Hyperbolica Release Delayed

- Unfortunately the release date is getting pushed back a little bit, but the quality improvements during that time should hopefully be worth the extra wait. I really want to make sure this to looks and plays like a full, polished game, and not just a tech demo. Next devlog will be coming soon!

So let's get this straight:
> Better graphics
> VR support
> Potential QOL improvements
> Will release in the same year as Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe
Why would anyone not be perfectly OK with this delay?
whats QOL?
@@ziggyzoggin quality of life
Wait theres a new stanley parable coming out
@@AndrewIHanna It's a remake with extras, I believe. They were porting it to consoles, but the licence for the Source engine is pricy, and it doesn't support current or next gen consoles anyway. They decided to remake it in Unity and add more to it (It's coming to PC too).
NEW STANLEY PARABLE?
:DDDDDDDD
take your time, being good first is better then being 'done' first
@Sean Bennington As scoutmaster Scott used to say, "There's a first time for everything, son."

A game like this? With a full time job? And a family? During covid hours? You're a god for making this game at all. Take all the time you need.
Lets be honest, pretty much EVERYTHING gets delayed. Doesn't matter if it's a Triple A title, a one man project, or a TV show. Stuff happens, it will get delayed.
@@somename5632 nah, some companies still mandates you coming to the office. There's protocol to follow, but some still need to go anyway.
As somebody who just joined the workforce, what the fuck
@@somename5632 i mean quarantine isnt exactly quarantine anymore its more like mask up and social distance is the only thing expected, hell school is even back to being in person around here (canada btw) so i dont think thats really a considerable factor anymore
honestly i dont care when it comes out as long as its polished and your best work I'm fine!

Take your time, this kind of game doesn't happen every year, it needs to be clean.
Looking forward for the game :D
I just wish that he would release a demo, so people could start working on potential mods (Assuming that will in any way be supported); When you look at things like the first months of Minecraft, the community will push the game hard, anyways. But I'm sure OP has his reasons.
Clean? Why not dirty? ;)
That just means more development videos. I see this as an absolute win.
VR support? I would literally buy a headset just to play this game. Take as long as you need, keep up the work!
I think I might 😆
If you want to use VR to explore hyperbolic geometry, Henry Segerman's channel has several great video demonstrations with links to try them yourself.
I would
Me too. I've thinking about getting a 5900 and 3080 or 5600 and 3070+VR and this might tip me over the edge
I hope Hyperrogue gets VR support one day
me: oh shit release is delayed did something happen?
codeparade: so I'm putting all this extra care and effort into my game that's totally a passion project and have decided that I need more time
us: understandable have a great day
@@TheAechBomb literally. lol.
To quote the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto: "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad".
I dunno about everyone else, but I *like* good games. Take as much time as you need.
P.S. I know Miyamoto said that in a time before the internet was widespread and games could easily be patched, but it still applies to some degree. First impressions matter a lot, and a game with a bad launch will turn many people away, some of whom will never give the game a second look. For example, I hear No Man's Sky is actually good now, but I was drawn away by the bad launch. Were it good on launch, I might have bought it. But instead, it's currently relegated to an entry in my "games to maybe play at some point" list. I haven't bought it (yet). I am (at least right now) a missed sale. EDIT MONTHS LATER: Oh, heyyyyyy Cyberpunk 2077. I didn't see you there, what with having not been released yet when I first made this comment. Would you prefer to be the example I cite? Sure, you can be the example I cite.
nah man i love absolutely garbage games
edit: /s
Well, Minecraft would be a good example against that POV. Personally, I would appreciate a demo, cuz it would open up the game to moders, much more. People would be familiar with the ins and outs already, once the game is ready for release.
Shigeru Miyamoto: "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad".
What about Yandere SIM
Melee
I recently started playing No Man's Sky and have ~45 hours in game. Finished the main storyline yesterday night and now I'm basically free to explore.
It's a *really* good game at this point, and I give it a strong recommendation. 😁
The amount of respect this dude should get for not taking any money before finishing is thicc
Don't forget that this is basically a hobby project. Some full time developers really need the early money to literally survive at some point.

The new graphics look awesome. I'll look forward even more now.
I didn't even know there was a release date until now, lol
Oh shit, art looks nice aswell
Oh god VR sound sickening and I’m going to have to borrow a buddies headset to try it
vr support in a game like this would seem super cool!
I will puke lmao

i dont get motion sick but i think i would probably throw up playing this in vr lol i will stick to a flat screen

