    Bond (Daniel Craig) chases Mollaka (Sebastien Foucan) across every obstacle imaginable.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
    Actor Daniel Craig assumes the role formerly occupied by such screen greats as Sean Connery, Roger Moore, and Timothy Dalton to set out on the character's very first 007 mission. James Bond has earned his "00" status by masterfully executing a pair of death-defying professional assassinations. Now assigned the task of traveling to Madagascar to spy on notorious terrorist Mollaka (Sebastien Foucan) for his maiden voyage as a 007 agent, Bond boldly goes against MI6 policy to launch an independent investigation that finds him traversing the Bahamas in search of Mollaka's notoriously elusive terror cell. Subsequently led into the company of the mysterious Dimitrios (Simon Abkarian) and his exotic girlfriend, Solange (Caterina Murino), Bond soon realizes that he is closer than ever to locating well-guarded terrorist financier Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelsen), the man who has personally bankrolled some of the most prevalent terrorist organizations on the planet. When Bond learns that Le Chiffre is planning to partake in an upcoming high-stakes poker game to be played at Montenegro's Le Casino Royale and use the winnings to establish his financial grip on the globe, M (Judi Dench) assigns beguiling agent Vesper (Eva Green) the task of watching over the fledgling agent as he plays against Le Chiffre in a covert attempt to destroy the nefarious gambler's well-established monetary stronghold in the underworld once and for all. Bond will need more than his legendary gambling skills in order to win this dangerous game, though, and after allying himself with local MI6 field agent Mathis (Giancarlo Giannini) and CIA operative Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright), the endlessly suave super-spy puts on his poker face for a high-stakes game of cards in which the stakes are not measured in dollars, but human lives.

    That was one hell of a good start of 007 franchise. Within just 7 minute opening of the film, you already quite familiar with this new James Bond - brave (the jump), smart (use his head), stubborn (never gave up) and reckless (blown up the embassy). That was a brilliant directing skill.

    The thing I like most about Daniel Craig's Bond is that he's not some infallible super spy - I mean he is - but he's human. In the chase scene he tends to mess up, trip, fall, stumble. He makes mistakes, and that's what I can dig. Much more realistic and makes me appreciate him more as a character.

    • @McCabeRz
      @McCabeRz 9 років тому +174

      I agree, I think that's what they did well in these movies, if they had portrayed Bond with some immeasurable skill and was keeping up with the Parkour then the movie would have lost what it had here.
      Instead he's relatable in the aspect that most of the audience can't do that, so let's just run through the wall.

    Textbook. The team that did this sequence can be proud forever. Every cut is there for a reason; every shot has an identifiable purpose and clear content. Visual storytelling at its best. Of course there are many impossible things being done, but it's still believable, and physically feels real. Steady camera work-no nauseating handheld abuse. And an indelible intro of a new and different, physically relentless Bond.

I liked the villain Silva who I thought was the best Bond villain in years. Yeah I agree the story doesn't make much sense and Bond surviving a massive fall after getting shot does seem rather implausible and of course there is no obvious Bond Girl. However the London Underground chase, the motorbike chase and the casino fight in China made the film interesting and likeable for me anyway- gave me a laugh. Guess it was a film you shouldn't take too seriously- just go with it.

He can't match the runner's parkour abilities, but he constantly uses the environment to catch up anyway. By all accounts, the runner should have gotten away fairly easily. His physical skills surpass those of Bond, but what Bond lacks in parkour skills he made up for in awareness of his surroundings. Amazing scene. Still holds up to this day. The dude he's chasing after is Sebastien Foucan himself, one of the parkour OGs and the founder of freerun.

    I'm more impressed with Sebastian foucan doing the jump into the elevator without wires. They only had guide wires set up for that whole scene according to Daniel Craig. Not any CGI was used.

      ***** I thought they were ok, Skyfall's ending was a little too chaotic and over the top, but that's about it. Blofeld fucked up when he stupidly waited for Bond to shoot his copter down, but that bit when Bond confronted Blofeld on the bridge was amazing!

    This scene really defined Bond imo, because in every athletic action the 'villain' takes, Bond uses his ingenuity and wit (the long armed crane to run up, the counterweight to lift elevate himself to the top of the overhead crane, when the guy slips through that small space above the drywall whereas he smashes through it like the kool-aid man, and the final leap across the small elevator and Bond instead takes the scissor lift down). All of those things really made Bond stand out using his unique thinking to catch a physically and athletically superior foe. The chase exemplifies all of it so well and the rest of the movie also does a great job of showing his luck, which I think is another key thing Bond has going for him.

    When Daniel Craig was cast as the new James Bond I was curious as to how he would get on. I had already seen him in a few movies before it and he was a good looking guy who was in really good shape too so I was wondering how he would take to the role. Fortunatley he was brilliant. He has brought a new James Bond to the screen. He doesn't have gadgets like previous Bonds. He is a new kind of 007 and I think he is absolutely superb. He does a lot of his own stunts and so far Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace and Skyfall have all been great Bond movies with some brilliant action. He is the best Bond since Connery and I hope we have him playing 007 for a good while yet. He's made for the part!
