SOUTHERN BLOOD serves as a remarkable final testament from an artist whose contributions have truly shaped rock & roll throughout the past four decades. Gregg Allman's first all-new recording since 2011's GRAMMY® Award-nominated solo landmark, LOW COUNTRY BLUES, the album is among the most uniquely personal of the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer's career, an emotionally expansive collection of songs written by friends and favorite artists including Jackson Browne, Willie Dixon, Jerry Garcia & Robert Hunter, Lowell George and Spooner Oldham & Dan Penn, meant to serve as a salutary farewell to his legion of devoted fans and admirers. Allman collaborated on his closing project with manager and dear friend Michael Lehman and GRAMMY® Award-winning producer Don Was, a longtime acquaintance and staunch supporter committed to helping the rock icon actualize his very specific aspirations.
    About GREGG ALLMAN:
Gregg Allman was undoubtedly among rock and roll's greatest and most significant artists, his soul-fired and still utterly distinctive voice one of the defining sounds in all of American music. From his founding role in the one and only Allman Brothers Band to his long and storied solo career, Allman consistently proved himself to be an iconic singer/songwriter and exceptional practitioner of the American blues tradition. Allman accrued a remarkable list of honors over his five decade career, including the ABB's 1995 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award at the 54th Annual GRAMMY® Awards. Allman detailed his brilliant career in 2012's acclaimed memoir, My Cross To Bear. Now available in both hardcover and paperback, the New York Times bestseller chronicles an astonishing life and creative journey burdened by unimaginable loss, alcohol and drug addiction, told with clear-eyed wisdom and sharp hindsight.

One of the prettiest songs I've ever heard.. it seems like Greg choked up a bit towards the end of this song. I'd read where he spoke of big brother Duane on a daily basis.. . Greg & Jackson did this beautifully... You are eternally young , eternally a master at singing , songwriting and eternally with us. You were loved ,Greg Allman.. Now ,be with your big brother and mama..

This was recorded less than a year before he died. There is a portion Gregg couldn’t sing as he was so choked up with emotion about Duane. You can hear Gregg choke singing “the middle of his song” and didn’t finish that verse. Y’all need to know he was very terminally ill with cancer and still recorded the album “Southern Blood”!! It’s full of songs that meant so much to him. It was released in September 2017 after Gregg passed away in May the same year. Shame on y’all for any thumbs down. This is part of an article from JamBandNews that explains:
The deeply emotional "Song For Adam" was written and features background vocals by longtime Allman friend Jackson Browne. So moved by the last verse of the song as it
reminded him of his brother Duane, Gregg's voice broke to the point where he was unable
to finish it. He left the studio that day saying he'd come back to re-cut it another time.
Unfortunately, that day never came and producer Don Was decided to put the song on
the album unfinished. It's the final track on SOUTHERN BLOOD, and ends the already
powerful proceedings on a very poignant and human note.

Gregg Allman and Jackson Browne. Yeah. Jackson was the only performer asked to sing on this album. They had been friends since they were really young and rooming together. Over the years Gregg recorded 4 of Jackson's songs including this one. Gregg included "Adam's Song" in memory of his brother Duane who at age 24 did not die from suicide but from a motorcycle accident. "It seemed that he stopped his singing in the middle of his song" ( Duane was a musical genius just like Lowell George). When Gregg recorded "These days" it gave Jackson, the songwriter, a whole new way of thinking about his own song, so he said. "Song for Adam", written by Jackson Browne and sung by Gregg Allman with Jackson Browne.

This is one of my favorite songs, especially this version by Gregg Allman. I keep coming back to this moving video year after year. As a person fighting fucking cancer like Gregg did, it makes my heart happy looking back and feeling happy. I know we can't stay in the past forever, but I sure appreciate the warm feelings that the past brings and learn to appreciate the little things, like this video. Hope that Gregg has reunited with his brother in heaven or wherever it is that we go from here.

Even tho Jackson Browne wrote this great song. He and Jackson had a nice connection. Two great hearts and great musicians. I truly love them both.❤😢

If no one has read the story of this album and the story of how when Greg was singing this song he broke down in the historic recording sessions thinking about his long lost brother, King Duane.

I'm almost 67 and I grew up with the Allman Brothers Doobie Brothers and brothers that I worked with in the music industry and the brothers that I was surfing with growing up but I've never heard this song what a tragedy!

Don Was, the producer, said Gregg broke down recording this song. It always reminded him of his brother Duane. He couldn't finish the recording. So they left it. Jackson Browne came in and did some additional work but I don't hear his voice. RIP Gregg. You are missed and loved still.

I hear Jackson on the chorus, second time around. I guess just having Jackson around would be comfort. He's good at that.

This song is just beautiful, if your lucky to go through life and have that friend, enjoy their company. I love getting on my bike and just riding, 99% I'm by myself. But if you stop for a break n that other person pulls up along side you for a break maybe take a ride together and see where you end up. My motorcycle reminds me of all the freedoms we have. Let's not take them for granted and enjoy life and each other. God Bless you Greg for putting this song in my life. Ride On.

You know Gregg would've given it all back to have Duane back. I can't imagine the pain, and heartache he experienced on a daily basis... Well, maybe I can. Having buried my daughter 6 yrs, 9 months and 21 days ago, I know pain and heartache well. 🥺
