- In this episode of #askjr, we asked Dale:
● Do your daughters realize it's your voice in 'Cars'?
● Where did the origin of the 88 number come from?
● Is there a specific fan tattoo that stands out in your mind?
● How did NBC's pre-race grid walk happen and how do they get you up to the booth?

51 Rowdy Burns Days of Thunder, 28 Davey Allison, 88 Darrell Waltrip, Bobby Allison & Dale Jarrett , now Kyle is in the 8 😂 tattoos are pretty 😅 hard to remove
What a great story about the the number 88 choice! Much better than #28
I’ve autocrossed for years and also had some dirt bikes and always used #51. Dick Butkus was my favorite football player of all time and that was his number on da Bears
I saw an office on tv when i was younger and it was a large space with small houses as offices. Each employee could customize their own place. I have always thought if i had millions then that's what i would build to live in with family and friends.
Cool story about the 51. When I was a little kid, I was very much into all things aeronautical, space, and sci-fi. And I was completely fascinated with the lore and stories surrounding Area 51. The number, to me, carried a sense of mystery and felt sort of sinister. So when I began racing quarter midgets and my dad asked me what number we were going to paint on the car, it had to be 51. Had no idea Dale ever considered it.
All of this has been talked about on an earlier episode of AskJr in relation to the car number. I just can't tell you which one, without watching most of them back over again
Great segment Dale Jr!
I've been calling for shorter pre-race for so long. There's just no need to talk for an hour or even 30 mins before the race. 10-15 mins to set the scene and fire those engines! That gives you 30 mins on the back end instead of 15 max.
Haha, I bet Herman will take exception to "81's not a cool number" His SquareD 81 was an electrifying ride 😂😂
loved the CARS movie thanks to all the drivers who gave us their voices
The camera with the cars going by I did like
Wasn't their a #88 mountain dew cars well before Jr? Darrell Waltrip??? I crap that was Gatorade but that would have been a great throwback an get for all parties!
Waltrip's dew car was the 11.
Yates brought the 28 back in 2008 with Kvapil, ran the whole season, and scored a pole in the Talladega race Edwards took you and everybody else out in. Same race Stewart won taking DEI with Regan below the yellow to win. Surprised you don't remember this offhand
I love this show
Wish it was longer!!!!!
Really enjoyed this podcast! They're ALL good, but this was one of the best!
So the number 6.7 was out of the question? LOL
Hey Dale Jr.
Fontana is my home track, was there in Feb 2023🌨️ weekend!
can’t find 2024 Cup schedule?
Called Station 73 FD (next to AutoClub Speedway) they said no DEMOLITION yet?
Is Cup having 2nd thoughts?💭
Fontana was still best race 2023🏁
LA Coliseum will never be Fontana🏆
What have you heard?
I heard you were able to patent the #8 font from DEI recently. Is that true?
Don't forget, Kenny Irwin Jr passed in the 28 @ New Hampshire. (Same year as Adam, if I recall.) The 28 and Texaco with Ernie Irvin too... Yeah 28 is legacy.
They killed Kenny in the 42 car recently purchased by chip. But he did drive the 28 first
@@scubasteev you're right. Totally forgot about that number change.
@@Wklambert It wasn't really a number change. Yates let Irwin go and he signed with Chip Ganassie to drive the 42.
I recall wanting the new number to be 81 as you could say it "8-1" where phonetically you could hear it as "8-won".
He did have that number as the number for one of his Busch series cars for a little bit not that he drove but Stuart drove in 81 for junior in the Daytona race at least one year and won
JR drove the 81 a lot in 2003-2006, & won like 4 or 5 races in that number for his busch cars... Well DEI whatever
@@KyleLeeuw Yea, I have one of the diecasts. KFC I think. Chance 2 Motorsports actually.
@@allglorytogod12 yeah i have it too. Yeah whatever what i meant was, Chance 2 was started by JR & Teresa, as a BUSCH version of DEI! And his cup crew worked on those 81 cars
Does junior think they will ever have the chance to get to into the deer head shop ? Or have they tried to reach out to teresa ?
She would rather let it rot to the ground then let her husband's own kids have any part of his legacy! So very sad!
