So accurate. But it also shows that Charlotte Lucas's advice to Jane was on point that she needed to show more affection. It's Stourhead a National Trust property. The gardens are so beautiful you can go right up to this folly looking down at the lake. I think it's called the Temple of Venus or Apollo, can't remember which. It's amazing to visit.
The way Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy wanted to kiss each other after their arguments, Feels like they want to kiss each other, but it doesn't feel right at that moment
I like this kind of fighting because they're not fighting because they hate each other or want to hurt each other, they fight because they feel a lot of passion for one another but both have very strong principles and expectations in life and in this moment those expectations are not meeting.. yet.
To qualify for a great love, you have to become a great person. Like attracts like, quality-wise! Are you equal to your dream? It takes a lot of work! Best wishes to you.
To be in a place like this must have been like heaven. You don't get an in depth view, but given the angle of the lake with the trees and the architecture, I imagine it's amazingly breathtaking. The fact it's raining makes it that much more so, let alone this fiery scene~ I hate getting suckered into romantic movies, but this is one scene I would absolutely love to be in myself even with all the drama.
It's Stourhead Gardens. Check the weather forecast and make sure it's raining (it's England so that won't be hard lol) and go visit. It's open to the public.
I adore the 1995 Pride and Prejudice very much but I also think the 2005 has very beautiful cinematography and scores, and I think this version's Lizzie and Darcy's chemistry is subdued but STROOOOONG and I looooove it.
Each and every line is delivered (by these actors) like a sword fight among two experts who are evenly matched and respectful of one another................ because they LOVE each other deeply. Watch their eyes................... and how she waits for his kiss of reassurance! They love each other but must come to terms over this recent development.
This scene was a masterpiece bringing out all the feelings that were suppressed, but deep down true love and attraction. Us human beings are a complicated species, our love, hate, desires, passions.... at the end of the day we all need love in our life to become whole!
Both had to overcome hurdles, set up by society but more significantly the ones inside their own hearts, in order to reach each other. A beautiful and masterful rendition of Beauty and the Beast archetypal energies. We are complicated indeed.
3:29 That little "Please" gets me everytime. As if he's begging to let him kiss her and not walk away. The raw passion and want for his lips to finally touch hers. Ugh such a perfect scene.
Because in that one moment he finally shows the passion of how much he really loves her and how much walking away right there hurts him. But he's going to respect her choices and that matters so much especially back then.
3:13 And those are the words of a gentleman. From the first moment I met you, your arrogance and conceit, your selfish disdain for the feelings of others made me realize that you were the last man in the world I could ever be prevailed upon to marry.
I love them so much, she rejected (and humbled) him so much that he saw the error of his ways, and he changes. He sends her the letter explaining everything that happened with Wickam, he pays for Kitty and Wickam’s wedding, and he brings Bingley back so Bingley can marry Jane.
I, too, would run out in the rain after hearing dire news like this, and I, too, would dash the hopes of Mr. Darcy, only to regret it profusely later. It is what all good heroines do.
