    Serbia is definitely a beautiful country, but it makes no sense to compare the two countries. Turkey is geographically almost 10 times bigger than Serbia. While one region of Turkey freezes at -40 degrees in winter, you can sunbathe and swim in another region.

    We in Serbia call Istambul differently. The name we often use is Carigrad which means: city of kings. That speaks enough about Istambul from our perspective. While Belgrade has a lot of history, it was peripheral city of Byzantine empire (and Ottoman empire latter on) so that means that Istambul is more atractive from the start and that continues to this day. I'm from Serbia and I love my country and culture but some things are not comparable. You can enjoy both countries nevertheless.

    As a Turk, I love Serbia and Serbs. I visited more than once and I would love to visit again in the future. But Serbia is so much smaller than Turkey and Turkey is so much diverse than Serbia. Visiting Turkey from west to east is like visiting different countries. Serbia can’t compete with Turkey in terms of cultural diversity, history, landscape, nature, different weather etc. I don’t say this to humiliate Serbia. But, this comparison is not logical.

    • @yfk1989
      @yfk1989 2 роки тому +4

      @Дејан Раковић “half of the inhabitants?” I live in a neighborhood which contains the most of the balkan migrants and they are in no way “half of” anything related to population. Turkey is much diverse because of many different people and people from the balkans included in that. But serbs are not the only one or major in number. Yes, we build this country together with all the etnic groups from west to east. And Im proud of all of them. Im caucasian, so you can consider me as migrant too. Im not any different than serbs or bosniaks or any other migrant in turkey. So, I totally can empathize you.

    So this is actually a comparison of Serbia to Istanbul. Turkey has different climates and landscapes throughout whether it's mountains, rolling hills or arid desert like conditions, and contains more ruins than Greece or Italy. Istanbul is an international city full of different people and cultures so this is very difficult to compare to a single country with primarily Serbians in it. I think Turkey/Istanbul is the obvious choice on every level.

    • @lisabelle7553

      @Em Mel fair enough. But my post is that Istanbul at over 25M people is a true international city with a mosaic of people from around the world. Serbia is beautiful, but it is a very small Country- way smaller even than Istanbul alone. No comparison can fairly be made between Turkey with 80 million people, coastlines on Black Sea , Aegean, and Mediterranean, and centuries of ruins from Greeks, to Roman, to Byzantium and Ottoman . Serbia may be most suitable for a short holiday with limited time. You can spends months in Turkey and barely scratch the surface of sights and experiences.

    Great video Jim!! I really liked the turkey but was more drawn to Serbia. I am leaving in two weeks to the Yucatan for 21 days. I have a rental, all my insurances from medical, car, hotel. I and flying into Merida Mexico and driving to Progreso where I have a suit on the beach. It has white sand and is secluded. As I remember telling you I grew up a beach bum and an hour and a half from the boarder. I am far away from Cancun where everyone goes, I want an adventure so I had this place calling to me. I will be able to visit 5 Mayan ruins, each one a day trip and in the jungle on a few. I know you have been there but it was in my teens when I was in Mexico city and our family drove in our camper. my second trip out of country as an adult and I am stoked big time at my age and with failing health, I need this after working my life away and never do much till old age. Thanks for everything bro, Now if I can get this damn gopro working right.

    I would say the main difference is that Turkey has a lot more to offer and therefore the clear winner. Serbia is quite small and lacks international standards for most part. Turkey will take you months to visit whereas Serbia you can complete in a fortnight.

    Because that istanbul is the main attraction to the all tourists what you see can maybe differ when you go to an another city. Like the taksi-taxi- example. I am not call my people scammers but they often try to hustle with tourists, especially in istanbul so beware of that. I can also say this to Kapalıçarşı as well. My people often loves to hustle with tourists. What you call cheap is not for cheap for us and not often our people shop these places.That is the main reason of hustling, try to get more from tourists. Of course not every people/place is like that but that doesnt change the existence of it.Other than that I love my people, I wouldnt wish to born anywhere else in the world.Of course with this new arising political and economical problems that we have,sometimes I wish to born somewhere else but I hope it is just comes and goes. I love my people my culture and my country. And hope we can find a solution to the problems and make our people happy as well.Thank you for your kind words too.Peace

    Istanbul is a mega-city and historic center of a mega-empire with all the sites that go with it, several times the size of Serbia, so different strokes for different folks. I call it the big four of Europe, Istanbul, London, Paris, and Moscow. HUUUUUGE metro areas that are also historic centers of big empires, I can easily see myself spending a month in each and still not running out of places to check out (I've done it with Paris, London, and Moscow, Istanbul is next on my bucket list). The next round: Madrid, Rome, Athens, Berlin, Saint Petersburg, a little smaller but some of my all time favorites with amazing history & cultural heritage. Belgrade is one or two levels smaller, plus it was destroyed so many times, and it's a love or hate type of place. If the vibe resonates with you, you'll love it. If it doesn't, you'll be like WTF?

    The percentage of religious people in Turkey is based on how citizens are registered. Because in Turkey if you have muslim grandparents and parents you are registered as muslim. I am atheist but registered as muslim. This has nothing to do with the laws regarding alcohol, because technically Turkish islam is alot more liberal regarding some
    Laws like alcohol. It’s just that the current government is ruled by a leader who has a very Arabophilic conservative approach to islam, he does not like moderate Turkish islam which is probably by far the most traditionally secular muslim forms in the world. They get away with it because under the rule of this government the economy quadrupled in size, making people tolerate the decreasing secular approch, but now the economic golden ages seem to be over the popularity of the president has decreased alot. Young people are fed up with islamism. If the opposition were to govern the country again all these ridiculous alcohol taxes would be reversed, and the percentage of muslims would have nothing to do with it. Things could already change with the next elections, it remains to be seen.

    There is nothing wrong in giving the authentic overall feeling.
    On a side note it is a bit silly to compare two countries with very different sizes both in area and population.
