  • We spent our last weekend of June 2022 camping in Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest.
This is pristine Arizona mountain country where you can see year round rivers and see amazing summer monsoon storms. We were able to spot elk off in the distance and fished the North Fork of the Black River.
While we had no luck fishing, we had a great time shed hunting with our two German Shorthaired Pointers. While they are not trained to hunt sheds specifically, they located many of the elk carcasses and skeletons we came across.
All in all it was an amazing weekend adventure we will remember for our lifetime.

Those mud tube looking things on the ground are from squirrels, or mice.... They borough through the dirt when the land is covered in snow. And it looks like that after the snow melts. That's what causes it on my property anyway.

That’s my favorite part of AZ. I wish it wasn’t so far from Phx., though it’s a beautiful drive. Beautiful video!

Thanks! Camping in thunderstorms is the best, especially here in AZ. We are happy we are getting an early start to this monsoon season. Last year the forests were closed for a good chunk of the summer due to increased fire risk.

Thx for the video, cool spot. little tip: You can move that rectangular flap from the right side of your awning to the back and cover the gap between the galley and the end of the awning. It just slides into this round channel inside the tubing. Hiker rules...we love our 5x9 Mid-Range.

I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for the AZ tips! We have a Hiker on order and escape the Midwest 3 or 4 weeks a year. The southwest is growing on me! We just came back from a long weekend in Saguaro and enjoyed the 70 degrees. Be safe!

@@desertpointadventures I've been trying to understand forest road and BLM mapping. That's a whole other rabbit hole to fall in.

@@BrianD-KS For sure, Onxmaps has been a great tool in combination with each lands managing website. Whenever we're researching new places, I go to the Forest Service website (or blm) and look for a "dispersed camping" tab. This will usually tell you the rules of the area, sometimes from there you need to look at the forest map to determine dispersed camping corridors. For almost all National Forest lands they state dispersed camping is allowed in the entire forest, however vehicle use is limited to designated roads and a certain amount of distance from the road.

@@desertpointadventures Downloaded onX. Thank you. I'm sure off-season and off-days help as well. Your videos have helped quite a bit. Watching you manage your tire pressure has helped us, especially while we were on our trip to Big Bend last fall. Thanks again!

Shoot man what forest road did you take to get out there? I’m going up there in about a month and that spot is awesome! I swear I’m a good camper,I leave no trace.
