Much respect to Danya for not putting this on his youtube channel. He'd probably get 10× as many views as drama always does. But he just keeps it about chess with the speed runs. Legend
I think he should just farm views on this like crazy. I mean there is no way to disprove accusations like this (well-known from e.g. cycling - whatever you say in your defense will only make people more determined in their prior belief), so he might as well just gain something from it
@@bjarkenicolaisen4502 Nah, if he posted videos about it they'd be a magnet for the weird subculture of Kramnik fanboys to come talk trash in the comments. Keeping his channel on-brand and focused on his usual content makes sense. And it's a classy power move for him to accept that others will gladly spread the discourse in his defense. I totally agree with your logic about there being no point getting too defensive, though, yeah. People will believe what they've decided to believe

When you watch "Kramnik calling people cheaters" videos all day it's easy to forget that to an everyday person, the story is that "the 8 time world champion called a random GM a cheater." which many people would probably just believe at face value. Personally, I have seen enough of Danya's personality to know that he is genuinely very hurt at the negative reactions he's gotten.
Kramnik even left his chair at Titled Tuesday "to open the door for his daughter that arrived home from school". Perhaps he wanted to go check some engine. Interesting...
Maybe his daughter followed the game, and Kramnik asked her beforehand to intervene when necessary? Did Kramnik explain his process of thought after that strange incident? It makes him rather suspicious, don't Kramnik think? He should address this, I'm just asking questions here.

I don't think Kramnik is just trying to stir up drama for the clicks i think he's just losing his mind bcuz he doesn't trust people around him (more like people in russia(more like the entire russian sports industry)) he doesn't believe he can trust a modern day speed chess genius from canada
@@AdamZerhouni-g3l Kramnik is not trusting anyone from anywhere, and that’s pretty sad to see but unfortunately it’s how his brain functions now with all the things he experienced
My theory is that Kramnik has a vendetta against Chesscom after they didn't respond to his (multiple) allegations and eventually banned him for wildly accusatory blog posts on the site. As a result, I think he's accusing Chesscom sponsored players like Hikaru and Danya of cheating to try and damage the reputation of the company.
Kramnik made himself a laughing stock when he "non-accused" Hikaru. He doesn't have any clue about cheating and the differences between classical and online blitz.
it's just sad to see how a super GM and former world champion can make himself look like such an idiot, i remember he called out Jose martinez for cheating and when they battled it out he was constantly complaining about the computer whenever he got beaten by Jose... and now he calls out one of the top players out there who is also an influencer... Vlad you are a joke.. time to retire
And even in BOTH matches with José, Kramnik refused to play in the same time format of TT, which is exactly the time format an tournament he accused José to be cheating in.
bro i would believe the earth is flat rather than believing danya is a cheater, my dude kramnik does not know what he's talking about, danya has been around for so long as one of the first top level online blitz chess player, the amount of games he has played live on stream and the lines that he's been calculating and explaining to the viewers for so long obviously shows he's not a cheater, like bro just use your brain, even if he can cheat in blitz how do u explain his strength in bullet and hypperbullet, even the top players in online blitz, like hikaru firouzja bortnyk, they know he isn't cheating, they've played thousands of games against each other and i'm really not gonna explain why they're 1000% sure he isn't a cheater, kramnik does not understand that danya is a modern day speed chess genius, at his best easily top 5 speed chess players in the world, right at the level of magnus, hikaru, firouzja

