Was originally waiting 10 -12 months from last December for my Cruiser Hybrid but received a phone call a few weeks later offering a shorter wait time if I wanted to upgrade to the Edge Hybrid as none were available for ordering at the time. This would have to be the only top spec medium suv in Australia that does not have a powered front passenger seat. Not even manual height adjustment. For around $58k d/a that is an absolute joke. Deal breaker for me.

Toyota's petrol AWD system offers superior traction to its hybrid AWD. If you get the hybrid, stay on-road. If you get the AWD RAV4 petrol, stay close to the road. If you go off-road, get a 4Runner or a Subaru.
I’ve had a Cruiser AWD Hybrid now for nearly 6 months and concur with the commentary regarding the driver alert and assistance systems. The school zone and speed voice alerts were disabled immediately (SO annoying), but to do so needed the help of the internet, as the handbook was near useless. I turned off the lane centering as it was clumsy, intrusive and also poor at picking up lane markings in brightly lit situations (e.g. road tunnels), wet roads or when the sun was low. That aside it’s a great car (I had a Tiguan 162TSi R-Line and 2 Outbacks before the RAV), it’s peppy, roomy, good chassis dynamics, and so far averaging 5.6l/100km (and I don’t spare the right foot at times). Yes there are certain things the Tiguan and Outbacks did better, but the RAV just has it nailed as a complete package.
My heart wanted the Tiguan 162TSI for its driving dynamics (haven't driven it - know this just from reviews and research) but VW's poor reliability and fuel economy made me go for the RAV4. I'm picking up the RAV4 Edge Hybrid AWD next week. Would you say it handles adequately well and provides driving fun compared to the Tiguan?
@@vinayshsureshram277 the Tiguan is unquestionably sportier and steers better with more feel and a tad less understeer. But that’s thanks to the dynamic dampers and 20” wheels largely, so it’s not a proper comparison really. The RAV is 90% so plenty go enough in my book. I think the Edge also gets 19” wheels so undoubtedly would be a touch sharper dynamically then the Cruiser on 18” wheels
@@JasonISF couldn’t say, haven’t driven either properly off-road. Gravel roads are as far as they’ve been taken, and there’s little between them. Maybe the Subaru is slightly better as the steering is a bit better IMO

My wife collects her AWD cruiser hybrid next week, it was ordered last November. Dealer said he was surprised it was coming so soon and thought I was because it is black on black. It is the 2022 model. She is fairly excited.
It is now at the dealers, will be collected Monday 17th of Feb. Total cost $55,000 on road, with towbar, ceramic paint coating ( which I have on another car and it is really good) upholstery protection and extra window tinting. I was able to negotiate a $2000 discount. Not sure about the upholstery protection and extra tinting, but the dealer talked my wife into them when I was not there.
I just couldn't live with that interior in 2022. I'm driving a 2013 car atm and this is barely better than that. Competitors have much more luxurious offerings for the price.
It is a beautiful car for those who like this type of design, I hope that this new model of ADVENTURE HIBRID arrives soon in Peru... so on long trips much more fuel would be saved, since in the current version it consumes a lot. Fraternal greetings from Lima Peru. Excellent video.

@@brokenSnake tbh, coming from a BMW which was packed with tech, most of it was useless. The 2022 RAV has all the tech someone would need and the less tech the less things to go wrong in the future. I do however wish Toyota upgraded the infotainment unit in the 2022 RAV. That I can’t excuse considering that they did upgrade it for other models.
Rear AEB and kick to open power tailgate was always in the 2019 Japanese market variant. Who knows why Australia didn’t use the same wiring harness to enable it is a major slap in the face to this market for people with the 2019 to 2021 models. This adventure is priced insanely high though.
Fitting a dealer tow bar on our brand new awd 2022 Cruiser eliminated the kick tailgate feature. Not happy! They chuck the whole loop wiring harness out!

