The perfect Bond theme for this film - it feels muscular, dangerous, tense, and a little bit sad. And feels both fresh and classic at the same time. Perfectly captures the essence of the film, and I honestly think the combination of the pre-credits sequence followed by this is one of the reasons why Casino Royale works so well. It primes you for what's to come.

Man, the fact this song did not even get nominated for an Oscar but yet most of the other songs for the Daniel Craig movies not only did get nominated but also won Best Original Song is truly a crime when this is easily the best song of al the Craig movies in my opinion. The other songs just didn’t have the passion and energy that Cornell has here.

I was surprised when i read a Rolling Stone article about Bond songs that this song counted as one of the worst. For my opinion "You know my name" is a powerful songs which describes the right character of James Bond in our days. Also i believe that the late Chris Cornel gave one of the best performances for a Bond song. Unforgetable.

I don't think i've seen anyone mention that the chorus of this song is supported by the same three-note chromatic progression that is the base of the James Bond theme. The original theme is in E minor, this song is in in B minor, but relatively, the progression is the same. In this song, the progression ends on the third note, while in the Bond theme, a fourth note redirects smoothly to the beginning of the progression. As if the song was an incomplete, unfinished version of the Bond theme - just like Bond himself in the film. This contributes in making "You Know My Name" the perfect seminal song for the character.

He has been scoring all of the Brosnan movies (expect Goldeneye) and he made fan remixes of Bond music before he was asked to compose for the movies for reals. He knows the Bond theme inside and out and could because of that find a way to play around with it. Now I'm not downplaying Cornell here (RIP). He and Arnold composed the song together and made the song what it is and I doubt he would want to be just another musician for hire. Probably the "deepest" lyrics ever written for a Bond movie theme.
    Quote from Wikipedia:
Cornell thought it was a strange offer, considering that he is American, and imagined that he would perform a secondary song in the film instead of the main theme. Cornell declared he liked the Bond movies, particularly the ones with Sean Connery, but that he "wasn't really a big fan of the last several movies". But Daniel Craig's casting as James Bond intrigued the musician, and he decided to accept the job. Cornell then went to Prague to visit the film's shooting, and was much impressed with the film's emotional content after he was shown a rough cut of Casino Royale. In Prague he also met the score composer, David Arnold, who suggested writing a song "that echoed the film score".
The composers started their writing separately, Cornell in his apartment in Paris, and Arnold in his house in London. Cornell stated that he had some difficulties with composing: "It is difficult, I think, to write lyrics for a character, so really I just kind of wandered around for about a month not thinking about it too much, until I sort of formulated some idea of a way that I could approach it, where I'm kind of relating to what's in the character in the movie. And because this particular Bond is very edgy, but also has a lot of emotional depth, it's a lot easier."Later the two musicians met and showed each other's ideas, and according to Arnold "it was almost like we wrote two parts of the same song."Cornell wrote lyrics, to which Arnold added some lines and later music. Some of Arnold's ideas included the song's title, the heavy introduction, and "having the same genetic material as the Bond theme, but in a different order and in a different shape".

This is not only the greatest Bond theme ever written, but perhaps one of the greatest songs ever written for a film. A lot of the other themes are written either about the villain themselves (and some of these are awesome btw), or just anything. All they need is just to have the title of the movie in them. Not that there aren't other great ones, but this speaks to the character of James Bond himself.

Luis Guerrero When I think back to that night, I feel like crying because all the fans and media were saying Craig is too ugly and is going to destroy the whole series after this movie. His fans were cheering because they wanted to give him a chance. And he proved every naysayer wrong.

He claimed to have proof about child lovers in hollyweird.
That's a big no no if you don't want to end up in suicides

Casino royale was the best in every way. Young Craig imo was the best Bond. Had grittyness. Best music, Best Bond Girl, Best Villain, and actually felt like a spy film.

I don't understand why folks don't like this song? It's great along with his singing. The crescendo at the in is fantastic.

This is a really really great song. Chris Cornell was so talented it’s such a tragedy that we lost him so young. I love the line “I’ve seen angels fall from blinding heights.” And “I've seen this diamond cut through harder men.”

I remember not being convinced by the new Bond when Casino Royale was released. The intense intro and this opening theme convinced me otherwise. Be at peace, Mr. Cornell.

There are only two movies I regret not seeing in the cinema. One of them is Avengers 1. The other is this one.

Fitting we got the most epic tune for the best film of the series. I love most of the series, but they totally nailed it with Casino Royale. This film is a masterpiece.