DARCY: Miss Elizabeth, I have struggled in vain and I can bear it no longer. These past months have been a torment. I came to Rosing’s with the single object of seeing you, I had to see you. I fought against my better judgment, my family’s expectation, the inferiority of your birth, my rank and circumstance, all these things and I am willing to put them aside and ask you to end my agony. LIZZIE: I don’t understand- DARCY: I love you… most ardently. Please do me the honor of accepting my hand. LIZZIE: Sir, I- I appreciate the struggle you have been through and I am very sorry to have caused you pain. Believe me, it was unconsciously done. DARCY: Is this your reply? LIZZIE: Yes sir. DARCY: Are you- are you laughing at me? LIZZIE: No. DARCY: Are you rejecting me? LIZZIE: I’m sure that the feelings which as you’ve told me have hindered your regard will help you in overcoming it. DARCY: Might I ask with why so little.. endeavor at civility I must re- LIZZIE: And I might as well enquire why with so evident a design of insulting me you chose to tell me that you like me against your better judgement? DARCY: No, believe me, I- LIZZIE: If I was uncivil, then that is some excuse, but I have other reasons, you know I have! DARCY: What reasons? LIZZIE: Did you think that anything might tempt me to accept the man who has ruined perhaps forever the happiness of a most beloved sister? Do you deny it, Mr. Darcy? That you separated a young couple who loved each other, exposing your friend to the center of the world for caprice and my sister to its derision for disappointed hopes? And involving them both in misery of the acutest kind? DARCY: I do not deny it. LIZZIE: How could you it? DARCY: Because I believed your sister indifferent to him. LIZZIE: Indifferent? DARCY: I watched them most carefully and realized his attachment was far deeper than hers. LIZZIE: That’s because she’s shy! DARCY: Bingley too was modest and was persuaded she didn’t feel strongly for him. LIZZIE: Because you suggested it. DARCY: I did it for his own good! LIZZIE: My sister hardly shows her true feelings to me! … I suppose you suspected his, his fortune had some bearing- DARCY: -No, I wouldn’t do your sister the dishonor, though it was suggested- LIZZIE: What was? DARCY: It was made perfectly clear that an advantageous marriage- LIZZIE: Did my sister give that impression? DARCY: No! No... No. There was however, I have to admit, the matter of your family- LIZZIE: A want of connection!? Mr. Bingley didn’t seem to vex himself about that. DARCY: No, it was more than that. LIZZIE: How so? DARCY: It was the lack of propriety shown by your mother, your three younger sisters, even on occasion your father! …. Forgive me. You and your sister I must exclude from this. LIZZIE: And what about Mr. Wickham? DARCY: Mr. Wickham? LIZZIE: What excuse can you give your- your behavior towards him? DARCY: You take an eager interest in that gentlemen’s concerns. LIZZIE: He’s told me of his misfortunes. DARCY: Oh yes, his misfortunes have been very great indeed. LIZZIE: You ruin his chances and yet you treat him with sarcasm? DARCY: So this is your opinion of me. Thank you for explaining so fully. Perhaps these offenses might’ve been overlooked had not your pride been hurt- LIZZIE: My pride!? DARCY: -by my honesty in admitting scruples about our relationship. Could you expect me to rejoice in the inferiority of your circumstances? LIZZIE: And those are the words of a gentleman? From the first moment I met you, your arrogance and conceit, your selfish disdain for the feelings of others made me realize that you were the last man in the world I could ever be prevailed upon to marry. ** AAAAAAAAAAHHHH** DARCY: Forgive me… Madame. For taking up so much of your time.
@@psalmthyme8192 My guess is that Charlotte Lucas Collins's family knew that Charlotte invited Lizzy as a her guest in her home. I believe that Charlotte's family, perhaps unwittingly, may have tipped off Mr. Darcy, who in turn, decided to visit his aunt and brought his cousin along as his wingman (modern-day jargon). From the movie, Charlotte seems more than a little interested in the interactions between Darcy and Lizzy, starting with the Netherfield Ball when she told Lizzy that she would find Darcy amiable when she danced with him. What did Lizzy do to Mr. Darcy after he paid Lizzy a visit at parsonage and left abruptly. I believe Charlotte told Darcy and that she and Reverend Collins would be absent the parsonage when Darcy showed up.
At 7:07 she looks like a person in shock to me. She realize she will never see him again and that makes her realize she loves him. She literaly broke up with her loved one during his marriage proposal.
@@lua_moura true, she was still conflicted about him. i think she was in shock but its because the heat of the moment was over and she fully realizes what just happened.
She's already in love with him here after she rejects him and she shows how much she wants to kiss him too when he leans on her, but she struggles not to. Esp after read his letter, it kinda ruins her prejudice about him, and regret
Fina, I disagree. Being attracted to someone is different from being in love, and while Darcy was already in love, Elizabeth was not. Especially not when from her perspective Darcy had insulted her and ruined the chance of happiness of the people she cared for.