The dealer assured me the passenger seat has height adjustment and I can see your website lists “Power Front Seat Passenger 8 Way” on the standard equipment list for this model and yet the vehicle you are reviewing clearly doesn’t. Any thoughts?
Why doesn't the Edge Hybrid come with panoramic sunroof option like it does in the States? You can only get it in the petrol version here.. Its also frustrating that the top model doesnt have all the features of the lower variants. Like why can't I get the Cruiser in 2 tone like the XSE if the Cruiser is a higher variant? Why does the Edge not get Cruiser specific features? What if I want them all? Just give me one ultimate variant and I'd be happy to pay for it accordingly!

Because Toyota gives a middle finger to customer feedback, ignores peer pressure from what their competitors offer - eg infotainment size and design, and ultimately prefer to rest on their laurels.
In my option, I like the edge look and the green colour, not sure why you want to pay more over the cruiser hybrid, same drive train and miss lots features that cruiser has.
I've heard this RAV4 has roof leaking problem, some Taiwan second hand car dealer posted a UA-cam video to prove this problem! You only need to search "rev4 roof leak" then you will find some interesting stuff.
One thing I’ll point out, you said all models from gxl and above have the electric tailgate. That’s incorrect, xse and up has the electric tailgate. Gx and gxl have the standard manual tailgate.
I bought the 2021 Akera Turbo was considering both - wanted the cx-5 and tbh I needed a car in a few days the RAV wasn’t an option for bed and I wasn’t going to pay $10k extra to get one with a few 1000 kms. Long story short I’m getting 22 RAV cruise hybrid awd as a work car so I’m in heaven. Although free fuel would be better for the 10.8l/ mazda. Mazda is way more plush and stylish inside. Toyota has improved something’s which was a negative for me before - power front passenger seat and now the are ventilated like the Akera.
Looking at a 2022 Cruiser Hybrid vs Edge Hybrid. $5k more for the Edge Hybrid…. So other than the trim differences what is that extra $5K getting me over the Cruiser?
At an average wait time now of 11-12 months for higher end variants, it's just not worth it. There'll be a new one ready to roll out by the time anyone gets their 2022 model!
I’m 5 months in to my order for my RAV4 Cruiser Hybrid, apparently another 5 months at least to go. After two years of test driving every SUV in class including the 3008 I decided the RAV was best overall. Still way short on the infotainment and interior but best overall.
I wonder how good the AWD system is. I live where roads are windy an when wet or icy benefits from all j4 wheels powered. Is this the case with the RAV? I assume no electric motivation at these times and not windy road speeds (60-70 km/h). Thoughts?
Does the Edge still have the off-road modes that it used to - mud sand rock etc, with downhill assist? Or is it just like the Cruiser now? Seems that the option of a panoramic sunroof was lost too, in moving to hybrid.for the Edge variant. It’s starting to look like the Edge is much closer to the Cruiser now, except for different front face, interior finishes/colours and the lack of passenger seat heigh adjustment. It does pick up ventilated seats but what else justifies the price difference?
Hi , I would like an option on the Curse speed to Automatically go to the Road speed Signage setting. Allso I'd like the seat to go lower so can acess entry sideways rather than backing in bending my head downwards to enter , look forward on the next Rav H . I ordered my cruiser in April, when I found out about the new model I called the dealer in September and explained that I was happy to wait for the 2022 model, they called me in late November and said my original order was ready, I said “no thanks”.so the wait continues, but I am happy, the new model looks great cooled front seats plus all the extra bits, it’s a no brainer.
@@billylid100 I went through a similar thing. The updates are definitely worth the extra wait. I wish they put in a speed limit function but oh well, can’t have it all. The digital rear view mirror looks pretty cool

While one of the same judges ( Nathan) did not like the 1.6 L turbo petrol in the Hyundai Tuscon ( kia and Tuscon share the same engine and powertrain ).

