I think he should just farm views on this like crazy. I mean there is no way to disprove accusations like this (well-known from e.g. cycling - whatever you say in your defense will only make people more determined in their prior belief), so he might as well just gain something from it

When you watch "Kramnik calling people cheaters" videos all day it's easy to forget that to an everyday person, the story is that "the 8 time world champion called a random GM a cheater." which many people would probably just believe at face value. Personally, I have seen enough of Danya's personality to know that he is genuinely very hurt at the negative reactions he's gotten.

It was stated casually long ago by Ben Finegold that if Danya wanted to, he could have heavily contended with the Super GMs but instead chose the path of school at Stanford. Kramnik lives without an ounce of respect for what Danya has accomplished; Maybe because he only gives credit to those who dedicated their entire life to being a super GM and resents the fact that someone can be that talented. Maybe the voices in his head are telling him. Maybe he’s been living under a rock and has not seen all of the great things Danya has done for the game of chess. Kramnik is a child in an adults body, the only developed neural pathways dedicated to chess. Conversely, Danya was an adult at a young age, writing books and dedicating time to other interests. This is why it’s important to expand your world and be curious. Be a Danya, not a Kramnik. I don’t care about how many world championships you have, I care about how you treat others and how you grow the game and others. Danya shouldn’t even have to acknowledge the allegations because they are absurd. Let’s move on and stop giving someone a platform who just tries tirelessly to bring others down because he’s a narcissistic man baby.

I think Hikaru, despite not explaining it very well, hit the nail on the head. Kramnik just does not understand how modern times work. To him, moving pieces fast is black magic, he can't fathom people's ability with a mouse. He can't fathom that good chess players nowadays who play fast time controls are freaking wizards. In his head, as a former world champion, if he can't play that way no one should be able to. He can't wrap his head around streaming and playing, having more than one monitor, looking at chat. None of that exists to him, so, in the end, it's all witchcraft. Thats without saying that there are a bunch of young guys who play thousands of games online, and may have no inclination towards playing OTB. So yes a 2100 FIDE may be stronger than that in the confort of his/her home. Cheating does exist, and online it's a real problem, but in his case, despite being a legend of the game, he's just old, past his prime and butthurt

Using standard Elo for win/lose/draw odds, Kramnik was correct in his assessment of the extreme rarity of a 45.5/46 followed soon after by another long string of wins. His statistics were correct, and it took some clever gymnastics by a "statistician" to claim this could easily happen.
The idea used to get around the extreme rarity was that if Hikaru played 10,000 or more games then this was somewhat likely to occur, and as long as he played 10,000 or more games then this must have been the week for it to happen. It did sit with rarities like being struck by lightning, so Kramnik's statistics (not his, he asked a mathematician) were not wrong, but he did something similar to what Hikaru did with Hans and made it into an accusation.
Now Hikaru's statistics were hilariously wrong when he brought on a "statistician" who gamed the system, making claims of 100% games that were clearly not 100%.

@@bleekcer We don't know what Kramik's math helper did because Kramnik wasn't relaying details. I wish both camps had included more details because selection of one parameter is the only issue that separates them. Neither camp used feelings, both have access to the same relatively simple stats math.
In other words, both camps' math help (neither Hikaru nor Kramnik are mathematicians) surely did the exact same thing using the same math EXCEPT for the assumed win%. Elo win probability calculation is more sensitive at higher values and larger differences, so there it is.
For one post a statistician assumed draw odds in the Hikaru win column which, without explanation, is simply gaming the system. If he had claimed his use of win% was an accepted result of known win/loss/draw percentages in blitz (fewer draws and more flags in favor of the stronger player) and showed work then OK. Maybe it was described, but I have not seen it.
The starting point in the 55/55 streak with Elo averages of 3313 and 2953 the win prob is 80% making 55/55 improbable (need 750K trials to reach equally likely scenarios). The use of 92% makes a world of difference, and although I agree it is a better assumption than 80%, it is just another assumption without explanation.
What odds must we give Hikaru for Elo 3313 vs 2953 to make such streaks likely within x trials? To more likely than not achieve 50/50, here are the number of trials/games that need to be played:
At 80% win probability, 750,000 successive games (i.e., trials) are needed