@@msk-qp6fn She did hated him, but she unconcsiously 'in love' with him actually, yet it's just a little, not as strong feeling as Darcy. If it wasn't, then why she felt so depressed and regretful after she found out about Darcy's feeling for her?
I know this scene is dramatic, but I cackle every time I watch this scene. Like, did he really think she’d agree to marry him after making a backhanded comment about her family 🤣
In the book she doesn't admit that she's in love with him yet. And his first proposal is a giant shock. People around her have been suggesting it but she refuses to believe it because of how much she doesn't like him. Both characters have Pride and Prejudice.
Back in 2005 i was14... and me and my bestie went to the cinema and this was my third time watching this movie. but her first time. we lived in a small town, and it was summer. there was only us and one old lady watching it. So it was a great day. just us. as we went out, to the street, it was sunshine and so quiet. and we walked along a cute street filled with flowers and just had peace in our hearts as we just LOVED everything this movie was. the feeling it gives you. The aesthetics, the music, the romance.... I have been in love with this story ever since and i remember that day with my best friend so clearly
this whole movie is just PACKED with ONE GREAT scene after the next... I LOVE the one where she's standing by a bluff and her glorious dress is dancing in the wind... OR where she twirls herself around on a tree swing and we move to a different day... and of course when she and Darcy FINALLY meet in the marsh... I still cry like a baby during that one... might be my favorite movie of all time... top 5 for sure!
Did any one notice that at 0:59 when Darcy asked Lizzy was she laughing at him after his proposal? Laughter and Darcy's perception at laughter (if he believes it's directed at him) seems to get his attention. To wit: when Lizzy was at Netherfield to see about Jane, Darcy looked up from his desk when Lizzy suggested to Caroline that perhaps they should laugh at him for reason for not joining the women's walkabout of the parlor.
Yes! I love this point. It's shows his aversion towards being made a mockery of; perhaps his greatest fear. Whereas Elizabeth loves to laugh, make jokes. It was nicely highlighted in the movie
I've watched 1995 BBC series also .It ran for more than 4 hours. But this 2 hours movie is a master piece . Every frame of every scene was carefully crafted. NO DOUBT, THIS IS A MASTER PIECE .
They are both fiercely loyal to their sisters. Lizzie sister called it at the first dance, "one of these days Lizzy, your gonna regret that mouth of yours." She definitely realized she went off the rails, but didn't have the humility to pull it back. Yet!
Her impression about him was stained early on by Wickham's lies. That's why she was not able to trust his good intentions. She also had every right to reprimend him for basing his opinion on Jane's feelings without knowing what they were, and drawing conclusions from other people's remarks. They were both delusional about many things at that point.
Well, she was actually turned off by him much earlier, in the very beginning, when he said "she was barely tolerable" when Bingley was trying to bring Darcy's attention to Liz. So she did have reasons to not like him
I had to watch this movie over again at least 2 times just to capture all the subtleties of context and the intricate dialogue. So many complex emotions and motivations in this movie, yet it is all relatable by nearly everyone.
This scene is HOT. There's such tension because deeper down they truly are attracted to each other. Could other actors have done a better job? In his casting, shooting, costume, set, getting nature to join in on the scenes and everything, Joe Wright made a masterpiece of adaptation from novel to film, and simply of film itself.
Lots of heat! The viewer is drawn in by both what are saying and (just as importantly) what they are doing in this scene. Sublimated passion... love it!
"I myself have viewed those objects that are only to be obtained through intercourse........forgive me. Through THE intercourse of friendship or civility" 🤣🤣🤣

I wish I could write like this author or to adapt a novel to a movie like the screenwriter. but then again the actors, directors. Bravo. hint watch sense and sensibility next.
Read, read, read Jane Austen's work. And write. Observe people, as she did. You don't want to make rip-offs of her work, but something romantic and beautiful can come of your research and writing, I am sure. Good luck!!!