Great review. Not a fan of the CVT but doesn’t seem to be too bad in the RAV4. Interested in your preference in the lineup. I’m tossing up between Edge and Cruiser Hybrids but wait times are a factor.
This gen Toyota RAV4 got so many problems like roof water leak, gas tank issue, transmission issues and engine failure. Toyota dealership not fixing those problems under five years limited warranty. Toyota is not a reliable car brand anymore. Better Save your money for all new Honda CRV turbo or hybrid coming in 2023😊

The review camera on the review mirror sounds like a plus. I would be interested to know how often that back camera's lens gets clogged with grit and hence becomes a mite add on. In Canada especially in winter back ends get dirty fast. Anyone experience this possible negative? I do drive a VW Sportwagen which doesn't have this camera but does when backing out. This camera stays clean 90% of the time because it is hidden under the VW logo in on the back hatch and hence appears when this logo flips open. It works extremely well. Anedotally most of my friends who are going to buy a vehicle in the next few years will consider a hybrid in whichever brand if the initial cost isn't too high and in Canada if incentives are finally given to more of the country by the Feds AND THE DEALERS DON'T GOUGE THAT AMOUNT IN THEIR FAVOUR IN THE ASKING LIST PRICE! Shame on the dealers who do. l know supply and demand will dictate. It is a shame the supply in most brands is back logged. Waiting it out if one can is the way to go.
My wife bought a Rav4 Cruiser last year with a tan interior. The interior is 3 different colours and feels cheap for a car that cost just over 50k. The front seats are flat and un-suportive, the reverse camera resolution is so low it looks like your looking through a steam covered shower screen. The relatively low fuel consumption for a car of this size is the only thing it is genuinely great at. Everything else is just text book Toyota mediocrity.

Yes, very disappointing that EV and PHEV models get delayed to arrive in Australia. If Toyota had the RAV4 Prime (PHEV) available I would definitely considered it. Now I ordered a GX Hybrid as I don't need all the bells and whistles of the higher trims.
The Edge Hybrid loses the powered and height adjustable passenger seat and digital rear view mirror of the Cruiser but yet the cost of the car increases considerably. Basically paying more for less just so you can have a different front bumper, some slightly different wheel guards and some orange stitching inside. Makes the Edge hybrid a poor choice in comparison to the Cruiser which is actually the better car but cheaper. The Edge is also not compatible with the Nudge bar due to its front bumper design and it’s 1 inch larger wheels make it more difficult to find compatible all terrain tires if you are like me and want all terrain tires. For me I ordered the 2022 Cruiser Hybrid AWD. Also didn’t really like the orange stitching and orange dash highlights either when I test drove the Edge.
@@robertduclayan2298 ah ok. Wasn’t available on the Petrol variant so that’s a plus. Still, for a $7610 increase in price for basically cosmetics, a bumper that isn’t compatible with the nudge bar and the lack of the powered passenger seat, it’s quite a poor purchase in comparison to the Cruiser.
@@brokenSnake definitely not worth it. I forgot to mention that the Cruiser also gains real leather seats unlike the Edge which uses softex which is a synthetic leather. Really don’t understand where the price increase came from with the Edge considering that it has less features than the Cruiser.
@@brokenSnake you’re 100% correct. When I heard that Toyota was releasing the Edge in Hybrid form, I was very curious as to how they were going to retain the off road features you mentioned. It ended up having a driveline exactly the same as the standard Hybrids so basically it’s a pointless model as has increased in price, downgraded features and has lost what made it better for off-roading. Still, at least it will speed up the wait times a bit as before everyone was just getting the Cruiser. Now it’s a mix of both. Edit: the loss of the panoramic roof option was strange though.

I am in Victoria, the car was ordered in Wodonga, almost NSW.

5.9 L/100km is my average at 60000 km odo. Rav4 hybrid AWD is a great vehicle!

The Toyota rav4 hybrid even before the facelift was still extremly good but it seems like the facelift one has now made the car even better

In my option, I like the edge look and the green colour, not sure why you want to pay more over the cruiser hybrid, same drive train and miss lots features that cruiser has.