Perhaps seeking out the Neil Bonnet interview video on UA-cam, with Dale Earnhardt, would be the best chance of seeing inside the Deer head shop
When The movie Sound of Freedom... exposes Hollyweird and Nascar .Yes Nascar... let's see how he feels about secret rooms
Maaaaaan if they could ever do a dirty mo pod cast in the deerhead shop....earnhart fans would "shoot up" (blow up) the internet.....if that happens then some metal fabricater should take parts of a old cray supercomputer
And cut &shape it into a deer head and mount that on the wall in the deer head shop as a trophy...
Call it the "cray (previously super) deer."
@@ChristopherWHerbert the old TV show dream car garage (legendary motor cars) did a interview in the deer head shop with Dale earnhart SR. WEEKS right before he died at daytona.
This interview is on you tube.
speaking of number I wonder why they never had a race between Denny driving the FED_X truck against Dale driving the UPS one
28 will always and forever be Davey Allison ❤. I understand why they didn't want you driving a number 28 car because I'm sure they were afraid you would overshadow Davey's legacy.
Huh? Like, ernie, dale jarrett Kenny Irwin, robby Gordon ruined Dave's legacy?
@@scubasteev Only a Earnhardt could possibly overshadow Davey Allison. Just look at the number 88.... Who's the first person that pops into your head when you think 88, Dale Earnhardt jr.! Not Darrell Waltrip, not Ernie or Dale Jarrett
Davey's career was length and life span was minor but his impact was insane. The man won 10% of the cup races he ran, won when he thought the worst tragedy I personally could imagine happened even, was a top 50 driver all time in 98 before they made a joke of the list with Chase Elliot already being mentioned, as well as 2023s, oh yeah, and fucking Aerosmith was at his service. Absolute legend!
I don't have Twitter but I do submit questions on the Facebook forum. Please have Alex Bowman on soon 🙂
He was on the nashville episode it was fun lol
@@GiovanniTiradoGT Yes , finally !
How ironic is it that that 88 would be Jeff Gordon's final ride of his career
How's that ironic?? What is the significance of that number with Jeff other than him driving it filling in for Jr there??
The 28 RYR Texaco has been driven by Davey Allison, Ernie Irvin, Dale Jarrett, Ernie again, Ricky Rudd. Then M&M's left #36. RYR renumbered 28 to 38 for Elliott Sadler. He was same ht. and build as Dale J.
You left out Kenny Irwin.
#88 was perfect
Dale Junior please come to Fontana Dam August 2-6 for Miatas At The Gap!! The Tail Of The Dragon needs to be sleighed by you!!
Pretty sure he don't ride bikes
@@diychad7268 huh?? Bikes? This is a huge event for sports cars, not bikes.
I can't wait for the new series because your Dad IS THE GREATEST RACE CAR DRIVER EVER TO SIT IN THE SEAT AND RACE!!! HE INHERITED A LOT OF HIS WAYS FROM HIS DADDY AND YOUR PRECIOUS GRANDDADDY RALPH WHO I WAS BLESSED ENOUGH TO MEET AND SEE HIM FREQUENTLY AT OUR LOCAL DIRT TRACK THE OLD COLUMBIA SPEEDWAY IN CAYCE SOUTH CAROLINA!!! RALPH WAS TOUGH AS STEEL AND DIDN'T TAKE NO JUNK FROM ANYBODY!! When he pulled in the pits in the infield which is where we always parked. You could wander through and mix and mingle with everyone that was anybody from Nascar's inception. Lee Petty Richard's Dad, Buck Baker Buddy Baker's Dad, Junior Johnson, Tiny Lund, Bobby Isaac, Fireball Roberts, Donnie and Bobby Allison, Fred Lorenzen, Ralph Earnhardt, and a whole host of other greats at the time. Your Granddaddy Ralph was a pistol!! When he parked his truck and trailer and he unloaded his car, NO BODY WAS EVER CLOSE TO HIS CAR!! IT WAS RACE READY!! OTHER DRIVER'S WOULD BE TWEAKING SOMETHING OR CHANGING SOMETHING BUT NOT RALPH!!! ONE THURSDAY NIGHT SOME GUY THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO RALPH'S CAR TO SEE WHAT HE'D DONE TO MAKE IT WORK SO GOOD AND WHEN RALPH SAW HIM, HE