"in 1998 I was racing at Daytona." Bro, I remember this race. I feel like the 90's was THE decade that NASCAR was at its absolute peak. It's probably become more popular technically... but that era was just such an amazing time to be alive through. A massive part of the sport died the day this mans father passed away on the race track. You could feel it in the air even if you weren't at the track. It changed the sport forever. I had a childhood friend who's parents had their ENTIRE house decked out in Dale Earnhardt stuff... thinking back I bet they made a LOT of money on some of that stuff. But yea Jr. and Gordon were new on the scene and were soo good.. Senior was a veteran along with countless others that were still racing at the time. It was just an amazing time for the sport and as a kid growing up I can't thank these people enough for just making that such a special time for SO many people. Hopefully one day the sport gets that "passion" back. After Gordon and Jr. retired that was just the nail in the coffin for so many people. I still enjoy the sport but just not like I use to. NASCAR was like a way of life lol
I never liked Nascar...but growing up then, I knew more than a few Families like that. They all had their Favorite Driver, and it would be an entire Family behind that one Driver...and it was usually Dale or Jeff Gordon. Nascar Fans were possibly the most Fanatic of all the Sports Fanbase.
It's a joy to hear Jr talk about Dale Sr, their relationship has always been much akin to my own relationship with my dad. That and my dad was such a huge fan of Sr back in the day. That guy is a legend.

I drove the NASCAR experience in Las Vegas and I remember thinking the same thing. Only going 150mph but going into the turn thinking no way! I’m a causal NASCAR fan and followed JR throughout his racing career. His personality and persona his textbook how to act when you are the son of a famous person. He has always been humble, self deprecating and is a fan like all of his father. Stand up guy 👍🏼👍🏼
The most astonishing thing about this interview is how Dale jr. has remained humble and normal throughout a lifetime of being surrounded by fame, astronomical money and intense scrutiny.. I know some people will be squeamish regarding the part about Dale Sr being strict and 'whipping out the belt', but I'm positive that played a major role in Dale Jr's attitude and disposition today.. That and the fact that he was taught to pay for his own things as a young guy.. Making $100 payments on a used truck as an 18 year old is the PERFECT way for a kid to learn the value of things..
Dale Earnhardt Jr: When I flipped my car it wasn’t that scary because your strapped in so tight Joe: That’s insane, but have you ever done DMT while driving a race car?
Look how happy he was telling that story. He was reliving the exact moment as he spoke. Hence all the detail. The fact that Joe was silent probably helped him dive even deeper into the moment. ⚡
@Beaujangles McJiggle not a Nascar fan really but his dad Dale Sr. Was one of the most popular most successful Nascar driver's ever. His nickname was the intimidater. Jr. Was probably even more popular and a highly successful driver also. Not as much as his dad but as jr said in this interview he added to his dad's legacy not hurt it. He drove for 14 years having many wins and even cup wins. He only retired due to concussions
Amazing guy. I'm not really into nascar but I have a lot of respect for this dude. Had to be horrifying to see his father in that wreck. The ONLY time in my whole life I ever watched nascar happened to be the race his father died in. Never forget it. I was like 8... He had to have seen it, and its forever going to be on video. Feel really terrible for him to have seen that.
I would hate to have lost my Dad like that (my actual Dad, I'd drown him in the tub) but there's no better way for Dale Sr to go out than how he did. If you had to choose anything besides "getting old and sick and dying" about everyone would pick the way Dale went out.
He didn’t see it because he was ahead of his dad. Dale, Sr. was trying to hold everyone back so teammates Michael Waltrip and Dale, Jr. could place 1-2.
@@dawgsfan1196 yea nothing handed to him just fully funded Budweiser sponsorship with a million dollar salary and 65 percent of nascars fans after sr died🙄🙄
Such a shame people can only compare Earnhardt Jr to his father. Talent usually doesn’t run in the family, we’re lucky to be blessed with his presence on the track. Not every father and son is Dell and Steph Curry, Earnhardt Jr is great in his own light. He’s not on the level of Sr. but he doesn’t have to be! It’s amazing to hear him speak on his career and his fathers legacy. He’s quite the personality!
Dale Jr. is one of the most humble good guys to ever race. Ive always been a big fan of him because of this, his Dad was a badass and abrasive which is what we all loved about him but Jr. is more humble and nice. I actually crashed my Sierra truck in November almost exactly how Dale Jr did, my right leg was crushed by the dash and my hands were torn up but I was perfectly fine everywhere else. If you look at the truck, youd think theres no way the person survived, but I did. They had to cut me out though.
What a cool guy. Would love to grow up like he did. Ive flipped a truck like that and his commentary is legit! True man with balls that kept his cool!!!

