1:45 - From here to Millbourne the Almond Joy motormen would give it Parallel till it reached 35 MPH, then reset the controller and quickly apply Notch 1 Series until entering the station. Those controllers made an audible sigh with each movement the motorman made. Easily heard outside the cab.
That was a fun ride my favorite stations on the route were AB Blvd./46th Street, 30th Street Transportation Center, and all the CC/Downtown Philly stops.
Hey Dash I was wondering if one day I could Meet you At a Train or Bus Stop,Loop Like during the Weekend Preferably In Philly Thanks Dash Love your Videos
There's a building going up behind Millbourne Station. i havent seen any construction signs to tell what it will be though. I think a Sears Warehouse used to sit there.
I grew up across the crik from DrexeLine in the 60's. In the Era of Graffiti-Free Almond Joys, they seemed to shriek like a white girl getting raped going 'round the approach curves. I suspect SEPTA re-laid these tracks as it's much quieter than my recollections.

except you'd probably either 1, get hit by an incoming train and die. or 2, manage to avoid the incoming train but wind up on the third rail and get electrocuted and die.
I use to live north of Bridge and Pratt, would take the El to my job at the Philadelphia Bulletin Newspaper and actually remember many of the buildings along the tracks. Arrott use to be called Margaret Orthodox. Its too bad that they tore down many of the old homes and buildings and rebuilt them to look modern. I know in some places they rebuilt the older homes to match and fit into the neighborhoods. But in my opinion they ruined the character of the neighborhoods by building these "Jetson" style structures, especially in Fishtown. I have 8mm movie film of the ride in 1974 and if I can find a projector may try and film and upload.
And before Market East, it was simply 8th Street with entrances to Gimbels, Lit Brothers & Strawbridge and Clothier. The station used to have private vendors selling hot dogs, soft pretzels, candy, newspapers, umbrellas & hats etc. Back then every stop had candy vending machines and transfer machines. Transfers were free then. This is when it was the PTC, Philadelphia Transportation Co. Then Septa (or as we call it, INEPTA) took over in 1968. No more vendors or vending machines. No more free transfers, no more waiting less than 5 minutes for bus or trolley or train. Now...nothing!
@11:30 unless you are Billy Batson, do not expect anything to happen between here and the 34th Street station. Nothing happened to me when I said "Shazam!". No electric powers or ability to fly. :( #Shazam #billybatson #sivana #mrmind #saymyname But seriously, eastbound between 40th and 34th Street stations, that is where Shazam got his powers in the film. Did you know in the film, the Broad Street and PATCO line colors were switched? Fond memories of Philadelphia PA. XD
Only aerial very few shots were filmed in Philadelphia. All of the actual movie was filmed in Toronto, INCLUDING the fake Septa train which is a TTC train, nothing switched or to do with Septa other then a sticker. The platform used is closed and used for filming many many movies.
IDK...I used to live in Chicago, and although their El system is quite a bit larger, I can't say that most of their stations are any better, cleaner, or even safer than the ones here - Especially when comparing to the stations on the lines that run within close proximity to or actually in-between the expressways in Chicago! Those are atrocious!
Wrong. At 39:10, look to the road going right. The Bridge-Pratt station was over there. The name died with it, the new station you see now is when the name change came into place.
El rides were always fun as a kid now it's just a way to get around
31:28 Allegheny Station. Stop for the legendary Kensington neighborhood. (See street level videos under "Kensington")
No thanks...I'll pass (Literally!)...
Not only the Allegheny Station, the completly neighboorhood of this Route to Frankfort is very bad.
10:40 Whenever I pass by the hospital at the 40th St station I think of my late grandmother who passed away in 1984
RIP Mom Mom
Thats sad
You took her to the train?
5:45 I remember there was Geno's fast food restaurant at the southwest corner of 52nd and Market in the 70s

It was a Sears and the building is going to be a storage facility for a Children's Hospital per article online.

37:38 Formally Margaret-Orthodox Station
It looks like it would be easy to walk along the tracks between stations.
The 3rd rail will electrocute you alive in seconds
except you'd probably either 1, get hit by an incoming train and die. or 2, manage to avoid the incoming train but wind up on the third rail and get electrocuted and die.
I'm a train and I approve this video!!
I always knew that one day a train would comment on a UA-cam video! The AIs are getting too advanced!!!
I'm sure Retired Railfan Horn Guy would heartily approve of these trains being retrofitted with Wabtec AA-2 horns. (Think Silverliner II)

23:06 Formally Fairmont Station
did i see a stub for an unbuilt tunnel west of 40th? what's that large gap in the wall at 21:45?
My favorite is the train we are riding and the 🚃 trolley
Morristown had to get off, loving the engineering
The front of the car was roped off how are you able to get the head end ride
He is the operator of the train
no, there's a seat in the very front of the train that you can sit at to see the front window view. I sit there all the time when I ride this train.

that's strange how 15th, 13th, and 11 streets are spaced very closely.
Thats because its the shopping district.
they're 2 blocks away from each other
Damn that is close
I waited very patiently for this video to improve, but it never did. I hope you give it another try.
Like the train ride to 69 street station.
Folks, how many subway platforms can hold 8 cars?
I also like the septa commuters
Why is this train going so slow? I’ve never been on an MFL train before that went this slow!
Frankfort train making ALL STOPS.
Bruh I dunno what you on about, for locals, these trains haul extreme ass.
Like I rarely see regional rail trains with this level of acceleration.
And the market Frankford line has 27 stops
I never went on the septa same with chicago transit
Also 40th st was stable...it was probably an electricty accident...
And on philidepha doesn't the patco go there?!
IDK...I used to live in Chicago, and although their El system is quite a bit larger, I can't say that most of their stations are any better, cleaner, or even safer than the ones here - Especially when comparing to the stations on the lines that run within close proximity to or actually in-between the expressways in Chicago! The signage at Millbourne is an embarassment. It looks like the intern did it.
Etie-torresdale yayyay, o k
Formerly Bridge-Pratt Terminal 39:40
Wrong. At 39:10, look to the road going right. The Bridge-Pratt station was over there. The name died with it, the new station you see now is when the name change came into place.
