      @@paulk4204the qualification you’re talking about is for the 2005 championship *tournament*, which was practically a World Cup in which he didn’t even finish in the top 8, forget joining the other 4 challengers in the championship tournament. Not to say it’s not an impressive feat, it’s definitely great! Also, he did make it in a much more righteous way through the 2007 World Cup where he reached the semifinals. He was 16 years 5 months at the time. Even then, he didn’t qualify for the “challenger match”. He only reached the penultimate stage for the 2012 championship where he declined to take part. Although by this time, he was arguably the main contender to take the throne from Anand, which he did, in a an almost anti-climactic way in 2013.

    Lazavik is no joke. He’s just starting to show his best abilities. I’ve watched him over the years. If he can continue to hone his skills, he will be in the top 10 pretty soon. He’s closer already . I believe he’s 15 or 16th currently. This past year he’s had the opportunity to play some very illustrious talent. This will definitely help his game. But let’s not get crazy with the Magnus comments. Magnus is still the best to ever play. It’s not even a debate.

    • @dexio8601
      @dexio8601 17 днів тому

      Why not even a debate? Dude has double the amount of losses of Kasparov. 14% vs 7%.
      Carlsen is struggling with a 2500 here, Kasparov beat 4 x 2600 GMs in a classical simul 7-1!!😊

    • @89Madridista
      @89Madridista 17 днів тому

      @@dexio8601 while you could be right about the stats and i think Kaspárov was better player than Carlsen, i think saying he was struggling against a 2500 is not fair. This 2500 is maybe already an underrated young guy whose level of play is already 2700 in rapid chess time control or maybe very close to 2700 (and in a good day and in specific games he could play like a 2800 or even more than 2900 level). Is like when Magnus played Kasparov and drew a game against him at the age of 13, Magnus was around 2500 already but he could show a level of 2600 and in some games even 2700 level of play (in a good day maybe more than 2800) so yes, i agree that Carlsen is not better than Kaspárov (admited by Carlsen himself) but not because Carlsen lost a game against this player

    • @dexio8601
      @dexio8601 17 днів тому

      @89Madridista I know mate I was joking a bit, obviously Carlsen crushes 2500s most of the time. I'm a massive fan of Kasparov, Carlsen is great too, I hold them both at the same level, Garry had better games, better on th eye, held the title 15 years and was world number 1...20 years. But he didn't play as often as Carlsen, he has like 300 games less, but he was a monster.
      Carlsen is more well rounded, and exceptional with endgame, Kasparov was a killer with tactics and initiative and opening prep.

    I admire Magnus's recent approach, where he starts a tournament appearing vulnerable, giving others a glimmer of hope, only to ultimately emerge as the champion. I believe this championship will be no exception to that pattern.