I've heard this RAV4 has roof leaking problem, some Taiwan second hand car dealer posted a UA-cam video to prove this problem! You only need to search "rev4 roof leak" then you will find some interesting stuff.
I ordered my Hybrid GXL in July, 2021. Still don’t have it, but I’m happy enough to wait. Looks like I’ll get a 2022 model!

Would be good to know what you cannot access on the screen while driving, because there’s no other way to access anything with a command dial.
Mainly entering in navigation destinations and accessing most settings menus
AWD has the advantage in towing capabilities in addition to the traction benefits.

One thing I’ll point out, you said all models from gxl and above have the electric tailgate. That’s incorrect, xse and up has the electric tailgate. Gx and gxl have the standard manual tailgate.

I bought the 2021 Akera Turbo was considering both - wanted the cx-5 and tbh I needed a car in a few days the RAV wasn’t an option for bed and I wasn’t going to pay $10k extra to get one with a few 1000 kms. Long story short I’m getting 22 RAV cruise hybrid awd as a work car so I’m in heaven. Although free fuel would be better for the 10.8l/ mazda. Mazda is way more plush and stylish inside. Toyota has improved something’s which was a negative for me before - power front passenger seat and now the are ventilated like the Akera.

Looking at a 2022 Cruiser Hybrid vs Edge Hybrid. $5k more for the Edge Hybrid…. So other than the trim differences what is that extra $5K getting me over the Cruiser?
in Edge you get off road modes which is awesome. It can slowly descent the hill without driver interference, etc.

Actually in Canada they call this model the Trail. Adventure many other places.
At an average wait time now of 11-12 months for higher end variants, it's just not worth it. There'll be a new one ready to roll out by the time anyone gets their 2022 model!

I’m 5 months in to my order for my RAV4 Cruiser Hybrid, apparently another 5 months at least to go. After two years of test driving every SUV in class including the 3008 I decided the RAV was best overall. Still way short on the infotainment and interior but best overall.
I wonder how good the AWD system is. I live where roads are windy an when wet or icy benefits from all j4 wheels powered. Is this the case with the RAV? I assume no electric motivation at these times and not windy road speeds (60-70 km/h).
Thoughts?
We had a pre-facelift hybrid AWD as a long termer and didn’t struggle in snow and ice

Does the Edge still have the off-road modes that it used to - mud sand rock etc, with downhill assist? Or is it just like the Cruiser now?
Seems that the option of a panoramic sunroof was lost too, in moving to hybrid.for the Edge variant.
It’s starting to look like the Edge is much closer to the Cruiser now, except for different front face, interior finishes/colours and the lack of passenger seat heigh adjustment.
It does pick up ventilated seats but what else justifies the price difference?

I ordered my cruiser in April, when I found out about the new model I called the dealer in September and explained that I was happy to wait for the 2022 model, they called me in late November and said my original order was ready, I said “no thanks”.so the wait continues, but I am happy, the new model looks great cooled front seats plus all the extra bits, it’s a no brainer.
@@billylid100 I went through a similar thing. The updates are definitely worth the extra wait. I wish they put in a speed limit function but oh well, can’t have it all. The digital rear view mirror looks pretty cool

@Chasing Cars team : since you brought up recent SUV test in the video, Can I ask why the 2 panelists like Kia Sportage 1.6 turbo GT over the 2 L diesel variant . While one of the same judges ( Nathan) did not like the 1.6 L turbo petrol in the Hyundai Tuscon ( kia and Tuscon share the same engine and powertrain ).

RAV4 Cruiser hybrid is a good car but NVH is poor. Buzzy ICE engine when at even moderate throttle spoils the really good JBL stereo.
Can you test base petrol GX 2wd grade as every one tend to review Cruiser and heigher end models

This gen Toyota RAV4 got so many problems like roof water leak, gas tank issue, transmission issues and engine failure. Toyota dealership not fixing those problems under five years limited warranty. Toyota is not a reliable car brand anymore. Better Save your money for all new Honda CRV turbo or hybrid coming in 2023😊
I had my rav4 cruzer hybrid awd for 10 months before a dipshit rear ended me while I was waiting in traffic on the M4 in Sydney. I miss it so much. I'm now stuck driving a crappy mg while it gets repaired. The total cost to repair $25k...