It was stated casually long ago by Ben Finegold that if Danya wanted to, he could have heavily contended with the Super GMs but instead chose the path of school at Stanford. Kramnik lives without an ounce of respect for what Danya has accomplished; Maybe because he only gives credit to those who dedicated their entire life to being a super GM and resents the fact that someone can be that talented. Maybe the voices in his head are telling him. Maybe he’s been living under a rock and has not seen all of the great things Danya has done for the game of chess. Kramnik is a child in an adults body, the only developed neural pathways dedicated to chess. Conversely, Danya was an adult at a young age, writing books and dedicating time to other interests. This is why it’s important to expand your world and be curious. Be a Danya, not a Kramnik. I don’t care about how many world championships you have, I care about how you treat others and how you grow the game and others. Danya shouldn’t even have to acknowledge the allegations because they are absurd. Let’s move on and stop giving someone a platform who just tries tirelessly to bring others down because he’s a narcissistic man baby.
I think Hikaru's explanation is spot on: Kramnik just doesn't understand blitz playstyles of today. His mindset is only for OTB chess, so the way that people play online looks like cheating to him, because he doesn't understand the thought process. As for Danya, I actually think it's good that he is defending himself, because Kramnik finally decided to attack someone who is universally respected, and there's no better way to expose him as a slanderous fool.
I think Hikaru, despite not explaining it very well, hit the nail on the head. Kramnik just does not understand how modern times work. To him, moving pieces fast is black magic, he can't fathom people's ability with a mouse. He can't fathom that good chess players nowadays who play fast time controls are freaking wizards. In his head, as a former world champion, if he can't play that way no one should be able to. He can't wrap his head around streaming and playing, having more than one monitor, looking at chat. None of that exists to him, so, in the end, it's all witchcraft. Thats without saying that there are a bunch of young guys who play thousands of games online, and may have no inclination towards playing OTB. So yes a 2100 FIDE may be stronger than that in the confort of his/her home. Cheating does exist, and online it's a real problem, but in his case, despite being a legend of the game, he's just old, past his prime and butthurt
It's even more simple, Kramnik can't comprehend that other chess players have different modes of thinking and calculating than him. He thinks, if there is no way HE could have come up with a move, than NOBODY could have come up with that move, since he is the world champion. He has a very primitve understanding about how people think and feel. A true sociopath.

Didn't Kramnik start his whole anti-cheating campaign by accusing Hikaru of cheating because Kramnik doesn't understand the first thing about statistics? Amazing how far we've come.
Using standard Elo for win/lose/draw odds, Kramnik was correct in his assessment of the extreme rarity of a 45.5/46 followed soon after by another long string of wins. His statistics were correct, and it took some clever gymnastics by a "statistician" to claim this could easily happen. The idea used to get around the extreme rarity was that if Hikaru played 10,000 or more games then this was somewhat likely to occur, and as long as he played 10,000 or more games then this must have been the week for it to happen. It did sit with rarities like being struck by lightning, so Kramnik's statistics (not his, he asked a mathematician) were not wrong, but he did something similar to what Hikaru did with Hans and made it into an accusation. Now Hikaru's statistics were hilariously wrong when he brought on a "statistician" who gamed the system, making claims of 100% games that were clearly not 100%.
@@scottekoontz No, sorry, he didn't even do a statistical hypothesis test, probably because he doesn't know what that is. Without that this is only, " so many wins in a row, oh I feel that's not right", and is 100% unscientific.
@@bleekcer We don't know what Kramik's math helper did because Kramnik wasn't relaying details. I wish both camps had included more details because selection of one parameter is the only issue that separates them. Neither camp used feelings, both have access to the same relatively simple stats math. In other words, both camps' math help (neither Hikaru nor Kramnik are mathematicians) surely did the exact same thing using the same math EXCEPT for the assumed win%. Elo win probability calculation is more sensitive at higher values and larger differences, so there it is. For one post a statistician assumed draw odds in the Hikaru win column which, without explanation, is simply gaming the system. If he had claimed his use of win% was an accepted result of known win/loss/draw percentages in blitz (fewer draws and more flags in favor of the stronger player) and showed work then OK. Maybe it was described, but I have not seen it. The starting point in the 55/55 streak with Elo averages of 3313 and 2953 the win prob is 80% making 55/55 improbable (need 750K trials to reach equally likely scenarios). The use of 92% makes a world of difference, and although I agree it is a better assumption than 80%, it is just another assumption without explanation. What odds must we give Hikaru for Elo 3313 vs 2953 to make such streaks likely within x trials? To more likely than not achieve 50/50, here are the number of trials/games that need to be played: At 80% win probability, 750,000 successive games (i.e., trials) are needed
@@scottekoontz Oh, you are very wrong, when you say that his statistics were correct. If you want to make a hypothesis about reality, then you have consider all the relevant factors in reality. Did those statisticians consider and include in their analysis the possibilities of someone being better against some other chess players with the same ELO as the others? Did they consider someone being drunk, having a bad day, tilting, and the according probabilities? Did they consider someone playing while doing sex, or having lost someone, etc? Did they even consider, that a current ELO is not always a perfect measure of strength differences in chess? I could go on and on. Kramnik deliberately forgets that it isn't computers playing against each other under laboratory circumstances. It's the very foundations of the (non-existent) analysis of the probabilities of this event happening here that represent the problem, not the (non-existent) calculations itself based on the insufficient, relevant factors.