YELLED AT HIM HE BETTER NOT COME ANY CLOSER BUT THIS GUY WAS EITHER HARD HEADED OR TO DRUNK TO CARE, SO HE KEPT COMING AND WHEN HE WAS 6 TO 8 FEET FROM RALPH'S CAR, RALPH YELLED AGAIN BUT THIS TIME HE HAD GRABBED A TIRE IRON AND STARTED TOWARDS THAT MAN!! I'VE NEVER SEEN A GROWN MAN RUN SO FAST IN MY LIFE😂😂😂 I THINK HE RAN COMPLETELY OUT OF THE RACE TRACK THROUGH THE BACK GATE. EVERYBODY THAT SAW IT WAS LAUGHING LIKE CRAZY AND CHEERING BECAUSE THEY KNEW THAT RULE,NO BODY GETS CLOSE TO RALPH'S CAR UNLESS IT WAS HIS PIT CREW DURING A RACE IF HE NEEDED SOMETHING CHANGED!!! IT WAS PRICELESS!!!We went dirt track racing every Thursday night at The Old Columbia Speedway and it was always a packed house!!! Their announcer was hysterically funny too but I can't remember his name right now. Love you ALL Dale ,family and crew of Dirty Mo Media 💞🤗💞👍 I love these stories. They're precious priceless treasured BLESSINGS and memories for forever!!! Thanks for sharing these awesome stories!!! 💞🤗💞🙏🏻🙌🏻🙏🏻🏁🏆🏁🫡🇺🇸🫡🇺🇸🏁🏆🏁
I remember the 8.8 tattoo commercials😅
Talk to the guys in back of field all the time . See what they have to say!
RCR ran a few races with Kerry in a 83 = Grandfather Ralph's # + their Dad Dale Sr's most famous #.
like the hat junior. where did you get it from?
Do it like an early 90s style ESPN where it shows the drivers picture and their car because every drivers paint scheme changes from week to week so with a casual fan they will be able to know what their driver is driving this week what color the car is
99 Dick Trickle is tough🏁
I will always associate 38 with Sadler. Glad it’s on my MnM jacket so people don’t think I’m a Kyle Busch fan 😂
The Maestro of Mayhem #51 Dick Butkus!
Funny how mike didnt know about the 28 story yet i did because jr has talked about it on the show with him before lol
Since Dale talked about movies it took Brad Keselowski 40 takes to say a couple of words 💀
wasnt 51 Neil Bonnet's # Country Time??
Movie star Dale
28 is Davis number
All that prerace stuff is like eating jello before the meal.
I met your dad at the yuba city mall
Was 51 the # SVG ran?
"another lawsuit"
Is the tattoo in 1/24 scale ? LOL
Radio style doesn't belong on the tv
I don’t use Twitter since Musk purchased it.
I cant tell the difference sometimes between jeff and dale .
What?? They don't look or sound alike at all lol
Mike Davis says 'I do not know this'. When he was present in an earlier episode of AskJr when a similar question was asked and answered in relation to the number 88. Perhaps not in the same detail, but most certainly similar in nature of the answer.
All those masculine numbers and no 69
In regard to the number 51 not having any significance. You better hope like hell that Dick Butkus doesn’t listen to this podcast!
God what a contrast the race at Atlanta was over the crap show in Chicago. Opposite ends of the spectrum literally..
Nascar is going woke… they don’t care… I hope it kills the sport at this point
Broadcast or race?
@@diychad7268 The race but I am not thrilled with the broadcast much anymore either. These producers, etc. need to remember the old adage "Too many cooks spoil the broth"..
Don't underestimate your daughters. I guarantee you the oldest makes the connection of your voice and the character in the movie. Kids are way more savvy than we think as parents. Don't kid yourself
Thank God less pre race junk.
Atlanta was NOT a good race. I'm disappointed that it's being touted as so great. Passing? Yes, but using your ability and ingenuity to pull away? Not anymore. Everyone gets a trophy. I sure wish the ones who have any kind of voice would speak up. Chasing ratings is the best way to fail. Dover added seats every year when it was real, 500 miles, 2 cautions, 6 cars on the lead lap...but nothing was manufactured...it was real hard nosed stock car racing. Why is that too much to ask for in 2023? Because video games? Incredible
