  • For Memorial Day weekend we wanted to skip the crowds and go to a more isolated dispersed camping area. Horsethief Basin was the perfect fit for a weekend of solitude and enjoying the outdoors.
    Just a short drive up from Phoenix, you take the Bumblebee exit after Black Canyon City. From there you follow 32 miles of dirt road through Bumblebee, AZ - Cleator, AZ and finally Crown King, AZ to Horsethief Basin Recreation Area (dispersed camping is just outside the recreation area).
    We spent the next couple days exploring the area and enjoying the beautiful views of lake from all around. There is some great information on the area on the Prescott National Forest website.

    Nice video! What a fun spot! Brave on the tires. Think we’re gonna need that wicked fancy, tire gauge app you have there. 🤔😄👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

    Please, please, please - adjust music levels down. You narrative is much quieter than your music. Otherwise, great filming, and lovely family

      I have definitely heard the same for this video and have grown as a video editor in the time since. Unfortunately there are no re-do's here on UA-cam, but the video quality progresses with each video. Finally catching up on comments as we kick off getting more videos uploaded again!

    Why did you put what looks like caulk around the top edge of the fender? Thanks. Nice video.

    • @desertpointadventures
      @desertpointadventures  Рік тому

      The factory adds black caulk to a majority of the seams including where the fender meets the body. It attracts dust and may look a little out of place when dirty.

    How do you keep your gsp from running off?

      We used e-collar training early in their development for a strong recall. We always have e-collars on just in case at this point but they know to stay in sight.

      I'm sure this comment was made in good fun haha! Yes it's not rock crawling, but the ride quality for 68 miles round trip is much happier over miles of washboards. Definitely was a suspension difference as our new 4Runner absolutely does not need aired down for a comfortable ride over the same terrain.

    do you why about he dogs incounring rattle snakes

    • @desertpointadventures
      @desertpointadventures  5 місяців тому

      While we certainly do worry about it, a majority of our camping happens at elevations with less frequent snake sightings. In the winter down in the lower elevations the snakes tend to still be in their dens when were out camping in the winter.

    I really don't understand why people are so compelled to advertise all over the internet their trips to "secluded" areas. All it does is open these areas up for an influx of more and more people, and before long they aren't "secluded" anymore. In stead they are becoming over run with van lifers and professional transients in their Astro vans. Let people discover places like this for themselves and let them remain secluded a little longer.

  • @Liebuster24

    Do you think a Chevy Astro van with a very good experience driver with heavy equipment experience and knowledge could make it up there?
    I saw a couple of rough places that I think my van could go through if I went slow but I don't know about the rest.. I'm coming up that way in two or three weeks and I'd like to try that spot if I can get in there

      It's definitely possible, there are no substantial obstacles. You would need the choose the right line a few times to avoid clearance issues. The main concern at this time of year, this specific area is high enough in elevation there is likely to be some snow/ice. Additionally, seasonally the roads can change quite a bit, we have seen the road in much worse condition prior to this trip. It seems they ran a grader through the area just before we went up there.

      Thank you for the quick response.
      I believe that deserves a thumbs up ,a like and a subscribe...
      After watching some of your videos and then seeing that place I decided to add it to the collection of places I intend to visit in the next 2 or 3 months..
      I will walk part of the road at first with my dog and make sure I can drive up there..
      Thank you , be safe, and enjoy your travels.
      I will be watching your videos.👍