@@hughjair133 I can only imagine Joe's reaction to seeing some of the videos and being like "wtfff". Yeah NASCAR is dangerous but not anywhere even close to the TT. It makes NASCAR look like little boys having fun on a go kart track. Every corner is life threatening. And some of the passes are just UNREAL. He would be absolutely blown away
I can’t imagine a more likable person, a more down-to-earth guy than Dale Jr. We both come from the same area in North Carolina and I can honestly say that I’ve never heard anyone speak bad of Jr. He’s a great representative of the sport. Don’t know how I’m just now seeing this interview. Two of my favorites together and I knew this would be awesome - I was right.
I was in a flipping car. Not much you can do at that point, and your mind is too blown to panic. I was a passenger, so I gripped the seatbelt in front of my chest and watched the trees spin around a few times. There was a boombox in the backseat, it flew about a hundred feet away. Good thing nobody was back there...
Yeah gripping the shoulder belt with both hands, I really felt secure, relatively speaking. The car ran off the road in a curve, and the driver overcompensated, so we started sliding sideways to the inside of the curve, and I had a second or two so that's when I grabbed the belt and shrunk down a bit in my seat. (Just naturally or accidentally, not sure why I grabbed like that) We did two rolls with the passenger side hitting the ground first (I vaguly remember seeing the grass in the window beside me) The driver had no seatbelt and was bouncing off the roof. When we stopped, I asked if he was ok, and when he said yes, I burst out laughing. He thought I was laughing at him, and remarked it was messed up I was laughing, but then he started laughing, too. Really I was just laughing at the experience, because I was just flipping but I wasn't hurt, like I had cheated death, and I was relieved.
I'll never forget Dale Sr.s death, and how much that impacted so many people even to this very day. I'll also never forget that crash Dale Jr. had in that Corvette in Sonoma many years back. It's a miracle he survived that, that car was fully engulfed in flames and it's crazy that he was able to pull himself out. I remember Jr. saying he was searching all over to thank the guy who pulled him out, and he couldn't believe that he managed to climb out until he saw it on film. Some one was looking over him that day, that's for damn sure. I have all the respect in the world for Dale Jr. He's had to endure some of the most painful hardships in life in the public eye, and that can''t be easy.
This is why Junior was NASCAR's most popular driver for fifteen consecutive years. Intelligent. Articulate. Funny. Gracious. Down to earth. I'm glad now that he will always be with us.

I’m a causal NASCAR fan and followed JR throughout his racing career. His personality and persona his textbook how to act when you are the son of a famous person. He has always been humble, self deprecating and is a fan like all of his father. Stand up guy 👍🏼👍🏼
“ and I D-stroyed this truck”
The most astonishing thing about this interview is how Dale jr. has remained humble and normal throughout a lifetime of being surrounded by fame, astronomical money and intense scrutiny..
I know some people will be squeamish regarding the part about Dale Sr being strict and 'whipping out the belt', but I'm positive that played a major role in Dale Jr's attitude and disposition today.. That and the fact that he was taught to pay for his own things as a young guy.. Making $100 payments on a used truck as an 18 year old is the PERFECT way for a kid to learn the value of things..
damn, I cracked up so bad when he said "I flipped my pickup truck on christmas day"
He's so casual about disaster.
Daniel straight up Theo Von type delivery lmaooo
I read this comment as they said it nigga😂😂😂

