Could you please tell me which one is the phone holder you have on your phone? Im looking to replace mine and yours seems a good option. But I wouldn't know here to start looking for it. Thank you 🙏
Another good quote that inspires an early retirement is, “if you don’t spend it, you don’t have to earn it.” People get get caught up in living a life to impress others. There is no end game. There will always be a better car, a better house, a better handbag. It never ends.
I love that quote: “you wouldn’t let people steal your property, but you let them steal your time”. I think it’s balancing the choices that’s difficult, because it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. So you can continue to earn but work 4 days a week…or maybe 3…then 2 😅
Most of us don’t realize early in life that if you spend less you can possibly retire early. Who wouldn’t want to have more free time unless you absolutely enjoy working? The saying is that time is money. You can also look at it as money is time meaning that the more money you waste, the more time is spent working. I’m so happy that my husband and I were so intent on paying our debts as quickly as possibly when we were young. We focused on that instead of buying material possessions. Our money went towards our mortgage and then into investments. He was able to retire almost two years ago and although he was 57 it is still years younger than most people we know. We are still able to buy nice things if we want but more importantly we have time for each other enjoying experiences. If only everyone realized how this could be accomplished. Congrats Eileen.❤️🙏👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
When you were talking about the news it got me thinking. If you live long enough you come to realise that the world is always ending. There’s actually no end to that. War, famine, disease, social upheaval. It is a never ending cycle.
Great video Eileen. In my early teens, a friend gifted me a book about never having to spend more than you have for anything while still looking good and stylish. I've lived by those rules all my life. My (and thankfully my husband's) rule is if we don't have it, we won't spend it and that applies to everything. We have never gone into debt, never have had an overdraft or late payments on anything. I still like and own good things: Shoes, handbags etc but I only spend when I have the money to pay in full. I've always been in control and things have never controlled me. By sharing your experiences, I hope that younger people who are starting their journey in careers etc, avoid getting caught into the frenzy of shopping just "to have". Thanks again for sharing these valuable life experiences.
Thanks Eileen! Amazing video! I am a shopaholic and trying to get out of it. I honestly think that I need to stop looking at instagram and UA-cam to get my mind out of buying stuff. I am 57 and looking forward to retire at 60. I can now retire as I have all the numbers to do so but since I love shopping I am continuing but I really need to save more money!!! I will check out the books you mentioned. I really need to change my mindset. Congrats on your retirement!!!
You can do it. Stop and ask yourself how many of the things you bought do you actually use. Then ask yourself how many similar items you bought. I made a promise to myself not to buy multiples of the same thing. Hope this helps.
I'm in the same boat! Shopping out of boredom, buying as a mood booster, and buying same things over and over again is not feasible in retirement, which is soon for me! It's a work in progress!
Hallo Eileen! Please make a video about your daily routine. I am really curious to see your meal prepping or your meals in general. Thank you for your chanel, it is very inspiring, even thow I will never own luxury things I enjoy seeing them.
Your video makes me think of a comment a woman I knew made to me many years ago. She tended to shop in the more expensive grocery store in town, and she said that it was because she knew she could be in and out much faster than at the other one and that her TIME was as valuable as the money she would have saved had she shopped at the other store. We're only here a limited amount of time, we need to make the most of it and not be so engrossed in possessions and what everyone else is doing. Glad to hear you met your goal and are going to enjoy your time off!
Eileen, I'm so Happy for you and your family.... the BEST THING that could happen for your son. I believe it's designed for us to be slaves to the system and not understand financial freedom. But then again, you're talking to someone who questions the education system and believe financial management should be taught. We're taught to work for our money, rather letting our money work for us. My prayer is for you continue to be FREE! Amazing share!!!💛
Your thoughts are so helpful. I recently purchased the book, Goodbye, Things. I intend to start it today. A few years ago, I read Marie Kondo's book that helped me starting to think of scaling down. During Covid, I started watching fashion influencers on UA-cam and I got hooked. I did want to refresh my wardrobe after I retired last May, but I think I went a little overboard. I started this year on a "low buy" plan. So far, so good. I am more conscious of purchasing quality over quantity. The clothing I buy has to have sustainable fabrics such as cotton, linen, wool, and silk. Your videos are so inspiring.
This video hit home for me. And I'll definitely look into some of the books you recommended. It really was a reminder that the small actions compound into how your day and, untimately, your life look like. 🙏 Thank you ❤️
love this! i definitely will add your books to my list. i do still enjoy luxury and shopping, but like you said, I'm more mindful now because time is also money (vice versa) and in the future I want the option to spend more time with my future children and also volunteer at shelters, give back more, etc.
I really love the message in this video! It makes such a difference for me to spend my time on healthy activities instead of focusing on the news and negatives of the day.
I'm 30 and i decided to retire myself after working for 10 years. I oppened an online bussines and i'm more happy now bc im not in the traffic and i control my time, im more creative now. I also have a small luxury collection. Your vídeo inspire me so much to know i'm not crazy For thinking about retirement in My early years❤
I have a feelings like you‘ll go back to your work after a couple of years of slowing down. Burning out happens with many medical professionals. But later they miss their profession.
To be honest, I do miss certain aspects of the job. Maybe one day I will actually return to it, but at the moment I do really need the rest. Keeping my options open however xx
I appreciate the work and effort you put into your videos, Eileen. They're always helpful and positive. We are also working toward retiring early. Do you have any tips to share about how you handled insurance? In the United States, we can buy private insurance (assuming we won't have insurance from our employer once we retire and are still too young for Medicare), but it's often very expensive. Thanks to your videos, I'm rethinking how much I "need" and have scaled back my purchases. It feels good!
I love what you said about spending your time creating memories and experiences. I am definitely not ready for retirement yet, I now what direction I want to go and what is best for us. I now what where I want to spend my time, energy and money. Thank you for sharing.
Congratulations!💜My goal is to retire early as well. I work in medicine as a physicist, but plan to retire in my early thirties. Some people think that's crazy. I'm 24 right now
You’re so inspirational!! I loved your channel before but I love even more now! I am going to pick up the nooks you recommended and I agree that taking care of ourselves and our families and building memories is priceless. Life is short and I definitely don’t want to accumulate things but I do want to love the small things and have no regrets 🎉🎉❤ I also need to pick up a book 📕 more often.. that’s where I lack 😊
Thank you so much for the sweet message, it really keeps me going! I think I was lucky to have come across good books when I did, it really ignited my love for books and I'm so excited to explore more xx
Some career and rank pay very well but the amount of stress and having to take calls or emails on the weekends isn’t worth it longterm. I don’t mind the rat race in my 20s-40s so I can get the good things in life like a car, house and investing in building a solid nest. However, to do that until retirement age of 60s plus is too much, life is short! I plan to retire early too and maybe live abroad in Asia and move around to cut cost and expenses until I reach 62 and then come back to the states(US). That is when we can collect social security funds from the government. Life is too short to not enjoy the beauty and experiences and be cooped up for 40-60 hours making $$ that we likely won’t take with us when our time is over.
Life is too short indeed, when I was working, I always wanted to do more and more, sometimes at the expense of some important things. I’m thankful for this break xx
But why would you want to retire at 30? Surely your most productive and rewarding years are still ahead of us, no? An alternative profession might be a better option rather than ‘retiring’
Hi Sophie, I think the message is to have the option to leave the rat race when it feels right. I've always said I might return to the profession, but it's nice to be able to have a break when my body and my mind ask for it. The pandemic shows us how unpredictable the job market can be xx
It's an interesting video, I think it'll be obvious and relatable to people who are already in the same mindset, but not very understandable to someone who considers looking at dew drops loss of time because shopping, partying and being in a noisy environment is the only thing they consider interesting. And the idea of surrounding yourself with positivity is of course one of the healthiest advice we can get. However, we cannot ignore the bad news. Inequalities, poverty, hate crimes, and the most important one - the world really is ending. And not because we might blow ourselves to pieces in wars, but simply because we won't have a planet able to support life anymore. Even if that doesn't happen for decades or even hundred of years, we still shouldn't ignore it. Actually facing bad news is empowering, lets you act in small and big ways, is the prerequisite to change. So yes, let's look for positivity in negativity👍
Very valid points and thank you for sharing! It's important to keep up to date with the news for sure. I still check the news once a day but I usually do it in the later afternoon. I prefer to reserve my fresh mind for creative tasks in the morning xx
If you dont mind me asking, what was the average salary in the UK that made you able to retire? I currently work overseas and got offered a 65k job in the UK. I am just not sure if with this money I could also plan for an early retirement (even though I am already in my 30s hehe)