That’s the worrisome issue. Why did people take his word from the beginning. Why are they digging their heels in even tho these accusations have no bearing in reality. We are seeing this same mentality everywhere.
Because the reality is that merchants of disinformation are always listened to by enough people who don't know any better. It doesn't matter what the topic is, the only way to combat it is to challenge it head-on and show why they're wrong or malicious.

Also if you don't understand how it has no impact (though I get why it's a problem) to have an engine running on an official speedrun series, your take is irrelevant. Still, the problem with Kramnik is how often he throws those accusations with lacunar justifications. He's not just saying Danya has used an engine in a speedrun and this needs to be addressed, he throws a general accusation and then has nothing but this to show for.
Hey, thanks for documenting and compiling all the date from this crazy drama, it's very usefull for people wanting to see all the drama and coments directly from the participants
The only valid criticism of Danya was using the engine for the speedrun but only without the context that it is a speedrun, specifically an education video, rather than something self-serving.
How is a speedrun, specifically, an education video? By definition, a speedrun is a challenge. You can try to be be educational while you are doing it, but that is not the role of a speedrun. He probably should definitely not be using an engine in a speedrun. There was a older GM who got in trouble for this as well. He was teaching a class in chess, and playing games, students would call out moves and he would tell them if they were good or not. Without him knowing, one of the students was using an engine, and he got flagged for cheating. Just because something is educational, doesn't mean it is not cheating.
I'm glad to hear Danya's explanation of it. Speed runs are not competetive chess, and while I don't think online chess should be taken seriously, its ridiculous to use what he does in speed runs as having any implications on his titled tuesday games.
@@RubixNinjaspeedrun is just a "cool" title. He mentioned often within videos that the goal is not to really speedrun chess but to show fundamentals in every ELO group.
can we watch the original video, he used the engine to look at a past position while up decisive material; kramnik behaves like he used it on the current position and needed the engine to beat a 1100 player when danya's looking at a different position to maximize its instructive value.
Kramnik is clearly off his rocker here, but I think I get it. Chess as a competitive game might be on the way out. It's too easy to cheat. Anyone could be cheating any time. Everyone is suspicious of everyone (slight exaggeration). There's no solution to the problem and it's just going to get worse. Same is true for many online games too, like the whole FPS genre is on rocky ground for the same reason.
He was once the best in the game (world champion) but chess evolved a lot past decade with engines, pluze rushs, etc and hes now just outdated and arrogant in terms of not acepting other players (even non super gms) being able to see what he wouldnt see in a board (both now or in his prime). Sum that with his ignorance in statistics plus his doubtful integrity and sanity and we get the procedure. PS.: Ofc its easy to cheat in chess (specilly online) and it does happens, but its not required cheating to be a GM, play good lines or get to high rating. You need to have probable cause to acusated other like him does.
Kramnik is beyond toxic, and the most absurd/saddest thing is that he believes he is doing the chess world a service with his witch hunts. It's incredibly poisonous and is punching down for a former world champion to behave like this.

