RE Village VR was an experience that I'll likely never forget. I loved every minute of it.
Dude same here, it took me 3 days to pass the beginning (cause of work) but cause of how dark the are was plus falling rocks.
I haven't played village yet, so I'm looking forward to playing in in VR blind!

I got a ps2vr last week. started with RE4 Remake. Awesome VR Port. Not a true VR experience like VIllage. I hedge on buying Village since owned on pc, happy I did.

This is the game that sold me on PSVR2, I've never bought a piece of tech that new before. RE8 and GT7 at launch made it more than worth it. Excited for its future too!

Holding off on RE8 for now as I only beat it recently on flat screen. I did quickly check out the VR implementation & it's insane.
Tried GT7 online with my brother yesterday in a private lobby & it was one of the best experiences of my gaming life. Ramming one another, bolting down the track, taking tight corners to overtake... PSVR2 is astonishingly good.
Can't wait for the showcase next week, really hope we get some great games!

Same. The castle took me significantly longer in vr. Soaking in the immersion makes progression much slower but add to that how terrified I am at all times and time to complete anything is drawn out. Fantastic game
House Beneviento was what scared me the most in R8, awesome how scary it is, I was about to leave it but I was able to hold it rhahahahah
Dude tht house is everything a horror movie would want it to be. Keep a teddy bear or your gf close, it gets scary.

After playing Red Matter 2 today, it beats RE8 in clarity and frame rate, but Village is just so lush with dilapidated details that I agree it’s easy to forgive the aliasing and reprojection. I still think RE Village is the best and best-looking VR2 game so far. Amazing experience, even as someone who doesn’t usually play horror games.
@@kato093 Eh, it’s debatable. RE8 and HCotM are both beautiful games and have different strengths and flaws, so it largely comes down to preference which game you think looks better. I personally find the diversity of environments and enemy types/animations in RE8 more impressive. It does suffer from more aliasing than HCotM, but HCotM has more blurring from TAA. The waterfall animations in HCotM are also distractingly muddled from the reprojection when viewed from close up, whereas the waterfall near House Beneviento in RE8 just looks flawless to me. But the foliage in HCotM is clearly more detailed than in RE8.
Overall, I think the heavier use of detailed indoor environments in RE8 works to its favor in VR. It’s a little harder to appreciate HCotM’s sweeping vistas full of detailed foliage when the scene can’t quite be rendered at native resolution on the headset.
It definitely comes down to preference. Red Matter 2 is the best looking game from a technical standpoint. But I prefer the more realistic look of Village, even with its slightly lower framerate and resolution
@@WithoutParole I agree - RM2’s graphics are very impressive technically, but that’s achieved with a level of restraint that would be uncommon in a AAA game. Also, I agree with Myles’s comment that the lip syncing is distractingly off in RM2. But human character animations are difficult even for large teams to pull off, and Vertical Robot wisely kept them pretty infrequent in RM2.
I hope we eventually get performance approaching RM2 with fidelity similar to RE8! But that might not be easy to do without a hypothetical PS5 pro.

The manual reloading is giving the game a whole new layer of stress (especially in that hectic early area, when you have to get used it). On the other hand, aiming is easier, so with with a full clip situations feel sometimes easier. Literally the only thing I’ve been playing since I got the VR2 a week ago. Been a fan of the series and played RE7 in VR too, but now the realistic controls are such a game changer!

I'm at Heisenberg's Factory now and it's been really amazing, the immersion is insane especially compared to 7 VR, and I decided to wait for 4 Remake's VR mode to come out before getting it
I pre order Re4, but i Just dont wanna play until vr mode. I think it will worth The wait, tô get the first better experience of the game
People complain about the Factory part, but, I even liked the ship in RE7. Just another cool environment. But Factory beats ship for me.
@@vincevirtua the factory was a great change of pace for Village! Could have definitely been much worse, but they had tons of cool enemies and scenes in there. 😃
I'm at the factory too and it is terrifying with those dudes with the drills waking up and chasing me.

