This is Rick's wife, and you just saved us $800 or actually $795 - had to pay for the fluid. WE, Rick and I, we followed your video exactly, and were able to replace hydraulic fluid in the motor, and that fixed the motor, just as you said. It was a good feeling that (1) we could fix it and (2) we saved so much money, Your video is an excellent training/fixing tool. Thank you so very much. You saved me that $795, so Black Friday here I come.

This for slow movement. If you have no motor at all check for 12vdc at the motor connector. It unplugs real easy. , e brake pulled , key on, press top up. If you have 12vdc your motor in N/G. I pulled the motor cap off and it was black as coal in there. cleaned it out and worked great. Careful to not loose the little bearing at the end of the shaft to the cover.the 2 copper brushes are spring loaded, pull 1 back to re-install the cap. Use a towel to collect the black stuff, I used electrical cleaner. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for this excellent advice. I was thinking about sending my 2001 Ford Mustang to service because the soft top top motor was dead. I checked out the cost of a replacement motor and got annoyed. Then I watched your clip and read some comments from other subscribers and noticed they had experienced exactly the same problem as I did. Well instead of having to spend hundreds of dollars plus labor, I did it all by myself for a total cost $12.50. My time doesn't count, but I am no car mechanic and I had no problem fixing it by following your instructions. Thank you so much again. Robert

Tony . . . you are THE MAN !!! I have a 2004 Ford Mustang convertible that the convertible top just kept getting s l o w e r and s l o w e r over the past 3 months . . . until it just decided to totally quit working all together one day when I was out & about . . . and YES it started raining and I sat underneath an interstate overpass for about 30 - 45 minutes waiting for the rain to stop !!! I thought for sure that I needed a new convertible top motor . . . and even had it quoted to replace @ $350 for the motor and $250 to replace. I followed your UA-cam video instructions and 35 minutes later that baby is working again like a charm !!!
Indeed, as one of the other commenters noted, replacing the ATF stopper plug was the hardest part of the whole process which I struggled with for about 15 minutes . . . so, I put a little WD40 on the plug, used a blunt micro-screwdriver as you suggested and while placing the plug into the hole, pulled back on the outer-part tip of the rubber plug with one hand stretching it backwards away from the hole which stretches the plug to a thinner profile, while applying a little elbow grease with the screwdriver in the other hand . . . it went right in !!!
Thank You for saving me about $600 !!!
Side Note: I am by no means any type of mechanic . . . but this was truly easy . . . with your visual guidance of course !!!
    I appreciate it immensely !!!

This Video is spot on, I had someone tell me I needed a new motor however roof would go down but not up. I follow it to a T in my daughters 2004 Mustang and it was cake. She's going in the Air Force Sept 26 th and trying to sell it, so with your help selling it will be much easier. Thanks again for the knowledge much appreciated ... Jeff

Thank you for this video. Saved time, money, and what a relieve of stress! Hubby took kids yesterday for some spider monkey business. Had top down but had to pull over as my kids wanted the top up. The top will not budge. On his way home, saw this video. When they got home, my 12 yr old helped get the seats out with hubby's help. I went to auto part store to buy the transmission fluid per described in this video. Stopped by Wally for the turkey baster. Did exactly as shown in this video. Now IT'S working!!!!!!!. So thankful. You see, hubby needs this car for work today and he cannot have the top down as it get can very cold here in CO. His main car has been at the dealer for a snapped crankshaft bolt and we are waiting for a new engine (2 weeks going) and expensive work! So now you know what a blessing this was. Thank you form the bottom of my heart.

Awesome video! You saved me around $300 from the mechanic. He told me that the unit needed to be replaced, because the wasn't pumping the fluid. After watching your video, it showed that he failed to leave the plug off to bleed the lines. I popped the cap and it worked like a charm. Thank you for your video.

I too had the problem. Followed this method with two exceptions. First I did not remove the pump from mount. Used a hypodermic needle from a drug store with a 1/8" tube and injected a couple of ounces to just below the hole. Cycled system then replaced plug using a small screw in the hole in the plug, push gently and it stretches the plug and goes right in. Note, I also taped the hypo and tube to the pump so I dodn't have to go looking for it the next time.

Hector Terrazas thank you so much. That should work. Also if you notice it starts slowing down again check your actuators to see if they are leaking. If you look down through your back side windows with them down you should see on both sides a thing that looks like a shock. If you see fluid coming out of them while your lifting the top they need replacing. Mine was in good shape and worked excellent after bleeding the system and didn't have to replace them. Hope yours goes good and thank you again...Tony

Great write up! Can a small leak be fixed with power steering fluid that contains leak repair?

Hello, Do you have any advice on a 2007 Pontiac G6 GT hardtop convertible. It goes down fine and seems to go up well until it drops into place. The pin on the driver side wont clip into place unless I pull down and put pressure on there. The roof is slightly twisted and the driver side does not seal up properly. We cant see anything bent or in the way and nothing before this to indicate a problem. Thanks for any help