After watching this for the 1millonth time I think he was painfully trying not to stair at her during church service. He's sitting right across from her and probably was trying to take little glances here and there. "Unfortunately" they both got caught looking.😄
This scene is so intense yet so fucking funny. Like goddamn, Darcy, I know you're a bit emotional but just a tiny bit of reflection would have earned you perhaps a less heartbreaking rejection
That rejection was necessary for Darcy to respect Elizabeth for the rest of his life, and for Elizabeth to see his true feelings

The sexual tension..urgh.. goosebump
....there's a thin line between love & hate - this teeters on the precipice!
People of culture, we gather here again today

This movie is perfect. It depicts how complicated it can be to realise you love someone. I’ve watched it so many times ❤
How is this scene where they are fighting like hell, is so romantic and has so much sexual tension?!!
The chemistry is undeniable..
I love the quick, spit-fire answers and questions between them.
I like this kind of fighting because they're not fighting because they hate each other or want to hurt each other, they fight because they feel a lot of passion for one another but both have very strong principles and expectations in life and in this moment those expectations are not meeting.. yet.
Because they're completely engaged in each other, completely coming clean, and everything internal that can fire is firing.
My biggest wish is to experience a love like this
@@paulaooook and horrible if unrequited.
To qualify for a great love, you have to become a great person. Like attracts like, quality-wise! Are you equal to your dream? It takes a lot of work! Best wishes to you.
Mine too!!
Who says I love you with "i fought against my better judgement"? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
He was having an internal conflict himself like most introverts would do.😂
Kiera Knightley's dumbfounded face when Darcy said he looked past the "inferiority of her birth" was golden.
I want travel there too. This scene was filmed at Stourhead Gardens. It was designed to look that way with the trees and the curves of the lake.
It's Stourhead Gardens. Check the weather forecast and make sure it's raining (it's England so that won't be hard lol) and go visit. It's open to the public.
I really wish there was another romance movie with these actors, the chemistry between them is fascinating
ABSOLUTELY YES!!!
I adore the 1995 Pride and Prejudice very much but I also think the 2005 has very beautiful cinematography and scores, and I think this version's Lizzie and Darcy's chemistry is subdued but STROOOOONG and I looooove it.
.....& this version doesn't need Darcy to get his trousers wet.
Define love…
We have language and that complicates things 😂😂
Both had to overcome hurdles, set up by society but more significantly the ones inside their own hearts, in order to reach each other. A beautiful and masterful rendition of Beauty and the Beast archetypal energies. We are complicated indeed.
@@eebbeerrttpp Love: inexplicable.
AND those are the words of a gentleman? You go girl. She’s my favorite character of all time! ❤❤❤❤
3:31 the way the “please…” is almost audible god 😭
my mood when I see some scenes of this masterpiece: 📈📈📈
3:29 That little "Please" gets me everytime. As if he's begging to let him kiss her and not walk away. The raw passion and want for his lips to finally touch hers. Ugh such a perfect scene.
I couldn't hear it. I saw him move his lips. His eyes.❤
The way he whispered “please” at 3:30 😭
It’s everything!
Because in that one moment he finally shows the passion of how much he really loves her and how much walking away right there hurts him. But he's going to respect her choices and that matters so much especially back then.
never noticed that till you mentioned it!
I never even noticed that! How did I miss that?!
Oh wow
They both were prideful and judgemental in their own ways, they are made for each other 😂😂❤❤❤❤
I’m obsessed with this movie! Watched it twice last week. 😍😍😍
I’ve watched this movie 3 times in a week😍

DARCY: Miss Elizabeth, I have struggled in vain and I can bear it no longer. These past months have been a torment. I came to Rosing’s with the single object of seeing you, I had to see you. I fought against my better judgment, my family’s expectation, the inferiority of your birth, my rank and circumstance, all these things and I am willing to put them aside and ask you to end my agony.
LIZZIE: I don’t understand-
DARCY: I love you… most ardently.
DARCY: Might I ask with why so little.. endeavor at civility I must re-
LIZZIE: And I might as well enquire why with so evident a design of insulting me you chose to tell me that you like me against your better judgement?
DARCY: No, believe me, I-
LIZZIE: If I was uncivil, then that is some excuse, but I have other reasons, you know I have!
