I don't know about hayseed, although I have hauled hay, but us people in southeast Texas and east Houston can relate to Rodney's songs. Especially Telephone Road.
I was born in the 60's great tunes. Still here August 2024!!! Ear buds in blasting that music and locked the world outside. The 80'S and 90's were the best many great memories.
RC opened with this song on his recent show in Cincinnati and got a great reaction from the crowd. A perfect upbeat song to get everything flowing. A very good video is on UA-cam.
Man I am grateful like this song very inspiring & what? Can be said about Rodney Crowell Love his music have for years & continue too listen and enjoy❤😂🎉Thanks for your music!😂
I could shed my skin and in the blink of an eye, I could fly, fly, fly. Tie my dreams up in a sack and lay my head down on the track, And die, die, die. My life's been so sweet I just can't stand it. I must admit I've made out like a bandit. Last night's conversation with a real good friend of mine, Drinkin' wine, wine, wine. Said fifty years of livin' and your worst mistakes forgiven, Just take time, time, time. One man's lust for life brings world reknown, And the next guy can't get two feet off the ground. He's Earthbound. Earthbound; hear the wind through the tops of the trees. Earthbound; summer sun nearly ninety degrees. Earthbound; big 'ol moon sinkin' down, think I might stick around. I'm Earthbound. I knew love once way back when--she had almond eyes and olive skin, And long black hair. She was Irish-Spanish mix-breed, I was southeast Texas hayseed, We were almost there. Her daddy did not like my kind around. The true love took the next train out of town. Earthbound. Earthbound; where there's fathers and daughters in pain. Earthbound; mama's boy walkin' home in the rain. Earthbound; like a ship run aground, think I might stick around. I'm Earthbound. With each new day that passes I'm in need of thicker glasses, But it's all okay. Some day I'll be leavin', but I just can't help believin' That it's not today. (hey) Every golden moment I have found I've done my best to run right in the ground. Earthbound. Earthbound; see the sky big and beautiful blue. Earthbound; fallen angels come calling for you. Earthbound; keepin' close to the ground, think I might stick around. Earthbound; Tom Waits, Aretha Franklin, Mary Karr Earthbound; Walter Cronkite, Seamus Heaney, Ringo Starr Earthbound; the Dalai Lama and Charlie Brown make me wanna stick around. I'm Earthbound.
Somewhere he had kind of a 'rebirth' of energy and started putting out some really good stuff. This was one of those real gems. He has done a lot of quiet, contemplative stuff, but here you have a Crowell gem where the tune is upbeat, energetic, and yet the message is in the lyrics. Pretty hard not to feel the joy in this one.
Been awhile but this is the song that got me into RC. Great album that I always groove to when it pops up on the CD jukebox when working in the garage.
great make-me-want-to-dance music! we need more uplifting sounds like this! all you haters are jaded and don't know true get in your soul music! rock on Rodney! You got it! Don't change!
Wow I saw that a few years ago but finally got to understand the song and listen over. Rodney Crowell has always been#1 in my book for what it's worth I
@Tyson0395 I don't think he's talking about Roseanne Cash. She doesn't have long black hair, and there's no reason to think Johnny Cash didn't like him. They even did a duet of I Walk The Line
I'm a huge (if recent) Crowell fan. Can somebody tell me who the woman playing keyboards in this video is? I've seen her in several other Crowell videos, but she isn't credited in any of them.
@@kylekullin2520 Hey don't come around here no more, but Let's roll another joint And you don't know how it feels, because It's good to be king and have your own way 🤣
YASSS!!! I just found the song I've been looking for for TEN YEARS!!!!!! I haven't heard it since I moved in Fall 2006, & have scoured the earth for a DECADE!!!! Going through old boxes, saw a cassette. Put it on & this song started playing! You have no idea how HUGE this is for me!!!!! :'D
I didn't know that, but now that I do it's so obviously Bela Fleck's sound. No wonder I love this song so much! I think "Sinister Minister" was the first Bela Fleck song I ever heard, had to call the radio station (PBS radio in Dallas) to find out who that marvelous artist was. Never heard anything like it before! My son loved Bela Fleck and also the "Gypsy Kings" when he was a baby. When he was fussy, I could put either one on, and he was all happy and grooving to the beat. ua-cam.com/video/jndnEosYpqo/v-deo.html
As far as performances go, this is about as good as it gets. The melody and lyrics are brilliant. The director and editor have a superb eye for what to shoot and when to cut. Plus, watch Rodney's eye contact with the camera. Very few artists nail it like this.
