensing business in addition to gigging.
Absolutely!
Once it grabs u and u here uriah heep live on 8 track its over love potion #9 that record played that album alot , funny my first record was curtis mayfield superfly, for heavy rock guy curtis could groove like gold
All great!!👍🏻
