'What billy said, THIS song was in 1994. It just came with the re-release of the same album in 1998. All said and done, this song coming out in 1994 is fucking mind blowing.
This album is a masterpiece as far as Im concerned. I never get tired of it no matter how much i listen to it. I wish they would have stuck with this technical/progressive thrash style. As much as I used to like it, it's hard for me to go back to modern Meshuggah knowing that this exists.
I can't believe these motherfuckers have been around since the 80's. This is heavy for days even by today's standard. We've got shit like deathcore and beatdown setting the bar for heavines for the past decade or two, then there's these guys doing the same shit 20 years before its time. Honestly, I feel like modern metal would be much different if they never existed. There's always that constant desire a lot of musicians have to be heavier than the rest, we would have gotten around to what we have today eventualy, but we skipped a couple of decades because of these dudes.
@Megadeth916 Where did i say anything about Pantera? I take as much Meshuggah pride as anyone, i've seen them live four times, i own all their records and i've even met Fredrik Thordendal. A little bit of an over-reaction on your part.
Avrian O'Brien They do not sound like Pantera in anyway shape or form, period. Phil Anselmos voice is so much deeper than Jen Kidmans voice. Their instrumental ideas are way too different. I love both bands but they DO NOT SOUND THE SAME.
This probably has bin mentioned before in this comment section, but "Humiliative" is not on the original "Contradiction Collapse". It first appeared as Opener of the 94 EP "None" - 4 Songs of "None" were then added to the re-release of "Contradiction Collapse" in 98. You can clearly hear the 3 Year Gap to the Rest of the Album - "None" already sounded a lot like Destroy Erase Imrove.
Damn, they must have been using an Ibanez universe on this track cause this is heavy af! They came out roughly around 1990 anyway before they released this in 91, so they were probably one of the first besides Korn to use a 7 string.
As a musician,I first heard these guys in the mid 90's.....HOLY SHIT !!!!! was all I could come up with as a response. The urge to emulate was uncontrollable.Going from Pantera timing signatures to Meshuggah's poly's was fucking incredible and neccesary as a guitarist . DD To this day
@substatic10 Contradictions callapse and none were available on the same disc, wiith Contradictions callapse as the main sleeve and none just had a little square in the corner, that may be why the poster used this cover.
Crunchy, groovy and fucking bare bone raw ass talent. first time i heard these guys they became my number 1 favorite band and one day when i open my restraunt i WILL be playing meshuggah in my fucking restraunt every other goddamn song.
THIS... song..IS THE BEGINNING OF ALL DJENT... This is the song that made me love ~ HEAVY HARD SICK OFFTIME SHIT!!!!! ....I WAS "17" at that time ...now im "34" thank you Meshuggah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@FreeByrd007 I think that on the album before Meshuggah they started playing 8 strings and from tuning A# they switched to dropped F...or sth like that, lol.
The fact you're using a name such as LittleEmoBoy001 pretty much tells us whether or not to listen to you when it comes to music. This album is awesome
I just discovered Meshuggah a few months ago. Now, every time I hear a new Meshuggah song, it's awesome, but at the same time, terrible. It's terrible because my MP3 player is full, and I have to keep deleting music to fit in more Meshuggah.
The riff on 4:31, which goes till the end, reminds me of a part from " I ". I am almost sure that it's even the same notes (edit: yeah, the notes are of the same pitch and kinda similar rhythm) Edit2: the riff on 7:08 on " I "
It is quite easy to hear some of Meshuggah's early influences on their first release, "Psykisk Testbild" from 1989. (The title translates to something like "Psychological Test-Picture".) I would mention Metallica as a major influence. The music of this EP is simpler and more straight-forward" than their more recent material, but some of their more progressive elements are present in the form of time-changes and polyrhythmics, and Fredrik Thordendal's lead playing stands out.
LOL @ all the Pantera and Metaillica comments. Metallica has sucked since 1991 and Pantera is now whatever. I am a fan of both but recognize the superior firepower laid down by Meshuggah. Respect
@JeffreyMulac8 Metallicas 80's albums are the most influencial metal albums of all time, they probably influenced meshuggah to play as well as countless other bands, they were the first to take metal to a new direction, not to mention they didnt have the production technuiqes availiable in the 80's like bands do now. the first true heavy band will never be the most extreme lol.
Yup, last album Jens played rhythm guitar on, And as for Hetfield they WERE influenced by Metallica and were pretty thrashy in these days. Man how they have changed
This album came out in 1991. Just let that sink in. Tool hadn't even put out Undertow yet.
the song itself was actually 1994
'What billy said, THIS song was in 1994. It just came with the re-release of the same album in 1998.
All said and done, this song coming out in 1994 is fucking mind blowing.
Still, Meshuggah is and always has been lightyears ahead of their time.
I know man... Certified geniuses for many years now. Can't beat the feeling you get when you first listen to these guys.
i don't know man. Tool and Meshuggah are both my favorite bands. i don't think could choose one over the other
insanely far ahead of its time
like marty mc fly came back with his tape recorder in your sleep and enlightened your whole childhood ahead of its time
I could listen to that intro groove for years on end and never get bored.
I want an infinite loop of the intro
And also of the final part :-)
what about the whole song? :D
I will do it
@@Mantus01102005 please do it
@@24Shredder you really want it ?
Groovy as fuck.
crazy how much their style has changed... this track is dope.
Combine James hetfields voice with Phil anselmos = Jens Kidman
lol909ism in this era yeah
100% this
Kinda sounds like the singer from Lamb of God
I hear a little bit of Rob Zombie in there
4:32 riff....life changer...that definitive tipping point......
4:31 This is where the real Meshuggah begins.

