    Wow, this video is almost 50 years old and it shows that, somehow, the incredible Joan Rivers stayed just as funny, brilliant and charming up until the day she died. There's a reason this lady was loved by people around the world and there will never, ever be anyone like her again. Thank you posting this clip.

      Yes, indeed. It's a well-documented fact that she could break Johnny up more hysterically than Jay Leno and David Letterman put together! I just wish she hadn't jumped ship to the then-fledgling Fox Network so hastily. If she and Johnny could have it talked it over, first, she might very well have become the first permanent _hostess_ of THE TONIGHT SHOW, following Johnny's eventual retirement. But, as it stands now, hosting a late-night TV talk show is _still_ an all-boys' club. 😞

      @@carycomic1954 Great point. Leaving the Tonight Show for her own doomed late-night talk show was a huge, huge mistake, thanks to Edgar's bad judgment. She made a huge comeback but went through hell because of that short-lived show on Fox.

      ManInTheBigHat he didn’t make her.. he gave her her first break. Gave her exposure. In that case Johnny Carson would own a lot of people. He’s there to give comedians, musician etc. exposure. She didn’t owe him anything. !! His feelings got hurt. 🤬. Really. Johnny.. grow up. Oh. I’m sorry. He’s dead

    First, this shows Joan was never ugly. I can see the difference her multiple cosmetic surgeries have made; her face in later years was much fuller. But she was lovely even before it. But if it made her happy, I applaud her.
    Second, you could see that she and Johnny had such a great rapport. It's such a shame their friendship ended.
    Third, her material, to this day, had me in tears. Classic!

      If Trump was president then and doing what he’s doing now, not only would comedians be tearing him apart, he would have likely already been removed from office. There was a high level of standards for presidents then. Trump would have never made it this far. One reason there’s more jokes about Trump is because he is an endless source of material. It’s not an agenda, it’s that he’s constantly doing and saying ridiculous things.

    I was 12 years old when this aired. We were not allowed to stay up late enough to watch Johnny Carson, so I never got to see this live. Of course in later years I did see these but Joan was amazing in those days. She was a pioneer. Women in those days were not allowed to do comedy in a male dominated arena. She stomped her little feet up to these men and got her way. You have to give her credit she was a bad ass. She had no fear. She paved the way in comedy for women almost single handed. Don't worry Joan we could never forget you!!

      Not only did she have a first class brain & a wonderful memory. Her delivery of a joke was, to my mind, funny because she kept a straight face. That is the crux of a funny story. One delivers it, as you say, as if it is just another story. That reminds me of dark humor & British humor. What I admired about her was she went to all these English speaking countries & really did her homework, she would find out names of high profile politicians, who was in who was out, who was gay who had had affairs. She evidently had a huge research team doing all of this in Britain, Canada, Australia, NZ etc. & she would incorporate those people & places in her act. She made it all look so easy that shows just how hard she worked. Like Jack Benny with his violin. He was a master violinist & played the fool with it. Both Mr. Benny & Ms. Rivers are class acts. I wonder what she would have made of Trump as president. Pity we never found out. RIP the Brilliant Ms. Joan Rivers.

    Joan wound up as Johnny's permanent replacement one day a week when Johnny cut down to a 3-day work week (the other day was a re-run), and even had her own walk-on music, not the Tonight Show theme. If she had only asked Johnny for his approval to strike out on her own and get her own competing late night talk show, he would have given it. He loved Joan... well, as much as Johnny could love anyone. This is what his attorney, "Bombastic" Bushkin wrote.

    At 11:00, Joan says, "....it's Bicentennial Year..." which was 1976. This is dated 20/5-1975?

    The "new" MATH he is referring to is the haunted "common core" now... :P

    • @anonygent
      @anonygent 3 роки тому +1

      New math was all the set notation stuff. I learned from a female math major (how rare) that set notation was the LAST thing you were supposed to learn, that it pulled all the other threads of math together into a unified whole. Common core is completely different and, from what I have heard from math professionals, complete nonsense.