You are calling it retired but at your age and the income you have it’s really called just quitting your job and you have that luxury because your husband works and you’ve decided to cut down on spending

I don’t think any early retirees intend to sit on a couch and do nothing. Most people retire early from their day jobs to do more of what they really enjoy. For me, sharing my journey is part of my passion. So is learning, ice skating, drawing, reading and the list goes on. At times, I’d come across opportunities that align with my values, so why not take them up?

I appreciate your journey and videos (binge watched a lot in the past few days 😅) but with all due respect what you say sounds quite vague. You talk about retiring early (FIRE) but you don't talk about any numbers and you still own quite a ton of incredibly expensive luxury items and live in what looks like a multi storey house. I understand dentists make a good living but it's hard to believe that you could simply retire early in your mid thirties on your own UK dentist salary (you talk about boss so I assume you don't have your practice). what I assume is that you scaled down hyperconsumption, sold off excess inventory of your archive (of course at a loss. Not sure how much came from those sales, but it doesn't look like half a million pounds that one would need in order to start a FIRE journey), became a more frugal stay at home mum and part time youtuber. I appreciate the message but I still find it impossible to relate. Nobody can retire mid 35s after spending their 20s with a luxury shopping addiction accumulating all sort of Hermes merchandise. I just would like you to be more transparent as when it comes to personal finance communities online there are numbers and facts and here I only hear aspirational generic things. I hope you understand what I mean.