@@sameergera Of course not. But fact is, he still had an active engine during game play. Simply not allowed. The idea that Danya would cheat in serious games is ludicrous though.
You're not taking into consideration what Danya is intending to do with the video... That's to make it educational, which he does a FANTASTIC job at. You think he would've or has ever had an engine open in a serious game? Danya's character is one of absolute integrity, you will never convince me otherwise. It's not a black and white issue. If you take all the facts and nuances into account, he did absolutely nothing wrong in that situation. If you look at that particular situation in a pragmatic manner, and leave the sanctimonious BS at the door, it was perfectly reasonable for him to use that moment as an opportunity for teaching.
@@gregorio87 Doesn't matter what you're doing when playing chess. Engines are never allowed (unless otherwise stated). Put yourself in Danya's shoes. A former world champion and someone he looked up to in his younger years is now going for his head. He simply cannot ignore it when all of this nonsense keeps piling up.
I've learned a ton from watching danyas speedruns. I imagine it's super helpful to new players... the problem with high level theory is that it only analyzes like the best responses for the 4 top moves in any specific opening... This is great when your opponents are choosing one of the 4 best moves that you have memorized all the responses to..... when you are in elo hell and trying to climb out...hardly anyone is choosing best moves in any situation. That's where the speedruns in specific elo are extremely helpful because the bad moves are not necessarily, obviously, bad moves... it really helps with learning how to punish bad moves and helps with the responses so common moves at lower elo.
Kramnik is like the partner who constantly checks your phone, suspicious you're talking to someone else, while they're the one being unfaithful. People tend to project their own behavior onto others. Which... is very interesting.
I was just thinking about it, that someone can make a compilation of Nepo and Kramnik looking to the side, because literally almost everyone does that while thinking.
the lesson for everyone watching. never let your accuser have authority over you. it will never cease. tell them to Eff right off, and if they keep insisting, get them for harassment or defamation. asking a question one time is fine and dandy. insisting and harassing and demanding arent a thing, unless you allow someone to do so to you.

the problem with the speedrun engine analysis is that it proves that he has the setup where he can play a game and make moves with an engine analyzing it in real time. that's a much deeper issue than simply "using an engine" as it calls into question every game that was ever played online.
Kramnik is infuriating. Why someone in his position would want to torch his own reputation is beyond me. Danya consulting the engine during the educational speedrun was a bit of a misstep (mainly for optics) but to somehow tie that into his normal matches and use that as evidence that he coudl be cheating is laughable.
Thing is, this never hapenned. ONCE he turned on the analysis at a pretty much +20 position, expecting his opponent to soon resign so he can instantly get into analyzing the game for the viewers. And he acknowledged it and apologised for it in the VERY NEXT speedrun video. He never opened an engine to analyze the position that was occuring at the moment to deduce the best move. Saying this was actual cheating is ridiculous

It’ll probably have the opposite effect. Help him keep constructing the narrative that he is being targeted and that the chess fanbase is stupid, etc… The problem with Kramnik is that it’ll always be a losing game.
An even better way to deal with such jokers like Kramnik would be for all the lower-elo players who play him (past and future) in any event to broadcast their victories or draws against Kramnik (since he is guaranteed to call them cheaters and report them whenever the result does not favour him), and send Kramnik a link of those glory moments as a reminder not to simply accuse other people of cheating. Imagine the superstar of Toiletgate trying to call anyone else a cheat. WTF.