RE Village is absolutely stunning in VR, and proof that flat screen games ported to VR is not only a viable strategy, but a great one. It drives me crazy when people say VR games need to be developed separately. Nothing could be further from the truth. This review is spot on RE Village is 10/10 in VR.
literally this. if anything, VR would add so much to so many games that are lacking. i couldn’t care less about, say, Dead Island 2. but Dead Island 2 VR? that would be an instant buy
It was an 8.5 - 9 for me. It's more to do with the shortcomings of PSVR2 and lack of power coming from the PS5 itself. RE8 & RE4 are both visually demanding games, and in ways it felt like the PS5+VR2 were in over their heads. Resolution was all over the map, including visuals, both of which took a nose dive during larger out door environments. There's also motion duplication from the PSVR2's 60fps reprojection, god rays seeping off of white text, glare, OLED mura, discomfort from the PSVR2 itself, which all drag down or degrade the experience. Or at least they did for me, knowing just how much better the experience could of been running at 90fps with PC, or possibly the upcoming PS5 Pro.
And yet, I still find village far more immersive and enjoyable in VR than on a flats creen. The VR cut scenes alone are just jaw dropping and the 1:1 motion based gunplay spanks wiggling your thumb on an analog stick, no question. I just wish Ethan could hold or holster more weapons like Leon could in RE4 VR mode, while being able to disable the motion based jacket inventory. RE4 VR Mode deinitely has the edge in game play.

Man this is great to heat how well this turned out. If I could get Dead Space Remake in VR in this quality I'd buy a VR yesterday.
The first game I played in psvr2, first game i finished in vr. And what a ride this was, - just sad I don't get to experience it for the first time again, - truly one of a kind gaming experience.

Luckily I already platinumed this game on PS4 Pro so the lack of trophies support will not be a problem for me but I can't wait to try this out on my shiny new PSVR2 unit that's 2 weeks away from making it to to El Salvador!!! Great review as always Bryan!
One of my favorites ever, think i have done everything i can in it. Beat it numerous times on psvr. My unlimited ammo magnum and rocket pistol in other hand, i insta-kill anything in my way
This is my first VR experience and I hope I didn’t set the bar too high for myself.. I having a hard time finding what to play next..
RE Village was 90% of the reason i got the PSVR2 and it didn't disappoint, loved it immensely, bit of a downer that Shadows of Rose wasn't PSVR2 compatible that would of been sweet as, RE7 is still my fav VR game on the original PSVR1, there's 3 other titles id love to see PSVR2 upgrades The Evil Within 2, The original Devil May Cry, and Especially The Calisto Protocol, that'll be so cool with the Dual sense shinanigins Tonkin a goon upside the head with my electric rod, but a ps5 and VR2 upgrade for The Evil Within 2 would be Super Sexy Stylish, The penultimate dream tho is accomplishing Shinji Mikami's original vision of The first Resi not only in First Person, but the VR2 id lose my flipping mind exploring Spencer Mansion in VR, and could you imagine how fully gnarly Dino Crisis Remade would be in VR just thinking on it would be Terrifyingly awesome and a sight to behold
Id do DIRTY thing for evil within 2 vr. That game is so underrated i feel. Sort of like days gone.

My favorite game to replay in PSVR2. It never gets old & I'm always having fun shooting everything! I need RE7 in PSVR2 though, still have love for that game!
I just got the VR and RE8. I have never shaken from fear in my entire life until i played this game in VR. No sense in changing my underwear as it will stay dirty for the remainder of my playthrough.
Finished this one ages ago on psvr 2. Even after playing Half Life Alyx before I think RE8 is the best VR game I’ve ever played.

I’ve beaten village on flat screen but playing this game with the psvr2 is a WHOLE NEW experience and I fuckin love it!
I've played through 7 times now. Fastest was 1:59:xx. Easily the best VR game I''ve ever played. Have you unlocked all the extra weapons from collecting goat statues? The S.T.A.K.E. is my go-to gun now, fuly upgraded... I call it "Face fucker... The Fucker of Faces". Bring on the RE4 REmake... Bought it on launch day, haven't touched it yet (hopefully we'll get a release date at next weeks showcase)!
I just unlocked infinite ammo for my STAKE yesterday. Now it’s the only weapon I need lol
I say wow with this game. It's awe inspiring. This is why after being a hard core PCVR gamer I am so happy this came out as good as it did. It is bringing high quality VR to the masses. Now if only Sony follows through and stops dropping the ball.

I was bored fast on the flatscreen and stopped playing after the big lady.
In VR its a totally different experience.
I went from boredom to scared every minute. That's the same game with the power of immersion you only get from VR.
That's why I spend 600 euros. I want to be entertained again after 30 years of gaming.
VR is the future. But it's not totally there yet. So I help by buying and get some real glimpses of gaming greatness in 20 years.
It's like owning laser disc in the 80s and the mainstream consumer has to wait for dvd in the year 2000.

The regular version! Then all you have to do is download the free PSVR2 patch (that's listed on the PlayStation Store as DLC) and you're good to go! :D

It's unfortunate that at the end of your review there I'm left questioning whether or not VR will get equal treatment as any other game or if it's going to be treated as a nuisance, something to be tacked on then forgotten about. I'm all for hybrids but not all for not being able to play the dlc. That is coming right?

