Dang, sorry to hear it Sherwood . Always stinks losing a good guy. I can say this though. When I was at TST I was having a beer with one of your employees (won't say who) and first thing I asked him was "how is Sherwood to work for?" I am going to tell you right now, he had nothing but good things to say. You weren't around or in sight and he did nothing but tell me how good it is to work for you and the respect he has for you. I could tell he was being genuine. Keep being the great boss, mentor and trainer that you are Sherwood! Bosses/people like you are hard to come by.

How cool, in about a month I will be a certified mechanic for 40 years here in California. I started at a shop called Precision Z in Canoga Park, the owner Ed was great if you followed his guide. To this day I owe him for allowing me to provide for my wife and I with a skill that is always in demand. Thank you Ed for taking a chance on me.

Nice to see mechanics getting the appreciation they deserve! Been a mechanic for over 20 years and barely got any appreciation from the upper management. All my praise came from my peers and that seemed to be good enough to keep me going! Good luck!

Amen brother. I've done the franchise/dealership. Thought it was the best money, but I found a home at a mom and pop shop for 17 years. A place where I had a name and not just a number. I own the shop now. Independent shops are the way to go.

Ive always wondered why techs go to start a tool truck. After 25 years of being a tech i have 25 years to go. I would love to work for a company like royalty auto. I have nothing but nice things to say about you all. Im a strong believer in being the best and helping others learn. I like your shop.

The 2008 depression i saw many tool trucks go out of business, Matco dealer sold everything for 2.00 to 20.00 and cleaned his truck in 3 days!his wife would come to the dealer twice a week to collect on tool truck accounts also, good luck.

Im so glad he didn't die or something from the way you started the video! Ok so he's a good or great tech that started out in your shop and has excelled and now ready to move on to better himself which is trully awesome! I just hate when a video starts out and unfortunately begin to expect that a good tech got hurt or passed on from something tragic, good video regardless of what sound like :)

That's too bad. One thing I learned from being a tech in that field for over 12 years is, hang to the good techs but at the same time it is very hard to do that. The dealership I worked for had a lot of employee turnover but not in the tech positions. Mostly sales and parts people. Just from watching some of your videos, I can tell Sherwood that you are a great guy to work for and wants the employees to succeed. Good luck on your search for a new tech.

This wasn’t a financial decision for him. There’s a lot more to it than was addressed in the video. He lives over an hour because he moved to be closer to his family. That’s a long drive every day and he recently got married and will be having his first child. Over 2 hours on the road every day for work is a lot. We understand why he made the decision he did. Hopefully that helps a bit.

    • @scottw1287

@@theroyaltyautoservice I’ve been a mechanic for over 20 years. I’ve travelled over 2 hours to and from work. This industry is dying honestly!. He has a better chance making a better living ‘’financially’’ for his family as a snap on guy. Even when I started, I had my shop Forman and team leader (who became a snap on guy!!) in the early 2000’s, tell me to ‘’GET OUT AS FAST AS I CAN’’, of course I didn’t listen, I WISH I DID, I just got out of school, I was going to make ‘’100k a year ‘’ like he did. Man did the industry change after I watched him leave. You can say whatever you want, but the decisions are ALWAYS ABOUT FINANCIALS !!!. That kid, that is part of your family wants to make ALL the money, and as much as he can to support HIS family and with the greed of everyone nowadays, labor rates keep going up and up, but the laborers keep staying the same wage. If you don’t own the business! You will never get anywhere in life. I wish I made a different decision in college and career path.