The review camera on the review mirror sounds like a plus. I would be interested to know how often that back camera's lens gets clogged with grit and hence becomes a mite add on. In Canada especially in winter back ends get dirty fast. Anyone experience this possible negative? I do drive a VW Sportwagen which doesn't have this camera but does when backing out. This camera stays clean 90% of the time because it is hidden under the VW logo in on the back hatch and hence appears when this logo flips open. It works extremely well.
Anedotally most of my friends who are going to buy a vehicle in the next few years will consider a hybrid in whichever brand if the initial cost isn't too high and in Canada if incentives are finally given to more of the country by the Feds AND THE DEALERS DON'T GOUGE THAT AMOUNT IN THEIR FAVOUR IN THE ASKING LIST PRICE! Shame on the dealers who do.
l know supply and demand will dictate. It is a shame the supply in most brands is back logged. Waiting it out if one can is the way to go.

My wife bought a Rav4 Cruiser last year with a tan interior. The interior is 3 different colours and feels cheap for a car that cost just over 50k. The front seats are flat and un-suportive, the reverse camera resolution is so low it looks like your looking through a steam covered shower screen. The relatively low fuel consumption for a car of this size is the only thing it is genuinely great at. Everything else is just text book Toyota mediocrity.
Its expensive because it is Toyota nothing special

Are there still large wait times on these? scrolling down the comments people seem to be switching up to the edge to get it sooner. Personally i think the cruiser suits me, going to a dealership tomorrow to have a chat, should i expect to wait 6 months?

Does the AWD stop working if battery is flat? Or does it charge from the engine. I'm unsure how it would go on a long ski field access road. Any idea?
It charges whilst it drives. I haven't had the battery go flat yet.

Yes, very disappointing that EV and PHEV models get delayed to arrive in Australia. If Toyota had the RAV4 Prime (PHEV) available I would definitely considered it. Now I ordered a GX Hybrid as I don't need all the bells and whistles of the higher trims.
How much tax does the govt earn from fuel excise? Kinda see why they are not in a rush. 🤔
The Edge Hybrid loses the powered and height adjustable passenger seat and digital rear view mirror of the Cruiser but yet the cost of the car increases considerably. Basically paying more for less just so you can have a different front bumper, some slightly different wheel guards and some orange stitching inside. Makes the Edge hybrid a poor choice in comparison to the Cruiser which is actually the better car but cheaper. The Edge is also not compatible with the Nudge bar due to its front bumper design and it’s 1 inch larger wheels make it more difficult to find compatible all terrain tires if you are like me and want all terrain tires.
For me I ordered the 2022 Cruiser Hybrid AWD. Also didn’t really like the orange stitching and orange dash highlights either when I test drove the Edge.
The digital rear view mirror is available on the edge hybrid.
@@robertduclayan2298 ah ok. Wasn’t available on the Petrol variant so that’s a plus. Still, for a $7610 increase in price for basically cosmetics, a bumper that isn’t compatible with the nudge bar and the lack of the powered passenger seat, it’s quite a poor purchase in comparison to the Cruiser.
@@brokenSnake definitely not worth it. I forgot to mention that the Cruiser also gains real leather seats unlike the Edge which uses softex which is a synthetic leather. Really don’t understand where the price increase came from with the Edge considering that it has less features than the Cruiser.
@@brokenSnake you’re 100% correct. When I heard that Toyota was releasing the Edge in Hybrid form, I was very curious as to how they were going to retain the off road features you mentioned. It ended up having a driveline exactly the same as the standard Hybrids so basically it’s a pointless model as has increased in price, downgraded features and has lost what made it better for off-roading. Still, at least it will speed up the wait times a bit as before everyone was just getting the Cruiser. Now it’s a mix of both.
Edit: the loss of the panoramic roof option was strange though.