Dale Earnhardt Jr: When I flipped my car it wasn’t that scary because your strapped in so tight
Joe: That’s insane, but have you ever done DMT while driving a race car?
Junior’s not the guy to ask about that. When Joe sits down with Jeremy Mayfield, that’s when he should ask lol
Look how happy he was telling that story. He was reliving the exact moment as he spoke. Hence all the detail. The fact that Joe was silent probably helped him dive even deeper into the moment. ⚡
There is a reason he's been the most popular nascar driver since his dad died. Down to earth guy.
Life is complete!.!.!... Dale Jr on the Joe Rogan podcast.
Are you in a roaming gang of Tom brokaws?
Dale should give his talk about his experiences flipping cars in a physics class because it's pretty damn accurate
always been around aero and physics
Junior is such a well-adjusted human being. No silver spoon with his cat
Dale should make t-shirts that say, "does it grip" id buy one
Real life Ricky Bobby
Yeah they modeled ricky bobby as a spoof for dale. He's actually in the movie.
Help me baby Jesus
CHIP!!!!
southbeachtalent DONT YOU PUT THAT EVIL ON ME RICKY BOBBY
I can just imagine Dale thinking "Yep, I'm flyin through the air. This is not good."
I watched it all of my life and grew to love Dale Sr. #3
It was the last race I ever watched and I was almost 40 at the time.
Peace
I would hate to have lost my Dad like that (my actual Dad, I'd drown him in the tub) but there's no better way for Dale Sr to go out than how he did. If you had to choose anything besides "getting old and sick and dying" about everyone would pick the way Dale went out.
He didn’t see it because he was ahead of his dad. Dale, Sr. was trying to hold everyone back so teammates Michael Waltrip and Dale, Jr. could place 1-2.
It's funny to hear Dale Jr. talk about owning a used truck and paying it off at $100 per month. Now, he's worth about $300 million....
That's cause he never had anything handed down to him
His Dad made his kids earn it.. the Bitch of a stepmother walked off with Sr's money !
Damn it cost 300 million to buy dale jr
@@dawgsfan1196 yea nothing handed to him just fully funded Budweiser sponsorship with a million dollar salary and 65 percent of nascars fans after sr died🙄🙄
@@jerradguillory7909 you know good and well I'm talking about as he was working his way up, not after he made the cup series
Dale Had me hooked to his story, good story teller and very funny🤣👍🏾
Such a shame people can only compare Earnhardt Jr to his father. Talent usually doesn’t run in the family, we’re lucky to be blessed with his presence on the track. Not every father and son is Dell and Steph Curry, Earnhardt Jr is great in his own light. He’s not on the level of Sr. but he doesn’t have to be! It’s amazing to hear him speak on his career and his fathers legacy. He’s quite the personality!
He just seems like such a nice person
Dale, thanks for telling these great stories about you and your dad. You are good people.
Flipping your truck with a hammer drill loose in the truck is a bad idea too!!
Douglas Scott nice one Douglas
My buddy was in a flipping geo tracker with a loose bowling ball....It went everywhere he said
@@missioncodez Good story...If it`s true, I don`t know, he was 50/50 on his stories
@@Turk_2023 Geo Tracker and a bowling ball? Tell your buddy to save some pussy for the rest of us!!
Dale Jr. is one of the most humble good guys to ever race.
This got recommended to me the day after Newman crashed his car very badly in the Daytona 500.
That was a wild crash
Thank god he's alive
What a cool guy. Would love to grow up like he did. Ive flipped a truck like that and his commentary is legit! True man with balls that kept his cool!!!
My two favorite podcasters in an interview together. These guys need to do another interview!
I've genuinely enjoyed these clips with Dale Jr, and I'm not a race fan in the slightest. Thanks for uploading!
DEI for life. Thank you DJ for all the memories! I wasnt old enough to watch your dad live but I followed you from 2001 when I was 7 until you retired, and youre as important to Nascar every bit as your dad was. You the man.
I could listen to him tell a story all day it's insane, reminds me of my grandpa
Joe has a great show. Much better than late night t.v. talk shows.
Alexander Elkorek honestly the greatest talk show of all time.
Dale sr. Was the absolute best NASCAR driver in history legends never die 3
I think dying kinda instantly excludes him...
Richard petty
Cameron Angel nah tom cruise was much better. He was the best in his mellow yellow car
Cameron Angel I'm sorry honey it's Richard Petty! hands down!
Jeff gordon
I feel like Joe wore that hat because he had a southern guest
Pre-Packaged _ .
Joe calls it southern hospitality...lmao!!😂💀
As if he is just a southern guest. It's Dale Jr, and more important. The son of Dale. These men are legends.
@@falsedragon33 thank you for saying that! These are solidified legends well known in all of motorsport worldwide!! Not just country bumpkins from north cackolacky like everyone thinks lol
Warms my heart how similar and relatable Dale is to my experience with my dad.
Dale to his insurance agent: **southern accent** “Now listen we was WYDE open”
Nice! I wish Joe would have a Moto GP rider on the show. Particularly on who has competed in the TT. I would love to see his reaction to the sport.
There are no GP racers that have also competed in the TT. Problem is most GP racers don't speak English so well, Roger Hayden would be a good guest though.
Dan Wickersham rossi rode the tt course once and said “fuck that shit” in Italian.
@@wyckedan Really? None at all? That's surprising! In that case maybe I don't mean moto gp, but instead, just superbike and super sport racers in general. There are several racers from the UK who speak English and have competed in the TT tho and he needs to get one of them on the show!!!
He needs Guy Martin on the show.
I used to want to be a Nascar driver cause of this guy. Such a legend.
If I want to the follow the sport is it...Stock Nascar?
Just nascar
Dale 'my arms went this way' Earnhardt Jr.
If I could hang with any driver it would of been this dude. Such a down to earth kinda guy who represented the sport like no other.
Such a humble dude.
Sheesh
Jonathan Ryals great points: grab the wheel or the safety belt.
(Just naturally or accidentally, not sure why I grabbed like that) We did two rolls with the passenger side hitting the ground first (I vaguly remember seeing the grass in the window beside me)
The driver had no seatbelt and was bouncing off the roof.
@@jonathanryals9934 +1
did yall manage to recover the boom box? and hook it up again? i heard them things dont break...
I couldn't watch Nascar if you paid me, but he's a pretty legit dude

It’s beautiful science
A Link to the Past
And horribly boring. Kind of like calculus, beautiful science, but wow is it boring to watch others apply it to problems.
Nascar is fucking amazing
Love this interview God bless you Jr. Thank you for all the years of having someone to watch and root for. Especially on the big tracks.
I have never been so captivated listening to someone talk. Wow.
That's amazing.
Great story teller. And a great guy. Respect
Dale "Wide Open" Earnhardt.
That’s actually a dope nickname
Dale Jr is such a solid dude.
This is why Junior was NASCAR's most popular driver for fifteen consecutive years. Intelligent. Articulate. Funny. Gracious. Down to earth. I'm glad now that he will always be with us.