@@scottekoontz Oh, you are very wrong, when you say that his statistics were correct. If you want to make a hypothesis about reality, then you have consider all the relevant factors in reality. Did those statisticians consider and include in their analysis the possibilities of someone being better against some other chess players with the same ELO as the others? Did they consider someone being drunk, having a bad day, tilting, and the according probabilities? Did they consider someone playing while doing sex, or having lost someone, etc? Did they even consider, that a current ELO is not always a perfect measure of strength differences in chess? I could go on and on. Kramnik deliberately forgets that it isn't computers playing against each other under laboratory circumstances. It's the very foundations of the (non-existent) analysis of the probabilities of this event happening here that represent the problem, not the (non-existent) calculations itself based on the insufficient, relevant factors.

How is a speedrun, specifically, an education video? By definition, a speedrun is a challenge. You can try to be be educational while you are doing it, but that is not the role of a speedrun. He probably should definitely not be using an engine in a speedrun. There was a older GM who got in trouble for this as well. He was teaching a class in chess, and playing games, students would call out moves and he would tell them if they were good or not. Without him knowing, one of the students was using an engine, and he got flagged for cheating. Just because something is educational, doesn't mean it is not cheating.

I've learned a ton from watching danyas speedruns. I imagine it's super helpful to new players... the problem with high level theory is that it only analyzes like the best responses for the 4 top moves in any specific opening... This is great when your opponents are choosing one of the 4 best moves that you have memorized all the responses to..... when you are in elo hell and trying to climb out...hardly anyone is choosing best moves in any situation. That's where the speedruns in specific elo are extremely helpful because the bad moves are not necessarily, obviously, bad moves... it really helps with learning how to punish bad moves and helps with the responses so common moves at lower elo.

Thanks for the upload. It’s sad to see that Danya essentially had to defend his integrity even though he’s a well established grandmaster and chess instructor. Also, just because he’s GM, doesn’t mean that moves are obvious and don’t necessitate the use of an engine in an amateur game post analysis. The moves he plays are still human. His speed runs are bar none the most informative out there. As someone who has followed his speed runs, I have seen several times where’s gotten himself into worse positions against “amateur” players and has had to work himself out of trouble. I put that in quotations because I don’t think Vlad realizes how strong some of these players really are and he discredits them as “weak” players. The theory and access to content such as Danya’s has exponentially increased the skills of modern chess players, so I’m not surprised in the slightest that he has played some good opponents. The only thing these accusations do is paint Kramnik as someone who is jealous that he doesn’t get the same attention or opportunities as someone such as Danya to conduct speed runs or gets sponsorships from top chess sites, or an ill-fated attempt to vindicate his own and Hans’ proven cheating.

Frankly, it's embarrassing that Daniel feels the need to go to such lengths to fight the modern troll that Kramnik is. To put it bluntly, Kramnik wanks once each time he accuses anyone, and twice when they respond. This guy has the mentality of a rat who enjoys mud-slinging and his calm demeanor while accusing others of lying and cheating is somewhat psychopathic.
There are two things that should be done: Kramnik needs to be ostracized by the chess community and Daniel should accuse him of libel and sue him. He's a russian so they will never meet in a civilized country's court but the former might get him good.

Kramniks tunnel vision does go borderline psychopathic, of course he isnt one, hes a typical case of aspergers combined with a lot of paranoia amassed over the years, real psychopaths are usually quite jovial, always selfish and egotistical and they "literally dont care" because they dont have the capacity to.
The sad thing is that every time Kramnik accuses someone of cheating when its clearly nonsense he is giving himself quite a lot of anxiety to deal with and it will eventually consume him into depression or even exposing a player as a cheat and then being told that player is himself