It could be preferred to add it to a wishlist.. but it truly is worth $70 even today despite that
this was definitely a game (alongside Pavlov) that has made PSVR2 worth it so far, and hope to see more great titles be made for the headset for the rest of its cycle.
Mini golf is more fun than I thought it would be. 9/10 for what it is

@@kato093 Agree. Literally all the games i got i love on it. Hell, little ones like Vacation simulator are fun too. Don't overlook Townsmen VR btw. My least played game so far is Horizon CotM tbh. Got a little fed up with climbing and climbing...

If you buy the disc version (PS4 or PS5 will work, the PS4 one will let you update to the PS5 version free) you just need to download the FREE PSVR2 DLC from the PlayStation Store. Then you're good to go!

Village is a PSVR2 game. It won't work with PSVR1

Bryan, you sold me on this game weeks ago just listening to the podcast, so I was happy when it went on sale for $20 the other week. I'm just getting over being sick with Covid the last 2 weeks, and I'm so looking forward to getting back into my VR games and letting this one scare the hell out of me 😅

You got to hand it to Capcom. They got no incentive in making this mode, much less, as good as it is. They aren't only making the best games recently, but also standing out in such a niche market. With so many stumbles made by developers and publishers, Capcom is sitting on top of the pile showing how it is done. Can they repeat that with RE4R VR? Rooting for them.
Oh man I cannot wait for RE 4 in VR - Capcom are totally leading the way in VR
Well in all fairness when Sony hands you $10 million to make a PSVR2 version of Village --- I'd call that a huge incentive lol
@@WithoutParole It is, but we've seen how companies with a lot of money on the line still phone it in, at best. So sure they get compensation, but they go so beyond just doing the minimum, that I think is worthy of recognition. I hope more studios see the potential or that Sony keeps ordering VR versions 😄

Nope, it's an entirely different game. There are more goats in the VR version in the absence of Mercenaries Mode to unlock extra weapons

It's the first game I played on VR2. I love it. Biggest disappointment for me was that you can't earn trophies in VR mode.

The one thing I'm surprised wasn't mentioned in the review is the optional dominant eye calibration. I've always used my right eye for everything, but because of this game I learnt my left eye is actually my dominant eye. VR is amazing, you couldn't learn something like that at a gun range.
Additionally, it's weird and disappointing that the game doesn't make use of the eye tracking at all. And that the subtitles are completely farquared.

It didn't. And I suspect that it won't, unfortunately. Which sucks because going for the plat gave me an excuse to play RE7 about 6 times last gen...

Game is absolutely amazing in vr and my favourite Psvr2 game.
But I’m disappointed that you can’t get trophies while playing the vr mode. It would have added a lot to the replay value and also was possible in RE7 on the Psvr1.

This game is fvcking awesome. It is inconceivable to me that anyone with VR would not love this. Graphics are ps5 crisp it’s like looking around a real place. If they gave trophies I would be replaying it multiple times to get the plat. I love that they keep you in VR mostly - especially the map option and grabbing weapons. Best VR game ever - by far (for me). I do share some concern that this might stay the best game for years unless we get more hybrid games. (Almost all of the best PSVR 1 games were originally flat screen…!)
Let's hope the PlayStation Showcase next week reveals some upcoming AAA hybrids! :D

I'm currently playing it and it's fkg amazing! I've already played it in 2d, which i wish I waited but even still the game makes me jump and scares me shitless in VR like I'm playing it for the first time and that's saying something.

@PSVR2 Without Parole all good at my end my friend, just had a lot of personal darkness to deal with, changed jobs, had a few family changes so haven't done much gaming at all but hoping to get the love back. Its been an utterly joyless existence this past bit of time. I'm.p ee the moon psvr without parole is still kicking ass. I'm so happy for you guys you deserve it. Is polish paul still kicking around?
Man I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully things are getting better and you're on the right track now. And if not --- well you've got friends here to help you through it. We've had some rough times over here too. We lost Dave last year unexpectedly and I don't think any of us have recovered from that yet.