I'm so impressed at how well Danya articulates himself even when he's being accused of very serious crimes which are completely ridiculous hallucinations by Kramnik.
Thanks for the upload. It’s sad to see that Danya essentially had to defend his integrity even though he’s a well established grandmaster and chess instructor. Also, just because he’s GM, doesn’t mean that moves are obvious and don’t necessitate the use of an engine in an amateur game post analysis. The moves he plays are still human. His speed runs are bar none the most informative out there. As someone who has followed his speed runs, I have seen several times where’s gotten himself into worse positions against “amateur” players and has had to work himself out of trouble. I put that in quotations because I don’t think Vlad realizes how strong some of these players really are and he discredits them as “weak” players. The theory and access to content such as Danya’s has exponentially increased the skills of modern chess players, so I’m not surprised in the slightest that he has played some good opponents. The only thing these accusations do is paint Kramnik as someone who is jealous that he doesn’t get the same attention or opportunities as someone such as Danya to conduct speed runs or gets sponsorships from top chess sites, or an ill-fated attempt to vindicate his own and Hans’ proven cheating.
The thing during the speed run was NOT cheating. it was violation of the rules, sure. But NOT cheating, because you SAID you were looking at the engine, you didn't want to cheat anybody.
Kramnik is nuts. Danya could beat an 1100 while falling down drunk and give away his Queen and still crush him without the engine. Danya is well, well known as an educational streamer. I have watched many. Insane to say it’s a pattern of cheating. It is beyond absurd. And the “just asking questions” is a b.s. cover. He’s accusing.
My advice to anyone being falsely accused: don't try to address the specifics of whatever they say you're doing. They're dragging you down to their level when you do that. The best approach is to brush it off as absurd with a laugh. Or to get very pissed off. Either way, don't let them bait you into a tit-for-tat.
That's so bloody uncalled-for by Kramnik. He believes he's doing something for a noble cause like anti-cheating but at this point he just defames people.
I mean you just have to read a single tweet like at 1:11 to know how much of a conspiracy theorist Kramnik is. Poor Danya, and all the others, for having to deal with these accusations. I wish Kramnik would just shut up. It was a great response from Danya I have to say.
Frankly, it's embarrassing that Daniel feels the need to go to such lengths to fight the modern troll that Kramnik is. To put it bluntly, Kramnik wanks once each time he accuses anyone, and twice when they respond. This guy has the mentality of a rat who enjoys mud-slinging and his calm demeanor while accusing others of lying and cheating is somewhat psychopathic. There are two things that should be done: Kramnik needs to be ostracized by the chess community and Daniel should accuse him of libel and sue him. He's a russian so they will never meet in a civilized country's court but the former might get him good.
Kramniks tunnel vision does go borderline psychopathic, of course he isnt one, hes a typical case of aspergers combined with a lot of paranoia amassed over the years, real psychopaths are usually quite jovial, always selfish and egotistical and they "literally dont care" because they dont have the capacity to. The sad thing is that every time Kramnik accuses someone of cheating when its clearly nonsense he is giving himself quite a lot of anxiety to deal with and it will eventually consume him into depression or even exposing a player as a cheat and then being told that player is himself
Danya, you are logical, well spoken, and empathetic in all of this. I haven’t felt the need to comment on this stuff before because I believed it to be so clear that Vlad has just lost his capacity for rational thought, but this is clearly not obvious for everyone. When Hikaru's editor started including engine evaluation in his videos, Vlad argued it was not edited, that Hikaru could see it during the games. How can people still take his sociopathic accusations serious?
Danya is such a standup guy. Excellent rebuttal! Kramnik is really just a pitiful old man at this point. His explanation about why it was okay, does not make it right. Even though he wasn't trying to hide it, because he thought it was okay, he was wrong. It's not okay to use an engine while you play games on the chess site. Even unrated, educational games. Daniel deserves to be sanctioned for this. I hate to say this, but Kramnik has a point.
I have not watched the video yet , but if someone is playing unrated chess whats the problem with using engines. I know it may ruin experience for other person but beside that there is nothing wrong .

The voices in Kramnik's head tell him DeepBlue has evolved and its in the walls... Its coming for us Gary! WAKE UP, we need to initiate the Procedure!
I think ben was talking about eric hansen there iirc. unless he said the same about both
@@ceelar But he had an engine running?
Exactly.

No one tops John Bartholemew, but yeah Danya is right there.
Didn't Kramnik start his whole anti-cheating campaign by accusing Hikaru of cheating because Kramnik doesn't understand the first thing about statistics? Amazing how far we've come.
@@notsocrazy2426 Not sure why he did so but yeah that's how he did so.
To more likely than not achieve 50/50, here are the number of trials/games that need to be played:
At 80% win probability, 750,000 successive games (i.e., trials) are needed

Yeah but dont all of those accounts refund all of the elo at the end? Id get it if it was taking elo from people
How is a speedrun, specifically, an education video?

Kramnik's intelligence and sanity has come into question.
Indeed. We are not claiming anything, we are just questioning
Don't forget integrity.
he is going down the fisher road

Man, honestly props to Kramnik for making one of the most boring sports into a circus. Truly one of a character
It is not boring for anyone with half a brain or anyone to root for . Blitz chess is super exciting . Far more than most sports

Pathetic is the most appropriate word i could give to Kramnik. How far he has fallen.
pathetic for what? showing clear evidence of danya cheating?
Yep, it is pathetic, or deliberately malicious. Difficult to say.
@@nicolatomasi8221 Spoken like you haven't watched the video lmao. If Kramnik managed to convince you, you're extremely gullible
@@dangallagher6176 are you sure im the gullible? i honestly think its you who believes in "justice" voice and excuses after proofs of him checking engine mid game. You're just easy to manipulate that's all
@@nicolatomasi8221 Yes I'm 100% sure you are gullible. If you took the time to investigate further, you would realise he is analysing past moves in the game with the engine, not using it to provide him with moves for the live game. Is it against the rules? Technically, yes. But is it cheating? No.
the problem with the speedrun engine analysis is that it proves that he has the setup where he can play a game and make moves with an engine analyzing it in real time. that's a much deeper issue than simply "using an engine" as it calls into question every game that was ever played online.
He is using an engine while playing. That is called cheating.
@@davidfrommert8517 You can dislike it fine but it has nothing to do with his other games.