…
I suppose you suspected his, his fortune had some bearing-
DARCY: -No, I wouldn’t do your sister the dishonor, though it was suggested-
LIZZIE: What was?
DARCY: It was made perfectly clear that an advantageous marriage-
LIZZIE: Did my sister give that impression?
DARCY: No! No... No. There was however, I have to admit, the matter of your family-
LIZZIE: A want of connection!?
Perhaps these offenses might’ve been overlooked had not your pride been hurt-
LIZZIE: My pride!?
DARCY: -by my honesty in admitting scruples about our relationship. Could you expect me to rejoice in the inferiority of your circumstances?
LIZZIE: And those are the words of a gentleman? From the first moment I met you, your arrogance and conceit, your selfish disdain for the feelings of others made me realize that you were the last man in the world I could ever be prevailed upon to marry.
** AAAAAAAAAAHHHH**
DARCY: Forgive me… Madame. For taking up so much of your time.
Thanks easy to understand
Do you know how darcy knew Elizabeth is at rosings?
@Psalm Thyme he actually asked or used his connections via his aunt to ask Elizabeth to visit Charlotte at rosings
Thanks❤
So, who else has this entire exchange memorized?

At 7:07 she looks like a person in shock to me. She realize she will never see him again and that makes her realize she loves him. She literaly broke up with her loved one during his marriage proposal.
She wasn't in love with him yet
The thunder between the pauses.. *chefs kiss*
The most endearing movie i've eve seen.i read the book, i love this version most. Cant describe how i love this
In the book she doesn't admit that she's in love with him yet.
I love the way she says ‘how sir’
This is why I had to watch this movie numerous times to pick up on all the subtle context and decipher the intricate dialogue.
Excellent observation about that line.
I wonder if laughing meant a bit different
This isn't right. From my experience whenever a Jane Austen heroine gets caught in the rain there are always serious health consequences.
Hypochondriac. 🙄
Poor Marianne 😅
Poor Jane
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Hahaha! True! Then a trip to Bath they go!
What a fine and intricate playing… Is like a delicate fine lace… Beautiful beautiful beautiful work ..!!!!!!!
Oh when they push each others buttons, chemistry in its entirety . Title says it all 😊 one of my fav ❤❤
It took everything out of him not to kiss her! And she would have kissed back! And this was the moment she realized she was truly In love!
Yet!
I have watched this movie hundreds of time just for this moment.
i like when hes talking about her family her face dosent change until he mentions her father
And this is how you screw up a proposal lol. Great job Darcy 👏👏
That moment, the moment when you really were not sure whether they were going to kiss, that moment is this scene.
I just watched it last night for the first time, and now I'm so obsessed!
Thank you very much Focus Features for making such a beautiful, BEAUTIFUL, SO BEAUTIFUL and inspiring love movie… from Curitiba.
Best scene, in the rain. Elizabeth’s response is the best in any movie.
Sublimated passion... love it!
My favorite movie version of P & P. The others don't even come close.
The greatest cinematic masterpiece.
I just caught that little slip up in the beginning when Mr. Collins says “Intercourse” instead of “the intercourse” 😂😂😂
"I myself have viewed those objects that are only to be obtained through intercourse........forgive me. Through THE intercourse of friendship or civility" 🤣🤣🤣
Lmao…it’s hilarious especially because his character is such a tight ass
was that part in the book, or did they put it there to subliminally prime us for the literally drenching sexual tension to follow? 😆
Lmfao I thought I was the only one that noticed!!!
@@seraphik it’s not in the book. I just thought that Mr. Collins had some...thoughts on his mind.
I simply love how they used thunder voices to show one of is hurt when the other one strikes.
My favorite scene.. watch it thousand times
My all time favorite movie and scene. I just love how she humbled him and showed him that superiority is not just in fortune or class but that it is in one's conduct, heart, personality etc. However our world considers fortune first unfortunately
This version is probably at least... 5 times better than that 1995, Colin Firth version
this is the ultimate jepardy of self respect and stunding up for yourself nomatter what, leading to justice. and...love.