No hopefully it comes to psvr2.
Since they paid Capcom to make it, RE7 falls into the same category as all of Sony's first party PSVR1 games. Hopefully we'll hear about all these games soon. Sony cares enough about the PSVR1 catalog to pay 17-bit to make Song in the Smoke Rekindled so I'm sure they care enough about their *own games* to bring those over too

I actually had more fun with the Quest 2 RE4 exclusive, but both are 10/10 and Village is by far the scariest and most life-like VR experience I've ever played.
I actually wish it was more combat heavy, and that's why I'm like a kid on Christmas Eve waiting for the new RE4 Remake on PSVR2.
I started playing it. I tolerated the beginning when sitting by the couch in game and laying on the ground. But once that first flat cut scene hit, my heart kind of sunk. They did in game cut scenes wonky in the beginning and then a very simple part of the game that should of been vr, wasn't! But I'm an hour and half in or so; so I am confident it'll be great regardless

Just started and I must say vr makes it a lot harder instead of just pressing a button to reload manually loading takes a lot longer and I’m getting destroyed but I do appreciate the mechanic trying to be as real as possible it’s just time consuming but it blew me away when I first loaded in crazy
I have been waiting for this review and it didn't disappoint. I don't have PSVR2 yet (still on PSVR) as I have only just got a PS5. I even have bought RE8 as it was on sale bit other than playing for the first few minutes I think I will wait until I get a PSVR2 headset!

Superb review of what quickly became my all-time favourite gaming experience. For me, that mass of 2D cut-scenes in the final hour or so was the only downer, but easy to overlook. A full-on VR Masterpiece. (I watched your playthroughs too, great fun.) Cheers.
The one thing stoping me playing Resident Evil: Village on my PSVR2 is Capcom not letting us transfer over our save data and forcing us to start a new game in VR, i'm not playing through the game multiple times again just to unlock everything
Unfortunately I don't see it happening. There are more goats in the VR version due to the lack of Mercenaries so you unlock things differently here. It sucks but starting over from scratch will hopefully be fun for you eventually. As much as I enjoy running around with my STAKE that I upgraded with infinite ammo, it kinda kills all the challenge

You can also break boxes by hitting them with your gun btw lol

What blows my mind is WHY the heck didnt sony port re7, astrobot, farpoint,iron man, blooad and truth, rush of blood? GREAT games that we would all 100 percent buy
I never found re7 and re8 that scary even in vt because when you get given a shotgun in the 1st hour of the game there nothing to be afraid of

I actually find the cutscenes quite jarring in VR, snapping you into the scene very often at the wrong angle and sometimes out of place to your body, and I find myself constantly trying to correct my position and posture. don’t get me wrong it’s a good attempt, but for me it doesn’t quite work, whereas the rest of the game is sweet, just a personal view and it may vert well be something I have quite got right in my setup
It seems like the cutscenes are designed for you to stand completely still abd face forward. I'm (fairly) certain that if you don't turn your head at all the game will rotate you accordingly and you *should* end up facing the right way at the end of the cutscene. Don't quote me on that - I skipped all the cutscenes on my second playthrough :D

There are at least a few VR games that I thought were scarier than RE Village. Home Sweet Home was definitely scarier (albeit thanks to jump scares). I guess not everyone thinks The Persistence was that scary, but it sure was to me, with things like teleporting weepers, and whatever those crawling guys were called that sneak up on you anywhere. Parts of Five Nights at Freddy's were up there too, even though I thought the trial-and-error was a cheap shot for many stages.
RE Village was definitely a tier below those in the scare department though, except probably the doll house section. Otherwise, eh, maybe on par with Dreadhalls I guess. For the most part I thought it was more "thrilling" than scary, which is also great.
I had a hard time feeling totally satisfied with Village though, even when I realize that it's its own thing and not really a successor to RE7. The anticipation was huge for me because RE7 is still just such a thing of genius moment to moment and as a whole, regardless of genre.
For me RE Village has a lot of 10/10 moments but a lot of the padding in places messes up the pacing. Like I get what they were trying to do, to make an RE game that felt like it had more wide-open space and felt like an open world a little bit, but it pulled me out of the narrative and the suspense a lot and was even a bit boring. It's really overstated in being episodic with kind of four separate areas (the water area with the dam, all right but not great IMO). The tie-in to the overall lore was actually kind of solid, but came WAY too late in the game. To me it's something more like an 8.5/10 game, even though at many points it's so stellar. And I mean, I don't mind one bit how RE7 doesn't have any true VR controls, but it REALLY does great things for RE Village. I can definitely remember getting chased and rushing to use and turn a key, reloading during a fight, etc, that did great things for the tension.

funny you put this video out now, i just finished re7 and 8 in vr2, even though maybe red dead 2 and ghost of tsushima are comparatively better, playing re7 and 8 in vr2 has been the most mind blowing gaming experience ive ever had. absolutely incredible. anyone reading this who hasnt played re7 and 8 go buy a vr2 and prepare yourself to be beyond amazed

YES! I'm so glad that the media and gamers are FINALLY asking for hybrid VR games. And it seems that PSVR2 is driving a lot of this: the system has had an impressive number of official hybrid games in its short three months, with more on the way!
Think about all the AAA games that VR could have had, if this had been the attitude 10 years ago..