I am astonished you manage to put this together next to a full-time job and family life! I know from personal experience how much time programming, modelling, and other development takes up. Great project, and don't stress yourself too much :).
Wait longer and get a better game? Seems like a great trade off.
Some games be like:
“Yeah guys, we are gonna take 6 more months but you ain’t gonna have these features cause, you know, hard”
You can buy the DLC tho
If only more people took enough pride in their projects to ship them when they are done, we'd be in a much better place.
Take all the time you need to develop this brillant and interesting idea !
The support and understanding in this comment section makes my heart feel all fuzzy
I appreciate that you're not putting the game out early, and you want to make it better. In the minds of big AAA companies (whose games I don't spend my money on anymore), the faster it gets out, the faster they get their payday. And the worse the game is because it was rushed. Take your time. Make your family a priority. :)
That's fine. I was expecting release in 2022 anyway, so it's a nice surprise.
Hey don't worry about it! I think I speak for everyone here when I say not only is it awesome that you'll be able to make these big improvements, but that your life and family come first and that's totally cool! Keep doing what you're doing, it's awesome
This is the truth.
Doing this as a side project, and UA-cam, and family life? Don’t overstretch yourself, but enjoy what you’re doing with your life. I happily wait.
The concept of the game is really good; it's not a good thing to rush it and ruin it; polishing it is the best choice;
Take your time, and deliver us a game that you feel satisfied with!
Exactly! Imagine if Valve rushed Portal out with only the basic puzzle elements (portals, buttons, etc.) but without any of the world building, memorable characters, or environments. I don't think that it would have been the massive success that it was. So take your time and make it one for the gaming history books!
I'm so excited to hurl repeatedly just non-stop playing Hyperbolica in VR.
I think having more time to polish the graphics will make an overall better game. Rushing game development is one of the things that can reduce quality, so I’m glad you’re taking the time you need!
Take your time dude. This game looks kickass and I'm happy your making sure it's finely tuned and polished. The VR support is just a bonus. Good luck! Can't wait to play!
I've already wishlisted it on Steam, so even if you take years to finish it and I end up totally forgetting about it, I'll still get that notification when you finally do release it. Can't wait!
I just want to say that I LOVE the new art style and implore you to take as long as you need to make the best version possible!
Take as long as you need !!
I'm so glad you felt like taking the time to make this in the first place, and having a better final product is great. Keep up the good work, man.
This isn't FIFA, it doesn't have to be out in a specific time window. Take all the time you need
Although, after it comes out all he has to do is change the title and a couple of character models and he make a “new” one every year from now on.
@Michael Darrow Not to mention the custom formula, which generally includes the characters ⌠, │ and ⌡ arranged in consecutive lines.
HOLY BALLS! I had to pause the video once you mentioned VR support just to comment how *HYPE* that is! Oh boy, oh boy 2021 is the year baby!
Also I don't mind delays, take your time, make it into something you're happy with :)
VR already makes people nauseous enough as it is depicting regular space, lmao
Yeah, the parallax on the positive-curvature sections is going to be killer.
Maybe they should also add a vorpx-like virtual screen implementation, with regular m+kb controls just for the 3D vision. I REALLY want to see these spaces in 3D with my upcoming Reverb G2.
Sounds awesome! Amazing to see what you’ve already done, and the wait seems more than worth it- keep up the amazing work!
Take as much time as you need! I'm excited to see more of your devlogs :-)
Good call on investing in more polish! The new assets look fantastic. I'm really looking forward to this!
Those models look great! Appreciate the update, look forward to seeing more of this project!
the models look much better totally worth the wait!
a small price to pay for salvation
I love how understanding the people in the comments
DUDE it already was amazing, but this quality boost is way MORE amazing. keep it up!
I'm definitely happy to wait longer for you to be happy with it! The new graphics look absolutely incredible, take as much time as you need to make yourself content with your work :)
This is your art and your work dude, release it when you feel that its ready.
I can't wait to pay for this!! I'm so happy that the development is progressing. It is really amazing that you're making it work as a side project!! Take your time in favour of the quality of the experience. I'm so excited that you're even adapting it for VR!!! SO LOOKING FORWARD to it, it will be worth any wait!! :D
Take your time! We all wish you the very best and looking forward for Hyperbolica!
Don't worry about a thing man, the more time you spend on this the better it's gonna be. I think you're doing a significant thing here (especially with VR) by giving people an intuitive understanding of hyperbolic geometry just by being able to walk around in a hyperbolic plane! I think this project alone will give the world more math enthusiasts. It'll be done when it's done, I'm just happy you're doing it!
Dude, you are the engine of progress, the sparkle that ignites few, the hand that makes
Please keep on doing, much respect
Take all the time you need! You got yourself a very interesting project there :)
You've done an amazing job so far and I love your work! Take all the time you need, and thank you so much for being open and keeping us updated!
Keep up the good work!
I'm so happy to hear you're making this project even better!
The amount of time you've taken is more than reasonable (but as a programmer I fell like you could have taken more).
*Coming: When it's ready.*
I did not know u are making this game! Had it on my wishlist for quite some time, cant wait for mid 2021 :D
Those assets really do make the game look so much better, and is the kind of thing to push it from side project to a real game that should be taken seriously.
Okie!
Sounds like a good decision all around! The VR support is especially exciting!
That's totally fine, thanks for being so up front and transparent, waiting a little longer for something that will be better is totally worth it :)