Love this version of Earthbound. Just saw him live for the 3rd time in as many years in Grass Valley, Ca. He's currently touring with Trey Hensley and Rob Ickes along with his band that includes Eamon McLoughlin, Dow Tomlin and Jamie Dick. Get some tix if he's coning near you. Definitely a great show. Oh, and Earthbound was 4th on the set list ;-)
Okay, I originally thought this video was going to be about earthbound the game, it's not but I have to admit if it wasn't for the game I won't have clicked on this vid and I'm glad I did because this is a good song. I'm seeing some of the comments going after earthbound fans and fans going after non fans in vise versa, listen guys it's okay for a song to have the same name as the game and it's okay for people to like said game what is not okay to be is a dick in the comments now stop that and enjoy the song or don't either is fine.
Sometimes, when people find out I am an atheist, they tell me something to the effect that, "it must be very sad believing that when you die, that's it." So, I simply quote them Mr. Crowell: "Someday I'll be leaving/But I just can't help believing that its not...to...day!!!" If they are intrigued enough to ask, I then tell them to go listen to this song, for this is my spirituality. Love this song!
First heard this in prison. A year prior, I had broken my wrist in a conveyor belt at a sawmill, small settlement came through a month after getting locked up. (Holy shit how country does my life sound!) So I bought a clear tv. Stayed on CMT waiting for this song. Always came on when I was due somewhere, but I listened first. Brilliant song. Much more meaning than seems on the surface.
Rodney turns 70 this year. He's had a few hits himself, namely.. 1. I couldn't leave you if I tried 2. Fate's right hand 3. Earthbound 4. After All This Time 5. It's hard to kiss the lips at night that chew your ass out all day long (W/Vince Gill) As well as songs for other artists, namely 1. I ain't living long like this-Waylon Jennings 2. Leaving Louisiana in the broad daylight-The Oak Ridge Boys 3. Song for the life-Alan Jackson 4. Please Remember Me-Tim McGraw
this is LR not the person shown......RC is simply the best songwriter and singer....everyone of his songs touches my soul like no one else has.......and there are many, many writers and singers that I really like, but not like RC......here's to many, many more from RC!!
love the beat of the drums and the rest also but without a great drum to keep beat things get wacky. I was on a flight from Nashville TN to L.A. once and he was on the same flight. I said hello Rodney he said hi back. talked briefly and told him I was also in the film/video biz. He asked what my name was I was called by, I said 'Banzai" and got that film crew name from an old Japanese lighting director once. he smiled and said I've heard that name a time or two. good guy that writes awesome words.
Did anyone else notice J.D. Souther at 4:02? What a talent. I dedicate this song to my little brother Clyde "Butchie" who just died December 7, 2009. You will be missed! and hope you don't stay Earthbound now, my gentle spirited brother!

One of the better music videos you'll see and, of course, the song speaks for itself. Great job and great visuals. Loved it. Probably my personal favorite Rodney song.
"I was south east Texas hayseed", that line tickles me ;)
I'm a North East Texas gal, and I've known a few of those "hayseeds", most are pretty good guys just like Rodney!
I don't know about hayseed, although I have hauled hay, but us people in southeast Texas and east Houston can relate to Rodney's songs. Especially Telephone Road.
He kinda' was. Rodney and I grew up in Jacinto City, east of Houston. In the '50s it was definitely NOT cosmopolitan.
One of the greatest songs ever. Nuff said.
