SOUTHERN BLOOD serves as a remarkable final testament from an artist whose contributions have truly shaped rock & roll throughout the past four decades. Gregg Allman's first all-new recording since 2011's GRAMMY® Award-nominated solo landmark, LOW COUNTRY BLUES, the album is among the most uniquely personal of the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer's career, an emotionally expansive collection of songs written by friends and favorite artists including Jackson Browne, Willie Dixon, Jerry Garcia & Robert Hunter, Lowell George and Spooner Oldham & Dan Penn, meant to serve as a salutary farewell to his legion of devoted fans and admirers. Allman collaborated on his closing project with manager and dear friend Michael Lehman and GRAMMY® Award-winning producer Don Was, a longtime acquaintance and staunch supporter committed to helping the rock icon actualize his very specific aspirations.
    About GREGG ALLMAN:
Gregg Allman was undoubtedly among rock and roll's greatest and most significant artists, his soul-fired and still utterly distinctive voice one of the defining sounds in all of American music. From his founding role in the one and only Allman Brothers Band to his long and storied solo career, Allman consistently proved himself to be an iconic singer/songwriter and exceptional practitioner of the American blues tradition. Allman accrued a remarkable list of honors over his five decade career, including the ABB's 1995 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award at the 54th Annual GRAMMY® Awards. Allman detailed his brilliant career in 2012's acclaimed memoir, My Cross To Bear. Now available in both hardcover and paperback, the New York Times bestseller chronicles an astonishing life and creative journey burdened by unimaginable loss, alcohol and drug addiction, told with clear-eyed wisdom and sharp hindsight.

I am bawling listening to this, man this guy was such a part of my teenage yrs in the early 70's. His voice settled me when times were a bit troublesome for me. No one, not no one can repeat this man. We were all lucky to have his soul in our lives through the good times and the bad. Thanks Brother Gregg.

The original Allman Brothers played the Homecoming show at Vanderbilt University right before or after their first album. They arrived the afternoon of the show in an old Winnebago pulling a trailer and someone driving a U-Haul truck. They blew all of us out of our seats and other than the ABB I've never seen another show like it since. After being enlightened I followed them everywhere I could to see them play, Atlanta, Miami, Jacksonville, Batton Rouge, New Orleans. You can say they were a huge part of my life and I still would rather hear Idle Wild South or Playin Up A Storm any day than this shit that's out now. Gregg was without a doubt my idol. I tried to sing like him for years but we all know that there ain't but one Gregg Allman and, there will never be another human, singer, a musician or a songwriter like him.

Toni Frances - I read somewhere that he was kicking back on the couch or something and was listening to the final mix of this project and as it was just about the end of the songs he laid back more, closed his eyes and left as he moved on to a new part of his journey and hopefully into the loving arms of those who had gone before him, like Duane. I believe he was an "Elk Dreamer" as the Lakota would say. www.prairieedge.com/tribe-scribe/native-american-myths-legends-love/

My heart hurts for I grew up with so many of these awesome one of a kind musician that are taking and have taking their journey and at my age I know that I'm not far behind. To some you may not understand but we grew up with Janis Joplin , Beatles , Jimmy Hendricks , Rolling Stones , and of course my favorite Gregg Allman as well as Duane Allman which I named my son after... But there was so many with awesome vocals and instrument back in the late 1960's to late 1990s that was awesome but Gregg was my favorite . He as my friend.

I would take my quarters and myself down to the pinball and pool hall joint plug the juke box with a quarter and pick 3 songs to jam to as I did my best pinball wizard. I was fortunate enough to work for a Rock n Roll radio station right out of college. I did a good job and my bosses rewarded me by sending me to the Allman Brothers concert with backstage passes. My assignment was to get a guitar autographed by the band that the station would use for a charity auction. I briefly met some of the members, talked with Warren Hayes and Allen Woody. They were promoting Gov’t Mule at the time and thought I was way more influential to our stations play list then I was. They gave me some CDs. Of course I didn’t get to meet Gregg or Dicky, but a manager guy did take the guitar to them for signage. There was free food and and beer backstage. I was in all my glory. I really wanted to keep that guitar for myself. I’m no Angel, I but love Gregg Allman. RIP.

I worked at the studio in his younger days. He had crystal clear blue eyes. They always reminded me of an ocean. I could always tell by his eyes where he was coming from and how he felt. He was easy to read, at least for me. He might have fooled others, but he could not fool me. And when he was up to mischief, he had this little devil may care twinkle in his eyes.
This world is just not the same without Gregg in it. I'm sure all of you, who loved him, know what l mean.

Except for shooting himself in the foot to avoid the draft and narcing on their road manager Scooter Herring so he went to jail instead of greg he was real brave. The Allmans were the best band ever. Because they were a band.

I've been a fan of these brothers since longer than I care to remember. Wore out a couple of LP's of Live at the Fillmore. Thought they couldn't be better. Boy was I wrong. They've written some of the best music ever recorded and what a masterpiece this is. In true ABB style. Greg was right .. he had so much left to give, but he ran out of time. So grateful he completed this before passing. RIP brother .. you've earned it.

I have loved the music of the Allman Bros. all of my life, and so has most of my family. Going to see the band live in concert was always SO MUCH FUN! I got to sit (stand - lol) in the front row or way up close a bunch of times. One time I won tickets to a show and my son Chris caught Jaimoe's drumstick at the end. Such a fabulous night! I have always loved Gregg's solo album, Laid Back, particularly the song Multi-Colored Lady, even though all the songs are great. At the very last show I attended with my son in Myrtle Beach on Mother's Day a couple of year's ago, my son turned to me as the show was starting and asked me what song I wanted to hear. I said M-CL, and then they played it! OMG I was freaking out. It was so awesome! I cannot listen to My Only True Friend without crying. Check out the video if you have not seen it yet. Gregg was struggling with his health but he still pushed on and gave us this final gift. Words can seem inadequate, but thank you Gregg from the bottom of my heart for sharing your gifts and your soul. You are an inspiration for a life well lived despite many personal tragedies. RIP

Listened to Greggs music all day Christmas 2019 alone. Couldn't have had better company. What an AMAZING musician and man. RIP Gregg you were the best white bluesman ever! The Allman brothers paved the way for so many other great southern Rock and Roll artists. You were truly were an ANGEL here on earth. Met him briefly in Key West with David Allen Coe. He pulled up in a white Excalibur and left when the bottle of CC whiskey and Michelob gold showed up. He was sober and fighting the good fight. his music is timeless just like the man.

The Allman Brothers had a party house on Lake Sinclair in Ga. My parents weekend house was one cove over. In the 1974 I was 13. The music would drift across the lake from the partying at the Allman house. Every once in a while when I was out water skiing Gregg would blast past waving and smiling. Those were magical summers.