ive always wanted to explore worlds exactly like this in VR, and hearing that it's coming out for it is a definite purchase from me. good luck on the game, and please take your time! it looks really good so far! :D
Absolutely amazed and thrilled with the level of transparency and honesty here, you're an inspiration!
A lot of people are being hella supportive, which I think is really nice, but I think it's also important keep pushing you to making the cool game. The last thing I'd want to see is a project you clearly enjoy making keep getting delayed and delayed until it's eventually abandoned.
That being said, I also think it's important to both polish the game and keep a healthy life outside of development too. Just like everything in life, balance is important.
No matter what though, I'm definitely hype for Hyperbolica. Keep up the good work.
I've been waiting for over ten years for a certain 4D game, so take your time and give us your best!
The art looks incredible! Fantastic upgrade, even more stoked to play now
take as much time as you need, we are all eagerly (and patiently) looking forward to hyperbolica.
I love you for integrating VR support!
Hell yeah, dude, make sure what you release is what you want to release. Mad props for the update, too! Thanks! :D
TOTALLY valid reason for delay. Best of luck to you, and thanks for keeping us all updated.
Very cool. Genuinely appreciate transparency like this in developments.
Yo, ur vids are epic. I'm surprised I'm so early. Take as long as you need with it.
VR Support is amazing thank you for taking it into consideration.
So long as you keep us updated and eventually release the game, no one is going to mind you taking the time to make it better. I get the feeling that if you ever need help with some aspect of this project, there would be plenty of people willing to help out or even just support a kickstarter or something if funding ever becomes a problem.
good for you for making the hard choice! Looking forward to trying a VR version of this mind bender
As long as we get more cool devlogs along the way, I don't see how to see this as anything other than a win/win for everyone involved.
I'm glad you use blender, it's so fantastic!
Best of luck! Thank you for updating us :)
This been sitting in my watch later for a while because of school. But now that I had a chance to watch it, dude, polished over release date always. Take as long as you need
Redoing graphics for the whole game and adding VR features /only/ pushing this back a few months? Impressive! I'm really looking forward to this game when it comes out.
Absolutely man! Take all the time you need. I am so so so looking forward to playing this, especially in VR! You're a legend.
Despite my excitement to see this project come to fruition, I appreciate your transparency in dealing with us, and keeping us up to date on the delays you are going through. I will be patient, keep up the good work!
It'll take how long it needs to. I'll continue watching for updates, and looking forward to torturing my brain a little, when it comes out. Stay safe!
VR support!!
Thank you.
Our debate in the comments on the last video was worth it.
You had me at VR support 🤩
I hope you'll add a "teleportation mode" for VR, because Just moving with a joystick can be very nausea inducing for a lot of people (even in euclidean games lol)
it’s okay, take as much time as you need! we can wait as much as you need to make it look good. i understand how long it takes to envision your dream, so keep on going! we are with you every step of the way!
Honestly as long as this comes out in my lifetime I’ll be absolutely delighted. I can’t deny that I am impatient as hell, but you gotta take care of yourself too, man. Good luck and thanks for continuing to work on such a unique project!
Can’t wait to get high of of confusion with the VR support. Looking forward to the release
I really love what you do, take your time. I am really hyped but I can wait.
This road corner time-lapse was... fascinating ! I was nearly hypnotize by it ^^
All of your videos and projects are labors of love. I'm glad to hear you're delaying.
Take as long as you need man this will be great either way
Man Just take your time! Looking forward to play it!!
Now my most anticipated game of 2021. Looking forward to playing it.
For a concept like this, take all the time you need.
I have only been following this project since late 2019 so I didn't really feel that disappointed. I understand that this project is more of an experiment, to showcase the knowledge and technology we have. rather than an actual game intended for entertainment.
if you have IRL stuff you need to prioritize, sure. hope you be happy in both your family and the project.
Bro. Take the time u need. I think most of us are here more to see the development and learning of this project. I’m hype for the dev logs more than the release. Still excited for release tho
I thought it said release date, and now im sad but also happy your making the textures better, take all of the time you need
This game in vr is gonna be trippy
It's ready when it's ready. You can't rush art.
so much respect for your honesty and sincerity in your game making. keep up the good work man
Wow you got a busy life. Hope the development continues smoothly
im just glad you are being transparent. its something game developers (and people as a whole) should do more often. we dont strictly need a full life story but something a bit more understandable that "cos i did". you have a reason(s) for delaying it and you stated them (artistic rework and life). thats good enough for me. perhaps to help satiate our eagerness you could have a stab at a 360 video/image of one of the areas? just an idea im throwing out there. i dont actually know what goes into creating a 360 video nor if it can be done easily and relatively quickly but if it CAN then that might be something to consider throwing our way on the old release window?
got a question btw. could we possibly see some sort of map maker/model loader tool. nothing fancy. more like throwing a mesh into a "custom content" folder and being able to load the 3D object into the hyperbolic "space" to see how it is affected? if you did something like that i wouldn't expect it on release (i dont "expect" it at all. just throwing an idea out there) but more of a content update later.
All the support for you and your project!
Massively hyped for vr support. With the quest 2 coming out vr is getting more and more accessible, soon it's 100% gonna be as mainstream as owning a playstation or Xbox
As long as I don't die before it comes out, I don't mind how long it takes.
