  • Well, this didn’t go exactly as planned. I definitely encountered some issues when trying to remove the heads from this engine. So many that idk, maybe it should come out after all? What yall think? Leave it in and keep trucking or pull it and rebuild? Let me know and thanks for watching as always!

    Dont let the dirt and grime shake ya. Its a 30+ yr old engine. Take your time( as u are👍🏾) amd hit step by step. Clean and replace as needed. I would like to suggest replacing your cracked, fried, 30yr old wiring harness. I did when I built.mine. It will prevent you from chasing electrical gremlins down the road. Might be a bit pricey, 10:10 but a worthwhile investment...Weve got ur back bruh💪🏾🙏🏾 .

    the cool thing about project cars is that you transition from every single thing being a daunting new experience into a fox body guy that is completely familiar with every part of the entire car. like every other step, if you have never removed the engine it is a daunting task.eventually it will be a series of steps like anything else.

    You’re doing good, anybody that pulls an older car apart for the first time is gonna take a lot of time, rusty/dirty bolts that been on for 30 years is always a bitch. Like the rest of us do…fight thru it and get it done… without upsetting the neighbors with loud cusing. lol. I’d pull the motor plus, if those are shorty headers, you could pull motor with headers attached and fight with the bolts on an engine stand. Regasket the entire motor and scub and paint the engine bay. That’s what I did…not to bad of a job. Oh, once you start buying parts and some of them don’t fit or work out of the box, that’s been common lately with the Chinese stuff… it’s gotten me a few times this year. Hope you stick with it, it’s worth it at the end….

    If you have the right equipment, pull that engine out! Your back will thank you later! Plus it'll be waaayyyy easier to get those header bolts out. What i recommend is if you can do at least 1/8 turn of loosening the bolt on the header, do that, spray PB Blaster or WD40 and let it sit overnight. Then they will loosen with ease that next morning. Overall, get that engine out and the engine breakdown will be so much easier for you. Good luck bro and look forward to next vid! 🤝

    glad you left the ac connected bro. ive been a mechanic for 10 years and thats what i would recommend. i pulled my motor and transmission without disconnecting the ac. saves money and the environment lol. on if you should pull the engine or not.... its not hard you can take care of all the leaks and other problems better with the engine out but just know its going to prolong the time until you get it back on the road. i have my engine out. i pulled the heads off and found one of my cylinders were scored up pretty bad. so i got another block but i have alot of other things i can work on in the mean time. the skills and know how will come with time. ill follow your progress bro all the best.

    You could leave it in the car and still replace all your gaskets and seals but either way. Transmission has to be separated from engine to put in a new rear seal and pilot bearing if stick shift. If you have an engine hoist and the tools, I would pull the engine and put it on an engine stand... Keep grinding bro. You got this!

    • @wheeldmedia
      @wheeldmedia  2 місяці тому

When I had done my oil pump gears and Crank sprocket upgrade on my 2016 mustang GT the timing jumped on the driver side by 1-3 teeth/tooth.... this happened to me multiple times! I had to take my procharger off, the intercooler, etc... basically the whole front end of the car off to re time it and this was during the muddle of July which is hot for us up here in ohio and I didn't have a garage to work in... straight sun beaming on me for 8-10 hours most days for 3 weeks 😢 but gahdamnit! My shit running real good!😂

    Awesome video brother!!! 💪🏼 if it was me I would leave the engine unless the oil pan is leaking bad. As far as the lifters, you can slide them up and out without pulling the heads. I’ve got it a few times. It’s a tight fit but it can be done. Keep at it brother!

    • @wheeldmedia
      @wheeldmedia  2 місяці тому +1

      Unfortunately the oil pan is also covered in gunk too. I forgot to add the clip lol. But before I pull the engine, I’m gonna clean everything up first I think, so I can get a better view of what the issues could be. I’ve tried to slide the front most lifter in but I just can get it past the head. I got the old one out fairly easily tho. So, unless I bought the wrong lifters, I’ll have to pull the head. I’m definitely keeping it going tho!

    Everything can be done with motor in the car ... just uncomfortable and maybe more work ...
    If you have a picker . Id just go on and pull the motor and do it all at once
    With replacement parts less is more .
    Unless you get into racing it really .
    Again I say you pull the engine
    And get it all done

    Water pump
    Oil pump
    Freeze plugs

    Ok...Dude, calm down. The debris you see outside of engine...who cares, it don't matter. I see inside of lifter valley. It is VERY clean. That is what you worry about. Those rocker arms are Crane rocker arms...if they have the Ford part# on them, they are pretty valuable. Even used, they bring 200$ or more. If no Ford part #, they are just a common part.
    One other thing for you brother...when working on an engine...it isn't an egg shell, get after it! You're not gonna break it, it isn't a baby, if you gotta get aggresive, you can...If unsure, put up a vid, we'll help you out.
    Header bolts on a 302 can be a PITA! Ya gotta have the tools for the job. Some can come off with ratchet and socket, others, open end wrench, some with the box end of the wrench. They can be a pain, but they're pretty easy to get out with the right tools,

      The seller told me it was an engine out of a 95 cobra. Didn’t really know if I thought it was true. The valve covers say cobra, but that don’t mean much I’d guess. Thanks for the info! And the advice lol. I’ve definitely been wondering about the rocker arms. I had a friend of mine say he didn’t know much about them and hadn’t seen them before on other foxes. I’ll do some more research on those. I’m definitely still gonna get after it though! I’m enjoying it all!

      @@wheeldmedia Those are aftermarket rocker arms and I'm 99% sure those are gt40 head (came on 93-95 cobra head) or 96 late 97 ford explorer engines. One way of seeing if they're gt40 cobra head is the casting number and the bars on the side of the head if they have 3 bars it means they're gt40 head and 4 bars means they're gt40p heads (almost the same as gt 40 but the plug angle is different and some other things)