We need someone to start accusing Kramnik of cheating, pronto. Its about time.
I agree
No, do not stoop down to his level. The best you can do is call him out on his bullshit.
It’ll probably have the opposite effect. Help him keep constructing the narrative that he is being targeted and that the chess fanbase is stupid, etc… The problem with Kramnik is that it’ll always be a losing game.
@@eclipse1161 Quite plausible. Lose lose scenario
WTF.

The fact that Danny is FORCED by Kramnik to prove that he is innocent. I wouldn't even bother and say "Kramnik GFY"
But he admits that he is guilty of violating the rules. He is running an engine while playing, at least sometimes. The fact HE does not think this is wrong makes it even more problematic.

Which is exactly what Hikaru did. One of the greatest quotes of all time I have to say:)
Having an engine open during a game is never a good look. It not only is against rules it shows you have the capacity to cheat. I play online and I do not have this setup nor do I know how to set it up. I don't think Daniel is a cheat but this is a really naive situation to get into
Sounds a lot like Kramnik's been given KGB/FSB training. This is all familiar techniques with all the "just asking questions", gaslighting, etc. Seems a lot like Kramik's got an assignment to sow discord by his mafia state.
Exactly.
People think Kramnik has lost his mind but in reality he's just using the age old Russian propaganda by sowing the seeds of doubt and mistrust against the West.
He's a Russian spy and should be treated as such. There is a picture somewhere on the internet with him and Putin which says it all.

"Saving private Danya"!! really. Kramnik is crazy.
I'm glad Danya is so well spoken, allowing him to point out the ridiculousness of Kramniks claims. Even though it's obvious to many, it still makes me feel sorry for people who wouldn't be capable of defending themselves this well.
The only thing these accusations do is paint Kramnik as someone who is jealous that he doesn’t get the same attention or opportunities as someone such as Danya to conduct speed runs or gets sponsorships from top chess sites, or an ill-fated attempt to vindicate his own and Hans’ proven cheating.
all that should be reply to any Kramnik's acusation has been said by GM Nakamura already: "shut up crazy man you dont know what your talkim about".
Danya is the best chess teacher and commentator. Majority of my concepts i learned via his speedruns. Carry on Danya more power to you.

And the “just asking questions” is a b.s. cover. He’s accusing.
when did all of this happen?
Last 3 days....
Danyas response was today, but Kramnik has been hounding him for a month+ now
The stream when Danya addressed all of this happened ~18 hours ago.
the fact that danya has to explain how monitors work, and how chess players look around while playing is insane to me 😭
My advice to anyone being falsely accused: don't try to address the specifics of whatever they say you're doing. They're dragging you down to their level when you do that. The best approach is to brush it off as absurd with a laugh. Or to get very pissed off. Either way, don't let them bait you into a tit-for-tat.
This background music makes me feel like im watching sidemen among us
That's so bloody uncalled-for by Kramnik.
Great edit, very clear that danya is using an engine
Kramnik and Niemann are the biggest clowns in the chess scene... perfect match 🤡
Danya, you are logical, well spoken, and empathetic in all of this. I haven’t felt the need to comment on this stuff before because I believed it to be so clear that Vlad has just lost his capacity for rational thought, but this is clearly not obvious for everyone. I must write this now to emphasise that the vast majority of us support you, try not to let the troglodytes take up too much head space.
Kramnik must know how many crazies will go harassing Danya when he "asks questions". Is he doing that on purpose? Just asking questions.
When Hikaru's editor started including engine evaluation in his videos, Vlad argued it was not edited, that Hikaru could see it during the games. How can people still take his sociopathic accusations serious?
I think Kramnik is just jealous. In his time he had to go to toilet for cheating. Little bit of projection going on here, Mr. Kramnik?
Back in my day we had to eat laxatives and use a secret pager from the KGB to cheat! kids these days just have to look to the left

I was 100% on Daniel's side before watching this video. But Daniel using an engine while playing, which he freely admits he did, IS cheating.
