  • New York to Belgrade, Serbia, this is my first time in Serbia and I never expected things to go like this. This city has so much to offer and in this video, we explore what to expect in Belgrade and some of the best things to do in Belgrade. From the local food to the incredible architecture, I can see why so many Americans are moving here.

What is the most important : Belgrade and Serbia are safe to visit and explore. You can walk through Belgrade during late nights and nothing bad will happen to you. Maybe Belgrade isn't as beautiful as other European cities but definitely has a lovely charm. People in Serbia are polite and hospitable and also I think you should not have any conversation barriers because we speak english( not perfect but enough). Stay well, feel free to visit Novi Sad and have a nice time here. Cheers. P. S. Eat serbian food, it's irreplaceable. 😀

For the roadtrip, here are some ideas for you!
    • Novi Sad
Second largest city in Serbia, not far from Belgrade. A chipper town with all the spoils and none of the stress of the big smoke. Locals sprawl in pretty parks and outdoor cafes, and laneway bars pack out nightly. The looming Petrovaradin Fortress keeps a stern eye on proceedings, loosening its tie each July to host Serbia's largest music festival. You can walk to all of Novi Sad's attractions from the happening pedestrian thoroughfare, Zmaj Jovina, which stretches from the main square (Trg Slobode) to Dunavska.
    • Subotica
Not far from Novi Sad. Sugar-spun art nouveau marvels, a laid-back populace and a sprinkling of Serbian and Hungarian flavours make this leafy town - the second largest in the region of Vojvodina and practically at the Hungarian border - a worthy day trip or stopover.
    • Uvac Canyon
Serbia is full of gorgeous nature that impresses as much as it delights, and no spot marries the two of those reactions quite as well as Uvac Canyon. The meanders are as dramatic as river bends are going to get, seemingly conceived by someone with an overexcitable imagination and a liberal interpretation of the word ‘bend’. Add jagged cliffs, wild fauna and the immense power of the Drina river, and you have the wonderful Uvac Canyon.
    • Sremski Karlovci
Perhaps Serbia’s prettiest town, Sremski Karlovci is small enough to be considered an attraction in itself. Everything of note within the town exists on a single square, including the first Serbian high school and one of the most graceful fountains in the state. Villages don’t come more gorgeous in the country, accentuated only by the historical importance of Karlovci itself.
    • Drvengrad
If you happen to be the most creative film director of your generation, the chances are you are going to be fairly successful if you get the chance to construct your own village. That is exactly what Emir Kusturica got to do with the idyllic Drvengrad, a teeny hamlet in the west of the country with streets named after pop culture icons and arguably the most relaxed atmosphere in all of Serbia.
    • Kopaonik
The largest mountain range in Serbia, which extends from the northwest to the southeast for 80 km. One section of the mountain is a protected zone of the National Park Kopaonik. Kopaonik has the largest skiing centers in the country with cosy spas and resturants all around. The center has a unique system of cable-cars and ski-lifts. It’s a great escape into the Serbian wilderness for those who like to spend the winters sporty!
I hope that you will choose whatever you find most interesting from these descriptions above! Enjoy your stay in Serbia! I was just as surprised by the country as you are now, when I first visited!
    Best regards from Denmark!

@@DivertLiving I would add Sombor, my hometown. Check Charles Carther video (well, there are two) about it. It is better during summer. One of the greenest towns in Europe (it has more tree lines then streets in terms of length. Mostly it is one North American species so.. ofc, it is better when it is all green, during summer) and also, has one of biggest painting in Balkans in city hall. I would add Vršac. Nice looking town with restaurant Dinar, they really have best food. And Pirot and Stara Planina and monasteries around it. There you can find authentic villages etc. Have fun m8.

Very good recommendation with to the point description. Note that Uvac canyon does not have anything to do with the Drina river! The Drina has to offer a fantastic day-cruise from Lake Peruchaz to the town of Vishegrad, a must thing to do in summer. Make sure to book in advance.
A visit to Drvengrad is really not complete without a unique ride on the vintage train from Mokra Gora and back to it. Again in spring to autumn, and it is advisable to book in advance.

I don't know what is the situation this year with all the Covid issues, but usually for orthodox Christmas Eve there are a lot of people in front of the Temple and the small church and there's a big fire, music, rakija etc... It's 6th of January, at night. On the 7th most of the stores and restaurants are closed, be surprised with that, buy your groceries before.

Hey there, thank you for the video. I am glad you went to Serbia and had an incredible experience. On top of that, you shared it with the world! I've been living in TX for almost 20 years now and haven't gone back to Belgrade for almost 5! Thank you for showing me a glimpse of my hometown. Burek and jogurt, roasted chestnuts (I can't believe they still do that!), Knez Mihailova Street, Kalemegdan Fortress, St. Sava Temple, and most of all, you passed right by my high school (at 9:47) in Njegoseva Street. Good luck on your world travels!

    Hi Jimmy!
Nice to see you enjoying your stay in Serbia!
Although the COVID situation is a bit grim worldwide, know that the full scope of what Beograd has to offer is way better when it is spring/summer time when virus situation might deteriorate slightly.
I you'd like to dine well, make Serbian friends, and be sure to visit Serbian families. Avoid topics of politics & football at all if possible. Learning a few words of Serbian language will get you far.
Although the restaurant and fast food is top notch quality mostly everywhere, the real deal is about visiting a Serbian home. In such a scenario fast food is not a contender compared to the actual hospitality & cuisine of Serbian family during Slava time. Such customs predate Christianity and they are very important to us Serbian people.
Looking for a cheap place to stay, Serbia most likely is one such place and WiFi is better in city hot zones.
    Stay well & eat good.
    Cheers.

Small correction, st Sava was never king. He was the youngest son of the grand zhupan and brother of the first king Stefan the Firstcrowned. He rejected his life of luxury at a fairly young age to live a spiritual and humble life. Great video!

St Sava brought Christianity to the Serbs as well as making Serbian Orthodox Church independent from other orthodox churches. He was the son of a king but he rejected monarchy for Christianity. His remains were burnt by the Ottomans at the same spot where this temple is built in his honour. There is a bit of competition between the east orthodox churches as to who is going to have the biggest temple. The Bulgarian's used to hold the record with their dome in Sofia. the Serbs hold the record currently and the Romanians are building a bigger one at the moment, I have been told.

Zajecarsko pivo is a beer from a town in eastern Serbia called Zajecar. Great footage and editing skills btw. I hope you enjoy Serbia, most people do, so they come back. Great decision to get out of the capital and see more of rural Serbia as that is a truer representation of the country. Greetings from Australia.

Really nice and positive energy from you in this clip. Recommendation for next days
is central part of Serbia called Sumadija, it could be translated like Woodland, the name was given for many forests in that part of country.
The main town in Sumadija is Kragujevac, it was first capital of Serbia before Belgrade. Also in Sumadija is Topola, Serbian Toskana, a lot of history and nature there.
Gornji Milanovac is also very nice town in Sumadija, and every town is very close to each other. Best regards and have a nice time during this period.

You have been in front of the Church of Saint Sava (The big white one), but you didn't go in, try to go the next day because you will see the biggest mosaic in the world.