Kinda sounds like the motif at 7:08 of their song " I "
Listen to the ride cymbal from 4:31 to the end. Never breaks 4/4... Talent.
Drummer is so clever alongside these genius rhythm guitarists
1:51 - Oh, HEAVY.
Elephant walk riff.
I like that ! :-)

That guitar tone. Just, wow... industrial, modern, timeless really. So fucking awesome.
24 year old song??? Still holds up today just fine, Shuggah so far ahead its ridiculous.
this is one of the easiest songs on guitar by meshuggah, WHICH IS ALSO HARD AS HELL
Have you learned it yet? Ive got it down now.
@@Edwin-nh8gk It's been 11 years this dude can probably shred like Fredrik Thordendal by now lol.
@@rustyshackleford9452 I know, hence me commenting after 10 years. The comment was to be taken as humor
4:45 now there's the meshuggah I know! this is 1991?!?!?

My band used to blow people's minds in highschool playing this song. I was 15, i played guitar. Good times...
4:32 I think I found a new favorite Meshuggah riff
My favourite meshuggah riff will always be the intro to dancers to a discordant system
Meshuggah started djenting in 1994 🤯
Meshuggah, At The Gates, Candiria, Fear Factory are bands wayyyy ahead of their time Killin it in the 1990s
Saw this live in 2023
this song is not from Contradictions Collapse but it's from None EP
come out in the re-release

That's riff at 4:30 and the timing
DangerousDan yeah bro it’s fucking tasty isn’t it
that bass turns my stomach into a chaotic ocean !
Their riff patterns are bad ass
Sounds a bit like some Pantera, their early sound is interesting ^^
Yeah also hear alot of Metallica
You mean Pantera sounded like Meshuggah

None of you clearly listen to Pantera whatsoever 😆

The drumming in this son is freaking insane
For a second there, I thought the album cover was the loading screen for Red Alert 2 until I realized there were no Kirov airships around.
i've always thought the soundtrack from RA2 "Blow it Up" sounds like Rage Against the Machine
This probably has bin mentioned before in this comment section, but "Humiliative" is not on the original "Contradiction Collapse".

The outro is djent as heck
Messhugah back then was insane especially chaosphere this is definitely the best contradictions collapse song
Damn, they must have been using an Ibanez universe on this track cause this is heavy af! They came out roughly around 1990 anyway before they released this in 91, so they were probably one of the first besides Korn to use a 7 string.
Meshuggah made you wanna punch everyone in arms reach back then in a way they just dont do anymore
nobody talking about 4:04 though! what a riff!
Really sinister sounding part
I love meshuggah :D
This song is unbeleivable. These guys are another dimension of existence. Alien technology.
Some thrashend Djent, nice
+dbgrfdg no, just no.
yes!!
+SkullCrusher An elitist wouldn't call this Djent though.
I consider it more thrash than djent
+dbgrfdg Back then (1991) nobody talked about DJent, just techno metal or so. LOL. They were real pioneers
It will bring a tear of joy to my eye when the statue of liberties crown falls into the ocean.
how goods the outro
My god they sounded great even then. These guys always were fantatic and only got better and better with each album.

So that's where pantera got their breakdowns...
This song was released in 94. By that point, Pantera had already released CFH, Vulgar and FBD.
Best beginning riff ever
@FreeByrd007 I think that on the album before Meshuggah they started playing 8 strings and from tuning A# they switched to dropped F...or sth like that, lol.
Look guys, meshuggah and pantera both rock. Why are we arguing about shit like this? Let's just listen to the music. Music is subjective
wow meshuggah has been crabcore before crabcore even existed
harddrugs are the bomb, especially when listening to meshuggah.
